I went in to get an oil change since I needed one. I found them on Yelp. I got the discount. Upon arriving I was greeted and walked inside. Staff are very nice and polite. I didn't have any issues. I asked how long it would be, approximately one hour. I sat in the waiting area, about 45 minutes late my car was done. Easy and simple. I didn't get talked to about any extra work my car 'needs'. I took my car in because the ac had stopped working and I was hoping against hope it just needed a recharge. They said it would take 45 mins to diagnose since I had an appointment but it took about double that. Then they tell me the ac compressor is broken and it will take $1350 to fix it. I decided to take it to my regular mechanic in Turlock instead- Rogers Auto. Roger confirmed it was the compressor and fixed it for $810. That's a huge difference. Walkers contacted me twice asking for a review so here it is. Clearly theyre very expensive and using the extra revenue to pay for marketing. Wow! They got my van fixed and running better then ever this is what good customer service is all about. After dealing with electrical issues and having other electrical automotive places in town look for the glitch these guys found the problem and had my van running like a champ in less then a week. I've had the worst encounters with walkers each and every time i have been there. I got into a car accident about 6 months ago and took my car here. They had to put in a whole other computer in my car, i got back my car with other issues that were not there before my accident . They told me there was nothing they could do and i would have to take my car to a transmission shop. My car was looked at by another mechanic and it turns out it has nothing to do with the transmission at all the wiring was all messed up when they installed my module. My car is brand new nothing would be wrong with the transmission. Anyways before i found out the real issue they told me they could reset my computer so my car would work for me if it broke down suddenly again and i didn't have time to take it in. When i called them they said no and told me to go to the transmission place. They got paid out by my insurance and my car still wasn't in any condition to drive. I would not recommend anyone go here. I've never dealt with this type of service in my life. I honestly don't even know how this place is still running as a shop, not to mention they charged my husband a shit load of money for his car as well and didn't fix any of the issues he was having. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Walkers! Amazing! We have had a just straight up lemon of a car and been screwed by a couple of mechanics here in Modesto area. Finally decided to take it to Walkers for an issue- they diagnosed super fast and replaced our exhaust manifold same day the part came in. We had a totally unrelated issue come up the next day and took it back and they spent an hour of their time diagnosing and talking to my husband about what's going on, his recommendations, and was completely transparent and honest. Aaron Walker is either a liar or a crook. Have an 06 Mercedes w203 chassis with the m272 motor, has the common issue with the sprocket on the camshaft failed due to Mercedes not using hardened metal on it and I called and spoke to him to get a ballpark estimate on repairs. Told him the OBDII codes I pulled and that I'd already taken the sensors out and lined up the flywheel to verify its out of timing and its definitely that issue. After him looking on his computer a bit he said it'd be roughly $1500 parts + $1500 labor but they'd have to take a look at it to get an exact estimate. Took the car down there and after a few hours I get a call with a quote of $6300-6800. I declined their services then he tried to stick me with a $200 fee for them looking at the car. I wouldn't have even wasted my time taking it down there if he'd given me the $6300 cost over the phone...that's nowhere near ballpark of $3000. Then he tries to tell me all I asked for was a timing chain replacement. BS. Benefit of the doubt IF he was deaf and mentally handicapped, he's gonna charge somebody $1500 for a timing chain kit?? HAHA what a load of bullsh*t. A complete w203 m272 timing chain kit is $325 not $1500 Like I said he's either a liar or a crook. read more

My husband and I have taken our cars here and only here for nearly 20 years because they are honest. Actually, everyone I know takes their cars to Walkers. They always fix it right the first time and for a fair price. Here is the reason I would never go anywhere else: hubby often makes suggestions as to which repairs and services need to be done on the vehicles. Walkers has no problem telling him "your car doesn't need that". They could have swindled us out of thousands of dollars over the years by doing the needless repairs. I called AAA when my car suffered from hydro lock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrolock). I rolled out of a plaza and did not realize how deep the water was. My cold air intake swallowed up enough water to stop functioning. AAA referred a couple of places closer but decided to go to Walker's Automotive. This was probably one of the best choices I could have made. They took my car in without any hassles and assessed the damage in a short period of time. Due to the quick assessment they reduced the diagnostics fee. They recommended that they dry out the cylinders and run a compression check. They quoted me the cost in labor and resumed working. The next day I received a phone call from Keith, telling me the great news. My car had survived and just to double check they ensured the pistons were rising to the correct height. They were also very observant of other mechanical issues and had presented me the opportunity to correct these issues while the car was in for repairs. At the very end they reviewed the actual labor time and the estimates and reduced the labor costs, yet again, to reflect actual times versus estimates. In summary Walker's Automotive has a very friendly/honest staff and is very interested in making sure you are back on the road as quick as possible. They've definitely impressed me and I will recommend them many times in the future to my friends/family. read more

