This is a must when we are in Gatlinburg! Their waffles are cooked to order and fresh! You cannot beat their caramel, cookie butter, & homemade whipped cream. I love that you can create your own to what you prefer! The staff that we have dealt with in the past has always been fine but Chris who we ordered from this week was fantastic! I was walking down the main drag in gatlinburg and wanted some ice cream. I passed by this place and decided I'd give it a try. They had a free sample available of their cookie butter, which was absolutely delicious. The guy at the window said he just finished making a batch of caramel and gave a taste of that too and WOW! So good!! I ended up buying a jar of each cuz it was so good. It also inspired me to order a cookie butter milkshake, which was to die for. Customer service was fantastic. I really enjoyed this place but I do think it is ever so slightly overpriced. I know that the ingredients are shipped from France, but there was not nearly enough cookie butter on my waffle to my liking but the service was great and it was a cute little set-up. We also went at an interesting time of year, that being in January, so perhaps that played a factor. Two people can definitely share one waffle. read more

Wow, 5/5 stars - they got us when we were walking by. Just a small window and tiny sit down area. The employees were offering free samples - fresh whipped cream with toppings of cookie batter, dark chocolate, and salted caramel. Omg, it was simply but delicious! They got us hooked. They offer these toppings on coffee drinks, waffles, shakes, etc. We opted for the shake with ice cream and cookie batter. It was decadent and simply delicious. It tasted a bit like cookies and cream - it was $10 but the entire family sharing this sweet mid day treat. I would definitely recommend the cookie batter and salted caramel. read more

We were passing the place and a young man asked if we wanted samples - his enthusiasm for waffles and how it's made was incredible. So wanted to take my granddaughter here after we tried it last year. It's amazing. Paris yummy! Forget the crazy mason shop if you want flavor and REAL food desserts this is the only place besides Maggie Mae's with real ice cream. Blue bell is flavored ice cream. Ben and Jerry's is half and half real and flavored. This waffle place is definitely a no brainer! $20 total with tip included for huge amount. So good! My husband went to pick this up and bring it back. It took 20 minutes to walk back with it and it's still warm and crispy. I'm allergic to nuts so it's nice to have something from a place that took that seriously and without worrying about contamination. I took a point off because the waffle tastes a little burnt and I can't stand any foods tasting that way but that is a personal opinion, other than this is a great dessert place to try at least once (like fried Twinkies at the carnival). Atmosphere: Waffle de Lys is a stand that offers to-go desserts. There are some benches near the shop, but it is mostly a grab-and-go type place. Service: The server at the booth initially offered us free samples of their whipped cream. Afterwards, we waited less than 10 minutes for our waffle. Food: We ordered the La Classic waffle, which came with bananas, strawberries, and whipped cream on top of a Belgian waffle. The waffle came out hot, but we were hoping for it to be more crispy. The dessert was a decent snack in the middle of a Gatlinburg outing, but felt more like casual carnival food than a European delicacy that some people suggest. We were in Gatlinburg and happened upon this quaint little place, the owner offered us samples, we were hooked right there, we still had some sightseeing to do so we told the lady we'd be back, so we stopped by in the way back to our room to pick up my bday treat, carried it all the way to room because I wanted to enjoy it sitting in my room with the Hubs, and let me tell you, it was worth it!!!!! After leaving Anakeesta's lights with my newlywed wife, we walked past this place. And the very nice lady at the window offered free samples. With that being said. Most people will stumble across this place when they're attempting to hand out free samples. Make sure to say yes because they are delicious! I decided to grab a dessert for my family on the way back and it was fantastic. I will let you know the portions are large, so after a full dinner, a family of four could easily share one serving. If you're hungry this is definitely more than enough food for you. Everyone here is extremely friendly and the service is fantastic. Highly recommend! read more

honestly a bit disappointed in the service. They called us over with free samples and the cookie butter was good so we decided to order. When we got to the pickup counter, they forgot about our water, didn't put the cookie butter on the La Crunchy, then continued to argue with my sister about the lack of cookie butter on her waffle until he looked at the sign which showed it was supposed to be on the dessert then added it. read more

