    * The Japanese BBQ Chicken Ramen was amazing - the chicken was incredibly tender and had a beautiful char from the specially-prepared charcoal, leaving an enticing smokey aroma that lets you practically taste the dish before eating; the broth was great but becomes elevated once the chicken char starts getting absorbed by the soup, intensifying the flavor while gaining an almost cream-like texture * The Small Fried Chicken Bowl with Tartar Sauce was terrific - the chicken was deliciously crispy, the tartar sauce was savory and sweet, and was a nice accompaniment to the ramen * Overall, a superb spot in Sawtelle with friendly staff and a unique take on ramen that definitely warrants a visit while in the area

Japanese BBQ Chicken ramen was the most interesting chicken ramen I've ever had ! My friend whose tried majority of the restaurants nearby told me this CHICKEN ramen place is a must and I was doubting it at first because I always get pork ramen usually, but Holly CHICKEN , I GET the hype. It was so flavorful and rich even though usually chicken soups are more bland, I love that the bbq chicken ramen had the charcoal chicken which added a kick to the broth, the noodles were perfectly cooked. The rich chicken ramen was delicious too, Rich was the right name because I couldn't believe I was tasting a chicken ramen while I was eating it. I will definitely be back to try their rice bowls and more apps in future. Cute little spot, relatively loud and busy , I like how you can see flames from The kitchen area , chefs grilling up food ! I've tried a lot of ramen places that are hard to differentiate, but Torisoba Sumiya stands out for their chicken ramen. Their rich chicken ramen was absolutely delicious with tender chicken slices, al dente noodles, a perfectly cooked boiled egg, and thinly sliced radish that added a really fresh taste to the dish. The seasoning provided on the table gave a nice umami kick to the ramen. The place is small but we were able to find seats for 2 on a Friday night at 6:30. There were still tables intermittently available throughout our meal. Service was efficient and nice. We found free street parking nearby but make sure you read the signs; many side streets do not allow parking after 6 pm unless you have a permit.

This is a great place for chicken ramen and bowls! I been a little snobby with ramen since Japan ruined me but I highly recommend this place! It's on Sawtelle where there's a large concentration of Japanese restaurants and shops. Parking can be atrocious... and apparently there's been a meter maid ticketing everyone on streets that require a permit so make sure you read the signs (esp all the way to the bottom)! We came here around 8:30pm and were seated right away. They reserve tables for parties of 3 or more so we were seated at the table (we didn't mind seeing the kitchen work super efficiently). The menu is quite simple with 4 different types of ramen, including a vegan option. I shared the BBQ chicken ramen and Rich Spicy Chicken Ramen along w a mini bowl. The chicken is grilled w charcoal so you really get the smokiness from it. I liked it better on rice w a sauce, especially w the green onions. We were both impressed w the spicy ramen. The broth was excellent and though there was a kick it was still manageable and thus enjoyable.

It's pretty rare to find a spot that specializes in chicken-based ramen, so this was a nice change from the usual lineup. Came on a Saturday around 4:30 PM and there was no line. I tried their signature Rich Chicken ramen (torisoba), and it was delicious, the broth had that creamy, concentrated depth you'd normally expect from pork, but felt a bit cleaner. If it's your first time trying chicken-based ramen, this is a solid introduction. We also got the ground chicken rice bowl, which was a standout. Super flavorful, slightly sweet savory, and honestly something I'd come back for on its own. I also tried their Japanese BBQ chicken ramen (charcoal style), and while it was good, I personally preferred the Rich Chicken ramen. The charcoal flavor on the chicken definitely added a unique edge you don't usually get in ramen, in a GOOD way. Overall, this place feels different*in a good way. It's not trying to compete with traditional pork ramen, it does its own thing, and does it well. Definitely a unique spot in LA and worth trying if you want something outside the norm.

