I lost much of my vision in one eye because Dr. Wagner does not dilate eyes to check for issues. For two years I described new vision problems I was having to Dr Wagner. He said it didn't sound like anything he was familiar with. I also told him that another optometrist saw swelling in the back of one eye after she dilated it. He said he didn't see swelling or anything else wrong. He never dilated my eyes to look. He said it wasn't necessary because he uses a machine to take a picture, without dilation. Three eye surgeries later, my vision is still greatly reduced. An Opthomologist immediately saw that I had a torn retina and performed emergency surgery to prevent blindness (after she dilated my eyes to look.). I am leaving this review in hopes of saving others from having severe vision loss. read more

Before coming to Wagner Eye Care (WEC), I was with one of those big companies you see at the malls and while they've always worked out fine, I decided to go see a different optometrist once I moved out to the east valley. I've been a patient of both Dr. Reid and Dr. Wagner since 2013 and boy are things great! Here at WEC, they offer the Optomap digital retinal imaging. It costs $31 but it's better than walking around bright ass Arizona with dilated pupils. Ain't enough polarized sunglasses to save your eyes from the searing pain that is Arizona. It looks pretty cool when they pull your images up on the computer. Your eyeballs looks like space and your eyelashes looks amazing. If only mascara worked the same. Anywho! Dr. Reid and Dr. Wagner are great, patient, and charismatic. I learned that a patient once fainted from a panic attack at getting the numbing eyedrops for the glaucoma test placed in her eyes. Whoa! Minus the fact that they've created two, possibly three, separate files for me, things have gone smoothly here! Even when I ask for my prescription to shop around for cheaper glasses and contacts, they never try to push a sale on me. The place is nice and clean and the workers are great. And when you're battling it out with the Optomap machine, trying to get the blue circle green, they never rush you or smash your face into the contraption because you're taking too long or blinking every time they try to snap a picture. They're open Saturdays! This is huge for me cause I hate running down to the optometrist after work, especially when you're making this huge decision of choosing a new pair of glasses (I'm a fickle one). I came from another optometrist and they gladly took my prescription, gave me a rundown on what I was covered for and let me pick a pair. Their selection wasn't exceptionally large, but there were definitely a lot of trendy glasses to choose from. The lady who helped me out, though new, was very knowledgeable on the special discounts my provider had and was very willing to give opinions (without being pushy) on the different frames I tried on. She even patiently walked me through all the different options of the different types of transition lenses (god, I was so confused, given that I'm not a morning person, and it was about 9.30AM at the time) and I made it out a-okay! I'm still waiting on my new glasses but did call in to place an order of contacts - very convenient, pay at pick-up (for the contacts, that is), and was ready in 2 days! Wonderful staff here who took great care of me and got me in very fast when my eye was scratched pretty bad (it ended up being 4 total visits). Due to Covid-19 their procedures gas changes which limited the amount of people they can get in and one time. I was so desperate to find an eye doctor that could get me in same day due to an injury and the front office listened to me explain before denying me a same day appointment and went and asked the doctor and turns out they do me in 45 minutes later. "Eye" spy a rip off! Quite the experience at Wagner Eye Care. Three (3) visits in all - none of them good. First visit was for eye exam and contact lense fitting. Pricy! A "premium" fitting was apparently necessary to give me a pair of stigmatism contact lenses to try. $85 charge. Not to mention, got suckered into a $31 charge for a laser retina scan. Yes, you can skip the eye dialation, but after doing it - I realized it saves the Dr. work. Takes pictures of your eyes which he looks at vs. sitting there and actually looking at your eye. So, did some research - turns out laser retina scans can detect some retinal abnormalities, but there are limitations such as problems on outside edges of retinas where all the serious problems usually happen. Look it up yourself ( mayoclinic.org/healthy-l...). Show back up after wearing these painful lenses for 2 weeks as instructed. Talking with Dr. Wagner he is asking me questions which made NO sense about my medical history. As a new patient, I look at the folder he is flipping through, and say - that file is pretty thick ( about 2 inches of paper) - I don't believe you are looking at my file. Turns out his office mixed my information in a file with someone else. No apology, nothing.. So - he then tells me that I cannot wear stigmatism lenses, and basically gives me new lenses and says try these and call us back. No follow-up visit and he changed lense types. Weird thing is they give you lense price sheets. The stigmatism lenses ("premium" were cheaper than then the other ones). Kinda "eyronic", right??My third visit was to pick up my glasses prescription. Mind you, I called ahead to request it. Lady said they could mail it or I could come in, and they would have it ready for pick up. I saved them postage, and came in 2 days later. My bad - the prescription WAS NOT ready, and had to stand around waiting for 15 minutes for them to find the file and write it. The good? Nice decor, but not that nice considering his prices. Not to mention, floors were dirty. Don't think they were swept from my first visit to my second visit, two weeks later...while sitting in the room waiting for the Dr. I could swear it was the exact same piece of lint unmoved. Going back to Swagel Wooten. The "independent" guy Dr. Wagner is overpriced in comparison to others I have gone to. I have seen enough here! read more

