On our trip to Mackinaw Island, Michigan, we were thrilled to see a few Waffle Houses popping up along the way. So, when it was time for lunch today, we were more than happy to eat at the Painesville, OH Waffle House just off I-90. We had a freaking blast! The place was neat and clean, the staff was lovely, the food was excellent and dirt cheap. Both of us had lunch for a grand total of $13.13 before tip. A waffle was $4.50, a big cup of chili was an unbelievable $2.50, and a coffee and Diet Coke were $2.75 and $2.50. My chili was excellent- loaded with ground beef, beans, veggies and tomatoey chilified goodness. What a freaking bargain for $2.50. Life is best when you savor the simple joys. Service was worst I've ever seen. Order was wrong and waitress insisted she had it correct and was not going to have it remade. When we approached her we were told to step off the floor. While we paid for our uneaten meals, the manager/supervisor heard every word, and did nothing. We were regulars, easily, 2-3 times a week to the point most of the staff knows our order. Outside and inside it looks like your run-of-the-mill Waffle House. Which isn't a bad thing because you always know what you're going to get here. There was one girl working the tables for the whole restaurant! She was moving as fast as she could! And she was pleasant, even though she was super super busy. Sometimes in a very stressful situation, people lose their good manners - but she greeted people and continued to be pleasant although she was ultra busy! I hope people tipped her well The food came out fast and hot and actually well seasoned. I got biscuits and gravy and my husband got eggs and bacon. The diner from Georgia that made it real real real real real big and branched out all over the south and is slowly but surely making its way north and east. I'm still envious that Michigan doesn't have one of these gastronomic institutions. The alter ego of HiHOP. The better one if as far as I'm concerned. We ordered the t-bone steak combo, one for each. I ended up with the short end of the stick since for some reason, that day we walked in, was the day they only had one t-bone steak left. So, no big deal,,, fiance' get's the better cut. I'll just settle for the sirloin. Which if cooked properly, as it was, medium rare is still a pretty good cut of meat. hashbrowns with mushrooms and texas toast for the win. Pair that up with a hot cup of coffee and I am a very happy camper. The place was really nice and orderly. We seem to have walked in right before their dinner rush, so It was very empty. We did get primo seats at the bar as well. Plus, we were pretty much the only customers at the time, so we did get their full undivided attention. Its a beautiful day so I'm out on the motorcycle for about 4 hours and its time to get something to eat; unfortunately its Easter Sunday so not that many places are open. Fortunately I remember that there is a Waffle House at I-90 and Route 44. I may lose some of my foodie cred, but even though I generally don't like chain restaurants, I do have a soft spot for the Waffle House. This trip I ordered a waffle and a medium hashbrowns scattered and capped (with mushrooms added. The waffle is a large disc, fairly thin with a good slightly sweet flavor. The waffle has a softer outside, but the inside is fluffy and perfect to soak up the syrup. The hashbrowns are exactly what they should be, crisped up on the grill with good potato taste, but not too greasy. There are plenty of jokes about Waffle Houses, but I have found that they are good road food, the food is good, service is friendly and fast, your order is cooked fresh and served quickly; prices are good and most of the time the restaurants are clean. You can count on the Waffle House to give good, decent food at a reasonable price. read more

Waffle House hits as hard as a ex husband. You never think you'll go back till its 4am and your needing a pick me up.

