This Walgreens is on one end of Oakland City Center at the corner of 14th and Broadway. Recently, I stopped by during my lunch hour to shop for a couple of items. It is not a large store and I did notice that they didn't carry an extensive product line. Also, the aisle felt tight and more so with the amount of customers in the store. The queue for the register starts in aisle 7, but with three four cashiers, the wait was relatively short. The cashier was courteous and efficient. During my transaction, a lady with a baby in a stroller came up to one of the cashiers and started ranting as to "how she has been disrespected". She wanted to talk to the manager because "she's ain't supposed to be treated that way". Never knew what the outcome was as I paid and was out the door. Overall, courteous and efficient cashiers serving customers ranging from office workers to students to the elderly. But be warned that some of the street elements might be in the store too. read more

I needed to pick up a couple of cards. there was only one person ahead of me in line - how long did it take to put her 12 bottles of soda in 6 bags? 10 minutes! The cashier was moving like pond water - seriously?! I watched her s-l-o-w-l-y pick ... up.... a bottle.... move it to the opening in the bag .... rummage around and finally...ahhhhhh... plop. repeat this 12 times ... i was about to go insane. then just as I was up for service - some nutjob in a lark comes crashing by me and throws his stuff up on the counter. Did the cashier say "sir you just cut in front and you must go to the end of the line?" Of course not ...she didn't say a word just slowly began processing the sale.... Walked in to buy some basic staples, walked right back out because the lines were ridiculously long, and I saw the manager up front arguing with a guy with a bike. Went across the street to the Rite Aid, in & out quickly! I expect better than that from a Walgreen's. read more

I get what I need and get out - always. I head here at lunch if I need to grab chips/asprin, but that's all I will ever go there for. Things are always in stock, which is a plus - it just isn't a place I would spend much time in. The line to checkout is usually pretty long and winds down an aisle, which causes some congestion. The check-out clerks aren't super friendly and usually only talk to me when they try to upsell me gum. read more

Sure it's within walking distance of my place, but I'd much rather walk across the street to the rite-aid, or make the extra trip around the lake or even Alameda. The aisles are cramped, people are forever in your way and all I want is some dishwasher soap and a root beer. It's just to much of a headache. The employees however, I really like. The pharmacy is constantly understaffed, especially during the evening hours when people are coming after work. They have 3 windows but only one is ever open. I always seem to wait in a line of 3-4 people for at least a half hour as the customers are so slowly handled by the single pharmacist servicing customers. The wait time is very unreasonable. I've seen several customers give up after 20 minutes when the same customer is still waiting and the line hasn't moved at all. The "front of the house" (the general store) is generally better/faster, so I'd give it 3 stars if not for the pharmacy's poor performance. read more

