Approximately nine months later, I began experiencing visual disturbances and followed the advice of the surgery center to return to My Eye Dr in Murphy. I was told at that visit that the issue was "just floaters" and not cause for concern. When the symptoms did not resolve, I returned to the surgery center, where I was informed that my retina had detached -- a condition they did not treat -- and I was referred to a retina specialist. The specialist diagnosed me with a retinal detachment affecting approximately 75% of my retina, requiring emergency surgery that involved placement of a scleral buckle. The buckle changed the shape of my eye and rendered the upgraded lenses I had paid for unusable. Then, in July 2025, my right eye also experienced a retinal detachment. I am currently still recovering from this second major surgery. I can honestly say that this has been the worst medical experience of my life. Not only was there a significant delay in diagnosing a sight-threatening condition despite my efforts to seek help early, but I also feel the situation was mishandled at multiple points. The consequences have been life-altering, both financially and physically. I am sharing this in the hopes that no one else has to endure the same level of frustration, suffering, and loss of vision that I have experienced.

Every time I come in the Front office staff is always very friendly and then the technical staff who help run the tests are familiar with us and always ask how things are going and what we have been doing like vacations. And finally after running the eye tests and dilation I then see Dr. Khetpal and asks if I have had any issues and then we catch up on what we have done. A cautionary tale…read more I liked Dr Dennis Goldsberrry. Great bedside manner. I have had poor vision for years. Got RK 20 years ago. Came to Dr Goldsberrry for an exam.Cataract surgery was recommended. I elected to have it. I chose the upgrade lens. Procedure went great.... At first. Called a week later and said "I don't think this feels right ". His tech assistant said to me via text: "Hi Gary I got your voice mail. You are still healing and going to have fluctuation with the vision. Please make sure you are using lots of artificial tears throughout the day and using the steroid drops as directed. As long as you are not in any pain and not seeing any big floaters or flashes you should be ok to wait until the next post- op appointment. We will measure your vision then." When I went back for a 30 day post surgery visit. I learned to my horror, I had a detached Retina. A detached Retina Requires a whole new surgery. Still not sure of my vision outcome. Dr Goldsberrry got me an appointment with a Retina specialist pronto. However, I said "Dr I called your office for help" 3 weeks ago His response was basically oh well. Total cold fish. My vision may be ruined forever. Too bad So sad was the attitude I felt when learning my retina had become detached post surgery For over three weeks my retina was detached and undetected- and could lead to permanent eye damage . to this day, I've heard not a word about his concerns for my eye. I thought he would've called to follow up. He has shown zero concern or empathy for my condition. Message to all patients. Be your own advocate. If it feels wrong to you it's wrong! I visited Prosper Family Eyecare as a walk in for medical care for my left eye and learned a valuable lesson. There is a BIG difference between an Optometrist and an Ophthalmologist. An optometrist IS NOT A MEDICAL DOCTOR and is not qualified to assess anything other than sight testing and management of general vision changes. If you are in need of glasses or general vision then this is what an optometrist is qualified to assist you with. However, if you are in need of medical attention for your eye then you need to see an ophthalmologist (a medical doctor) with experience diagnosing and treating eye and vision conditions. What is disappointing is that Prosper Family Eye care accepts walk-ins to treat issues beyond the scope of what they are qualified to access as there are no medical doctors (Ophthalmologist) at this facility i.e. they are Optometrist. I called and set an appointment to go in due to having serious discomfort in my left eye, bloodshot, increased sensitivity to light, poor vision. This office does not bill insurance so the out of pocket is $155. I came in for a foreign object or debris in my eye yet during my visit my eye was not flushed out. Other than a general eye exam I was prescribed Tobramycin and sent on my way. During my visit, the affects and dangers of Tobramycin were not explained. There are serious complications of this medicine, blurred vision, blindness etc. This medication is to treat bacterial infections, it will do nothing for a viral infection and will only make it worse. It is imperative that a proper evaluation of the eye is done to be sure the infection is bacterial to prevent the eye from regressing further. What I find especially troubling is how an Optometrist (not a Medical Doctor) can prescribe this medication for a patient with a medical concern. Optometrist should not be prescribing this type of medication unless it is related to a patient experiencing an infection from a contact lens or something of that nature within their general scope of practice. Prescribing this medication to a patient with a medical concern unrelated to general vision issues is something only a Ophthalmologists (medical doctor) is truly qualified to do. Bottomline, if you have a medical issue with your eye that is unrelated to wearing glasses or contact lenses then spend your money to go see an actual M.D., an Ophthalmologist. Even Proper Family Eyecare won't refute this, as after they took my $155 and failed to treat me properly they simply referred me to an Ophthalmologist so I could get proper treatment. #LessonLearned

Here's where everything went wrong: the billing was an absolute mess! First, they charged the wrong credit card, and then additional costs started coming in. The billing contact (woman) was rude and had zero communication skills. When we would call to set up a payment plan and resolve mistakes, no one EVER answered the phone. Calls always went to voicemail, and we wouldn't hear back for weeks. Also, in the middle of my recovery period, they decided to drop our insurance company, so follow-up appointments went from $0 out-of-pocket to $300!! They should have been included!! I had to rush to find a new in-network eye doctor to monitor my healing process. EYESIGHT CARE IS CRITICAL!! This is very expensive eye surgery, and insurance doesn't cover most of the cost. Make sure you understand the additional costs before you proceed. They add up! And again, their billing department is a joke! The estimate was $9,500. The actual out-of-pocket cost was about $15,000.
