Where Were All the Hidden Cameras? ****************************************** This is not actually a Waffle House chain restaurant. It is a Hollywood movie set for a Southern breakfast diner in the shell of a Waffle House. The actresses playing the waitresses are true to character. I don't know how the imported California cuties got the southern accent so pitch perfect. They greet you with an authentic "hi y'all" the minute you walk in the door. Although waffles may be on the menu for show, I don't think they really have actual waffle makers in the kitchen. They would have had to get rid of them to make room for the extra deep fat fryers. The only meals I saw being served were chicken fried steaks, biscuits with sausage gravy, and deep fried pineapple chunks. The extras on the set must have been locals. I've never seen so many pick up trucks off of a Marine Corps Base. The extras closely followed their scripts, discussing only hunting, grandma's health, and Seminoles football. I wasn't sure whether to tip, but I did anyway. I hope they're filming on my next trip to Thomasville.

We've heard about Empire for a while but hadn't managed to get there during the morning hours…read more We woke up this morning with a craving for a solid bagel sandwich and took the drive up to Thomasville for what is undoubtably, one of the best breakfast sandwiches we've ever eaten. The line upon arrival was at least 15 to 20 deep, but it moved so quickly. If you arrive to a wait, do not let it deter you. They hustle!!! It was just a short wait for our food to be freshly prepared. We both opted for the same sandwich with different bagel flavors. The sesame bagel was absolutely loaded with sesame seeds. There's nothing worse than a bagel that claims to be a "sesame" bagel that only has a sad smattering of seeds across one side. This bagel was absolutely loaded up. Crispy on the outside, soft and tender on the inside, loaded with a huge portion of scrambled egg , this breakfast sandwich was enough for two people to share, but we did not! I would literally drive up to Thomasville from Tallahassee again just for the sandwich. You cannot beat their price point. This breakfast would be twice as much in Tallahassee as it is at Empire. Empire has a quaint, local NY bagel shop vibe. You can order bagels for the office or just a sack to take home. The assorted smears have something for everyone, with Canoli flavor being a bonus for your sweet tooth. I'm already planning a lunch trip in the near future.

They make their own bagels fresh daily and have many delicious shmears to choose from. The 'Brunchwrap' is my absolute favorite but I always recommend checking out the specials board, you can't go wrong! The 'Billyburg' grilled cheese is my favorite lunch choice along with the pasta salad. You won't be disappointed with this sweet but spicy spin on a classic grilled cheese. We like to sit outside and watch the locals. Its a laid back kind of vibe on the bricks downtown.

Last night we came to celebrate my son's birthday. We were seated promptly for our reservation. Service was great with our server telling us if the specials (the daily blue and the yellowtail collars they had as an appetizer). We ordered a round of drinks for the table. All was going well. The smoked fish dip was good - a solid performer. We especially liked the pickled veg that came along side it. Our mains consisted of the daily blue, two had the new chicken sandwich, and I ordered the duroc aged pork chop. Liam's is fancy now, with mains not coming with sides. This certainly cranked up the bill. I had the pork chop, which was really small despite the declared weight and the price of $45. The taste was good, but didn't really impress me. The daily blue had skin that was charred, but the fish part was good. My daughter wasn't impressed with that. The chicken sandwiches, however, were a hit. Go figure. All but the daily blue ordered a side dish. Two had the mashed potatoes, which were good, I ordered the side with stringy cheese, prosciutto, peaches, and sliced peppers. No flavor. I get the bill and there is a $9.40-something charge in there for a "non-cash transaction". Also, my two drinks were charged a dollar more than the menu price. With everything there at a premium price (a larger and much better pork chop can be had at St James for more than $10 less - with sides!), everything is a la carte, and a silly charge for not having cash means I'm done with Liam's. The place where I discovered my first and favorite scotch, a love for unique cheeses, and great cooking techniques has been outdone by at least one local competitor while increasing prices and serving less. It's a shame, but they never seem to be full, so instead of improving value and delivery, they've gone to increasing prices.

French bread toasted and topped with fried oysters, poached eggs, and a Cajun cream sauce. So delicious and perfectly prepared. Bloody Mary paired very well with this dish! French cut pork chop, blackened, and topped with mango chutney! So tender and juicy! I chose collard greens as one side and they have that true southern taste! Red beans and rice as the second side...a personal favorite. We sat outside as it has a great vibe since it's located at an old train depot! If you're lucky a train will pass by while you're dining! The store is under an interior redesign as of early April 2025, but don't let that deter you. The donuts and pastries are as good as they have ever been. Staff are polite, friendly and personable. They go out of their way to help fill your order and will take their time to name every donut in the display case. If you're in a hurry, don't forget to request an order of glazed donut holes! You can tell they're made fresh daily. They taste so crisp and melt in your mouth. I do recommend going on the early side. I tend to visit on Saturdays and you can tell they've been busy because the case has few options if you go after 10:30 am. Not really worth the wait. Decent food. Friendly staff. But nothing super special. For Thomasville, I get it, but I live in Pensacola where there is a place like this on every corner. I had the grouper sandwich (blackened) and the fried green tomatoes for a starter. The FGTs were very good. The sandwich was average except that the ciabatta bun was exceptional. Cheese grits on the side were above average. Brussels sprouts were just like any bistro Brussels sprouts ever (man, I wish this trend would die, but I keep ordering them hoping to be surprised.) The place was PACKED (as usual) but the staff were friendly and attentive. For me, however, this is expected in any restaurant. Therefore: 3 stars for decent - if unimaginative- food and good service. Will not come back unless there is no line ... albeit an unlikely scenario.
