Loved the decorations. The food was great and service was quick and very attentive. Glad we tried the place out.

The Chori pollo is straight up good and almost too much food . A nice not to oily full flavored chorizo on top of sliced chicken and smothered in queso . Refried beans are not to thin and not to thick with a good flavor . Rice is kind of on the dry side but has a good flavor . When mixing the rice and beans together it becomes a perfect combination with a perfect consistency. One and only thing that I really did not care for was the salsa . The salsa was the consistency of ketchup , lacked flavor , no spice and just not up to the same standards as the rest of the food . The chips on the other hand were that nice light crunchy chip . If you want spicy ask for the hot sauce's they have . There are 3 different sauces with 3 different heat levels . The hottest one is a creeper so be careful , I had a few bites before it caught me off guard . It has a good flavor and a good kick of spice . Stopped in today and tried this hidden restaurant. NOT IMPRESSED! We've eaten at most of the Mexican places around Johnson City. For a newer place, they were PRICY! Employees stood around on their phones. The food was "OK". Their redeeming factor is that they had a full bar, beer, wine, and liquor. There were only 2 other couples, and I sat alone at the bar. The bartender, too, was on his phone. Three servers spoke in Spanish, which I know makes many Americans uncomfortable! This is America, where we speak ENGLISH to assimilate as our forefathers all did with pride! The final straw for me was that the double doors on the right side were locked when I began to leave after eating! Those doors need to be unlocked during business hours! Wahaca just keeps getting better and better! Server Gerald was cheerful, attentive, and professional. Everything was cooked perfectly, and arrived not only timely...but very oven hot. My new favorite was the Tres Amigos, plenty to eat plus a to-go box! Usually house special margaritas are sugary and disappointing. Not so the $1.99 weekend margarita special. We frequent this place for quick dinners. We enjoy their back patio for fresh air and space. It can get a bit crowded inside at times. However, the service is always good. They never skip a beat when they are crowded. The birria tacos are good. The gringo burrito is good if you prefer a chicken option. But our usual quick picks are the carne asada plate and carnitas and their bean dip as an appetizer. read more

The service was excellent the staff was friendly and accommodating. The food was tasty and exactly what we ordered.

Location makes me forget about this place but 2nd time visit was better than the first. Huge portions and spices and flavored well. Trea hermanos was a nice mix of proteins and veggies for a well balanced meal. Service was good and friendly. Not too busy on a rainy Friday night, not sure if that was the weather or the location, but no way it could be for food or prices. Just finished eating a late lunch and was blown away by the flavors and the food! My husband is from Ecuador and we go every couple of years and we have been twice to Mexico. I have not had ceviche de camarones outside of Ecuador or Mexico that was as good as the ceviche in had today. And believe me, I've tried all the local restaurants. This ceviche had wonderful flavors and just the right amount of heat. And the shrimp were perfect. I apologize for the pic, but after my first bite I was in heaven and was halfway finished before I thought to snap a pic. My husband had the Hawaiian chicken and he said it also was super flavorful and cooked to perfection! Service was fast and friendly. Located in the rear of the strip of businesses, the location has been the home of several previous restaurants. It appears Wahaca has adjusted the decor for their profile, with brighter colors than previous occupants. We have had Oaxacan food previously so were looking forward to trying another option of a delicious cuisine. Parking is plentiful, with handicapped spaces right next to the door and adjacent to the building. The remaining spaces are across a travel lane. We ordered ahead and our food was ready when we walked in at the stated time. The wait staff was very friendly. The carnitas had chunks of pork, but there were three very fatty pieces included which had almost no meat. The meat chunks were well cooked, but the flavor was very muted. The beans and rice were fine, and the accompanying avocado and lettuce were fresh and good. The Pollo Hawaiian was also well prepared, but again, the flavors were muted. The salsa was a disappointment, being mostly tomato sauce with very little other flavors. Onion and cilantro were almost nonexistent, and the salsa was very smooth. Although a chunkier salsa is a personal preference, the muted flavors and apparent store-bought chips are well below par. Oaxacan spices are different from typical Mexican restaurants, giving standard dishes a noticeably different flavor profile. Unfortunately, Wahaca seems to have muted their spices so much the food becomes bland and is not a good representation of what the cuisine can be. read more

It was the worst experiance ive ever had i ordered 8 soft tacos and they put the shells flat in container and throw the stuff on top like there feeding a dog so i called back to the resteraunt and told them about and they get a attitude with u and would not refund my money i will never go there again and i will tell everyone i know not to eat there unless u want to eat like a damn dog in my opinion they are a minus 10 stars they are definately not the one star i had to give them to leave this review read more

We tried the Quesabirria, Taco salad and Mexican street corn. We were extremely disappointed in the value. The street corn was about half the size expected and didn't have much on it except a dollop of cream and a pinch of cheese with no seasoning for $5. The taco salad and quesadilla birria were also about half the size of other restaurants in the area for the price and heavy on cilantro. The service was fast but very pushy about taking your plates even before you finish your meal. Overall it strikes me as another reataurant that was probably a food truck that should have stayed that way. We have too many good Mexican restaurants in the area to give this place your money. read more

Went back again and wasn't disappointed at all. The portions are like the Chedders of old--HUGE. In this day and age finding a meal you pay for to fill you up is hard to come by. I had the enchilada mole and it was excellent. It came out hot and a looking delicious. Three beef enchiladas were excellent. I asked for the house hot sauce and that hit the spot. Absolutely DELICIOUS!! This place blows every other Mexican place in the Tri- Cities completely away. The salsa was perfect. Probably the best I've ever had. I ordered the Birria quesadilla, and it literally melted in my mouth. My husband ordered the volcano fajitas, and OMG. The tortillas were so fresh! It had chicken and steak, and they both were cooked to perfection, along with jalapeños and onions. Absolutely delicious. We cannot wait to go back and try something else! read more

I don't know where this other guy ate, but I sure am glad I didn't let his review stop me from eating here. This was by far the best restaurant I have eaten at in a while. From the salsa, to cheese dip, to guacamole (best guac I've ever had) to fajitas. Chicken was so tender. Even the toddler ate and he's a tough critic. Oh and service was great too! This place is so good. Might be our new Friday routine! I know my husband is looking forward to the beer but that's just part of opening a restaurant. They'll have it soon. Nice building that's it! Having spent 32 years in Phoenix we'd like to think we know a little bit about Mexican food. Burnt tamale $6.00, tasteless charrizo and salsa. They want to put cheese sauce on every thing. All dishes are way too expensive. With only 4 customers it took 20 minutes to get a breakfast burrito and a tamal. NO BEER!! NO SALSA BAR!!! 2 stars because the service was great. I could taste dish water in the salsa that came with the chips. I had the Chilaquiles, a dish that I have had many times both homemade and in restaurants. Party of four on a Friday evening. Quickly seated, and drink orders placed. The medium margaritas we got were closer to the Dollaritas from Appleby's in taste than we liked; mine felt pre-mixed and watered down for a $12 drink. Food was out fairly quickly and portion size was reasonable for the cost. Food seemed like standard Mexican fare- our Chori Pollo and Polla Fundito were fine but nothing to write home about. The big negative was the DJ in the corner cranking out Black Sabbath, Bee Gees, and Micheal Iackson, with undiscernable narration with infinite reverb.
