Waffle House is a Southern classic. My dad used to take me almost every week before Sunday school as a kid. Today I decided to take my friend to try it for the first time today. It did not disappoint. She and I loved the hashbrowns, waffles, and egg and cheese biscuit. It was nostalgic and reasonably priced. Our server was very friendly and eager to give us the best experience possible. She made sure our drinks were filled, our food came out fast, and checked to see if we needed anything. This location was also very clean and had a health rating of 96!

My children and I enjoyed this waffle House to the max! It was very busy at 815 on a Saturday morning. Even still, we were greeted with sweet names like honey and sweetie and baby and immediately told about an open booth. Savannah was our server and she was an AMAZING communicator. She got our orders in fast and our food out fast. She is amazing in every way. I will come back to this WH if I'm ever close by again. The food was really good too. Savannah suggested custom waffles for my son, with peanut butter and chocolate chips and he loved them. Just a wonderful experience all around.

Chocolate chip waffle and Peanut butter waffle. Both equally as good so choose your favorite!

Quick service, nice waitress, and good waffles. There isnt much else to say about waffle house as its just your normal diner food. But wow once or twice a year a waffle house trip really hits the spot.

An incorrectly made hash brown cheesesteak bowl the second time

If I could give a negative rating for this restaurant I would. I ordered a cheese steak hash brown bowl and when I received it it had everything on it including chili diced ham mushrooms tomatoes. I took it back in I pointed out to the menu what goes on it even told him what I wanted on it and the second time I got it it had tomatoes mushrooms diced ham and some foreign piece of trash. And on top of that they often put gravy on top of it. Obviously they were all being smart asses. I would not eat there right now with the crew and idiots that are running this joint.

    Warm and Cozy... not..

Freezing in here. Food cold after 10 seconds on the table. Floor dirty. Nice server . AC was running full blast. I have two coats and a blanket. Lady next to us has sweat shirt and ear muffs.

You see them everywhere and with good reason. Have you heard the phrase Waffle House Index (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waffle_House_Index)? No? Well read on... "The Waffle House Index is an informal metric used by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to determine the effect of a storm and the likely scale of assistance required for disaster recovery. The measure is based on the reputation of the Waffle House restaurant chain for staying open during extreme weather and for reopening quickly, albeit sometimes with a limited menu, after very severe weather events such as tornadoes or hurricanes. The term was coined by FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate in May 2011, following the 2011 Joplin tornado; the two Waffle House restaurants in Joplin remained open after the EF5 multiple-vortex tornado struck the city on May 22. According to Fugate, "If you get there and the Waffle House is closed? That's really bad. That's when you go to work."" Wow! A restaurant that helps saves lives! How can that not get at least 4 stars?!? This WH on the edge of Vestavia has another WH actually just a few blocks away on the Hoover side of the road. I have eaten at both but I prefer this WH. The inside of all WHs look similar. Simple old-time diner look, decorated with old timey photos with booths or you can choose to sit at the "bar" and get an up close in-your-face view of your cook and the kitchen. If you wanted to you could fit most WHs into a large trailer. That's how cramped it could be. Their menu is simple with breakfast, lunch and dinner items. Simple as in a laminated one page double sided menu with pictures. They are usually pretty quick with their food and if you're a very private and discreet person, you won't want to eat here because your server might yell out your order to the short order cook! That's how informal they are at WH. But don't worry, I'm sure what you eat at WH stays at WH. Today the girls got their famous waffles with a side of their famous hash browns. Their chocolate chip waffles don't have the choc chips mixed into the batter. They simply pour the chips onto your waffle when they serve it. Hey isn't that cheating?!? Still tasted great. Sarah noticed that her waffle had the WH logo imprinted on it... cool. Their hashbrowns are always a must-have when we dine here. Simple straightforward shredded potatoes cooked on a hot grill. Matthew ordered their Cheese steak Melt Hashbrown Bowl. It's basically their hashbrowns covered in melted cheese with cheese steak and grilled onions... served in a bowl. If you look at the pic I took, it doesn't look it, but it tasted better than it looks. Remember presentation is not their top priority. We all tasted it and agreed it was good. I felt like a Texas bacon, egg and cheese melt. In other words I was too lazy to order each item separately on a plate. I wanted someone to put it all together for me in between 2 slices of bread then cut into 2 triangles. I enjoyed my sandwich. The fried egg, bacon, and cheese... well it'd be tough to mess that up. We can all agree that WH is not fine dining, but the world will always need WHs. I like to think of them as "good fast food". Consistent, reliable (even in a storm) and always there when you need them. So go eat at Waffle House. They might save your life one day!

