Local diner outside of Churchill. We went the morning of the KDF mini & full marathon race. Able to seat ourselves and greeted right away by friendly staff. Ordered and received drinks & food quickly. Cute gift shop in the back.

We had the best visit here. The food and service are great, and we loved the vibe. After having a quick bite, we went to see the ponies, which was so fun.

Wagner's is over 100 years old and is part of Louisville. With its proximity to Churchill Downs and the fairgrounds, it welcomes several visitors. If you have a student at UL, Wagner's is close by university as well. This divey diner covers all areas of the walls with photos of winning horses and events at the track. Seat yourself at one of the several tables and during the better weather there's also a large patio. Breakfast and lunch all day. I got the superfecta breakfast platter with eggs, sausage, bacon, potatoes and pancakes. The pancakes were so good! It's hard to find a good pancake in Louisville and these had a bit of sweetness in the batter. Solid coffee too. Other family members enjoyed the bratwurst sandwich, onion rings, burgers, fries and chocolate milk. We can't wait to return because there's so much more to enjoy. Service was friendly and family-like. We enjoyed talking to the staff and later browsing the gift shop. If you're visiting there's plenty of reasonably priced items to pick up as gifts. Come enjoy part of our city's history!

The pace to be for breakfast during Derby week There's always a line waiting for a table. Put your name in and peruse the pharmacy store. We each had a bacon, egg and cheese biscuit that was pretty stuffed. There's plenty of parking in the back. Go and get in the Wagners action. 53

After an early morning doctor's appointment for my wife who had to fast we needed to find a nearby place for breakfast. Fortunately we were able to go to Wagner's with an hour to spare before they quit serving breakfast. We found a table close to the front of the restaurant with a view of Churchill Downs and were greeted by a friendly server who brought us drinks and took our order. Wagner's is a diner throwback from the 50s and 60s. It's simple and filling breakfast foods and reasonable prices.

Dropped in here for lunch. The burgers arms fries are great. The breakfast menu looks good too and there is a nice gift shop. Hours are from 7am to 2:30pm. Old time drugstore with a lunch counter.

Pretty good place. Service was just a normal diner type style & same with the atmosphere. The place was packed around lunch time & they still seemed to keep everybody content. Nothing fancy but I think it's a place to check out being so close to Churchill downs & a pretty well known place in the area. My salad wasn't bad & the grilled chicken on it had good flavor. The dressings are the single package Ken's brand & I went with ranch & a little drizzle of Italian.

A classic Louisville staple. They released a prototype sticky bun. I must say, they need to put it on the menu. Service is great as always. Still giving that old school diner atmosphere. You know what to expect good common folk food. Absolutely, fantastic.

I am ashamed to confess, I've lived here 44 years (i.e., my entire life...not giving some deathbed confessional after settling down here after decades abroad or anything)...and I just visited this Louisville institution recently. This is a failure I will need to atone for with many future visits. Just a great place. Lot of history here, as the photos lining the walls will attest. Right across the street from Churchill Downs, many racing folk have made their way to this spot over the years for classic diner style breakfast and lunch. So, it's pretty cool to step into history when you visit here. Food is excellent diner fare. Strong breakfast lineup, quality burgers, hearty sandwiches (ribeye is tender, juicy, and just plain delicious), good daily specials (I'm partial to fried fish Fridays). The kind of place I wish there were more of out there. Service is friendly and efficient. If you're in town for some horse races, drop in. If you're in town for something else, do the same. And if you're like me and live here, get over there for some good grub, and repeat the process!

A very popular and well-known diner here in Louisville! They are mostly known for all of their Derby decor, lots of old photos from back in the day. They also sell derby items here so if you're looking for horse toys, derby cups, chocolate, etc you'll find it here! I'm definitely going to come back to buy some items. The eating area is on the other side of the room. Lots of tables. When you walk in, they'll seat you. Menus are on the table. It wasn't busy at 9am on a Friday but it got a bit busier as we sat. Still a good number of open tables though. I got the ham and eggs with potatoes and wheat bread, my sister got bacon and eggs with potatoes and rye, and my friend got a sandwich with sausage and cheese. He doesn't like eggs. Simple breakfast items. But I understand that some folks enjoy eating breakfast out. It's nice to have a simple breakfast that you can expect to taste decent. Food was good. I liked the ham. Very flavorful and not dry. Potatoes were almost too crispy. Not bad but I wanted a mix of crispy and less crispy. My sisters bacon looked almost too crisp, but she said they weren't too bad. Prices were good for what you're getting, especially now if you go to a popular spot it may be more expensive to get a meal like this. Service was fast and they were attentive to our table. Only a couple servers but they did a good job checking up. You pay at the back room where they sell all the derby stuff. Parking is easy. Tons of spots around the entire building. I'm sure it gets busy here on or around derby day since one side of the building looks out to the gates to the infield.

