TBH and IMO, you cannot go wrong with any places on Sawtelle Blvd. But Menya Tigre with their low profile on the street got one of the beast curry ramen. With not too large menu and mostly focused on curry sauce/ramen the flavor, texture, consistency, and right balanced taste just hits the spot and takes you back to Japan! I loved the option of having chicken Chashu is absolutely amazing! And it tasted good. Highly recommended this place!

    Karaage sando

Came here on a Sunday afternoon for lunch and was seated immediately at the patio. I had the karaage sando when it used to be Anzu when they had their own location. But they have now joined with Menya Tigre since then. I remembered their sando being delicious so didn't pursue the menu too long. You get a choice of dipping sauce. I like either the jalapeño ranch or the sriracha aioli and had a hard time deciding which one I liked more, lol. Service was quick and I appreciated that they kept checking if we needed water on the very hot day. I'll be back to check the menu from Menya soon!

Delicious food, fairly priced and good service. Tried this place out on a warm weekend and sat outside. We were greeted and seated fairly quickly - total plus when you're hungry. The food was great! The karaage was delicious, had a crispy exterior and a juicy and warm interior. The curry was flavorful and the spicy fried garlic they have on the table gives a great boost of flavor and good spicy kick, too. The service was good - our server checked up on us fairly frequently and did a great job at being courteous and also accurate with our orders. Ambiance is as good as Sawtelle gets - busy street with heavy foot traffic. Not extremely noisy even with the amount of people and cars passing by, but it's definitely an active area. Overall, would come back here if I'm in the area. The food and service are worth it.

Curry Curry Curry!! Do you love Curry? I think if you're into curry you gotta check out Menya Tigre. Came on a Sunday around noon. Got seated right away. Was able to try the keema noodle and some of the tsukemen with a side of karaage. Everything was delicious and virtually as I expected plus more. The place is pretty small but big on charm. I don't think Menya Tigre gets talked about as much as other shops in Sawtelle so lets get this one going! Parking: street VERDICT: Rinse and repeat

Service was great & friendly staff! The food was good too! i loved how crunchy the shrimp tempura was! the curry had great flavor too. The vibes inside are casual which make it perfect to catch up with friends.

Rating: 7.5/10 First time trying this spot and was pretty satisfied. Parking in this area is tough so we ended up paying $10 for a spot in a garage. The restaurant inside was small but lively. The service was great and the waiter was very nice. We ordered the tsukemen dipping ramen with chasu, 10 piece karaage, and shrimp tempura. The noodles were perfectly chewy. The broth was tasty and very rich. The karaage was alright tbh, pretty heavily breaded, but the sauces (jalapeño ranch and sriracha aioli) were tasty. The shrimp tempura was mid, and served with the tartar sauce kinda reminded me of fish sticks. Would come back just for the tsukemen!

This place was so good! They are making food well above what the price is. Definitely coming back soon hungry for more.

    Vegan curry mazemen
    Melanie G.

Came on a Monday around noon and was able to be seated right away. Service was a little slow and not super attentive. I got the vegan curry mazemen ($1 extra charge for vegan). Interestingly, it came with a pico de gallo which I've never seen fused for mazemen. I still prefer traditional flavors for mazemen. But the flavors were good and plentiful. The curry, green onions and chili all worked together well. I liked the noodles because they were thick and chewy/bouncy. In mazemen fashion, they do offer a small portion of rice to eat after with what's left!

Pretty good mazemen. My typical go-to for mazemen was closed on a Monday so popped into Menya for a bite Service was prompt and helpful and the place was fairly cozy. They have a nice outdoor patio if temperatures are accommodating I ordered mine without the pico de gallo or corn, as those ingredients lended a more fusion taste that I wasn't particularly seeking. I'd probably return just to try the curry dishes

pork katsu curry and chashu ramen

Curry lovers need to check this place out! Having tried both the katsu curry rice and curry ramen, both are hearty and filling. The rice dish comes with a huge piece of katsu, and the soup of the curry ramen is very thick, rich and flavorful. The portions are large and feels worth the price. The food comes out fast and I am lucky to have been be seated right away upon arriving. Parking is rough in this area, probably just on the street.

    Limited edition red ramen

Wanted to try a different spot on Sawtelle so we dined at Menya Tigre! This spot is more well known for their curry dishes (and they also serve fresh karaage which my friend loved). I opted for what seems to be a limited edition red ramen, since it was on a poster in store instead of the main menu. Overall it was good, but I think I would've liked more flavor and heat and I definitely would not choose it over other ramen spots in Sawtelle. However the staff was super friendly, service is quick, there was no line, and there is both indoor and outdoor seating. Good option if other spots are too busy or you want several different options to choose from (chicken, curry, ramen) for your group.

