My bowl of grits, loaded with fluffy scrambled eggs and crispy golden bacon!
    Maybelin A.

It was 11pm and we were starving after a long drive from coming up to Gainesville to pick up my daughter so she could spend the weekend back home in Miami. Everyone was in the mood for breakfast so we decided on Waffle House. Something different because I am tired of Denny's and IHOP. The place was empty except for a guy waiting on a takeout order. We were warmly greeted by the hostess and promptly cared for by our super pleasant waitress. She gave us a few minutes so we could decide what we wanted to order and even when she came around again after she brought us our drinks, my youngest was still undecided on what she wanted to order and she still gave us a little more time. After we all decided on what we were having, the kind and attentive waitress (can't remember her name) took our order and I swear not even 10 minutes had passed when I see her bringing our food. Talk about quick service! Oh and nothing was missing or looked like they had done it way too quickly. Everything on our plates looked nice and need and DELICIOUS! I ordered a bowl of grits with scrambled eggs and bacon AND it was extremely GOOD! The bacon wasn't burned. It was crispy and cooked to perfection. So were the eggs. Very fluffy. My middle daughter ordered the same thing as me BUT with hash browns instead of the grits and it was very good too. The hash brown were golden. Looked like the ones you see on commercials. The Chef deserves a pay raise!!! I know breakfast food isn't that hard BUT believe me, I've been to places that can't even get their toasts right! The waffle was another hit! YUM!!! Oh and the bathroom was very clean. Very impressed! This place is a little gem with it's cleanliness, hospitality, friendliness and yummy food!! When I'm back in town, I will definitely pay them another visit. Now I know where to go when I'm in the mood for some inexpensive breakfast that will taste like a 5 star hotel!!!

I thought they would be served chilled, but they fried them. They were very good though, lightly fried with a very good dipping sauce. We also split the jambalaya, which was a very generous portion. The jambalaya was very, very delicious. The place has a cozy, dark, masculine, old school feel. Bartender very friendly. I'll definitely go back when in Gainesville again.

We sat at the bar, and were greeted by one of the bartenders and took our drink order. We saw the fried blue crab claws, and figured we would give it a shot. Well, they were just okay, nothing that we would probably order again. Wife had the crab cakes and loved them, very good. I had the chicken and grits. I was excited until it showed up. I could tell just by looking at this super thin fried chicken, that it was going to be rock solid. I was right. The chicken was tough, chewy and stringy. It was cooked well past well done. I tried to eat it, I don't like to complain, but I could only get about 3 bits into it. I pushed it away. When one of the bartenders came by and was taking it away without even asking why an entire plate is being thrown away without hardly any food eaten. So I said it was way overcooked, and inedible, he didn't even respond, just took it and threw it away. No questions. No offer to get something else, just walked away. After that we decided we would go somewhere else, when we got the bill, it was still on there. That was very unprofessional, and I don't think we will be coming back anytime soon.

The menu looked great, reviews were good, so I made a reservation for 1:45. We got lucky and found a good parking spot next door. We got to the host stand, two young ladies were there taking care of business. They were talking to a couple, I figured they were looking for a table.. after standing there and waiting for a few minutes, we realized they were just talking about their plans for the weekend. Finally after a few minutes of standing there, one of the two hostess realized that we were there to get food and she apologized and asked for our reservation info. Meanwhile, the other person just stood there. There was a bit of attitude happening, I won't type it all now, but after about 14 minutes after our reservation the helpful lady took us to our booth. On our way to our booth, we noticed there was water everywhere. I'm surprised nobody had slipped, the condensation from the A/C was pouring over everything.the tables were wet, the floors were dangerously wet. There were no fans, for being in Gainesville in August it was more humid than outside. After we got our table dried off, and didn't slip on our way to the booth, we were greeted. I'm sorry,I didn't catch her name, but our server was very fri, she was new b/c she had a trainer with her. They were both great. We started with the pancake sliders, meh, they really tasted like they were frozen and just microwaved, the 4 sauces with it, weren't amazing and they were all old,as were the pancakes. Anyway, we ordered our lunch. The pear Gorgonzola salad was really good.i had the brunch tacos. It was a little spicier than I expected. That's fine, but it looked like it has spent time under the heat lamp. The cheese wasn't even melted. Honestly, we probably won't be back, the server and her trainer were very friendly, and helpful. They did a great job. The hostess, well, one of them was dismissive and acted like we were a bother.

Apple Maps struggled to provided proper directions to parking and it might be because the area is under construction so just give yourself time to find Loosey's especially if going for dinner. It sure is worth the effort though, especially if you get Matthew as your server. He is full of wit and great local knowledge. He charmed our table from our first encounter. Loosey's has to be a local favorite because the quality and freshness of the food is outstanding. Matthew is a local treasure and made our experience there so memorable and fun. We all remarked that it must be so electric there when live music is on stage or it's a Gator game day. We started with the loaded potato skins. There were 5 large pieces that were covered with toppings and delivered pipping hot. I could easily order that as a meal next time I'm in town. Their house ranch dipping sauce that is drizzled on top was delicious. Several in our group ordered the Chic-fil Loosey's, which is a buttermilk fried chicken sandwich, but I wasn't able to grab a photo as they were so eager to get started eating it. The portion of chicken breast was extremely large and the batter was perfectly crispy. Both diners exclaimed it was one of their all- time favorite chicken sandwiches they had ever eaten. Another diner took advantage of their wing special and exclaimed the Buffalo Garlic sauce was fantastic and she paired them with their ranch as well. She loved their added touch of the small paper basket topping the plate of wings for the bones. I had the Classic Beef Burger and it was cooked perfectly. There was a nice peppery flavor to the grill of the burger and the patty size was more than I expected. Especially for the price. I was so happy we found Loosey's. It was really good food. I encourage you to look past the construction mess and the "old wooden bar" stereotypes and trust me when o say, they take great pride on preparing high quality food.
