Great place to get your dog groomed - kind caring staff and owner - they do a nice job

There's been a few comments posted regarding this story, so I wanted to give the firsthand account of what happened. Really appreciate all the support received - but in the spirit of maintaining the integrity of Yelp reviews, there's no need to post individual reviews based on this one, unless something similar happened to you :) I made an appointment with Wagger's to have my Miniature Schnauzer puppy groomed for the first time on 6/29/2014. First off, they either failed to follow my instructions or lost the instructions card because they gave him an equal length buzz-cut. But I liked the business up until this point, so I went ahead and booked a second appointment. When I got home, I noticed that the sclera of his eyes were red. I brought him back to Wagger's and asked what might have happened. The owner became immediately defensive and said that there is no way anything they did while grooming him caused the injury. I told her that I pay very close attention to his eyes because he receives daily eye drops; and I didn't expect her to take full responsibility or provide any compensation - I just wanted to know what to relay to my vet. I offered for her to come along with me for the exam. She refused and I could only go to a vet of her choice - but I called my own vet anyway for an emergency exam. The vet's conclusion was that my puppy was severely strangled, which resulted in rupturing of the capillaries in his eyes. She has seen this before due rough handling during grooming, but this was the worst case she has seen. There was bruising around his neck and a cut on his paw. She prescribed meds and advised to return if his condition worsened. What started out as a small bloody patch (about the size of half a sunflower seed) became a completely bloody eye with no whites present because the blood vessels did not stop bleeding overnight - this was accompanied by severe diarrhea because of stress. He is currently still undergoing treatment and monitoring. The vet is concerned about excessive fluid build-up as a result of the strangulation - and he may lose partial vision due to nerve damage. The vet was so upset that she called Wagger's to address the incident. Wagger's has tried to reimburse me for the initial vet visit but is unwilling to assist in additional exams and expenses for my puppy's recovery. She said that he had a pre-existing eye condition... My puppy has seen an Opthamologist regarding corneal edema, an aesthetic abnormality. Sorry Wagger's, but strangulation is NOT a pre-existing condition. I used to visit Wagger's regularly to buy food and supplies for my puppy because they provided great service up until this point. I felt it necessary to post my story to the pet community not out of financial retribution, but because the owner acted so carelessly and with such disregard for my pet's well-being - then wouldn't even own up to correcting the issue. read more

Never thought to write in on Yelp- but I should have when it happened. About 6 months ago, I brought my boss' dog here to be groomed. When I picked her up, she looked just fine from far away and even close up. When we got home all the way in Rocklin, I noticed blood all over my passenger seat. She had tracked blood on the seats as well as the floor of my car. Inspecting her tiny body more, she had two cuts on her front paws and a more severe cut behind her ear. I let my boss know immediately and she had the issue taken up with the owner of this pet spa and a vet. After seeing the story of the mini Schnauzer all over the internet, including social media, I realize that this is not an isolated event. (I'm so sorry that this happened to your baby, by the way, Tammy L.) I do not work for that boss anymore, but I will contact her to find out the outcome of the event. read more

Maybe third times a charm, but i'm not willing to try. I stopped in twice for the self serve grooming service and didn't make it past the front desk. Both times I wasn't greeted upon entering and decided once I spoke to the lady behind the counter that I would take my business elsewhere. She was not friendly or helpful. I've spoke to 2 other friends who also said they had the same experience going to wagger. I was pretty bummed since I live in Natomas and their location is so convenient! :-( Since then I've fallen in love with Splash Hound in West Sac. I'll drive a few extra miles for fab customer service! And I think theyre a few bucks cheaper! read more

