I first looked into Walkers Pet Ho Tail after we "tried" to get our dog Bella, who is a rescue, groomed at a local PetSmart. Being a rescue dog you can't be absolutely sure what happened to her, except we know she was not treated well. Being armed with this we told the groomers that she may get irritated. Well she did, and they were not super helpful in coming up with a solution. I recommended using a muzzle and they refused. Seemed to me that that's not a very good practice and should be used for both the dog and the groomers safety if a dog is upset. What that left us was a half groomed dog. I called Walkers to find out how they handle dogs who aren't super excited about spa days and was told they handle a lot of irritable dogs and rescue animals. I asked about the muzzle and they said they do use them which relieved me as the other groomers kept saying she was trying to bite the clippers. They charge roughly $65.00 but that is for the works, bath, cut, teeth, nails, ECT. They do require a $30 deposit when booking simply because they have had their share of no shows. Bella has now been to their groomers a few times. She is still difficult to groom and they have asked us to have her vet prescribe something to calm her down. Even after giving her, what in essence was Xanax, she was still irritable per the groomer on her last visit, but she sure was happy when it was over! I am overall satisfied with our visits. We just boarded our standard poodle here for the first time ever and being boarded. The staff is great and they took good care of him. They returned all of our toys and things back up exit. It was his first time really ever being with other dogs and they said he made a few friends and he also kept his area clean at night. That was good news for us to hear because he is always in a crate at home but we want to eventually have him not in one. He is still a puppy. I wish I could give Walker's ten stars. We had a long and complicated cross-country move and kept our two geriatric cats at Walker's during the process. They truly treated our cats like their own. They ordered their specialty prescription cat food, administered their daily medication, fit them into the grooming schedule and helped coordinate our cats' transport out to our new home, which involved a special vet appointment for cross state travel. Our cats arrived healthy and happy; which was no easy feat for two crotchety old lady felines. We love Walker's. We will always love Walker's. Thank you so much for everything. read more

I have a 14 week shichon cute as can be and im very OCD. I was impressed with Walkers, sam came out to get her From the first day I spoke with him he is very kind and you can tell he loves each and every pet he cares for like they are is own. My pebbles is an ESA and she is training to be a therapy dog but even though we have 3 other dogs home she needed dog socialization. Today was her first day checked in 3 times I was completely impressed answered my calls in details everytime I checked in. Im very happy after only 1 day we will be going back every Monday and Friday I wouldn't recommend anyone else with my baby. As we all feel the same they are the most important thing in our lives and at walkers hotel they get that and love them. Its also very personal. We have used Walkers for both boarding and vet services for our cats and have been extremely happy with everything. Our fist interaction with them was when we were looking for a location to board the cats while we were away for the wedding. Having driven past Walkers on several occasions, I called and asked about their cat boarding. They were extremely friendly and encouraged us to drop in for a tour before making a decision. In general, when a place does not require you to make an appointment for a tour you know that the are likely a good location since they don't "tidy up" knowing a potential guest is coming. The staff was extremely friendly and it was very easy to book the time for the cats. We had the option of boarding them together or separate and also had the option of bringing your own food and treats or Walker's supplying them. They do require your animal's records before you can board, so make sure you have those handy if you are trying to book. We were pleased with their boarding services, so we thought about trying their vet care. Dr. Tucker is amazing with the animals. Our cat Brahma is not exactly fond of going to the vet (what cat is) but she did extremely well with Dr. Tucker. He is gentle with the animals and very reasonable. He also doesn't push vaccines that aren't needed for indoor cats. Check for coupons, too. There is usually one for half off of your first vet's visit. They also have a small shopping area with food, treats, toys and accessories for both dogs and cats. I highly recommend Walkers for both their boarding and their vet services. read more