Definitely need to try their ramen and ANZU karate joint! FOOD 4/5 Pork cutlet was thin, flavorful, and love how there's zero fat on it. The curry was good but not my fav ULTIMATE TSUKEMEN (Pork Cutlet)- ・100% Chicken Broth With House Blend Curry ・2 Pieces Pork Cutlet ・Soft Boiled Egg ・Bonito Flavor ・Menma , Green Onion CHASHU TSUKEMEN - Was suppose to come with 4 pieces but we only have (1 total) as shown on the picture on their site. ・100% Chicken Broth With House Blend Curry ・4 Pieces Chashu Pork ・Soft Boiled Egg ・Bonito Flavor ・Menma , Green Onion PARKING 3/5 Always tough finding parking on Sawtelle and within the perimeter CUSTOMER SERVICE 4/5 Standard attentive service, no issues. Ambience was clean.

    Curry Chashu Ramen
    Winn H.

Menya TIGRE has some nice curry ramen, and I visited to try their Curry Chashu Ramen. Service was average (as expected), with a simple sit down, take order, and check slip. I was sat at the bar, which featured hard metal chairs and a wooden counter. The first bite of chashu in the Chashu Ramen was tasty, reminding me of a charcoal grill and a nice texture. Their curry broth is thick and fatty - unique in that it was though very salty. The salt was enough to cut through the chashu after a few minutes, instantly making it less enjoyable. Their egg was also not quite soft-boiled, and the texture though not overcooked left some more to be desired.

Unfortunately, we don’t have chicken Chashu, but we can replace the pork Chashu with an soft boiled egg.

Are there any vegetarian or pescatarian options?

I was able to get the keema noodles with a plant based meat :)

I was craving ramen and ordered the Ruby, with a miso-based broth. The description says, "Chicken chashu and perfectly seared shrimp create the perfect pairing, while bamboo shoots, green onion, and a seasoned egg add layers of texture and taste." The broth was indeed very good, and almost hot. Everything *in* it was not very warm: I think they left it to the broth to heat up the chicken, the egg, the noodles, and even cook the shrimp. The broth couldn't do all that. 10 minutes in, the egg halves and the chicken were still very cool inside, and the shrimp were still translucent. As you can see in the picture, they were not seared at all on arrival as per the menu. I told the waitress they weren't cooked; she said they were, but I took her up on her offer to have them "toasted." They came back w sear marks on top and still translucent underneath. The chicken is very tender, but it wasn't "chashu" as the descriptions says, either: just plain white poached chicken with no particular flavor. With this I got a melon float. It was delicious, but no spoon for the ice cream, so I used my ramen spoon. And I got the bill while I was involved with this process -- there was nobody else in the restaurant at this point, so there was no reason to hurry. Even though the waitress said "take your time"... it's hard not to feel rushed when they push the bill on you while you're still eating. Altogether not a nice experience. Next time I'll go back to Hachioji, Mr Ramen, or Shin-Sen-Gumi, which have been consistently great.

That's the mood that pulled me into Maruya in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles. I ordered the chashu tonkotsu, the classic go-to when you want to judge a ramen shop by its bones. And the verdict? It was... fine. Not bad, not memorable -- just okay. The kind of bowl that doesn't offend you but doesn't linger in your memory either. No standout richness in the broth, no chashu slice that made me pause mid-bite. Just noodles, doing their job. This is actually the second ramen spot I've tried in Little Tokyo, and I'll admit -- I'm starting to feel a little underwhelmed by the neighborhood's ramen scene so far. For a pocket of the city with so much culinary history packed into a few blocks, I expected to be a bit more wowed by now. Two tries in, and I'm still searching for that bowl that stops me in my tracks. What did stand out, though, was the service. The staff at Maruya were genuinely warm and helpful -- attentive without hovering, quick to check in, the kind of hospitality that makes you want to root for the place even when the food doesn't quite deliver. It's the kind of detail that softens an otherwise middling meal. So, Little Tokyo ramen crawl: two down, verdict still out. The people have been great. The noodles? I'm still waiting to be impressed. On to the next bowl.

Don't bother getting anything else except the chashu tsukemen for food. It's THAT good!!! Also if you want to treat yourself- get the $6 apple juice that's won several awards. Lowkey expensive but you get why when you taste it. Best apple juice I've ever had- and I grew up in the northeast.

I ordered the spicy tonkotsu and loved the flavor, especially the chashu. I'm usually a pork belly person, but the chashu was so flavorful that I genuinely think I'll start choosing it instead from now on. Everything came out piping hot, which normally sounds like a compliment, but it was almost too hot to comfortably eat. Weirdly, we actually enjoyed the leftovers even more reheated at home. I do wish I'd tried the thicker noodles, but paying an extra $3 just to switch noodle styles felt a little ridiculous. We also tried the gyoza, which were good, but I wish they had come with a more traditional soy-based dipping sauce instead of already being dressed in chili oil. I'd definitely come back, especially to try the dipping ramen. I'd never had tsukemen before, and it sounded so good that I was already regretting not ordering it by the end of the meal.