Finally had an opportunity to visit this local landmark, established in 1922. I've seen it highlighted every year at Derby time as being a well-loved and well-visited hot spot located near trackside with a well-documented history. We were easily able to be seated for a Friday lunchtime group of 8. The place was fairly busy and bustling with customer traffic. Menu consisted mainly of the good homemade diner standards that one would typically expect -- fried or cold bologna, chili, vegetable beef soup, Patty melts, tuna and chicken salad on toast, and hot brown. There are also several daily and weekly specials. I tried the cup of chili and half of a chicken salad sandwich, which came with a side of chips, all under $10. Great value, great quality, and great flavor. Our waitress and other waitstaff were extremely friendly and nice. Size of our party hindered a fast food timeline, but it's nice to slow down sometimes, so no complaints here. Walls were covered in every imaginable available spot to display news articles, horse shoes, bridles, and photographs. It was fun to wander around to look at all of the memorabilia and there is a gift shop area near the back parking lot entrance doors to grab souvenirs. This will be a fun place to visit again just to soak up more of the history and enjoy a homemade meal.

THIS IS HOW BREAKFAST IS DONE!…read more I'm always looking for the local flavor that stands out among the crowd and Breakfast AF (cool name btw), really held true to their brand. Situated an easy drive from downtown, and part of the Schnitzeltown are of Louisville, this apparently was a legacy deli counter back in the heyday and the original corner Hauck's deli sign is still visible. The expansion seems to include a few bars, a pizza joint, breakfast joint, and a revised deli with a smoker actively going at the end of the complex. And it is complex... we sat out front on the patio of the breakfast joint since we had the pup with us, but had I known how large the rear patio was, we would've chosen to sit back there away from the road traffic. I the menu is straightforward... the fare is on the higher side of breakfast pricing, but the portions are enormous and I easily made two meals off my sandwich and home fries. Speaking of which... get it... wich... okay fine. I chose the fried chicken/bacon/egg sandwich on Texas toast and it was... substantial. I added home fries, but honestly, the sandwich was a meal on and of itself. The two succulent chicken tenders exploded with flavor of a distinctive savoriness and that flavor peaked when I dipped them in maple syrup (they have a dispenser next to the coffee pots). The egg and bacon were perfectly cooked, complemented each other well, and the buttery toast just pulled it all together. My wife chose the shrimp-n-grits and that was just a flavor bomb with every bite. Savory grits with the slightly sweet shrimp, topped with smoked pork belly, and drizzled with a chili crisp oil that simply overwhelmed the tastebuds with every bite. It's a line order with pagers, so place your order, grab a table, and the coffee/water is self serve over across from order pickup. The back patio is open air, expansive, and spans the entirety of the multi space front buildings. There's even a soft surface children's playground behind the new deli. I was just absolutely astounded and definitely want to make it back to try their lunch fare next time I'm in town!