I previously used a daycare and board facility in Monroeville, but for personal reasons, I've started using Walkers Pet Ho Tail. I'm impressed with the amount of staff they employ to take care of the animals. They also have a vet on call in case of emergency, and a grooming facility in house. They genuinely love the dogs, in fact, one of the employees made a tic toc video with Olivia. I boarded her for a week and she came home happy healthy and exhausted. I moved to Murrysville for a year-long project assignment at work, and I was delighted to find Walkers Pet HoTail right down the street from my apartment. My dog Lila is by no means high energy, but I don't have a yard and wanted a place for her to play with other dogs on occasion, so I bought a daycare package from Walkers. They were very generous and allowed me to drop her off 15 minutes before they opened due to my work schedule, and they were always very sweet with Lila. They are also very thorough about vet records, which I appreciated - they require vaccination records directly from your vet, and follow up when their paperwork indicates that your dog's vaccines need to be renewed (this reduces the risk of canine flu, kennel cough, etc. spreading throughout the kennel). Their grooming is also very affordable compared to other prices I found in the area. I bought the daycare package because the number of weeks matched perfectly with my assignment in Pittsburgh, but when my dog needed surgery on her leg and would have to be essentially immobile for 8+ weeks, they were very kind and refunded me the remainder of the package I purchased. I liked the fact that my pet was not in a crate but, in her own room and I initially felt this was going to be a great place. Not only that, but when the worker initially handed her to me, her entire head appeared wet but, not dripping wet. The person told me that "she must have just been outside" and when I said that her paws were dry he then said that "she must have put her head in their pool"! She never would have been near their pool since she is afraid of water and they knew that. So, then he said "she must have put her head in her water bowl"! Again, never would have dunked her ENTIRE head in any water! He did bring me out a towel to dry her off but, it didn't seem to make a difference and I thought nothing more about it. However, when was on my way home, I found stool matted into her hair!! Not just in the back near her anal area but literally on HER BACK! I called and spoke to a manager who promised to call me back after she review the tapes but, she never did. She also offered a free bath but, I had already washed her back end. Later that evening my dog's head still looked "wet" and was sticky. (I had avoided her head when bathing since it was already "wet" and she hates having her head and face wet). After I rubbed her head, I was appalled to realize it was dried URINE that was all over her head!! They allowed another dog to urinate on her head!! I was disgusted and had to bathe my dog again. I never did here back from the manager and would never recommend this place to any other dog owner. One only wonders what else occurred with my dog or other dogs that stay there!!! read more

Our 17 month old pup has been going to Walkers for daycare for 1 year now and she absolutely loves it! We love it because she gets so much exercise in a well organized play area with the other dogs and she always comes home relaxed and tired. We recently took her for overnight boarding for 1 week and we had never left her overnight so we were nervous. However, it was obvious that she was well taken care of and adjusted well because when I took her back for daycare she was pulling me in the door with no hesitation. That was a sure sign that she enjoys her time there because she can have her moments of being timid in certain situations. We love that everyone knows her name when she comes in the door. Just brought our 7month old pup home from a week at the Pet HoTail. We drove a half hour out of the way to have her stay here. She is happy, healthy, and tuckered out! Yikes. The management is not good here. I actually know the manager and thought better of her before my sister started working there. Turned out that the place may take care of your pets (I didn't board my cat there because the cat "rooms" are like tiny cages) but behind the scenes they do not treat employees well. Be careful if you work here because sustaining an injury means getting fired. My sister got back from the hospital with a note saying she couldn't work for a few days due to an injury and they told her that she's fired because of it. She was devastated having formed relationships with the pets and patrons, but for fear of worsening her injury she went with the doctors orders and said goodbye. read more

My cat needed groomed. Their website describes what is included in a Full Groom (which includes a bath). I called to confirm those services and inquired about a price for a med sized, long hair cat with some matting. Was quoted $50-$60 depending on how bad the matting is. That was fine. I then explained that my cat hates baths (which most do) and was upfront to let them know that my cat gets very aggressive. They suggested to bring her in to see their vet (Dr Tucker) to be looked over and to get sedation meds for her. Made appointment for the grooming...she was sedated but still gave them a rough time during groom so they tacked on a $10 handling fee (even though there was no mention of that possibility on website or when I spoke to them on phone). The handling fee, I totally get and didn't mind paying because I know how aggressive my cat can get. What didn't set well with me was when I learned that she didn't even get bathed, because the groomer didn't want to stress her out anymore. Total on my bill states Full Groom $50 and Handling fee $10. So my cat didn't get a bath, and got charged $10 more. I wouldn't have minded the extra fee if my cat had received her bath. I think the charges would have evened out in the end..just left a bad taste in mouth when businesses can't see the fairness. Not to mention my cat looks butchered and unfinished. Took my bull dog puppy this past weekend to get groomed, when I picked him up he was still wet, didn't smell clean, now 2 days later he has a skin infection from not being dried off. I do not recommend taking your pups here, I know I will not be back. read more

