Tried this place for brunch since we were in the area, and it did not disappoint. We were added to the wait list, and were called about two minutes after. It is spacious with plenty of seating. I tried their strawberry almond waffle which was delicious! We also tried their eggs with chorizo with a side of country potatoes, which my boyfriend loved, but I was personally not a fan of. There were several people going around filling up waters and coffee and asking if everything was okay apart from our server but she checked on us a few times as well. If you're looking for a good breakfast place in Salinas, the Waffle Shop is a safe bet. It's nothing fancy, but the food is usually solid. We ordered a veggie omelette and a pumpkin waffle (Because who doesn't love a pumpkin baked Treat?) The omelette was a solid size, and packed with veggies. It was easily split by two of us and included biscuits or toast and another side, which we selected as hash browns. The pumpkin waffle was a bit pricey for what it was but it was an up charge item since it was seasonal. It was good, but the pumpkin flavor didn't come Through as much as I'd hoped. Taking away 1 star mainly due to service. My husband was served black coffee without any cream and by the time they came back to our table it was Cold. Was our 2nd or 3rd time eating here and it never disappoints the service is fast and friendly, we have 2 boys that have lots of energy and the servers are always patient and friendly with them! This place has history and it shows it's like your typical old family dinner. The food was delicious my husband loved his biscuits and gravy and the hash browns were so good both my kids ate all of it and they are picky, pancakes were delicious and fluffy! A pretty busy family owned business open for breakfast and lunch 9-3. Breakfast for 6 was served quickly with a little wait on getting seated. Social distancing and masks in force as well as sanitizing sin between customers. We enjoyed our pancake/ waffle combo meals. I thought the blueberry pie filling was over the top in sweetness and thought it would be cooked in the batter versus a placed on top. A note to self next time we visit. The owner came by to check on everyone he was very nice and filled our coffees. Properly buttered toast. Biscuits were good, gravy not so much, boring, bland out of a can and meatless. Won't get the gravy again. Like I said before I can't give anything higher than 3 stars for places that don't make their own gravy. Country potatoes could have been more crispy. Second visit I had the eggs Benedict. They were poached just right but the hollandaise sauce was really salty (and I like salt). I couldn't find the '' pile'' of ham as listed on the menu. Just a couple of slices of deli ham. I won't get these again. My husband had the all meat omelet which he enjoyed. He said it was pretty good. Expensive mediocre coffee at 2.95. I really wanted to like this place but the French toast, the chicken sandwich, country style potatoes, the fries we had even the coffee was tasteless. When I requested the server to make a new pot she kindly declined and said that was all they had. The first sip of coffee should have been my cue to get up and leave. If I can help the next person out who is contemplating on eating here at this over priced restaurant here is my review. My husband and I decided after seeing the "KIDS EAT FREE" sign that we could get a deal as advertised, but caution to the small print that some restrictions apply, which is an understatement. KIDS DON'T EAT FREE AT ALL! After unloading all three of our children and completing our order, we were first disappointed by the watered down coffee we ordered for $3.00. Luckily we were able to cancel it but as we proceeded to order two waffle combo plates, each $12 and a side of country potatoes for $5.00, we were embarrassed to be addressed out of nowhere by what seemed to be the manager, rather than our waitress, that our 1 and 2 year old children would not be able to get the free breakfast because we needed to order a beverage. So I proceeded to look for the least priced beverage but was astonished when I realized all beverages were the same price, $3.00, which is the same price of a kids meal. I asked for whole milk given the $3.00 charge and was told that they only had 2%! For $3.00? I explained to the owner we were trying to get a good price given our recent termination of lease for rent increase and leaving us in a shelter but that that was fine we would just take the beverage then. Rudely he asked if we wanted to see the total price of everything before we ordered to ensure we could afford it. Of course given his rude approach I told him to cancel the order and we walked out. Despite the owners rude nature I wanted to make clear to those that children are definitely not at all free. This is an advertisement scheme. I went here for the first time today, not really a go out to eat for breakfast type of person but I'm glad we finally stopped by this place ! There's plenty of parking and easy to spot on the corner of the street. We walked in and were immediately seated, a table for 2. We quickly received our waters to start off with and ordered a meat lover's omelette & a waffle combination plate We received great service by our waitress, received food in a timely manner, and enjoyed our breakfast in a nice quiet environment. My omelette was a little cooked over my liking but overall, waffles, hash browns, sausage links, OJ were great. My favorite part was that the owner (to my assumption) walked out to ask tables how everyone was doing and we went ahead and told him we have a great first time there. This is a hole in the wall for seniors to get together and chat, a family restaurant to bring your kids after church, a place to get breakfast and lunch with absolutely nothing fancy and without the commercialism of chain restaurants. When you walk in make sure to write your name and party on the clipboard by the register and they will seat you. Service is prompt, the portions are great, seriously the pancakes are huge. Wow what an experience. I was not going to post anything about this place until a gave it another try, but since the owner decided to make a presence, I decided I will too. I had never been to this place because it doesn't have great reviews however, today, my colleague ask to meet there for our morning work powwow. First, you are not able to order at your table, that's ridiculous already, how am going to tip more than 15% if I don't know what the service is like? Second, the coffee mugs are so thick that you barely get any coffee, AND the coffee is not hot. So I decided to order the linguica skillet with my eggs over hard. The menu says, onions, potatoes, bell peppers and mushrooms, and of course the linguica. My eggs were over easy, the potatoes tasted like they were fried the day before then refried again today (super greasy), what sucks was that the mushrooms were good but pretty much non existent, the linguica had good flavor but the pieces were so small to really get a good bite. My English muffin toast was cold. I didn't complain, again, I like to give places second chances. The place was not crowded at all, not full at all, there was always empty tables. So the icing on the cake? The owner walk up to us and reminds us that we have been sitting there for 2 hours (cause we were doing some work), and at any place of business usually the table turnover is quick. We acknowledged that we had been there for awhile, but also that we were aware that the tables were not full. Again, he proceeded to make us feel unwelcome.
