You may have driven past this place a hundred times, I know I have. There isn't even a sign…read more What? No sign... Yep! There's no sign. When it was being built I thought, why build a gas station across from a gas station? Tucked in what appears to the naked eye as a simple gas station/convenience store is Donuts & Deli. It's no secret I'm from California as I reminiscence often of cool balmy beach weather as I swelter in the humid heat of Southern Louisiana. Louisianians love their snowballs, but we Californians LOVE us some donuts. We have as many donut joints as you have snowball stands, maybe even more. After hearing about this place ( from darling Alexis), I was eager to get my hands on some donuts. They serve a selection of classic donuts, glazed, chocolate, Bavarian cream, jelly filled and sprinkles. But then.......a wide grin as big a the Cheshire Cat creeped across my face as I eye spied a cinnamon roll as big as my head. The little Alice in Wonderland within me jumped for joy as I drooled over the various donut holes and miniature apple fritters, perfect for any mad hatter tea party. We order the giant cinnamon roll, chocolate covered donuts and jelly filled holes, all delicious! I thought I'd try their original potato, filled with the yumminess of bacon bits, cheese, butter, sour cream and green onions for a whopping $3.29 ....their menu includes sandwiches, burgers and smoked meat lunch plates....it's was obvious that some knew about this place as a dozen or so worker guys were chowing down at tables located inside..... And I was assured that the sign is coming soon....... What I discovered, even though my name isn't Alice nor did I follow a white rabbit down a hole....is that I won't have to travel far to grab delicious donuts or a bite for lunch.......Donuts & Deli gets the California stamp of approval, I'm a fan!

It's one of my all-time favorite spots, so I couldn't wait to share the experience with her--and she absolutely LOVED it. Our server, Joe, was outstanding--knowledgeable, attentive, and a true pro when it came to walking us through the menu and drinks. We kicked things off with cocktails (the Salt & Pepper Tomato Martini and a Dirty Martini) and appetizers: the grillade kabobs plus the crawfish & andouille rangoons. Every single bite was fabulous. For entrées, we had the corn husk-steamed Gulf fish and the crab aglio e olio, paired with the summer squash gratin on the side. And to top it all off, dessert was nothing short of perfection: bread pudding waffles with ice cream. Cinclare never disappoints--it's always a 10/10 experience, and this visit was no exception.

Well, what I will say though is over the last year/ year and a quarter it's been pretty solid. I've had a few breakfasts here and a dinner here. Right now as of March 29th and 30th of 2024 I've had two breakfast here and they've been excellent and the service has been very good. I had a ribeye steak and eggs with hash browns and raisin toast and the following morning I came in and I had a couple of eggs sausage patties raisin toast again so it was tasty with the hash browns. The eggs were cooked the way that I like them over easy once sunny side up the other. The service was great the coffee was hot so reflecting my experience which is how I do my reviews I may go into a one-star restaurant give it five damn Stars LOL!! I booked this restaurant because I remembered how much I enjoyed their complimentary bread and oil,…read moreand I knew it could comfortably accommodate a larger group for a celebration. Unfortunately, four guests from my party were unable to attend. Only then was I informed of a $15 fee per empty chair. I was shocked. Had I known about this policy beforehand, I would have either chosen a different restaurant or made sure my guests understood the policy. I called three times in total: once to make the reservation, a second time yesterday to adjust the party size (I reached voicemail and left a message), and a third time today at opening to update the number again. During both the initial booking and the final call--when the reservation size was discussed--I was never told about the $15 fee for each empty chair. When I was told there would be a $60 charge for the guests who couldn't attend, I felt gutted. If I had been made aware of this policy at any point during my calls, I would have planned differently, especially knowing some family members might not be able to make it. We all just came from an important ceremony celebrating my accomplishments at Nicholls, and I was so excited to bring my family here--especially because I'd been raving about their delicious bread and oil. Unfortunately, I learned that it had been taken off the menu six months ago. The manager was also dismissive and disrespectful. Instead of addressing the issue professionally, she insisted that she had informed me of the policy over the phone, which was simply not true. Like I've stated before, I would have planned accordingly had I known about this fee. I have years of experience working in customer service. I completely understand the need for policy's like these. I just think there absolutely needs to be a conversation about the no show policy. After the encounter with the unprofessional manager, I asked her if we could pay for our drinks and leave. The waitress ended up coming back and explaining their need for the policy- which I appreciated and expressed my understanding and apologies, as well as the fact that this fee was never once brought up to me. She said the drinks were on the house and we left a tip for her... I hope something changes for the sake of this restaurant.