Took my dog Joey for the first time to Walkers Pet Hotail for a 9 day stay. When we pick Joey up, as we drove home I notice he was having difficulty keeping his right eye opened. Upon examining his eye I discovered blood in the white of his eye. He is a Shih tzu so you have to pull his lid open to see the white. I immediately took him to our vet the following morning. He was diagnosed with an ulcerated cornea. The vet said it is cause by a scratch or poke to the cornea. I called Walkers the same day and talked to an associate. She said she would give the message to the manager. No one ever called me back. After 7 phone calls and 2 and a half weeks later someone finally was willing to speak with me. I spoke with Sam, and he gave me several examples of other dogs who had problems that could be caused by even hair in his eye, and basically can't prove how the injury may have happened. Of course you can't prove how the injury happened,however it happen on their watch. I did not ask for the 300 dollars back for 9 days of boarding, but I did expected to be compensated for 115 dollars for meds, the dog had to wear a cone, and several weeks of administered meds. The Vet said it would take several weeks, even months to heal and to watch closely for any sign of infection because if not care for properly, he could loose his eye. After going back and forth for 20 minutes, Sam reluctantly agreed to give me 115 dollars towards my next visit. REALLY, MY NEXT VISIT, that's never going to happen. SHAME ON THEM, for being so unprofessional and disrespectful to me and uncaring to "Joey". read more

What I was offered was 30 dollars towards a service at THEIR grooming salon. Right. I would take my dog who was injured there back to them. The rebuttal left out of her comments that when she brought my dog back to me she said she noticed some blood. That she nipped him or a tooth was loose. HUH? They also let my dog be groomed without being up to date on his shots. There was an error with the vet and Walker's was well aware that he needed his distemper. Facts are Facts. My dog went into Walker's seeing fine with no irritation and came out with an ulcer on his cornea and unable to open his eyes. Is it really worth taking your pet there, especially when they make up all kinds of excuses? My friends and neighbors don't think so!!!! read more

We have used Walkers for many years using their Doggie Day Care service. Our White American Shepherd, Casper loved it there. When we got another over active shepherd, Jada, we took her there as well. She also loves to go. She waits by the door every day to see if 'today is the day' to go and play at Walkers! She always comes home tired and happy after a full day there. Once, in a bad winter storm, I called and told Sam (the owner) that I might be late because of the bad weather and slow traffic. He told me not to worry, take my time, and no matter how late I arrived, he would wait for me to get there! They have always been very kind and taken great care of my dogs! We began taking our dogs here when we got a puppy. Our other older dog needed to overcome anxiety. They did such a nice job helping our older dog become less anxious. They listened to our concerns and kept the two dogs together. Walkers offers play all day and interval day care. Both stared in interval. They get more breaks and a smaller play group. They recommended that the puppy be separated after a few stays because she was driving our older dog nuts at rest time. Our puppy moved to play all day. All has worked out well for both. Our dogs know when they are going to "puppy care" and get excited. Walkers gives you a report on which dogs your dogs plays with. Our puppy was boarded recently and she was absolutely fine. I thought she would need rest after staying there three nights, but she was eager to return to puppy care the next day. They also dog and cat food which is reasonably priced. read more

This review is strictly for their grooming services. I took my six month old goldendoodle here for his first real grooming appointment. I called first and was assured they knew how to groom goldendoodles. Then I brought photos so I would be clear about what I wanted. I waited to speak with the groomer who showed up at 9:05 for our 9:00 appointment and specifically showed her photos and was told that it wouldn't be a problem. However, when I picked up my dog I wasn't even sure it was him. She had shaved his face and cut his body so short I literally didn't recognize him. I cried on the way home and when my husband called to complain we were told "all doodles look this way after they are groomed" which is totally ridiculous. There are pictures all over the internet about different facial styles and ways of cutting their faces. I really hope it grows back. I will NEVER go back here again.
