This perception stems from not being aware of cultural differences. The reason that the owner employs black females to work the floor is simple; black women are more familiar with hair products used by black females. As a Black woman I recognize that our hair is very different from that of Asians so although an Asian may be the business owner, he would not necessarily know what products are recommended for the many different types of textures and styles of Black hair. I have been patronizing this business for at least 8 years and I find it to be well stocked and have never had a problem with the owner. Whenever I have asked for help he has either pointed me in the right direction or asked his employee to assist me. I have never been followed around the store in suspicion as suggested by some reviewers. The fact is that Asian personalities are generally more reserved than Americans are used to. Asians business owners are not going to greet you first or be forward in any way; that is not in keeping with their culture. However in my experience they are polite and do say thank you when you patronize their businesses.

I had an extremely frustrating experience trying to get a clear and timely response from "Ben." I…read moream not sure whether he is the owner, manager, or simply the person responsible for customer service, because that was never made clear. However, if Ben is the owner, he is one of the worst business owners I have personally dealt with when it comes to communication and customer service. I originally emailed to request a change of address for my order. Instead of confirming whether the address had actually been updated, Ben responded only with, "sounds great." That is not an appropriate response to an important shipping request. I needed a direct answer explaining whether the address had been changed, whether additional information was required, or whether it was already too late to make the change. I did not receive a proper response to my original email until the following day, and by that time the order had already shipped. What made the situation even more disappointing was that I did not receive any meaningful response or action until after I posted a public review about my experience. Only after the review was posted did Ben respond and cancel my next order. While I appreciate that the future order was eventually canceled, it should not have taken a public review to receive basic customer service. It is difficult to understand how a business that reportedly started in 1998 could operate with this level of communication. Based on my experience, I find it hard to believe that an owner could treat customers this way and expect the business to last. Customers should not have to post negative reviews just to receive a response. A simple message such as, "Your address has been updated," or, "Unfortunately, the order has already shipped," would have avoided much of the confusion. Instead, I received a vague response after it was already too late, and my next order was canceled only after I publicly shared what happened. Whether Ben is the owner or the manager, this was some of the worst customer service I have dealt with, and I would not feel comfortable ordering from this business again.
