Solid Q in Mountain View. Lots of things seemed familiar to me, and I go and find out that they are part of a huge BBQ chain/family but each location has a different name. I've been to 3 others Redwood City BBQ, South Winchester BBQ (San Jose), and Canyon's BBQ (Castro Valley) and I've reviewed most of those quite favorably, except for 1. But they have about 4 others that I haven't been but are on my list. I guess now I'll know they are more the same than they are different. I knew walking in that I was going to like it. A strong aroma of wood smoke hugs you upon entering. A cool mural outside, lots of beers and bbq on the tables, cool tunes that was all over the place genre wise. 2 Meat Combo ($26/4.5*) Crazy solid combo. Not as juicy as I would prefer but between the perfect smoke content and their seasoning just makes me happy enough. Brisket: Their brisket is awesome. Not as juicy as some of the top notch places here in the Bay, but the flavor was perfect for me. Assertive smokiness without being overbearing. Get a piece with a good layer of fat and it was basically hearty beef bacon. I rarely put sauce on brisket but theirs is not bad, maybe just a dot or 2. Ribs: Also drier than what I like but the flavor and meaty texture was enough for me. Definitely have to pull these off the bone a bit, does not easily fall off, which I actually prefer. I like toothsome versus mushy meat. These ribs do have a layer of bbq sauce cooked into them, so it has a sweet and tangy flavor already in it. But they still can accept extra sauce, as it will not only moisten the ribs further but it will amp up the tang and sweetness that pork ribs are natural for. Tried 2 sides, beans and coleslaw. The beans aren't the super sweet kind, which I liked. More chili-like very hearty and complimenting to the smoky bbq. The slaw was perfect, crisp with a creamy yet slightly sweet dressing. Crazy good, I could actually eat their sides alone as a meal. Their corn bread here is strange. It is cooked in a sheetpan and cut into squares much like a brownie. But that square is then griddled til golden brown so I totally thought it was garlic bread at first. The other bbq spots I tried from this same company didn't make corn bread like that, so this was a first for me. Probably the only miss for me here. Also tried a half pound of Tri Tip ($20/4*) Very meaty that they were able to keep it a nice pink medium, which I like. But much milder in smoke than their brisket and ribs. I ended up making sandwiches with these at home. They are sliced pretty thick so you may have to slice some of them further. It bites easier in thinner slices versus monster thick slices that will pull out of the bread with each bite. I learned that on this out so just throwing out a tip. A solid bbq throwdown with a cold frosty one, plus lots of leftovers for work lunches the next few days, is just an out I can repeat over and over. Glad I found this spot! read more

I gave this place another two tries, and the food improved significantly! The manager reads the reviews and has responded to my previous review. They are very courteous. However, the experience can vary depending on the day and the team serving you. On my first visit, the server and cook were attentive and asked how the food was. Great food and service. Stopped by after work and heard a lot about this place so I had to check it out. Right off Moffet Blvd on 101 is where it's located with minimal parking. Got the regular tri tip meal with potato salad & Mac and cheese and cokes with corn bread. Trip tip was tender and juicy. Potato salad wasn't too bad but it was flavorful. We were craving bbq, especially after hearing a neighborhood favorite just closed down. So we found this place doing an online search. It was a little hidden in a part of Mountain View we don't normally frequent. The restaurant was quaint with ample seating, and clean restrooms. There seemed to be a party room on the side (but it wasn't open at the time of our visit). We went on a weeknight, around 8:15 PM, a little before their 9 PM closing. We were sad to hear they had run out of a lot of menu items, including the brisket, burnt ends, cornbread, etc. Some of them ran out around 5 PM so they didn't even have enough for the dinner crowd! Overall I'd give it 5 stars for the food that they did have (we tried their hot links, tri-tip, and pork ribs, which were all tasty), but 4 stars for the service (it was not very friendly nor helpful for our first time there, but perhaps it was because English wasn't the cashier's first language). Additionally they started cleaning up the restaurant at around 8:30 PM so we're lucky we grabbed some bbq sauce before that. We might consider going back again to try their brisket (which is what we were wanting this time), but would probably call first to make sure they didn't run out. This is a hidden spot. The same menu as Mission BBQ - Santa Cruz, 152 in Gilroy, and the BBQ Pit in San Jose. The food was delicious even though there was only one couple in the restaurant at 5pm on Sunday. The brisket, tri tip, chicken, baked potato, coleslaw, potato salad, garlic bread and Mac and cheese were all delicious! From the parking lot, the place looked closed and questionable cause of the weird location it is in. However, there really isn't anything to worry about as it is very safe. We'll be back! read more

This is a great bbq spot! My younger sister had them cater her baby shower a few years back in which we all enjoyed. Yesterday we came with my family and got to sit inside the quiet room in the back which might be for big groups/parties. I love the intimacy and space it provides. We loved our entire spread! My sister treated us to delicious ribs, beef brisket, chicken, cornbread, garlic bread, beans and mashed potatoes. We also loved their baked potatoes which has a nice salt & pepper crust on the skin. Everything was on point and served hot and fresh. I'd like to thank Jose, our server and the cashier! He was so nice and very patient with us. He gave us everything we needed and made sure we were well taken care of. For dessert we loved their bread pudding with ice cream, blueberry pie and chocolate pie. We also paired our dessert with coffee. This was the perfect place for dinner for me and my fam. Great time for sure! I will say I do wish they changed out their soda machine; two flavors were already tapped out and serving just bubbles, the iced tea machine wasn't pouring well and wasn't giving the right iced tea flavor. I think they should swap this whole thing for either a basic soda machine (coke, sprite, Dr Pepper, etc,) or those new machines that pour multiple sodas and lemonades. I also recommend a small station of different bbq sauces and jars of pickled onions, jalapeños, etc. this would make it easier for people to grab rather than asking the employees. Had my group not ordered almost every meat on the menu to sample, I would've given my tried & trues -- burnt ends & pork ribs -- an unfavorable rating. I've had better version of these elsewhere as the burnt ends here were tough & I didn't enjoy the pork rib flavor. Since I couldn't count on Wagon Wheel for these items, I turned to their hot links & brisket to better judge their offerings; good thing I did because they were juicy & flavorsome. These meats & the sides salvaged this review. Mac & cheese was notably better than other bbq joints, & the potato salad & beans (a bit on the sweet side) were crowd faves. Hard to mess up a loaded baked potato, as well. I didn't try the dark meat chicken, pulled pork, or tri tip but those in my group who did said everything was excellent. My bf even went as far as to say Wagon Wheel is his favorite BBQ spot of all the places we've tried recently. As for dessert, skip the bread pudding. read more

I ordered potato salad, St. Louis style rib, and hot links.... For the price I paid I thought it was a little expensive... A small portion for potato salad only about three ribs and one hot link.... I only got one hot link at seven dollars... they tasted all just fine but nothing outstanding... I'm sure they're making lots of money off of the portions.
