2003 Honda Civic Had the check engine light on and the car was accelerating weirdly, so I had to take it to the shop. Turns out, my cam angle sensor was the issue. Mike was transparent and knew what the issue was and told me the cost for the part and how long the labor would take. An honest and fair priced mechanic! My various family members have come to Mike for car repairs of different makes and models for the past 9+ years and he's always been fair and honest. He's worked on our Nissan, Jeep, Honda, Ford and Subaru with good results. The main thing I respect is he never charges you or tries to fix something that doesn't need to be fixed. He's honest! I was referred here by my favorite mechanic (f&f auto) cause he was way overbooked. Japan Auto was also fairly booked, but as my truck wouldn't start and I had to have it towed somewhere, he agreed to try and take a look. He got to it the next business day (sooner than anticipated), diagnosed and fixed the problem for well under $100, so I had him throw a new battery in as well (I was overdue), which he gave me a good price on as well. Honest, fast and competent ... I'll be a repeat customer here now with my 4runner (and let f&f keep working on our old mustang, which is what they enjoy more anyway :)). read more

Okay, so I don't know jack about cars which is why I take them to a mechanic or someone who knows about cars when I need something done... Looking for somewhere in my neighborhood, I went here based on the Yelp reviews. I took my car in to get it checked over to make sure it was safe and in good service and the one thing I specifically asked them to check was the brakes. He checked it out, charged me over $200 because he said my battery needed replacing (my boyfriend was not happy later since he'd put in a battery recently and it was the one thing he said he knew was fine...) Two days later I'm driving down a big hill near Northgate and the brakes fail - completely stop working. When I went back to the (completely unconcerned) mechanic he said that he just checks the discs and not the brake lines which had broken apparently. I have no idea whether this is accurate and how garages usually check brakes but I definitely won't be going back there. read more

May 3, 2019: Called for a 90K miles service for a Toyota Corolla and the owner answered telling that he had to look at my car's manual to determine what is needed to provide me an estimated cost. Bad sign; an experienced mechanic should know what's needed and the estimated cost. So I drove there and saw the owner who was working on a car and training his older buddy. I said hello and told him I was the guy who just called for the 90K miles service. He curtly replied telling me that he's busy and cannot look at my car!!! WTF!!! Guys, don't waste your time with time joint. It has a temporary sign - Japan Auto Service; another bad sign!!! Really, don't waste your time and certainly don't trust this mechanic!!! read more
