I really want to like this family owned business but their food has let me down a few times. Every time I've ordered breakfast their Country potatoes they're always half raw, not crispy or seasoned. So now I have to get hash browns because I've givin up on their country potatoes. Last time I had eggs Benedict the hollandaise was way too salty and they used only one thin slice of sandwich deli ham, they're menu says '' piled with ham'' not true! . Not getting these again either. Their coffee is mediocre, small and expensive at 2.95 a cup. Biscuits are good horrible gravy. I asked for extra butter for my biscuits and they brought me margarine. At first the size portion seemed small, I had 2 eggs, 4 sausage and hash browns and a pancake. I was hungry so it seems liked a small portion. I was wrong, it was perfect and the food was great! In our party we also had Strawberry and Chocolate Chip waffles, again they were very good. High quality food at a great price. We'll be back for sure! read more

Wow what an experience. I was not going to post anything about this place until a gave it another try, but since the owner decided to make a presence, I decided I will too. I had never been to this place because it doesn't have great reviews however, today, my colleague ask to meet there for our morning work powwow. First, you are not able to order at your table, that's ridiculous already, how am going to tip more than 15% if I don't know what the service is like? Second, the coffee mugs are so thick that you barely get any coffee, AND the coffee is not hot. So I decided to order the linguica skillet with my eggs over hard. The menu says, onions, potatoes, bell peppers and mushrooms, and of course the linguica. My eggs were over easy, the potatoes tasted like they were fried the day before then refried again today (super greasy), what sucks was that the mushrooms were good but pretty much non existent, the linguica had good flavor but the pieces were so small to really get a good bite. My English muffin toast was cold. I didn't complain, again, I like to give places second chances. The place was not crowded at all, not full at all, there was always empty tables. So the icing on the cake? The owner walk up to us and reminds us that we have been sitting there for 2 hours (cause we were doing some work), and at any place of business usually the table turnover is quick. We acknowledged that we had been there for awhile, but also that we were aware that the tables were not full. Again, he proceeded to make us feel unwelcome. This the only non chain breakfast spot ive had in Salinas. Ive been there on weekdays and weekends and ive never had to wait for a table. Good food and service and a fair price. The only downfall is their coffee isnt great. It tastes like the cheap Farmer Bros. Coffee that needs cream and sugar to kill the subpar taste. I dont expect Peets when i go to a waffle shop but they could step up their game on it a bit. read more

I lived in Salinas my whole life and was always hesitant to come here cause lets be honest the out side looks like shit. Ive seen abandon building with better setups than this and I thought it was going to be empty inside like one. Jokes aside, the place had customers and the waffles are surprisingly good. I had the apple waffle and it was light and fluffy. This is my first time here and the service was fast. We'll see how it goes in the future. My only complaint besides the appearance is the prices are a tad high for some dishes. read more

The place was very welcoming from the vibe it had. I honestly would probably try this place again after I've tried other cafes near by. The food came out great! But the toast I had got was a little off as if it was sort of stale, but that didn't stop me from having a good brunch on a week day. Our waiter seemed to have a good attitude and we were helped put a few times when we had questions of wanted another side order with what we already ordered. STAY AWAY For several years while living in Salinas, my wife and I frequented the Waffle Shop at least once a week for a nice breakfast. To be honest, the food was actually pretty good breakfast food. Omlettes were good, waffles and pancakes were good. THEN, one morning while returning from work around 6AM, I thought I would swing by and pick up some food to go. I forget what my wife got, but I had a denver omlette. I drove the food home and when my wife woke up we began to eat our hot breakfast. She was enjoying her food and I began eating my omlette. I happened to look down after a few delicious bites and noticed something sticking out of my omlette. It looked like maybe a small black twig or some vegetation of some sort. I took my fingers and pulled on it and a FREAKING COCKROACH PULLED OUT OF MY OMLETTE!!! We drove straight to the Waffle Shop and confronted the owner with our discovery. All I wanted was my money back and to go. THE OWNER HAD THE NERVE TO SAY THAT I MUST HAVE "PLANTED" THE CRITTER IN MY OWN FOOD TO "SCAM" HIM! He tried to get me to go in the kitchen but I refused. I repeated over and over that I just wanted my money back. He kept trying to get me to shut up or to give me some other dish. Finally he literally threw $20 at me and I left. We never went there again and we placed a call to the city health inspector. In the interest of full disclosure, this was several years ago. I would have no idea if they have improved since this incident. read more

