It has weathered storms, change of owners, and renovations and now stands as an elite Marriott owned hotel on the Seawall of Galveston. The hotel retains its beautiful early century charm and luster. It is a go-to destination for vacations and weddings. We recently stayed there for a long vacation for my birthday. The hotel we beautiful and the staff accommodating. This is an upscale resort with a dress code that matches it's exquisite interior. Our room and bed was beautiful and comfortable. I slept well!! The pool was my favorite part. The long lap pool was large enough to for all the guest there without crowding and the swim up bar was a welcome convenience. The bar staff were accommodating and friendly. We spent most of two days at the pool. We wanted to stay for brunch the Sunday we left but we were so stuffed from eating out so much that we just couldn't eat anymore. We live a few hours away so we will be back over and over for weekend getaways on the coast. It's an affordable luxury with beautiful scenery.

There was zero communication from the hotel about the AC situation until I reached out to Marriot customer service that evening and was "graciously" given a $195.00 credit...less than the cost of a night at the hotel. Also, after waiting at the bar (since I couldn't use my room) while 3 or 4 people who walked up after me were served, I got the snotty rejoinder, "oh, I didn't see you." I didn't realize that I was temporarily invisible. Finally, and this is just a matter of taste, get rid of the antique cars scattered throughout the lobby. They completely detract from what should be a clean-lined Spanish revival/deco feel. I've been coming to this hotel for more than 30 years. Never have I seen it so poorly managed. This is I believe my second ever bad review, but I had to call this nonsense out.

For my entree I ordered the avocado toast both days because it was just that good. For my husband's entree he ordered the risotto and added shrimp. It was good but he could do without the tomato sauce. And his old fashioned was made just right which for us is always the tell of a serious bar. Thank you, Bartender. Today we were greeted as soon as we walked in but yesterday we stood waiting for someone to greet us. And then we were told it was going to be a 10-15 minute wait for our table. I told her we'll wait because I'm sure it won't take 15 minutes to prepare one of the four empty tables that simply needed cleaning. It took them 2 minutes to seat us. Our dining experience was lovely. On both days we got Brian for our waiter and he was friendly and efficient, and the food was excellent.

So the day of our wedding the weather was 90% rain Miss Kelly kept a very watchful eye on the weather and our ceremony was done without any rain then it poured down and she was on top of getting everything in order moving to tables clearing out the water. The place is well kept and the bathrooms were more like a home bathroom in a good way- than a public bathroom. We had plenty of space to eat/dance and stand around and the kiddos had fun with the huge grassy areas. They have a music system we connected our ipod to and the speakers pumping. I believe the goal is to sell it to a group to further sailing education and participation which is really cool. Great staff.

November 21, 2021…read more AWESOME EXPERIENCE with Captain Clement Jardin!! In honor of my 60th BD on the 23rd...we, "just sit right back and you'll hear a tale...a tale" of 3 gals on the bayou!!! (gilligan's island song reference) The three of us had the best time...Sunday FUNday! It was predicted to be a 40-80% chance of rain ...BUTT, not today Satan...the weather was perfect...hardly any clouds, 75 out and a decent wind...Capt Clement was patient, friendly and informative. I was the captain for about an hour...then I asked my friend to take over...she hesitantly did! We were on a 30 foot sailboat called, "the lift off!" It had plenty of space to sit. While on the water we met several other sailors/captains that Clement knew and we got to talk to from afloat. This outing cost $50 each and we were sailing in Offatt's bayou for 2 hours (maximum is 3 hours but, we all had to pee, so we lost an hour...old bitty's!!! LOL!) All in all, it was a FANTASTIC experience ...very zen. Get this...one friend aboard hadn't been on (any) kind of boat in 38 years (she had been involved in a near fatal boat crash at 14) and today, was the day she conquered that fear of water-crafts. We all learned a lot from Captain Jardin and about ourselves.