I recently found this local small business near my home. I walked in and felt comfortable right away. The owner took her time to walk around with me and show me healthy treats that would be good for my furchild! It was my first time in, and the customer service was great! I have recently seen posts on Facebook, yelp, and Craigslist that are highly negative. Mostly the posts are from friends of someone who had a terrible experience and are helping trash a business. I always believe there are two sides to every story. As a UC Davis graduate, and aspiring journalist, I hope to always ask questions and dig deeper, rather than just believe something I hear or read. I called the business, and told the owner what I was reading, and just explained I am a Natomas local, who tries to support small business owners whenever I can, and I just wanted to see if she had anything to say about this. From her explanation this seems to be a highly unfortunate incident. The 4 month old puppy was groomed, all dogs are tethered to the groom table for safety. The dog did not enjoy the grooming, to say the least, and flailed around, but calmed down to finish the groom. The dog owner took pet to own vet, which came up with the strangulation verdict. The business owner was willing to pay that bill, and also wanted to have dog owner go to their vet for a second opinion. The dog owner was unwilling to do so. The business owner feels so bad for anything that has happened and is going through business insurance to take care of any payments or bills, to try to resolve the situation. Here's the thing I get from that: the business owner is willing to do this on her own accord, she knows the unfortunate incident did happen. If she was in denial or unwilling to help, she could wait for it to go to small claims or litigation. There was only one opinion from one vet. I love my animal furchild more than anything in the entire world. I understand being protective over them also. The business owner cannot respond publicly bc of the insurance situation. She did not bash the dog owner in any way, only said the dog owner is not happy with the timeliness of the insurance claim. This seems to me, to be a possible reason why all of the negative yelps have been in the past 24hrs. Also notice the Craigslist ad was posted 5 days ago, so July 3rd, right before the 4th of July holiday. Also if this happened in April, why tell story now? I have only been to this business a few times, I have always had good experiences here. I was not asked to speak up, I'm doing it bc I have worked for a small business in Natomas for 5 years, and my boyfriend owns a small business in Natomas, it's difficult. The owner did not say anything about the dog owner, besides she was surprised bc the customer has frequented, and is themselves a small business owner( declined to name). Small local businesses work very hard to build a business reputation. Incidents happen, sometimes very unfortunate ones. To me it is how situations are taken care of. One negative occurrence can impact years of hard work. I hope everyone is their own judge of this situation. read more

WAGGERS - Weasel & D - Pet Groomers Near Me - Sacramento, California

I've been coming here for years now, While I've only had a few dogs groomed here in the seven or so years I've been coming, I have extensive experience with nail trims. I have been bringing the same two dogs here, both Chihuahuas that screech and nip and potty when getting their nails trimmed for numerous years now. I can't say that they are super thrilled when we walk through the door because my dogs are pains in the backside, however, they are always gracious and greet us with a smile even if you can see the fear in their eyes ha ha! Chandra is our usual nail trimmer, I think she has grown somewhat accustom to the fact that my Chihuahuas are the most difficult clients they currently have. I know this, because the owner told me we are the number one for bad behavior. Again, they understand they are senior rescue Chihuahuas and clearly don't like their nails trimmed. We've never been turned away, and they always trim the nails down very short which seems like a miracle to me. Definitely 5 stars. read more

I have a older dog. Wagner's stated he was too matted to give him a good cut. So they cut all of his hair off. They could have given him a short Lamb cut but they just whacked off all of his hair. I am so disappointed in their service. They want to go home so they did a very poor job. I will never go there again read more

It shocks me to see that many people have shared similar experiences as the one I've had with Waggers. I have a Bichon Maltese puppy named Lou that I recently stopped taking to Waggers. Multiple times that I took him to get groomed they did a horrible job! So bad that I felt it was cruel and embarrassing. He is already very small, and even with specific instructions I seemed to be getting the same results of exactly what I didn't want. They would buzz cut his hair so short that his pink skin is all you would see and this was throughout his whole body. On top of the repeating ugly grooming job the attitude I received the last time I took him is what made me decide to start looking for a new groomer. I'm glad I went with my gut now due to recent events! I do NOT recommend this grooming salon! read more