Been taking all my cars here for 16 years. They've always been honest and told me I could get it done else where for cheaper like when my Acura had an air bag light on (covered by warranty). Now they do smog (gold cert) too and took on my injector modified Jeep CJ when other smog places didn't want to deal with it. Good service shops are hard to find. I've strayed a couple of times in those 16 years and always regretted it. read more

Took my Acura MDX in because smoking burning odors every time I run the air conditioning and making noises outside of the car when you run the engine. Left the car for over 24 hours no diagnostic test was done they looked at it said they couldn't figure it out and charged me $110 and sent the car home with my wife and when I called this is exactly what they said to me. Should've went to Acura!Not to be a jerk, however for $110 you should at least tell me something being that I trusted you as a mechanic to look at my car and give me an idea of what's going on! To be fair, Walkers has been great in the past however I am greatly disappointed this time. read more

I've been bringing our cars here for probably 10 years for things as basic as an oil change to more involved repairs and maintenance. We will even have our smog checks done by them. I believe the folks at Walker's are honest, courteous and their prices reasonable. We have also purchased tires from them after Aaron suggested some that were economical AND finely suited for my commuter car. Though I work in Modesto we live 40 miles away. I trust their service and work so much that I had my high mileage commuter towed there from 40 miles away. To me if was a slam-dunk to bring it to them, and no way was I going to take it any place else. We will continue to have our vehicles serviced by Walker's. These folks are great. read more

I took my vw beetle because the check engine light was on and we noticed the timing belt was loose. The code was for the camshaft position sensor, mass air flow and engine coolant temp signal too low. Sam called and asked me to replace coolant temp sensor and air pump I said ok. Then later he called and asked to replace expansion tank and engine mount. The next day he called again saying no coolant was flowing into the expansion tank and wanted to look into it and I said ok. They also replaced the timing belt and water pump. Which everything cost almost $1700. I picked up the car and drove it home and later went out to leave and started the car and it shook and the light came back on I called Sam and he said bring it back down so I did. When I got there Jim the mechanic was outside and asked me what happened? I stated I drove home and went to leave and started the are it shook and the light came back on. He then said why did you do that I was like cause I just spent almost $1700 on it to be fixed. He then took the car back to check why the light was on and it was the camshaft sensor. He stated he blew it out and something small came out. I told him I thought they had already replaced that. He said no he tested it and it was good and that I'm good to go.I drove about 6 miles to my parents and when I went to leave the light came back on and this time it wouldn't drive over 20 mph and so I called and spoke to Sam again. We had it towed in the next morning I waited all day for a phone call saying what was wrong with it and they never call so around 5pm I called and talked to Aaron he said he thinks Jim got it fixed but wanted to drive it more and he thought he said he wanted to drive my car home which upset me cause they never even asked and I had never heard of a shop doing that. The next day Sam call and said the car was ready so I got a ride and when I got there they said it would be another $158 dollars I was like for what I never got a call or anything. Of course I paid cause I wanted my car back but I will never do business again with them and if I was you I wouldn't either. I feel they try to take advantage of females also by trying to add stuff you really don't need. read more

My daughter s car was there for a repair and I called to pay over the phone... the additional lack of technology in an ever changing world is also a problem.. I was transferred to Aaron which had the personality of a snow pea.... His argumentative attitude coupled with his inability to at least sound like he was trying to help was evident right from the beginning. When picking up the car we were met by another service adviser which wasnt much better... After informing me that my car didn't pass and charging me, the tech didn't offer any explanation or advice as to why my car had failed or what to do next. After asking "why" my car didn't pass I was told that they aren't a BMW shop and don't have the right equipment to diagnose the problem. Very helpful guys, thanks. read more

My truck died the Monday before Christmas. I called Walkers Automotive after several friends of mine suggested that I try them. I had it towed to them on Tuesday morning, Christmas Eve, they said they would be closing at noon but would do their best to get the part. They called me around 9:30 am and told me that they could get the parts, an alternator, and it would be done before they close. 4 stars only because the work they used to do for me was always top notch. I don't use them anymore because they change more than dealers... Quoted me $1300 for a timing belt. Modesto Subaru and Toyota quoted only $900. Same for my moms car, an Acura TL that needed belts and bushings. She was quoted way too high, her friend at Modesto Acura gave her a deal. A few years ago when I needed work done to my 4Runner their prices were cheaper. I know they do good work though it's just expensive now. read more
