The food here was great. We came for breakfast twice the biscuits are huge and delicious. The first time I ordered a biscuit with sausage, egg, and cheese. They give you 2 sausages that's how big the biscuits are. The second time I got biscuits and gravy. They give you 2 biscuits and 2 sausages. So delicious can't wait to comeback.

0.25¢ Coffee!! Is real, and not bad tasting. Food was really good, service was nice; it wasn't the welcoming small town that we are accustomed to but they were nice. The bathroom was nice and clean. The grits were flaming hot, temperature wise, which could be good but I had to take them home because they were too hot to eat there. Their eggs were a bit too runny for our taste but we just won't order them again. The salsa was delicious. Everything else pancakes, toast, fried potatoes and biscuits were great. Our next trip going by Madisonville will definitely include a stop at Walker's Cafe.

Cute small town cafe with a nice menu of salads, sandwiches, burgers, and baskets, plus a nice daily selection of healthy options. Bonus - lunch comes with an ice cream dessert! As expected, service was great. If you're passing through and want something more than fast food, head towards main street and grab a bite.

My husband and I were visiting from Houston and we stopped here for breakfast. The place was packed but we got seated quickly. Our waitress was prompt and taking our order and she was friendly. We both ordered the huevos rancheros. The sala was fantastic- I asked for more and was quickly brought more. The beans were just ok and lacked salt. The potatoes were nice and crispy and delicious! Incredibly, the coffee was only 0.25 cents and it was very good! This is probably going to be the best you can find in Madisonville. This place is very casual and because it is so busy, it is kind of loud.

Chicken Fried burger was amazing and so were the onion rings! I finished the meal off with a strawberry shake which was perfect but really huge!!! To top it all off our server Candace was phenomenal!!! Absolutely a must visit when in Madisonville!!!

Chicken Fried Burger is a life experience all its own.

BEST freaking pancake I have had in a VERY LONG time! You'd think, how can someone mess up a pancake? Right! But there are places all over that really do! The rest of our food was equally amazing. No frills, staff is more than attentive. We got asked like five times if we would like a coffee refill. The restaurant was clean and organized. They have homemade cakes/desserts on display. It was a wonderful treat to experience this gem while we were in town for the annual Mushroom Festival.

Writing this as we are sitting in the cafe on a Saturday morning. Its busy and atmosphere is cute. So far my first impression? Disappointed. Although we were greeted and told to sit wherever The servers will not make eye contact. They completely ignore any table but the one they are serving. So after what seems like a long wait we got coffees and drinks which she dropped off and left with not a word. Ice in the drinks is weird - like they chipped off chunks from the freezer walls. After another long wait, we saw out server heading our way, thought she was coming to take the order, but no, she passed us up to take another tables order, never even looked at is as she passed either way. ,I just don't like feeling ignored. The severs are young and look a bit put out or maybe tired?? They just seem over it for today .We arrived somewhere before 10AM, food arrived at 10:30. Food was good! But overall- I wont choose to go back. read more

This place is so perfect for a small town it seems like cliche. But it is an amazing place. The owner welcomed us to town when we moved here and introduced or referred us to several folks who helped us to get established. Everything we have tried has been at least good and often amazing. They have a wide variety of breads for use in preparing your selection. Their biscuits at breakfast are the best I have had in 66 years of life! read more

Seems to be the spot for locals/regulars. We stopped by on our way to Grapevine and it's so worth the stop. The gravy on the chicken fried steak is delish. I didn't get to take pics of the other stuff we ordered Bc they were devoured too fast. Price for each dish is super reasonable. Would love to come back if we are to be in the surrounding area. read more

This was a cute place that we stopped for lunch today. My husband had the red eye burger and onion rings. The flavor and sear of the meat were both excellent, the egg was perfectly cooked and just the right amount of cheese. 5 stars! The onion rings were not hot. My Walker dip was also very good, the bun was the star of the dish. The fries were not hot. We would defiantly got back. read more

Terrible service, decent food. I was excited to try this place because the reviews were so good online! I understand restaurants get busy and there can be a lunch crowd but it took us an hour to get our food and we saw it sitting on the line for like 15 minutes by the time we got it, it was cold! Had to ask twice for a refill and they don't even use real silverware. Plastic everything so it's hard to eat anything!! read more