I meant to write this a few months ago.... Been going here since I was needing glasses as a child and continued to see Dr. Wagner for myself and for my 12 year old daughter since she was 7 because prior to all it was great there. But these last few check ups have gotten worse. The front desk lady is as always super nice and helpful, but whatever older sales lady they have working with you after the check up, does the insurance end of things is rude. Just because I don't want to use you for my contact refill and request only my prescription doesn't mean you change your personality with your customers. Only nice just because you want me to blow my money there and take my insurance allowance. I take my prescription to Costco and yes they DO cost less there. Less out of my pocket, so I don't care what she decides to tell me. Anyways long story short, I think we will be changing to a different eye care. The Dr. appeared to more irritable and rushed my 12 year old daughter through her exam, and could tell he was getting fed up with her. First of all she's 12 (still a child), and second kids take longer in general but that should be a given. read more

I'm new to the area and had to find new medical professionals who accept my insurance, what a pain. Very happy from the moment I stepped into Dr. Wagner's office. The office staff were very friendly and thorough. The waiting room had one other person ahead of us but we were taken to the back for initial work up and seen very quickly. I went in for both an update on my glasses and contacts. Dr. Wagner was very thorough, professional and friendly, well spoken, knowledgeable. The optical technicians/optical staff were also friendly and professional. Very good selection of glass frames--i wasn't planning on purchasing new frames this visit, but I did see some very nice higher end quality frames when that time comes about. The gentleman working the optical shop is awesome by the way. Professional, friendly...had amazing recommendations and was very meticulous in explaining everything...both for my contacts and my glasses. BTW - I recommend getting optical scan vs dilating drops for the examination--with the sun so bright here in Arizona it's tough to leave the office with dilated pupils! You'd be blinded even with a protective shield and really dark sunglasses! (Actually, I don't believe they'd let you leave right away anyhow--very damaging to you eyes) The optical scan is about $36 extra (maybe less, can't remember) but it's worth being able to leave the office without being blinded! read more

The doc who started this practice is Dr. Reid. First saw him in 5th grade, 42 years ago. Yep! Dr. Wagner has now been my doc for quite some time. Dr. Reid still comes in once and awhile. My vision isn't great. I had a detached retina in 2012 that Wagner found. I ended up with major surgery; but a good outcome. Dr. Wagner is so patient, and thorough. He listens. His goal is to improve my vision. He might make me try a couple different sets of contact lenses; but he wants me to be the one who decides what I prefer. My appts. are long. He never acts frustrated. Very professional. Love Nancy. Always had great service choosing glasses. I recommend them. Might be a little pricier; but I do have health insurance and trust my eyes to their practice! read more

Eye exam. Fine. Paid almost $1000 for exam and glasses. OK. Then what a mess it has become. Six weeks later still can't drive at night because I don't have my prescription glasses. Sent to lab but then came back with only one lens done. Sent back. Got text saying to come and pick them up. Drove over. "Sorry not ready, we will mail them to you." Three weeks go past. Call. "Oh glasses are just sitting here. We will mail them out." Wrong prescription AGAIN. Call and wait on hold 25 minutes. Told to bring them back in. Wait thirty minutes In the front office. Turns out they mixed up two patients with same first name so someone else *also* getting the wrong glasses. So that's where we are. Update two weeks later: AND the prescription was wrong again! Update further - another ten days later.... still no glasses, now they arrived at the office but are now 'missing'. read more

I highly recommend Wagner Eye Care! The staff is great (Nancy is particularly friendly and helpful) and Dr. Wagner can't be beat! He always spends a lot of time with me, doing a thorough job of checking everything related to my eyes and not stopping until he feels sure he has my prescription just right and has explained all the information related to how healthy my eyes are in relationship to past exams. He is patient, thorough, knowledgeable and very good at what he does.