Worse Walgreen around! Most employees are either rude or just don't care or don't know anything. Went in here to scan a few photos... the lady working at the photo center was more concern about ringing people at the cashier. She said she wasn't sure how it work...more like she didn't want to help me. I tried to figure it out. I'm pretty tech savvy, but 1.) the cover was broken and 2.) it wasn't scanning the full picture. I gave up and went to a local print shop. Went back another day asking for a specific cord, three employers at the photo center looked at me as if i was crazy and speaking gibberish. They didn't even care to look or ask me more about it. They just stared at me until I asked them again. One guy just shook his head NO. Seriously?! You could have simply said "No, we don't carry those"... obviously this store is hiring whoever sends a resume in. There are a few employees that do exceptional job though...the black lady who works the beauty counter is always friendly and knows what is what and where is where. I kinda feel bad for her...I would hate to work in a place like that. Rite Aid isn't a whole lot better, but customer service there is much better. No matter the time or the day, the cashiers move at a snail's pace which might be slightly forgivable if at least they were friendly, which they are NOT! And because they're union workers, there's no penalty for poor performance. So, with the option of RideAid across the street, I take my business to them. I counted four before my attention was drawn to a child with a forced cold demeanor wheeling luggage around like she'd just touched down for a quarterly meeting. Advil, to make the headache go away. Blue, electrolyte-rich sport drink to make the ideas fizz and percolate up to the surface. I bought the advil after waiting patiently for a succession of people to engage the cashier in friendly banter as they purchased non-traditional gummy bears, possibly Flintstones vitamins, possibly dog medicine or foam ear plugs. "Credit or debit?" "Debit," I hissed, pretending I had laryngitis. "Pin number," the young clerk, a suave man in his mid-20s with ambitions to own property and manage a Walgreen's of his own, prodded as he looked past me into the gummy bear aisle. I coughed up the digits, clutching my abdomen. The path beside the lake was thronged with walkers in pairs and trios and joggers charging in both directions, sowing chaos. I had the worst customer service from The pharmacist Named May L. (Asian) I walked up to the counter, asked her in a very respectable way to Check me out .Because I notice the front line was long with 15 people, they are short of staff . The pharmacist May L had no other person in line for cheak out besides me she told me NO! in a rude tone of voice, i asked her why she couldnt cheak me out she told me to "GET IN LINE LIKE THE REST" I then proceed to the frount of the store to ask to speak to a Manager! (Manager Wasn't there) I then went to the back to the pharmacist (May L) to see with my eyes she cheaking out a (white customer) i will be contacting the store . The lines at this place are always long! The product selection is only OKAY. The aisles are generally very clean and organized. Riteaid has cheaper deals for about half the price. The only problem is that you have to cross the street to deal with panhandlers & street vendors. Most of the staff at Walgreen's provide mediocre/ average service at best. The only exceptional person is Adrianna who works in the cosmetics aisle. She is friendly, personable, and she goes the extra mile to give helpful suggestions as to what products to buy. As for the pharmacy, the line is usually long and the staff work very slow. The workers in the drug department give indifferent customer service at best. The head pharmacist MYUNG Il L. gives DEPLORABLE customer service. I asked very simply to use the bathroom. She replied in a very rude manner, " NO BATHROOM FOR CUSTOMERS!". When I questioned why then staff let me use the bathroom before and why the sudden change, she yelled "NO BATHROOM, IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT GO TO THE STORE-MANAGER OR GO TO CITY HALL!!". It was absolutely the most horrific treatment I have ever received in a store. I understand that they deal with shady people/shoplifters. However I was dressed very nice, and professionally because I work in the area. It was obvious that I am a regular customer who was only trying to understand the store policy. Unfortunately, I may have to cease giving my dollars here. I spoke to the store manager and he also seemed unconcerned with my needs. He nodded his head and feigned interest. He NEVER apologized on behalf of Walgreen's poor customer care, the pharmacist's highly offensive behavior, or even offer some course of action to rectify the situation. There are many CEOS/CFOs, and people who work on executive boards in this area. Many of them dress like average professional people similar to myself. It would be a tragedy to see this pharmacist or any other staff for that matter treat these people poorly. They will really lose out if they keep this lack of un-accountability up. Never go here unless you have a death wish! Policy issues and serious customer device problems. Pharmacist Mae Lee went on rampage about how it's my doctor's fault she gave my the wrong medication. Then she proceeded to press that having the "generic ok" box checked off is more important than the brand name prescription.... Which I have been taking for 4 years. If she bothered to check my refill history she would know. But she loudly verbally told me "generic is more important than brand" WTF lady? That's a dangerous statement and false. So I plan to report her to the California State Pharmacy Licensing board and write to the management team of Walgreens. Please note as a pharmacist their license is displayed on the wall for a reason!! So they can be accountable for all their actions!! Located in the heart of downtown Oakland, this place is always clean and reliable. With my Ipod blaring in my ears, my volume was a little off, which is why a request like "Where's your condoms?" shouted at the manager could have easily thrown him off. This location has a very limited selection of inventory at high prices. The line to checkout is always long especially at lunch time. You would think that they'd have more staff considering this is downtown Oakland. The reason I'm writing this review is because the cashier didn't even bag my purchase. Note that I brought a reusable bag. It seems like the only way they'll do it is if you pay for the bag fee and buy one from them. Now last time I checked I wasn't an employee of Walgreens but she was. Is it not her job to do so? If they expect customers to bag their own items, put up a self checkout lane and drastically reduce your prices since you won't need cashiers anymore. Worst Walgreens in the area. The line is always long. I come in here all the time because its so convenient to where I live and every time I do I get followed around like I'm some bum off the street. Like seriously I understand they have to look out for "suspect" people but I know I don't look or act like any of them. I visited this Walgreens location 1333 Broadway Oakland CA. I went to have my flu immunization shot and was brought back to a room that was unsanitary and unacceptable. There was a bloody gauge square on the floor as well as blood splattered on the floor! Also, There was no bio-hazard bin, only a regular trash can. I called the customer relations twice and emailed, each time a representative said someone would get back to me in 2-3 days. This was 18 days ago!! read more

Its like the employees go out of their way to get in your way. Two of them were chattering away and saw me trying to squeeze by some other customers in a crowded aisle. What did they do? Cut me of and passed in front of me. Nice. Service is slow slow slow. Sometimes (often in my experience) due to cashiers too busy chatting with each other about eye infections and other personal matters. I am all for fun at work and getting to know your coworkers. But I think you have to strike a balance and at least pretend you want to serve customers too. Anyway, for those of you who think crossing the street to go to Rite-Aid is a good solution, I'll warn you it's no faster there. read more

