I really hate to give bad reviews, especially in a period of time when businesses are struggling to get good help and stay afloat. My husband and I split the Country Ham Platter with an extra side of grits. It came with 2 eggs, country ham, grits and biscuit or toast. We got a biscuit. They even cooked one egg over easy and one scrambled at our asking. The eggs, grits, biscuit and coffee were great. DO NOT get the ham!!! It immediately grossed me out at the smell but I thought...maybe it's just me. I eventually cut a piece and put it up to my mouth. As soon as it touched my tongue I put it down and told my husband that something wasn't right about it and I wasn't eating it. My husband can often eat things that I can't but he also said something wasn't right. I scrolled through the Yelps and saw a review about the exact same thing just 28 days earlier. When we paid I told the manager that I thought something was wrong with the ham and she said she sells a lot of it. I told her she should taste it for herself. She told me she doesn't eat meat and I said that someone on her staff needed to taste it because it was definitely rancid and they should not sell it! She didn't seem concerned about the issue at all. We haven't eaten there since. read more

No dogs allowed inside, of course, but Buddy was allowed to lie on the shaded front porch and greet all the customers as they entered. Great pancakes, country ham and eggs! My normal rating criteria says I should probably go with 3 stars but the unbelievable sweetness of the ladies working today and the chocolate pie almost sent it to a four. Weirdest place I've ever been to eat. I had to look around to see if there were cameras. Service was slow at best. My burger was actually decent but it couldn't overcome "Granny I'm assuming-yelling at the older regular for complaining his iced tea cup tasted like chlorine. This used to be our favorite place to go and now there never open. We have went on 3 different days of the week at 3 different times of the day and even though they have a huge sign saying there open they have a chain across the porch saying there closed. Great decor and vibe. The waitresses were very nice, but that's all I can say that was good about our experience. The restaurant was about 3/4 full of people eating, yet there was zero aroma in the air from the food. That should have been our sign to leave. My sausage, onion, egg, and cheese omelette was so bland I had to cover it in pepper and hot sauce before it was edible. Next was the sausage gravy and biscuits. I thought to myself, they are going to knock this out of the park. Boy was I wrong. I don't think the biscuits had raised more than half an inch. The gravy had no sausage in it, and had zero taste. It was like eating paste with a piece of slightly toasted bread While I was choking down my food I had noticed that both waitresses had been coughing since we arrived. I looked over at one of them, and she was covering her mouth with her hands while she was coughing. I had seen the listing for Grandmother's on Yelp and thought it would be kind of neat to eat here today since I ate at Grandma's yesterday lol. I chose a different place instead, but there was an enormous wait to get in, so fate led me here anyway. Wears Valley was hosting a fall festival with bumper to bumper traffic crawling for miles in both directions. So when I saw the sign, I decided to get off the road for a little bit and have breakfast. The place is small and charming. One of the servers seemed a little frazzled this morning, but my server did a great job. The food was very tasty. The tenderloin I had complemented the biscuits and gravy very well. The scrambled egg was okay...I like mine dry and fluffy, and parts of this one were a little wet. The coffee was good, and my cup was kept filled. I would have breakfast here again, but hopefully without the stressful traffic situation and the chaotic service. Overall, however, it was an enjoyable breakfast...as fate would have it. read more

The pineapple coconut cake is definitely homemade, sweet and fluffy and delicious @ $3.50 a slice. I intend to return during the week, when fewer people are in the area. A Sunday on a 3 day weekend is too busy for me, as the booths are a bit too cozy and close together. Actually for being busy and having all ages eating, it was pleasantly quiet. I definitely recommend eating here in Wears Valley on the way from Pigeon Forge to Townsend via Wear Valley Road.. about 10 minutes from the parkway.. One can continue on to Townsend to either go left to the river road to the Cove or right to the nice town of Maryville .. Returned Thursday for lunch of fried chicken.. not disappointed Returned in Late February about 1:45 pm Tuesday and place was not as busy. I enjoyed the chit-chat with patrons and with 'Grandma'. The words 'Grandma's Kitchen' conjure some pretty serious memories that this decent diner just doesn't quite live up to. My gram was a killer cook! While my BLT was extremely affordable at under $5, it was also the bare minimum of what is required of the acronym: maybe three or four small slices of bacon, a decent amount of shredded lettuce, and only enough tomato to get some in about half my bites. If I went again I'd order a side of bacon and a side of toast plus some tomato and make my own sandwich. My friend's side of bacon plate had at least twice as much bacon on it as my sandwich did. This is not how my Granny rolled! My friend's all ordered breakfast, though, and the omlette plates looked very generous. This is functionally a cash only establishment (there was enough of an upcharge for credit that my friends all busted out their phones to Venmo the one person with plenty of cash in his wallet), and there's scripture everywhere you look so if your Grandma wasn't a Christian it may not remind you of her kitchen. Frankly between that and the museum of cast iron cookware on the walls it felt a bit more like Grandma's Kitsch-en. read more

Typical diner food, but a good place to stop for a meal outside Townsend. The place is pretty small so food comes out quickly, but seats can be hard to find. I ate breakfast here with my family before visiting Cades Cove. This is an exceptional restaurant and everything we ordered was cooked to perfection. The biscuits were AMAZING! The single waitress was great. She even held my baby grandson while we ate. A REAL family atmosphere complete with an "OUTHOUSE" for restrooms. Actually a separate building with modern facilities. Off the beaten-path and away from the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg nightmare. This is a little hole-in-the wall that serves great breakfast. I know that breakfast is hard to screw up, but it's also hard to do really well. The biscuits are featured on the sign for a reason - they really are something special. While visiting, I learned that a cathead biscuit is an Old-Tymey [sic] word to describe the size of a biscuit.