Stopped in for Sunday morning breakfast. When we arrived we had to wait 10 minutes or so for a table. (good sign!) Because the kitchen and dining room are attached with no walls in between, sometimes cleanliness is an issue with Waffle Houses. This one is VERY clean! The service was superb and the food was excellent. Next time I'm in Sarasota, I will eat breakfast here. The whole time I was there, I watched the interaction of the staff with each other and the customers. Everyone was having fun and seemed to be happy to be at work...ie; they care. Super yummy food! I stopped for some lunch on my way to Buffalo. Service was good and food was okay. Ordered sausage, egg and cheese hashbrown bowl and sweet ice tea. Stopped here for a quick dinner driving back home from Florida. I haven't been to a Waffle House in about 2 years. The place is semi clean (waitress was sweeping after we arrived), located a short distance from the freeway. Wasn't busy. Food was served to my parents, 2 steak melts with hash browns. They enjoyed theirs. Mine came about 5 minutes later. A Texas toast chicken melt and I got grits as my side. Sandwich was surprisingly good. Hot and melty with bacon and grilled onions on top of grilled Texas toast. My grits were good after I added butter and salt. You know, the good stuff. Overall it was decent. Nothing to write home about. It's a nice Waffle House with good quick food for a good price. 3 dinners 2 pops for 31$ not including tip. Can't complain too much. Their breakfast looks good. This Waffle House is straight up rude!!!! There is a server named Zach, who is awful, and our server was Jennifer. She was alright, nothing special. Didn't really talk to ya, didn't care about us or how our food was. The steak was horrible, not editable. My friend got the hash browns with chilli, again was not edible but the server didn't care. My friend pulled out his card and Zach came over and asked if that was his daddy's card, and kept questioning us if we were coming from a bar, but clearly were not. This place is horrible. Absolutely horrible service. Watch out !! Not worth the $10 anyways. read more

It's a cheap diner, what do you expect? Didn't expect service to be so horrible. Like, sorry our group of 10 ruined your fun of sitting around doing nothing on a Sunday. Guess they were used to no one coming in at all, and it was quite an inconvenience for them. Jon especially. Yeah, obviously 10 people is a little difficult for seating, and a large party can be a bit overwhelming... but god damn it Jon you could have been A LOT better...or the very least put in some effort. We stopped here on a trip from Chicago to NH. Our waffles and omelets were very good. The service was not what you would call great. It was extraordinary! Everyone was friendly, as they should be, but they all seemed to take care to make sure we were enjoying our time there and had enough to drink to take with us to continue our road trip. I am unusually excited to write this review. Waffle House is a nostalgic thing to most 80's kids but I am from Boston so that also touches a sense of rarity in that we have zero anywhere near us. I ate at them while traveling to Disney or going on family trips down south to Myrtle Beach. I feel like despite them being cheap and everyday fare, they are a treat. That being said it is usually just okay food, lukewarm, and served by someone that would rather be out doing something else. NOT AT THIS WAFFLE HOUSE! This is the most wonderful Waffle House staff on the planet. The gentleman that served us had to leave at the end of our meal (he was amazing BTW) because we came in during shift change and everyone was so nice I could've hugged them. Talk about a smooth shift change. The place was not full since I think it was like 2pm but my family of 6 was given two tables and served piping hot wonderful food and for moms that is a miracle to eat while its hot. They even made a fresh batch of gravy for my husband because the waiter said that he didn't think the last batch was good enough to serve. The quality and kindness shocked me and I wish I was a regular at this location despite living about a thousand miles away. These are the people that make food service still worth it. Go here! Go here every chance you can to support this awesome staff! We will be back at least once a year when we travel to my in laws in Illinois for the holidays! read more

Arrived on a busy Saturday morning for breakfast with my mom. The group in front of us was seated immediately at the counter. We were told by the host we'd have to wait for a table but it should only be a minute. The table opened up and one of the waitresses told the group at the counter they could take the table (apparently they didn't like the exhaust fan blowing on them) I spoke up telling them we were waiting for a table (the host had disappeared.) Why the waitress was moving people around while there were other waiting to be seated is beyond me. For what it's worth she later apologized saying she should have just let the host do his job. We were seated and given menus. No sooner did the menus hit the table were we asked if we still needed a minute to decide. We were rushed to order drinks immediately. We were asked if we were ready to order 2 more times by a different waitress within a minute. My mom and I ordered the same thing. A waffle and a side of bacon. My waffle came almost immediately. Hers about two minutes later. The bacon arrived when I was almost done eating my not very hot waffle. Again, my bacon arrived about 2 minutes before my mom's. Then it took about 10 min to get a check. The waitress didn't charge us for one of the overpriced waffles for the inconvenience of earlier hence the extra star on my review. As for the food. The waffles weren't nearly as big and thick as I remember, and are overpriced for what they are IMO. (We both got plain waffles) They weren't hot, and had an acrid almost burnt taste to them. The bacon was bacon. Pretty hard to screw that up. I won't be returning that's for sure. Waffle House was better off left as a memory. read more