I love it when the actual food looks exactly like the menu picture. We made a reservation and were seating right around the reservation time. We were a part of six people and had to unfortunately split our party due to table sizes, but it all worked out. The food overall was delicious. I love the large size was truly a larger size that was substantial for the heartier appetites. The service was good overall - enough attention to avoid empty cups, but not too much. The ramen and all of our dishes were tasty and well executed. After we ordered, the food came out rather quickly. Others reported slow service, but we didn't experience this. Generally, I would say compared to tonkatsu ramen, I found this broth less rich (hopefully this means less fatty as well). The ramen noodles had a nice texture and bite to them. The Japanese BBQ chicken was good, especially the wood flavor, but I would say a tad overcooked. I think there are a lot of great ramen options, so I would not wait if you have to wait a long time. Otherwise, it's worth trying if you're able to without too much trouble (fortunately for us, someone else held our spot for us). Also, if you like the richness of tonkatsu ramen broth, you won't get that with chicken ramen. I wouldn't bother with street parking, just park in the garage right under the restaurant. The restaurant will validate, so you'll only need to pay a little even if you go over the validated time.

After waiting an hour for restaurant pop up, my group decided to call it quits and try this place instead. I've walked by this restaurant many times and always wanted to try it. On a Saturday at 6:30pm, we got really lucky and were seated immediately. The space is small with probably about twelve tables and a bar top. It's a nice casual eatery with a moderate noise level. Definitely feels like I'm back in Japan again! Service was quick and efficient. We ordered rich ramens broth and one combo with sweet and sour chicken. Food came out relatively quickly, except for our friend's bowl. After flagging down our waitress about his order, the ramen bowl didn't take too long to hit the table. I am huge fan of paitan ramen so I love how creamy and rich this broth was. It tasted as though there was a little bit of chicken oil on top which gave the broth a nice mouthfeel. The chicken flavor clung to the noodles and the texture of the noodles were springy and firm. Even towards the end of the meal, the noodles didn't get too soggy which was great. The bowl featured about three slices of chicken that were grilled. You could taste the charred flavor in each bite and the chicken was surprisingly very filling. The ajitama (egg) was seasoned and jammy. The The sweet and sour chicken bowl for the combo was a cute size. The chicken was perfectly crispy but I wished a little more of the sweet and sour flavor came through. I think maybe a little more sauce would have improved the bowl. I would come back for the ramen on a cold or rainy day!

Remember when this was Yakitori-ya? A Japanese charcoal-grilled beak to pygostyle chicken shop that was here for something like 27 years, manned by a lone chef and his wife until a couple years ago when it became Torisoba Sumiya, which is still a charcoal-grilled chicken shop but in the form of chicken-based ramen (torisoba in Japanese). Rumor has it Toshi-san, that lone chef from Yakitori-ya is still helming the charcoal here at Torisoba, having mastered and utilizing the existing grills that was for the yakitori to make the best torisoba in all of Little Osaka. The charcoal-blackened chicken broth is full of flavor. Smoky and luscious but still light and clean. The spicy chicken broth is also very balanced and rich, matching perfectly with thin chewy noodles and tender chicken. We added the small rice bowls to the ramen for only $5 more and devoured it like the beasts we are. I also had a draft of Suntory Premium Malt and it was wonderfully chilled with the perfect head. Server was friendly and asked if we parked in the plaza lot next door because they validate parking for an hour and a half. Spread the word! Free parking in LA and especially on the west side is worth the price of gold, amirite? Thank you, Torisoba, for a most delicious meal. Keep up the good work. I can't wait to come back and try the other flavors. See you then.

    2. Rich Chicken Ramen
    Jin H.

Ramen broth and noodles was excellent. I would give 5 star if I only order the rich chicken broth ramen. The Japanese BBQ chicken topping was grilled on charcoal and had a nice smokey flavor. But as I continued to chew on the chicken it tasted like light fluid. I asked the waitress if is normal and she reassured us is completely fine. But the lighter fluid is so strong that my friend couldn't finish their meal. PSA: grilled meat on charcoal will have a lighter fluid taste if the charcoal is not completely turned heated into hot ash. Please if you do taste light fluid is NOT normal

truly the best chicken ramen I've had - it has a light yet flavorful broth and v tender chicken! since it's located in sawtelle, parking can be tricky at times but I don't mind walking a bit for this spot! I usually get the rich chicken ramen (no onions) since I wasn't sure if the bbq chicken would taste too charred as it's charcoal-grilled, but after trying a small bbq chicken bowl, the chicken was actually v yummy w no strong charred taste! I've been here multiple times bc it is j tooo good and the service is always great w everyone being v kind and attentive I always try to go early to beat the dinner rush!