I called and they said they had my prescription. But when I got there they said it wasn't covered, despite the fact that I had called the insurance company to verify that it was. I was irritated and said I'd pay and then they told me they wouldn't give it to me anyway despite the prescription because I wasn't old enough by a couple of months. What is a terrible shopping experience? Walgreens on Broadway! The pharmacy is routinely understaffed, but the staff there is quite professional and friendly. They do make every effort to be time sensitive, but are always short. My issue is with the store management and staff. They are impolite, short, unwilling to help, and non-responsive when you ask for assistance or push that button for assistance. Today, I had the worst experience when checking out. They refused to process my credit card because I didn't have a CA id on me, though I had my federal id. The manager refused to come to the cashier when I asked for him. I wonder how much this store spends to keep the shoplifting down. I hope its small enough to keep this place open. I don't shop at the Walgreens near my home, but this Walgreens by my office has saved entire meetings. When our secretary was gone for a week without ordering paper pads and highlighters, this Walgreens was there. When long-time clients came to town on short notice, we made good on bottled drinks from Starbucks and snacks from Walgreens. I think this is where all the bosses on the block go to pick up cards for their secretaries. The workers at this Walgreens are great. They're pretty good at managing long lines of impatient workers on their too-short lunch breaks, the old lady with a stack of coupons, and those shoplifters. read more

I stopped in this Walgreens in search of a savory snack after church. This walgreens has a wide selection of food. And while its not a grocery store, it comes pretty darn close. I was able to ge ta couple of cheese sticks (colby jack and cheddar) as well as a vitamin water and a pack of crackers. These were the snacks. They also have whole frozen pizzas, hot pockets, ice cream, eggs, and the like. The rest of the store is pretty well stocked. Although I would caution all who shop here to watch the prices closely. I found out later that the prices on the "clearance" items did not ring up as such and was disappointed in that. Oh well. read more

Totally impossible to get a hold of their pharmacy staff on the phone. You get put on hold at the pharmacy end, after 5 minutes you will be transfered to non-pharmacy staff, they will pick up and transfer you back to the pharmacy line where you will be on hold for another 5 minutes before repeating the process indefinitely. read more

Not my favorite Walgreens to go to. The lines are long, the customer service is sub-par and the neighborhood is....questionable. Da bomb !! The manager helped me find my 40$ bart ticket couple months ago, thanks man! Today a flipino looking cashier lady gave me the most genuine smile ever. She was smiling ear to ear - like she really enjoyed her job. Her eyes were smiling even her nose was smiling. We exchanged a few words - your sincerity made me smile as well. I had to buy a last minute gift - 3 items and it totaled to a whopping 20 $. But looking at that happy lady had my heart at ease - even if my bank account is on the verge or suicide, I paid without a second thought. I'm a big fan if the Wallgreens franchise, but this location ifs rough. Due to the volatile nature of Civic Center in Oakland, the whole store is nailed down. So the simple act of buying earwax removal medication becomes a hunt for the manager with the key and that manager is sometimes nowhere to be found. Damn shoplifters ruining it for all. read more

I've never had to go to the pharmacy department. I go to Walgreens for cosmetics, skin products, and snacks. Never had a problem. It's convenient and always has what I need. The place is clean and looks great from the inside out. I don't see why one would think the location is "dodgy." It's in downtown Oakland, one of the more safer parts of Oakland. I've been shopping at this location for about 18 years... some of the same employee's are still there. Customer service has always been pretty good. Recently they moved acorss the street there Gap use to be... a big improvment. It seems like they got more employee's customer service has stayed pretty much the same quality... I'm not too family with the store's set up so it can be a bit frustrating looking for things... I generally shop at this walgreen because it is near work and I feel that their products' quality is pretty good. They are very helpful in answering my question whenever I have problems. And there is a Walgreen customer rep greet me at the door. I feel like I am in a five star grocery market. Lol but the line here is always so long. It appears that a few days ago they put the stuff on deep discount and consequently they've been cleaned out by the hoarders. the pharmacy called us non stop for days about a prescription they had ready for us, when we went in to pick it up they had lost it and had no clue what refill we were talking about and then took over an hour to fill it. The pharmacy staff do tend to be VERY by the book with meds, meaning any controlled meds can only be picked up by a family member over the age of 18. So don't send your teenager into pick up your medications if any of them are controlled. There is ALWAYS a line halfway to the back of the store or longer! If your in a rush, go somewhere else. every once in a while they have a great price on something. read more