I have taken my Maltese to Waggers for a few years now and I'm super happy with them. They make my dog, Milo, look better than any groomer I've ever taken him to. In fact, I recommended Wagger's to my sister who has since become a faithful customer. While no groomer is perfect - and I don't want to downplay the alleged incident - I have never had any issues. I've taken Milo to Waggers since 2009 and in all that time, I've had maybe three small nicks on his face, which is really good. I've taken him to other groomers and they clip his nails too short (causing bleeding), gave him ear infections, clipped his face, etc. And I'm not going to cheap places either - they're all highly rated groomers. I like my dog really short, so things happen. All in all, it makes me pretty mad that all these people are posting on a craigslist ad. Tammy - I feel really bad for you and I hope your dog gets better. I'm sure you experienced an anomaly. They're usually really good. Personally, I would continue to use Waggers if I didn't just move to Folsom. read more

About two months ago i brought my hyper Pekignese Pickles in and Chandra gave him such a cute cut,he tends to be super sweet but kind of annoying because he loves to lick and move his head the whole time.I used to take him to petco because a friend worked there but this place is a gem,he was in and out in less than two hours and we left with him so happy and clean.Dont always believe what you read this is a great business and i will continue to bring him in without a worry! read more

I had to take our Boxer, Carmello, to get a bath... and he HATES water!! I've never attempted this in public and was really nervous how this would work?! He runs and hides when I fill up his water bowl (big baby). The people at Wagger were amazing!! They showed me around and how to use everything! Then they let me be and checked in on me later! Perfect! Friendly and helpful, what more can you ask for! And as for Carmello, he survived and even enjoyed the towelling off process! We will definitely be back!! read more

I've been spoiled by really great groomers in the Bay Area, so moving to Sacramento, I was a bit worried about who was going to take care of Bradley, my handsome Maltese. Fortunately, I found Wagger's located only a few miles away from my house. The haircut itself was decent. I didn't really like it THAT much, but at least he looked clean? I was charged $47 for his haircut. After I got him, I noticed a scrape on the top of his nose... as if maybe they buzzed-cut a little too close. :( It's still really raw and red today. I feel bad for him because he's constantly licking his nose probably because it's irritated. What I did like about Wagger's is that they gave Bradley a cute handkerchief to wear around his neck when I picked him up. I would probably come back if I didn't have time to bring him back to the Bay Area for a grooming, but I'm a little apprehensive because of the cut on his nose. read more

I'm completely shocked that I haven't reviewed this place yet. I even tried to look for this review in my collection! Well, now I'll remedy this... First of all, if you think spending more than x amount of dollars on food for your pet is out of the question, then do skip this place. Everything they sell is healthy and holistic AND yes, very pricey. However, if you're like me and would rather eat McD's while your pets gets whole beef livers, beets, duck eggs, quail eggs, you name it, then drop by Wagger's and check them out. This is where I go to get dog/cat food, treats, and sometimes, the nth collar that the doggy doesn't need but I GOTTA have because it looks cute. I always feel welcome here and the owners are extremely nice and always helpful. The two goldens they have at the store are just darling too. Without a Pet Food Express close by, I am deeply grateful for places like Wagger's. They're an honest business that cares. Tip: they have a self-wash stations here for $15 per use. They provide shampoos (all natural!) and raised tubs for you to wash your dog. You'll be backache-free afterwards, and your dog will come out smelling great! read more

After combing through two different PetSmart locations to find a nice, warm, non tacky looking jacket for my dog to go to the snow in, I was just about to give up. Then on my way home from work, I looked over and noticed a dog boutique and made a quick turn in. The little shop doesn't have a huge selection of items for your dog but what they did have was fabulous. I found the cutest little fleece lined jacket for my dog that was actually cheaper then the ugly, left over, winter jackets that were hanging on the empty shelves at PetSmart. Don't get me wrong, I still love PetSmart but I am very happy to know that I have other options out there to choose from when it comes to accessorizing my dog. The woman who I'm assuming owns the place, was extremely friendly from the moment I entered the store right to the moment I walked out. She helped me find my dogs size and helped me look for a traveler water dish for my dog. It looked like they have some sort of spa and grooming area in the back which I haven't investigated yet. If their prices can beat PetSmart then I will be returning more often. read more