Stopped by on the way to Houston. Conveniently located off the hwy, in town and across from the court house. Party of 5. We ordered the normal breakfast meals... eggs, bacon, potatoes, French toast and country fried steak. Food was seasoned nicely and cooked to our liking. Friendly staff and very affordable. Thanks to the other yelp reviews we found this gem in Madisonville. It was late for a lunch on Friday when we entered. Friday in Texas is football. The waitress quickly let us know that the kitchen was going to be busy with feeding the football team and cheerleaders. Apparently the local attorneys pay for their meals. Since the kitchen was busy and anything grilled would take a while, we ordered side salads. The chipotle ranch and the ranch dressings are made in house. Very tasty! Then our waitress mentioned that we could get catfish. So we ordered the catfish. It was crispy and light. Homemade tartar sauce was perfect with the fries, catfish and hush puppies. Then the darling waitress offered ice cream for dessert. What a way to start the weekend! Follow up: My husband left his phone at the cafe (eye roll). The staff called my daughter who then called me. Fortunately, I was only 30 minutes away. read more

Genuinely friendly service. All homemade food. Blue Bell ice cream. Try the catfish. I think it's only on Fridays. Accommodated my food allergies. Take advantage of the Court House square to walk around some before you do the drive back to Dallas etc. read more

Updated: the owner followed up on this and did all she could to make things right. The food here is good and she cares about her customers. I will go back thanks to her reaching out. Just walked out .... again. We were there 10 minutes and no one came to our table. The servers were standing around talking with each other they were not busy. Stopped here for a quick dinner. Easy to get to off the highway. Old cafe/restaurant at the town square. Lots of character! Service was great, very friendly and offered great advice on what to order! We ordered a burger and sandwich. Classic burger, fully dressed. French fries were crispy. Texas toast grilled cheese- can never go wrong! Golden crisp toast! The food was greasy spoon. Bacon was precooked. Eggs were not cooked to order. Pancake bland, with no flavor. The saving grace was the butter and syrup - the syrup was very good, it tasted homemade. Worst part was the place looks and feels dirty. read more

For folks travelling up the I-45 corridor between Houston and Dallas they should surely consider driving a few miles into the quaint town of Madisonville and sampling the fare, which Walker's offers. I-45 construction was a mess, and we detoured through Madisonville to escape the congestion. We are glad we did, and will likely plan this as a normal route to/from Houston in the future whenever Walkers will be open when we drive through. This is the kind of small town cafe you see in Norman Rockwell paintings, except it is still very much a lively social hub in Madisonville. You will see the area ranchers, farmers, school staff and prison staff congregate here for their breakfasts and lunches, and the weekly Friday dinner. The town judge is on first-name basis with the restaurant staff and owners, we met him while having a Saturday lunch. The food is carefully prepared, fresh, and generously portioned. Prices are very reasonable. The in-house made potato chips are highly addictive. Much more satisfying, thick crunch than a commercially-bought chip, yet not overly greasy like you get with some house-made chips. Their hamburger, chicken salad, and Walkers dip are very popular here, we tried the hamburger with cheese, it was a hit with the children. BTW, there are lots of candy at the front counter for purchase, so that was a magnetic draw for the children while we were here. I'll try the Walkers dip next time. I had the chef's salad; it was large, and the pickles gave a satisfying sour contrast to the greens, hadn't seen that before and it was a neat twist. The staff and service were great, everything refilled efficiently even during the lunch rush. The owners were both present and hands-on, and seemed to know just about everyone who walked through the front doors. Great small town ambiance, service with a small town smile and warmth, and good food that got us out on our way and the kids with full bellies. read more

Business trip brought me to town. Saw Walkers Cafe in yhe main square and glad I did. I asked the waitress for help ordering lunch. She said the Walker dip sandwhich was featured in the Texas Journal so I tried it. And it was the best french dip sandwhich I had ever tasted. Service was great and I will be back. read more

Anyone traveling between Houston & Dallas on I45 owes themselves the gift of eating at Walkers. It's worth the few extra minutes it takes to get to the square in Madisonville. The Ruben was big enough for two! And the onion rings were some of the best we have ever eaten. The bun less red eye burger with house made pimento cheese and fried eye and side salad were to die for. And.....if you have room after the huge portions, you get a free dip of the ice cream with your lunch. No more stopping along the interstate for us. We were passing through Madisonville on our way to Galveston around 10 am on a Saturday morning. We searched yelp for a good brunch place and Walkers was at the top of the list and for good reason! The food was delicious! My husband and I had an omelette and our kids had the Belgian waffles with sausage. Everything came out quickly and the service was fantastic! read more