The hot chocolate was pipping hot and delicious topped with toasted marshmallows. The apple cider mimosas had a weird flavor, I would recommend going with another fruit juice option. We ordered the kids buttered noodles with waffle on the side - big wide noodles that were swimming in butter. My son thought it was too much butter but loved the type of noodles. The waffle was good - not very sweet but he enjoyed it. My daughter loved the chicken and waffles entree, but I thought the portion was a bit small for an adult entree. The chicken was freshly breaded but the waffle was on the smaller side. The sandwiches and soups were delicious - we had the club which was filled with ham and turkey and the perfect amount of mayo. My top-tier chum who literally went to the school of hospitality and I came here two Fridays ago ahead of a bourbon tour (thinking, correctly, that we should probably have a hearty meal beforehand so we didn't end up face-first in a gutter somewhere). Several Kentucky natives told us that we had to try a Hot Brown during our visit, and since it was literally created at the Brown Hotel, this seemed like the logical spot. The actual Hotel has some gorgeous interiors, especially upstairs in the lobby. We didn't see that area until after our meal, so when we laid eyes on the Lobby Bar & Grill, we knew immediately that that was where we SHOULD have gone for this Hot Brown dish. J. Graham's, I'm sorry to say, doesn't have the history and personality of the rest of the building and just looks like a generic breakfast spot you'd find in any hotel. It probably exists solely because the other dining options in the hotel aren't open until later and they want to give tourists and their own customers a place to eat at all times of the day, which isn't a terrible reason in my book. But it's also unfortunately not very good, and the dirty walls and overall meh appearance of the establishment just make it very clear that the hey day for this hotel overall was decades ago. The service was the biggest miss here. Our waitress was scatterbrained, often not around or around but hanging out with co-workers or talking up other customers. It was honestly pretty mystifying because when she DID come by, she was often overly apologetic and trying to make amends. But the best way to make amends is not to have to keep doing that throughout the meal. She forgot my friend's coffee (didn't write anything down when we ordered, which is fine if you remember everything but...) and when my chum asked what was in the hummus (one of just three apps), she didn't know and had to go ask someone in the kitchen. That's arguably a nitpick and she DID try to figure it out, but the lunch menu is pretty small and it was a little odd that her menu knowledge was that limited. The bigger problem was that we were in there for over half an hour longer than we wanted to be because she wouldn't come by our table. I actually actively looked for her on the way to the bathroom so I could remind her to come to our table, but instead found her off to the side gossiping with other staff. Not a good look at all. So this might have been an overall positive experience if some of the hospitality from the hotel had spilled over here. We actually both enjoyed the apps, which were the only real positives of the experience. The Bourbon Barrel Fries and the Two Timer, featuring Smoked Bourbon Hummus (bourbon tends to be the theme of your days in this town, I've found) were both really good, and I probably ate more of those than the actual entree. The fries were cooked perfectly and were well seasoned/addictive. The Hot Brown was fine for what it was (we split it to try). It's basically a dramatic turkey melt, with slices of turkey coated in cheese and other sauces. It also came with strips of bacon on top, which on a personal palate level I didn't think really helped the dish so I barely nibbled on those. It's definitely a solid entry but it wasn't mind-blowing for either of us. Maybe it's just from where we come from in the Northeast, but I'm conditioned to like my turkey with accompanying stuffing, and usually in the latter part of November. I think it felt kind of weird to be eating turkey with warm cheese. But I'm glad we tried it and got the context at least. You might have a completely different experience with better service, but I'd still recommend going upstairs for any dining. It's a much better atmosphere and you can really appreciate where this hotel fits in the chronology of Louisville. You're not going to get that from going here.

I almost always get the Wake Up Burrito, which is loaded and satisfying, but I've heard great things about the breakfast sando, chilaquiles, and pancakes from friends too. The space has a cool, artistic vibe, the staff is welcoming, and it's the kind of place you want to linger at with a second cup of coffee. Whether you're a local or visiting, put this on your list!

I went to Foko after hearing nonstop hype about it being one of the absolute best breakfast spots…read morein Louisville. The place is positioned as this incredible Mexican breakfast destination, so I figured it had to be something special. Turns out it's just standard Mexican food and drinks. Even if they were using using "the freshest most highest quality ingredients", it doesn't show in the final product at all. Heres what i got: The Espresso Martini ($14) was actually decent--nice and foamy with a solid chocolate note. The Carajillo ($8), on the other hand, was weak. It tasted like plain iced coffee with zero detectable alcohol. I wouldn't order it again. The Wake Up Burrito $14: their biggest hype item. I got it and added chorizo for $3.50, bringing the total to nearly $17.50. It's sausage, cheese, eggs, and beans wrapped up--pretty good, but nothing groundbreaking. Without their green sauce it's completely average, no different from any regular breakfast burrito at a diner. The green sauce itself is what really the only saving grace, but they serve it in tiny thimble-size portions like they're guarding some secret recipe. So for $18 you get a medium-size burrito plus a couple of fried tortillas with cheese on the side. Compare that to mexican spot like Bandito, where the burritos are twice the size and cost much less. This one is seriously overrated. The Chilaquiles - I got the side order of these with the burrito, and were average at best. Just fried tortillas with cheese and a little sauce that had a slightly sour edge. Not bad, but nothing I'd call amazing. I thought to myself, if these had egg and beans(what the main dish has) , would I have been glad to pay $17? The answer is no. Ive had better at the airport. Bottom line: Foko is incredibly overrated. It feels like a tourist trap built for people for those Luisville people who who don't eat much Mexican food and think this is the pinnacle. I get it, the decor is nice and gives that "premium" feel but the prices are way too high for what you actually get. I won't be back.