Japanese BBQ Chicken Ramen and small bowl of Fried Chicken with Tartar Sauce

I've been here twice so far and the food here is great! I ordered the Japanese BBQ Chicken Ramen and it was delicious. The chicken was juicy with a nice charred flavor that seasoned the thick broth nicely. The components from the noodles to the egg all were great quality. Everything meshed well together. I also ordered it as a combo and ordered a small fried chicken bowl with tartar sauce and that was delicious as well. I liked the crispy fried batter on the chicken and the creamy tartar sauce which paired well together. Also pairing with the ramen, everything was a nice contrast. While the food was good, the only reason why I'm not giving this 5 stars is the price relative to the portion sizes. The ramen bowl is small at $21. It's so small that I had to do the combo so I would feel satiated since the first time I had this I was still hungry after. Together with the small bowl side, it was about $30ish which is on the higher side for a casual eats place. I did end up feeling full with the combo though. Overall, great food here. I would keep coming back whenever I want to splurge every once in a while.

Loved Torisoba Sumiya! Came here for lunch today with a few friends and really enjoyed my experience. torisoba Sumiya is located on Sawtelle which is known for its hustle and bustle and numerous other eats. When we first arrived, there was a bit of a line but thankfully, we had no issue being sat. Prices are great and we loved the single options and also the options with the combos. We all settled on the spicy chicken ramen which was delicious. Loved the chicken breast which was super flavorful and the broth really had a nice kick with the spicy flavor. The portion size as just right and I left feeling satisfied, Can't wait to come back and try more options!

I love noodles, I love ramen, but I'm often conflicted by the heavy, bloated feelings and calorie dense guilt I have afterward. When I heard there was an up-and-coming chicken ramen place in West LA (where competition for ramen is both fierce and plentiful), I knew I had to try it. What I Ordered: - I tried the combo special, which included Chicken Ramen (large, with extra noodles) and a Fried Chicken Bowl with Tartar Sauce. We were able to share this across 2 people and were fully satisfied with the portion size. - Chicken Ramen: This broth is probably one of the best chicken ramen iterations in the area. It's creamy, rich, and flavorful without too much salt or heaviness. I loved how fresh and bouncy the noodles were! In addition, the chicken was grilled to perfection and blended perfectly with the soft-boiled egg. - Fried Chicken Bowl with Tartar Sauce: I wasn't sure what to expect with the tartar sauce combo, but I really liked the combination of flavors. The fried, crispy karaage chicken paired well with the creamy and tangy mayonnaise-based tartar sauce. Ambiance: Simple and modern, however seating is limited. I went on a weekday where we didn't have to wait, but I can imagine longer waits on weekends. Seating was super cramped--I feel like this establishment could benefit from reducing the seating and incorporating more space, as I had to squeeze past several people to even get to my seat. Parking: It's Sawtelle, so parking can be tricky. Try parking in the parking garage across the street for free parking, otherwise you can find free street parking with a short walk to the establishment. Final Thoughts: Will come again for a hearty, delicious bowl of chicken ramen that beats all its competitors in the area! (Why even bother wait in line for Tsujita or Tatsu anymore???)