Owner is very attentive and personable! She gave me excellent recommendations for my puppy and his growing sensitivities. I have a adorable English bulldog about four months old and she recommended multiple items. She suggested orijen, and the raw food diet. I prefer kibbles because the Raw food I'm Not sure if I would handle it so well. I tried both and my puppy loves it! The groomed portion I never saw or have used that service but I am in full support for the local pet store owner! Thank you so much and I'll be back for more! Also. Her puppy toys and other supplies are very inexpensive and comparably the same or maybe even a little less expensive than the big chain pet stores! read more

I've been taking my two dogs to Waggers for 4 years. I have since moved out of town, but I still drive 45 minutes oneway to get my dogs groomed there. I have had a lot of bad experiences with other groomers and think that it's worth it to drive 45 minutes to feel good about who I'm leaving my dogs with. The staff is great, the prices are reasonable, they listen to what you want, and they are consistent. I love Waggers!!! read more

I must say, I have taken my dogs here a couple of times and the first time I went in everyone was so friendly and seemed like really wanted to help. Then the second time I went in, it was like I was inconveniencing them. And $70 for 2 dogs for a bath and clipped nails.. Maybe its just me but compared to other places it sure does seem like a lot. Please if I'm wrong tell me. From what I understand of other yelpers is that the prices of their food and accessories is good, so maybe thats how they make up for it.. read more

I never really thought that washing your dog could be so confusing. Where should I wash him? Do I use shampoo? Is Pantene ok? Luckliy, Wagger just opened in my neighborhood and I was saved. The staff was so friendly and knowledgeable. The main thing there is the self-service bathing of your pet in individual rooms. They provide everything you need. Towels, brushes, shampoo... no Pantene by the way. When you are done, they will clean up for you too. Of course if you don't want to wash your dog yourself they can do it for you at an additional cost. Wagger also offers the "Spa" treatments by pet stylists. Maybe a little too much for my mut, but I can see people poofing up their poodles if needed. Wagger also offers an abundance of organic treats and toys. Even though Buster wasn't all that thrilled about getting a bath period, I'm sure it was better that we came to Wagger anyway. read more

When I moved to Sacramento from Los Angeles, one of my concerns was finding a pet boutique near by that carried Orijen. Since it's a brand of dog food that's not found in the widely popular Petsmart or Petco, I was jumping off the walls when I discovered Wagger. Staff are wonderful and truly care about our pets. I LOVE Wagger!! I have been taking my precious dog here since I got her over two years ago. My dog is ONLY happy when she gets groomed at Wagger. She was groomed once at a doggy spa in San Diego because we were gone so long and she came back to Wagger troubled and upset and Wagger staff noticed, called me, talked to me about ways to get her back to the pup they've known and she did! I won't take my doggy anywhere else, she means too much to me. :) The staff really know their stuff about foods, treats, etc. If you love your dog and want the best grooming and advice - this is the place! Oh and I love that they seem to be able to accommodate me when I wait until the last minute to schedule my dog's grooming appointment - they always find a way to get me in!! LOVE IT! read more

The grooming here is EXCELLENT! I was worried at first after a horrible petsmart experience. We have gone to Tiffany twice now and she is great! She listened to my requests on his haircut and exceeded my expectations. The first time he was nervous to go and today he went without almost any hesitation! She definitely has my loyalty. read more

I took my beloved dog, a Pom, here to be groomed for the first time. I showed the groomer a picture of how I wanted him groomed. I dropped him off at 1pm and they were finished at 2:30 pm. My Pom looked marvelous and he didn't seem fazed. I know at the super pet box stores, I would drop him off at 1pm and they would call me about 4:30pm or later. Most times I would contact them and inquire when they would be finished. And when I picked him up he would be very agitated. The groomers at Wagger's were real sweet to him. Our visit was positive and quick. I highly recommend this place if you adore your pets. read more