A treat on the Gatlinburg strip! Most flavorful waffle I have ever had. The mix of textures offered make this place a real standout. My family of 6 got a few different waffles to try. My favorites were the ones where they skipped the ice cream and just did whipped cream (those got soggy). Delicious! I like Waffle De Lys a waffle lot! After passing by this stand a couple times in between attractions, I couldn't walk by it again without trying a waffle! The sweet smell alone will draw you in. They serve Belgian waffles made fresh to order as well as drinks like coffee, tea and hot chocolate. I'm a sucker for anything caramel, especially salted caramel, so naturally, I chose the La Caramel Bliss ($8). The waffle came with salted caramel, bananas, caramelized hazelnuts and topped with whipped cream and more caramel. One bite and oh myyy! The way the hot waffle melted the caramel and the whipped cream... Wow. Heaven on earth. Caramel bliss. Every sugar fan's dream. I split it with my son, but to be honest, I took way more bites than he did. The waffle size is shareable, but I could have easily devoured it by myself in one sitting. My friends ordered an Oh La La ($10) to share and couldn't get enough of it either. There were two people working the stand and both of them were very friendly and helpful. In my limited experience, Gatlinburg is a logistical nightmare, and this centrally located waffle window did nothing to dissuade me of this conclusion. Rather than pay $20 for the one parking space I could find, I snuck in and out quickly. Traffic was atrocious. If you're looking for reasons to take the bypass and skip this town, there are plenty. If you're looking for reasons to stick around, this dessert delivered the level of quality I'd hoped for it, with my caramel and banana waffle covered in imported sauce that tasted like imported fine caramel. I could have ordered any number of other options or built my own. Pricey, but delicious. read more

We walked up to this late night dessert place and a charming French man handed us samples of his delicious, homemade sauces...cookie butter, caramel, Belgian chocolate...you haven't had chocolate until you've had Belgian chocolate! I've visited Belgium and it's the best. The milk shakes were rich and creamy...made with Belgian chocolate and the Belgian waffle desserts out of this world...crispy but soft & fresh Belgian waffle with a scoop of ice cream and any sauces you like topped with whipped cream...amazing! My Belgian waffle dessert was supposed to serve 2 people but needless to say, I did not share. I ate it all myself and went back for more before our trip ended! It's a takeout business so you are on your own if you want to eat right away. The folks are friendly and efficient and orders are filled quickly once you get to the window. If you want to get a preview just search Auntie Ruth's on YouTube and enjoy. It's how I learned that there are a bunch of them in East Tennessee. I just know that if I didn't have enough incentive already to visit my niece then Auntie Ruth's finishes the job.

This is the most amazing dessert place in the entire area. I cannot adaquately express how awesome the Belgium waffles topped with bananas, strawberries, chocolate and the best whipping creme is. This review does a disservice to how good this little diamond in the rough of Gatlinburg is. A tremendous amount of thought, money, and effort clearly went into the design. It's bright, inviting, and visually impressive. The hostess was also warm, friendly, and welcoming from the moment we arrived. Unfortunately, that's where things started heading downhill. We began with the fried deviled eggs. Now, this should have been a slam dunk. Fried? Deviled eggs? What's not to love? The answer: the breading. There was so much of it that it overwhelmed everything else. Instead of enhancing the flavor, it buried it. The deviled egg filling barely had a chance to introduce itself before getting tackled by the coating. Then came the Farmer's Garden Omelette, which both my wife and I ordered based on our server Katie's recommendation. What arrived was an omelette that seemed to have a strained relationship with vegetables. The spinach was still essentially raw, and the vegetables felt less like ingredients and more like something someone remembered at the last second. "Oh no, this is supposed to be a vegetable omelette." Tosses vegetables into center. Closes omelette. Problem solved. The result was an omelette where the eggs and vegetables never really came together as a dish. But the biggest disappointment wasn't the food. It was the service. Our server disappeared for extended stretches despite the restaurant being nearly empty. Water glasses sat empty. No tea refills. No check-ins. At one point I started wondering if she'd been recruited into a witness protection program. The only time my iced tea was refilled was when I finally asked for the check. That's generally not the point in the meal when you're hoping service suddenly kicks into gear. What makes this experience so frustrating is the potential. The restaurant looks fantastic. The location is great. The ownership has a proven track record nearby. But on this visit, the food execution and service simply didn't match the reputation. Disappointed. Not the breakfast experience we expected. And in a town overflowing with outstanding breakfast options, that's a tough miss. Two stars. Try another breakfast spot. In Gatlinburg, you have plenty of excellent choices.
