Prior to setting up his own business, he worked in a machine shop that specialized in rebuilding air-cooled VW engines. In short, he knows these engines inside and out. Aside from his mechanical prowess, he is also an extremely conscientious, and totally trustworthy guy. He'll tell you, for example, if you really need to jump on a fix or can safely put it off for awhile. He'll also try to find alternative solutions that will save you money, if money is a concern. Some of the other things I've learned about Mike over the years: he has an MA in Comparative Literature, he's an accomplished pianist (maybe one reason you can almost always hear classical music when you visit his shop), and he's an avid hiker and camper.

A few months later, the light came on and I made an appointment. It's difficult to get an appointment quickly but I didn't need one right away so it worked out. I think he was scheduling a couple weeks out. The day of, I dropped my car off around 9am and came to pick it up around 4pm. Plan to leave your car as there isn't really a waiting area. If you walk about 10-15min you can find a coffee shop. It's also on a bus line if you want to take transit somewhere. Tony is very friendly. The oil change was reasonably priced at $88 before taxes.