Services are pricey, but they treat your dog well. I had an appointment here and when I dropped off my dog, they took him in right away. My dog's hair had some matting, and they called me to notify me of the situation before they just went ahead and shaved him down. They also called me as soon as they were done with him. When I went to pick him up, he was playing with another dog in their store front. I didn't notice any kennels there, so at least he wasn't just locked up to wait his turn. read more

I didn't know where to take my dog after a horrible experience down the street at another grooming salon. A friend recommended Waggers and ever since I've been there. Granted, the grooming prices are a little bit more than other places, but at least your dog will have a customized fur cut...not the typical breed "bowl cut" other places provide. The staff are great and very attentive. They are detail oriented and deliver what they promise. You and your pooch will not regret any bit of it. My only advice is to make sure you book your appointments ahead of time. They fill up pretty fast! read more

My first time experience with Wagger's was awesome!! Christina was the groomer for Peanut and Lola. Great cut, very professional and accurate time on completion. The staff I interacted with from start to finish were professional, pleasant and felt completely comfortable with my two babies in their hands. Upon picking up my babies, they both had little pink bandanas around their necks!... ADORABLE!! The extra touch was nice to see and greatly appreciated! I highly recommend you give them a chance. I was a loyal customer to the Petsmart grooming facility, however, their focus and direction for their grooming department is not cohesive in providing excellent customer service. read more

I have been taking my little Yorkie here for grooming for the past 3 plus years. They treat him with care and do a great job. Just like he was their own pet. Also I purchase all my pet food and treats from Waggers since the owner only buys USA products safe for pets!! This is the only groomer that can ease my Doberman enough to clip her nails. Every other groomer we tried wanted to rush through trimming her nails and she got very anxious. The staff at Waggers are wonderful and treat both of my dogs as if they were their own. The curbside pick up is a plus! read more

My fussy 5 month old labradoodle puppy was so turned off by her kibble, no matter what I bought for her, that she literally ran away and hid when I filled her bowl. She was loosing weight, and our vet was no help. So I called Dierdre (sp?) at Waggers and she invited me in. I brought Frankie with me and we spend a good 10 or 15 minutes figuring out what might be going on. I sure am grateful! I brought home some samples and some dehydrated patties. Frankie is now so excited for her food that she follows me around while I fill her bowl. Ok, yeah, she's spoiled, but there are limits to how long you can let your dog go on a hunger strike. My dog's both have food allergies so I'm super happy to have WAGGER'S nearby carrying specialty food, I've been getting my dog food here for almost a year now. I do not have enough words to express how happy I am that I found Waggers. I have a 3 year old rescue chihuahua who is not the nicest pup around other humans. He also suffers from bad allergies which causes him to have hot spots and bitting episodes on his feet. All of this leads to trimming nails becoming a NIGHTMARE. The vet freaks him out enough and needed to find a warm environment where he would be calm and WAGGERS is the place! The woman who took my appointment was very nice, got me checked in, and listened to my story and mentioned she would have two people on staff just incase. Arrived for my appointment, they took Jax back right away and got us all checked in. As expected, Jax was giving Tiffany a hard time but her patience and willingness to work with me and my dog was a blessing. THANK YOU TIFFANY!! Everyone there was so nice and understanding and helpful. Such a great first experience. I got an recommendation to Waggers from one of my Daughter's neighbor and it's the best decision I've ever made. The staff is friendly and professional my pet dog loves going to get groomed the staff takes good care of their customers pets. Customers can get good advice on food choices for their pets the merchandise is great quality overall Waggers is a great place to have your pet dog groomed I highly recommend it. read more

The items being sold are great. They have a lot of treats that my highly-allergic dog can eat. The down side is that after having my dog groomed there for a while, it seemed one visit traumatized him. I no longer have him groomed there because he seems to panic uncharacteristically when we visit. read more
