Mattress was softer than I prefer, but that's personal preference. Armand, his wife and staff were very helpful with questions about where to eat, what to see. While there, met a couple who'd been staying there every summer for many years. Definitely would return.

This one has 2 bedrooms, a small and well stocked kitchen, a sitting area with a futon, dining table by a fireplace, and a small bathroom. They provide wood and kindling and have a firepit for each cabins use. I loved the rustic camp atmosphere, with the cut out wood entry to the bedrooms. This place is comfortable, and not flashy. The porch was relaxing to sit out on for morning coffee. Things to note: The toilet gurgles, it's a septic system. The shower is stall style, no tub. The bedroom dividing wall does not go to the ceiling so you could potentially hear what the other side says or does. There are a couple steps to get inside. The kitchen has way more supplies than expected. The beach walk takes maybe 5 minutes. There is a cute fairy garden by the beach. You do hear some road noise even though you are tucked away in the forest. I would love to come stay again. (Hoping to plan another trip for next year).

The living room has a futon that folds out to a double, and the chair and ottoman fold out to a single--so this could possibly accommodate 7-8 people who really don't value their privacy at all. Firewood is provided. Bath towels are not. Bring soap, shampoo, toiletries. As noted, the TV's don't have cable and WIFI has not yet reached the cabins. There is a library of VCR tapes in the office to borrow, along with a collection of board games. We didn't use any of these--but we had perfect weather for our short stay. There's a private beach across the road and we took advantage of that. Each cabin has a fire ring with chairs, a grill, and a picnic table. After five nights in unfailingly terrible hotel beds, the beds here were a big win for me. I am nursing a nasty shoulder injury and have a hard time sleeping and limited positions, and slept exceptionally well here. Great pillows, comfortable mattresses, nice sheets and blankets. Daughter, who's a light sleeper, was very comfortable on the futon as well. We'd happily come back for a longer stay--it was basic but very comfortable and reasonably well appointed, not luxurious but everything we needed and a few things we wanted. Staff was friendly and helpful and cabin information binder gave us good suggestions of where to eat (which we should have followed.)

Breakfast was served until 10 o'clock in the morning. It was very busy with big groups of children under five and seniors; an interesting mix. There were three waffle makers with assorted toppings, coffee, frozen pastries, yogurt, biscuits & gravy, eggs & bacon. There was an indoor & an outdoor pool, coin operated washing machines, fitness center, nightly bonfire and playground on the premises. A golf cart shuttled seniors & children around the property.

After a poor night's rest, on the morning of the 5th, I found a bedbug crawling through the sheets. I trapped the bug under a plastic cup, and my husband went down to the front desk to notify the attendant. Housekeeping members were sent to take a look, and confirmed it was a bedbug. One of the women said to the other that, "I told them there were bedbugs" in a neighboring room, but that nothing had ever been done (?!!!). I subsequently went and spoke with the front desk attendant myself, who took my name and phone number, and assured me that she had also texted the manager (offsite at the time) who would be following up with me. We left stressed, with ALL our belongings in trash bags, in hopes of not transferring any bedbugs to our home. The hotel was fully booked at the time of our stay, and who knows how widespread the issue is, or how many people may have unwittingly carried off bugs to their next destination. My family is now on pins and needles, worrying that we may have brought back bedbugs that we will continue to incur expense and stress dealing with. Two days went by with zero follow-up from management, so I AGAIN called and spoke with the same front desk attendant. She told me that "my manager won't be back on site until Wednesday". I asked her again to urgently relay the message that we wanted to be contacted ASAP. On Tuesday morning, when there was still no reply, I contacted Budget Host International's main customer service line in Texas. The person I spoke with also tried calling, was unable to reach a manager directly, and requested a call back to the corporate office. (*As of this morning, Friday June 12, she also has not been responded to.) Also on Tuesday morning, I sent a lengthy email to the attention of the manager. On Tuesday night I finally received a very brief reply that was essentially an excuse about the non-communication and a statement that they have a 3rd party pest control company investigating, and that, "I have issued a partial refund". There was no name or job title attached, and we have received NO refund, partial or otherwise, nor is anything pending on the credit card that was used for our stay. There was also NO apology for our experience. UNBELIEVABLE. I would expect any hotel to be all the way on top of any bedbug complaint with quick response and robust damage control. I have worked in customer service and administration for thirty years, and cannot believe the poor maintenence, unprofessionalism and outright dishonesty of this place. I tried to give management time to properly handle this before leaving negative feedback, but after a week of runaround, I am done. It's a disgrace how carelessly this place is run. AVOID!

Its central location makes it easy to walk to several great restaurants nearby, which is a big plus. Also the views of the lake are spectacular, on the night we were there we were able to view the fireworks from our porch. The hospitality here is always warm and genuine, and the rooms in the hotel section are consistently clean and comfortable. While we haven't stayed in the B&B portion yet, we've had a chance to see inside--and it's absolutely beautiful. Looking forward to another visit soon!