Food was great but when you order AND PAY and the items are not there... this is an issue. Can't even call to tell them they messed up.

This creative breakfast entree features their biscuit- split with fried chicken, poached egg and topped with their chicken sausage gravy. Definitely a big breakfast and shareable! Loved the tender biscuit, the crunch of the fried chicken and the savory flavorful chicken sausage gravy! The side of seasoned Moon Dust potatoes were great, too. After being seated, I noticed how colorful and whimsical the decor was. But because it was so crowded, I didn't get a lot of pictures. I ordered the garden veggie scramble with the moon dusted potatoes and a side of beyond sausage. My guy ordered the waffle breakfast. The food was just as delicious as we remembered it to be. The star is always those creamy grits. I'm not sure how they make them, but I wish they would tell me their secret. The biscuits are always light and fluffy, and with the apple butter that comes with it, it's a match made in heaven. Pro Tip: I've ordered food from here courtesy of DoorDash but it's always been a disaster. The order was always missing random items or I received the wrong order. I do not recommend ordering through a 3rd party; go in person if at all possible.

Fast-casual. Order at the front. The line at the front gets very scrunched up on weekend mornings. There was only one ordering kiosk open this past Sunday morning, and their didn't seem to be much fire in getting anybody seated quickly. Coffee is good, scrambled eggs satisfactory and came out hot. I must have my eggs HOT. The biscuits themselves are very good. The right amount of buttery flake and heft, but not too chewy. I ordered the egg plate and put my sausage patties and jam onto the biscuit for a little self-made sammy. The bruleed grapefruit was exactly as described: half a grapefruit with a hard sugar layer on top. It was good, and I love the opportunity to use some hyper-specific specialized silverware. I will now be brainstorming alternative uses for the grapefruit spoon. I worry this place is slightly overpriced and understaffed for weekends, but will definitely come back!

It ended up being perfect--sweet but not overly sweet, and really flavorful. I also signed up for their rewards program and got $5 off my first order, which was a nice bonus. I originally wanted to sit outside since the weather was so nice, but ended up sitting inside. Next time I'll try to get there earlier to grab an outdoor spot. I am not talking croissants on croissants or muffins on muffins, I mean everything on top of each other which also makes me feel like options for people with allergies may be limited. The staff were really kind and the barista suggested 2% or almond milk as alternative options for me which was very kind but just not my favorite. The interior and outdoor seating are very cute. Ultimately, I don't think this is my spot due to dietary restrictions but it might be good spot for you.

Parking often deters me but after attending the Italian Festival earlier that day, we had a craving for pizza. I ordered the combo that includes 2 slices of the day with salad. Since I wasn't overly hungry, I offered him one of my slices and he added another slice to the order. We paid and were given a number to place on our selected table. Jazzy music played in the background while we waited on our order to be brought to the table. The natural lighting, while beautiful, made it a little warm in the building. One of the waitresses propped the door open that leads to the restrooms (which are in the hallway near the elevators) in order for cooler air to make its way in. That wasn't a deal breaker, but do be aware of that on warmer days. Our food came out after a short wait. I kept my 3 cheese slice, and gave him the pepperoni one. The cheeses were very rich and the salad, while simple without the frills, was perfectly sized and drizzled with a balsamic vinaigrette that was just the right amount. While I enjoyed my meal very much and the ambiance, he wasn't overly impressed with his. He didn't want the fresh herbs on his slices and knocked all of them off, lol. He's a simple guy with simple taste. This is definitely a place I will be revisiting with one of my girlfriends and not him next time as he didn't appreciate what ZaZA had to offer. Everyone we encountered was helpful and courteous. Our food, including drinks, was around $28, which was not bad for a cute, eclectic spot downtown. If you haven't been, make sure to try them out soon. Just don't wait as long as I did to visit!
