Karina was hostess this morning and I just loved her energy. She should get a raise. She was pure sunshine, organized and so fast.

Another example of a review I've written before but mysteriously yelp has deleted it for some…read morereason. So I'll keep it short (for me). We did not realize this is a chain which isn't a problem in and of itself however, it's rare that chain breakfast restaurants are worth our money or time. In this case we felt they missed on every possible opportunity. Service was sketchy, we had to ask them to take our order, remind them four times for an item they kept forgetting to bring out, they burned one item, served it anyway and the waitress apologized. When she should have simply not served it at all. If I was the manager I would have been ashamed of what came out but if our orders were typical they may simply be used to being mediocre. We were in mid week and there were not a lot of customers. So we were surprised that they had run out of several things on the menu. That's simply bad management, they could have gone next door to the grocery store and bought the missing items. I had a sandwich which was just ordinary bread with almost no meat, and two small pieces of wilted leafy greens that did not even cover 1/4 of the sandwich. And this was the special. It was dry, over priced, and there was nothing on it, I mean nothing but a single bite of meat. Then getting some things wrong that a breakfast joint should do really well left us both thinking we won't come back. For example the scrambled eggs were terrible, how does a restaurant good up scrambled eggs? Literally anywhere does a better job. This is basically a Denny's with a smaller menu and lower quality. Skip this place and find an ihop or Metro diner with both just a little down the street.

But I made a breakfast date with a friend who had not been here and we really enjoyed our meal. Service by Kim was excellent. She kept an eye on us but didn't bug us. I tried the Morning Meditation which was really nice but wow, lots of ginger. For my meal I got the Banana Brittle French toast. Excellent! You get two large pieces of French toast. I could only eat one. My friend had the Turkey sausage gravy and biscuit. She enjoyed it. I tried it and you could not tell it was turkey which was good. First Watch is clean and has an upbeat atmosphere.

The…read morereviews were right: bright, welcoming atmosphere, friendly service, and fresh, beautifully prepared food. We genuinely enjoyed our breakfast and would have happily given the experience five stars. Then we went to pay. While my husband was paying the bill, I was looking at a cookbook near the register when a couple of folded $100 bills fell from his pocket. I saw them fall. I also saw the cashier quickly move his foot over them. Before I could react, he picked up the cookbook I'd been looking at and handed it to me. "No, thank you," I said. "Oh no," he replied. "I insist. My treat." Really? I was stunned and started to respond when our son quietly interrupted. "Mom, it's okay." I tried to protest. Again: "Mom. It's okay." Outside, I asked, "Do you realize Dad dropped money?" Then I looked at my husband. "Honey?" "Yes," they said. "We saw it too." Marines are trained to assess a situation and respond, and that's exactly what they did. A cashier without integrity, someone willing to risk his employment over a couple hundred dollars is a sad and desperate person. As for that cookbook? I've never used it. It sits in my kitchen among all the others, as a reminder of what two Marines taught me that morning. And to that cashier, should you ever read this: Your sleight of hand--or foot, in this case--didn't go unnoticed. You weren't quicker. You're not smarter. You didn't fool anyone. A couple Marines showed you mercy.

We were greeted quickly upon arriving into Liliana's Colombian Restaurant and Bakery by an older gentleman, you could tell he has pride in this restaurant the way he spoke and helped with everything. The food, we order tostones for an appetizer. They were crispy, light, and simple. Could've used a bit of salt personally but the garlic sauce they came with really made up for it. So good! The steak had a ton of flavor, and the yellow rice was solid, though my family actually liked the white rice better overall. We ordered a mix of plates with yellow rice and fries, others with white rice and tostones. I went with the arroz con pollo (classic choice), and my youngest had the chicken nuggets and fries. Only downside: my meal came out about 10 minutes after everyone else's, which was a little frustrating but not warrant for complaints. Our waiter was really sweet, a tad slow checking in sometimes, but he was super accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed. He even got honey on the side for my kiddos nuggets. Odd request but it's a thing. A big surprise but we got a free choice of a pastry at the end, which was really nice. My kids picked flan and said it was light, firm, but still creamy. Not too mushy. In the end the vibe is very family friendly. They play Latin music in the background, but it's quiet and chill, easy to drown out and still enjoy. I would love to see this place flourish, I know they deserve it, there's a lot of love put into this place. If we're ever in town again, we'll be back.

The food, well let's just say that I rarely come upon a menu that I plan other visits just to plow through the menu. I'm literal about planning additional visits to sample items not on the menu. I asked our very helpful and sweet server Jersey if she had only 2 choices with one being chicken fried chicken or the daily special Taco Salad, which would she go with and she said the taco salad. So, that's what I ordered. It was very tasty, loaded with 2 types of cheese a side of Jalapeño (which I gave to hubby) alot of fresh tomatoes and lettuce, a side of salsa and sour cream served in a somewhat crispy tortilla shell. And the shell is the only reason for a 4 star vs 5, the shell wasn't as light and crispy as I like it. It tasted as if they fried it several hours ago and honestly, I get why they did it that way as it saves time but the shell just left me disappointed. Hubby ordered a patty melt with fries. We came into town to scope out the Jacksonville Landing for future bass fishing mornings and when I told him we were stopping in here for lunch he already knew he was having the melt. I mean, he thought about it for 90 minutes lol. I've had their melts before and it is yummy. I think though the fries were the star on his plate. They were crispy on the outside and pillowy on the inside and topped with something akin to Old Bay Seasoning. And they were HOT! Y'all, i mean, they're only fries but rhey were PERFECT! I am seriously alreasy looking forward to our 1st fishing adventure just so we can have lunch at the Kettle once we've caught all the bass. Jersey was quite attentive, but not hovering and warm friendly like only you'll find in the south. Oh, bestie told me to get the chocolate torte because she said, literally, "it's life altering." However, I forgot to so, just another thing for me to enjoy after our initial fishing trip. In some ways, you can go home again.
