I called before my oil change light came on and Tony told me to wait until it started lighting up. I was immediately impressed because he could've made money off me but told me to wait. A few months later, the light came on and I made an appointment. It's difficult to get an appointment quickly but I didn't need one right away so it worked out. I think he was scheduling a couple weeks out. The day of, I dropped my car off around 9am and came to pick it up around 4pm. Plan to leave your car as there isn't really a waiting area. If you walk about 10-15min you can find a coffee shop. It's also on a bus line if you want to take transit somewhere. Tony is very friendly. The oil change was reasonably priced at $88 before taxes. It was a great experience.

You "dismissed" many long-time customers who apparently had older Volvos. Not even a group email letting them know ahead of time and a simple "thank you" for bringing your car to Larson's. Ultimately, we had a custom camshaft and lifters made and installed in what seems like no time at all, and the results are extraordinary. More recently, I ran into problems restoring a beloved classic pickup truck that's been in my family since I was a kid. David and Jim determined that somebody had previously sold me the wrong clutch, and Jim even went so far as to pick up the correct parts from the local dealer on his way to work the next morning. The day after that, I had the truck back on the road, and drove it to Leavenworth and back during the 2019 "snowpocalypse" with no problems at all. Although I'm the type of person who mostly works on their own cars, Pittman has become my go-to for any job I can't (or don't have time) to do myself. Ok- it's certainly his choice to not work on certain cars because of his ability, but be aware that his shop doesn't work on whatever he deems as "old". When electric and newer cars that require computers to diagnose and repair become the norm, places like Tony's will be considered "old" and fall out of need.

I used to have a *great* mechanic up on Aurora, a little hungarian guy named Ors Gyeny (I just loved saying his name), but he rather inconsiderately died of a heart attack playing soccer one day, and left me (and a lot of other VW owners) bereft. I went to a shop over by U. Village for a while, attached to a gas station, because a friend worked there. But after a while, I wasn't feeling the love. The work was fine, but the price and the service weren't feeling so friendly. I guess he was more of an acquaintance after all. I tried Wagenschmitt a few times, and while his work and prices were good, he always seemed to act like my ugly little beater was unworthy of his time, and I didn't care for the attitude. So I looked up VW service on the Car Talk website (Click and Clack would never steer me wrong!) and found Louis Foreign Auto Repair. I was desperate, because my 82 VW diesel Rabbit, normally 42+ MPG city, had suddenly started dumping over half of its fuel ration on the ground. My amateur diagnosis, very reluctantly, was the injector pump. I called up Dan (owner) and asked how he felt about working on VW diesel Rabbits. "My favorite car!" he said, telling me (convincingly) that he used to own one. The injector pump needed replacing all right. Expensive part ($500-700) , not really serviceable; you take out the old one and put in another. My budget really couldn't quite handle the hit for the original estimate, but I found a non-local supplier that sold warranted rebuilds for about $400 with exchange. I asked Dan if I could supply the part, and showing remarkable flexibility for a first-time customer like me, he said he would, but couldn't guarantee the part since he was not familiar with the source. Only fair, I thought. I ordered the part and had it shipped to his shop. He fixed it, and took care of some other things that needed attention along the way. The repair bill came in at something like $200 less than I'd budgeted for after scrimping and scraping. The pump is working great, the MPG is better than it was, and when I need work on my old diesel Rabbit, I go see Dan. The shop is right across from the Roosevelt/Ravenna Safeway. A little run-down looking on the outside, small, but clean and well-organized on the inside, and after multiple visits for other minor problems (25 year old car!) I always walk away feeling like I got good work at a good price. I'm feeling the love again, and giving some back here!