Holy Moly. I would travel 100 miles out of my way to have a meal here. Waitstaff is top notch, food is even better. I can't believe the DQ in town can keep it's doors open. You have to try this place out, tasting is believing. It's right on the square, old town atmosphere. Had the Red Eye burger, came with some ice cream that tasted as homemade as it gets. I will have to make it a point to come and hit all of their daily specials. As icing on the cake these guys cater, unbelievable! read more

I've visited this place twice. Once for lunch, and once for breakfast. The first time was for breakfast. It was towards the end of the breakfast serving time and options were limited. I had some oatmeal with the blueberries. The oatmeal could of used a lot more cooking. The oats were tough to chew. The blueberries really didn't complement the oatmeal. Maybe they should try some dried fruit. The lunch was great. I had a bacon cheeseburger and onion rings. Excellent!! read more

First, the service was excellent, I believe our server was named Presley. Very kind, always checking on us and keeping our water and tea full. On the buffet, my dad enjoyed the salad he had, but was surprised at the little variety offered that day. He said last time he was there with my brother there was more to choose from. He then got the fried chicken, which was greasy and barely any chicken on the thigh. I tried to find a drumstick but it was just breasts, thighs and a few wings. He did like the chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes. As for the fried okra, you have to eat it fresh. It is sitting under a heat lamp just makes it soggy and slimy. I ordered 4 vegetables a la carte which came out to be as much as the all you can eat buffet. First, their onion rings are OUTSTANDING! So is their homemade ranch. What was disappointing was the green beans, they definitely came out of a can and were heated. At $3.99 I expected fresh. There may have been a small piece of onion in it. Not sure if that was how it was cooked or if it fell in from another dish. The black-eyed peas were tasty. I also had a cup of the chicken corn chowder which was good. However, there was pieces of cubed chicken in it which also made me think that it was a prepackaged soup and not homemade. My dad got the coconut cream pie, which tasted good, but could have used more coconut then just on the top. He wanted bread pudding or peach cobbler, however at the time of day we were there, they had been picked over way too much, not leaving much for anyone else to enjoy. I did like the selections in the gift shop and purchased a tea towel before we left. I always like to try a place 3 times so I may stop in and try something else. Again, great customer service.

The Brussels sprouts were split and grilled, simply done with a bit of butter and salt--nothing fancy, but solid. The mashed potatoes? A perfect base for the white gravy, which was the standout on the plate. The chicken fried steak itself had well-seasoned breading, but I wish the meat had been more tender. That said, the gravy was so good it honestly deserves to be bottled and sold at H-E-B. Because when you have already committed to overeating why stop, i tried the peach cobbler dessert. I should have stopped, this was terrible, it looked like someone dumped a can of peaches in syrup over raw dough...it tasted just the same. She didn't even finish getting our order...the customers that were in front of her. Someone else saw and she ended up finishing up our order and ringing us up so we could continue on with our journey.

This was a cute cafe. They have small joint very hometown. You could tell this was the place where the locals ate lunch. You could see them come in one by one and find their table and friends. We just sat back and watched the people. You saw cowboys with spurs, men with ties on, teachers ( local school colors gave them away) lots of old men talking and eating. They had a lunch special for the day, meatloaf it looked very good however our waitress said if we had never had one of the burgers then that was what we needed to order! WOW!!!!!! you could taste the meat the buns were toasted it was perfect! Then to top it off we were offered free ice cream! Blue Bell! Who does that? The service was good they were very busy we did not mind the wait we could people watch longer... There was a rancher, the lawyer, teacher i even think there was a judge( we were right across from the court house), The only reason I did not give them all 5 stars was the bath room. Small very out dated ( or vintage they like to call it!) I cant wait to go back and look at more samll town people. read more

when we were there a few years back, someone new had just purchased it and there was this weird looking and weirder acting woman with a fake British accent ALWAYS around and ALWAYS talking about how awful and unimpressive Texas was, and how her daughter could have married a pier instead of the common trash she ended up with or some such kind of crap. we complained because the UK sucks SO hard on SO many levels, and we were tired of listening to the OLD Ho, but were told they couldn't shut her up because she was related to the owner. we definitely haven't been back. read more