I was born and raised in Salinas so I came back to town and took my Father out to breakfast. We ordered eggs, bacon and home-style potatoes. The potatoes were okay and how can you mess up eggs. We must of waited 40 minutes after ordering to receive our food than she forgot to bring me my dry toast. So I remind her and she comes back 10 minutes later with my toast slathered in butter. I don't know what everyone is talking about, saying that there's roaches, food's bad, service, horrible etc. I come here at least once a week with family, and it's never a disappointment. Our server, Kristy, is not only attentive, but friendly. Their waffles are delicious, especially their chocolate chip waffles that they make as a specialty for us, even though it's not on the menu. That's true customer service people. I'd recommend this place, it's good, it's affordable, and great waitresses. End of story. read more

Every time my boyfriend and I go here, it's always really good! I recommend sitting on the left side of the restaurant, or if you're on the right side, don't sit by the door, when people come in, and it's cold outside, it's like a constant cold breeze hitting you lol I always get the Linguiça Skillet with a side of sourdough toast, and a scrambled egg on top. Depending on the cook, sometimes the potatoes aren't as done as I like them, but even then it's yummy. I always say I'm going to order something different...but I never do. lol It's that good :) and they give you soooo much of it! I always need a to go box! The servers are also really amazing, they are attentive, kind, and friendly! I really love seeing the "old timers" that come in on a regular basis, it really gives it that home town feel, and I LOVE that! Give this place a try! We've eaten here quite a few times, and have always had great food and friendly/prompt service. The waffles arrive hot, which a rarity. Once my girlfriend wanted a special from the week before which wasn't an item on the menu. We asked for it, and it was no problem to whip it up for us. Wish I had read the reviews before trying out the place. My 3 egg omelet was not only flat and rubbery, it was apparently made using quail eggs. I have never seen such a tiny omelet. I've uploaded a pic of the nasty, black avocado slices. The country gravy tasted like raw flour and the biscuits were quite dense and pasty. The service was ok but not great. I won't be coming to this place again period. It smells musky, the servers were nice, and did their job well enough ..However the food was an atrocity!! Been there twice, gave it a second chance. Anything they cook, from fried potatoes to a skillet breakfast tastes like pure unadulterated rancid grease. The stuff you just can't wash out of your mouth with a sip of that horrible stuff they claim as coffee. Just got out of school and decided to come here for lunch, had quick chitchat with the owner( Hans) sat me down and asked what's the soup of the day. It was vegetable beef, and then waitress came over (Christina) I guess I was in a protein mood because with that; I'd order a cheeseburger, first off the soup had a perfect spice and flavor. The cheeseburger here, you could tell was real meat, unlike the fast food places where are you taste the fat and sometimes the gristle. The only thing I had added to the cheeseburger with some black pepper to it then the lettuce, tomatoes, and onions; no mustard or ketchup. I left nothing behind, it was a perfect size meal, no doubt, that's why I'll always will keep coming back for the great food and awesome service. read more

Two stars are for the waiters and food! Waffles were great and servers very nice. Tables were clean. Ambiance- Cannot get passed the lady screaming and yelling in the kitchen (she wasn't angry just having a good ol time with her co-workers). Apparently they can't hear themselves over the appliances in the kitchen and have to yell at each other and we the customers have to hear it. This is probably one of the worst breakfast places we have ever been to. The service was exceptionally slow. The breakfast potatoes were so foul as to be inedible which is especially tragic as they are my favorite breakfast item. The regular waffle was mediocre and my daughter's peanut butter banana waffle literally had chunks of peanut butter on top of it. The crayons were so cheap and waxy they wouldn't draw on the paper (a serious problem with 3 kids). The coffee was bitter. The other reviews were good and we were excited to try a new place. A kids plain hamburger $8.99, to add cheese add $1.00 extra, really $10 bucks for a kids cheeseburger. Get outta here!