I got the fried rice, previously one of my favorite side dishes here, but the Yakimeshi rice was too dry and disappointing. I added garlic and soft boiled egg to my ramen. The garlic flakes were too big/strong and overpowered everything. The egg was good. That's the mood that pulled me into Maruya in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles. I ordered the chashu tonkotsu, the classic go-to when you want to judge a ramen shop by its bones. And the verdict? It was... fine. Not bad, not memorable -- just okay. The kind of bowl that doesn't offend you but doesn't linger in your memory either. No standout richness in the broth, no chashu slice that made me pause mid-bite. Just noodles, doing their job. This is actually the second ramen spot I've tried in Little Tokyo, and I'll admit -- I'm starting to feel a little underwhelmed by the neighborhood's ramen scene so far. For a pocket of the city with so much culinary history packed into a few blocks, I expected to be a bit more wowed by now. Two tries in, and I'm still searching for that bowl that stops me in my tracks. What did stand out, though, was the service. The staff at Maruya were genuinely warm and helpful -- attentive without hovering, quick to check in, the kind of hospitality that makes you want to root for the place even when the food doesn't quite deliver. It's the kind of detail that softens an otherwise middling meal. So, Little Tokyo ramen crawl: two down, verdict still out. The people have been great. The noodles? I'm still waiting to be impressed. On to the next bowl.

This is a review only of their happy hour specifically, not of their ramen, which I have not tried…read moreand can't speak to the quality of. I actually became aware of the existence of this restaurant *because* they had a happy hour sign out in front, advertising, among other things, $4 salmon poke "tacos" (which was definitely actually a tostada, but still), and $3 nigori sake to go with it, which sounded pretty bomb - when I passed by the sign on my way to an event at Death & Co nearby, I took note of it but wasn't interested in food. However, when I left that event, an event I thought was going to provide a lot more food than it actually did, I absolutely *was* interested in food, and remembered that the sign advertised not only a traditional happy hour (open until 6 weekdays, 2:30-5:30 Saturday/Sunday), but also the same prices during a reverse happy hour (8 to close weekdays, 9 to close on the weekend). Given it was, at that moment, just after 8 on a Wednesday, I knew exactly where I was going to get the second half of my dinner from. Funny enough, I will say, the salmon poke that drew me in, was just... good. Don't get me wrong, if I were offered them for free, I'd eat at *least* a dozen. They were quite tasty - also like 2 bites worth of food (so eating a dozen of them would not be remotely difficult to do.) Salmon poke is wonderful, but if I wanted poke, I'd go find a poke place - even $4 felt a bit pricey for the size (they're $6 when it isn't happy hour), so I'm glad I decided to also try their karaage. Their karaage is BOMB - some of the best I've had, honestly. $7 for a 4-piece order of their karaage, by contrast, feels like a very reasonable price, and $5 (during happy hour) an absolute steal. Great karaage, great sauce, super fulfilling. The happy hour on karaage would be enough of a draw by itself - but separate from that, so would the $3 happy hour on sake, including both a regular house cold sake and a nigori. As you can see from the picture, they also intentionally overpour their sake, which is not only a very pretty presentation, but also an impressive amount of sake for $3 (heck, for DTLA, a pretty impressive amount of sake even at their normal $5 price). They also have $6 happy hour shochu/sake/juice cocktails that looked pretty good, though I didn't try one. Service was great, too - sometimes you can tell a restaurant is less excited to serve someone who clearly just came in for a drink and a snack, but that was not my experience here. Verdict is, I definitely want to come back and try their ramen sometime, but I would definitely make sure to do it either before or after their prime dinner hour, to take advantage of happy hour pricing. (And I would definitely get more of that karaage as a side. I will probably also make a point to do so as a snack, subsequent to any future events I go to in the area that end around 8 on a weekday, as well, for as long as that happy hour remains such a draw, price-wise.)

Food (3/5): Pretty ok ramen! You come to Tsujita Artisan Noodle in Arts District for the Tsukemen…read more Their tsukemen is creamy with deep umami flavor. Their noodles have a bounciness and chewiness that hold the broth you dip your noodles in. I do wish the broth was hotter because the noodles are traditionally served cold. I've come here for their Naruto collaboration and to try their traditional ramen where their noodles come with the broth and it tastes significantly different than their tsukemen which I didn't have a liking to. It was missing some oomph that not only differentiates this ramen from others I've tasted before but also gets people to keep coming. Service (5/5): Quick service! Every time I've been there hasn't been a wait. Price (4/5): To compensate for taste I do think the price needs to be lowered a bit. The tsukemen to me was definitely worth it. Ambiance (4/5): Cute little modern shop. It won't fit many big parties but it is perfect for duos.
