You will get the most incredible service, from the brilliant staff who can take one look at your piece of artwork and just know what frame will be best for it. They fast tracked my frame job when I told them I needed it within a shorter timeframe and when UPS tried to gouge me with crazy expensive packing prices, they custom wrapped/packed it for me to take to the post office (they of course do shipping but I needed to overnight it). No wonder Wade Maxx has been on the Upper West Side for 25 years and still standing! A dear friend gave me a good-sized and bright colored painting auctioned from Christie's. The spot where it sits most appropriately in my place is near almost floor to ceiling windows where it may be susceptible to sun damage. I read from various research sources that one solution could be to spray UV protection on the painting itself. When I asked various frame shops on the Upper West Side quotes for doing the spraying work - all they asked were the dimensions of the painting and said they'll charge by surface size covered. When I walked into Wade Maxx, I was at first shocked that they "didn't want my business"!!! The obvious art lover and expert of a consultant immediately advised me against using drastic measures such as spraying UV protection - which could damage the integrity of the painting and the canvas it sits on, he warned - and shared other methods of maintaining the quality of the painting instead, which would cost me nothing (but Wade Maxx's own cash receipts for this potential transaction). Needless to say, anytime since then that I've needed custom framing or been looking for art to buy or just general advice on artwork collection and maintenance, I've gone back to Wade Maxx! And, I'm happy to tell all my friends - you can't beat the integrity, knowledge and goodwill of these guys. read more

I purchased an over-sized mirror before Thanksgiving in anticipation of moving into a new apartment soon after December 15th. It was a Christmas present; so I told the store that a delivery date @ 12/23 was a reasonable estimate. They kindly understood the situation and said that they would hold it. But the 12/15 closing date on the apartment was moved until mid January. I called the store and they said that they completely understood. Indeed, the gentleman who answered the phone told me in very (!!) sweet detail about the simultaneous closing on his NJ home and delivery of his new baby at Lenox Hill in Manhattan!!!! Not a problem! The closing on my apartment became yet further delayed as a result of the Board not being able to convene and meet us. The younger workers at the store called to tell me that other people wanted to buy the mirror and did not understand why the store continued to hold such a large mirror. So here is my message: The owner of the store told me from the get-go that I should not worry, that he was holding it for me, and he did. He told me that when others wanted to buy it off the floor and asked him why he didn't just sell it to them- because it had been sitting there for two and a half month- this is what he said:" I DON'T DO BUSINESS THAT WAY". Isn't he THE BEST? This was a huge mirror that occupied a large space in a small retail store on Columbus Avenue. I am inviting him to my house-warming! You don't find people like him. read more

They cut the edges of my artwork to fit a frame they made because "they didn't have the right size". This was done without my permission and they told me this when I picked up the artwork. This was years ago so they will deny it but I just got around to writing a review for this place. I would avoid this place or have them put in writing they won't cut up your artwork. read more

I took a very sentimental and beautiful original fine art poster to be framed, and Wade (& staff) spent plenty of time with me while I selected the right frame for it. He gave excellent advice and provided helpful options to refine my choices. Once it was finished I came back and noticed a minor crease in a very prominent place on the poster, which I hadn't seen before. A great frame store. They are really helpful when you are deciding how to frame your things and understand budgets. Of course, it's still expensive since it's an NYC frame store. But not more expensive than anywhere else. They are also incredibly quick in finishing jobs and call you right away when the framing is done.
