I've only taken my car to them a few times now, but each time I've had an honest and positive experience. They are efficient and hardworking people, unlike other thieving mechanics. I pulled off an exit and ended up at A & A auto repair, Wallace NC. it was very close to closing time. one of the owners, Joy, made us feel very welcome and said they would take care of us. The mechanic, Artie, tracked down a part 40 minutes away- the part was delivered and they stayed open hours past closing time to get us back on the road. wad told brakes with own parts in hand was 150$. they added 45$ unasked diagnostic. said the car has electronic brakes so extra after the fact when disengage and reengage literally takes 2-5 minutes ( that i could have and later did as proof of concept ).'shop fee' was $30+ which corresponds to over 20% of requested services quote. all in rear brakes (pads only- not rotors) factory stuff was over 400$. if 8 dabs of lithium grease /2 squirts of other calipers grease and 5 shop towels cost them 3.20 , i'll be a technicolr swamp guinea. literally cost more than dealer. it was about a hundo over charge by my estimation. + note they torqued the lugs properly which is saying something. read more

While they specialize in Honda and Acura, they will still do oil changes and state inspections on the Ford which makes it so much easier than us having to go to multiple places. They are fair, no nonsense, and very nice. I recently had to get my car inspected during COVID-19 and it was seamless. They have a no contact situation going on, like many. There is no waiting in the lobby. All you have to do is drop your car off, fill out the night drop form with what you're wanting to be done, and that's it! Can you give 0 stars? They charged me $900 to pass my car for inspection and then told me I need to go elsewhere to get it aligned because they don't have the tools to do it? Then after receiving my car, that they JUST passed inspection on, it was making a worse sound than when I dropped it off. After speaking with Daniel he told me to bring it back and after they took a second look at it they came out and said "they don't know how they missed this but it's not safe to drive but not to worry, they won't revoke my inspection." First round they replaced the rear wheel bearing and now they're saying it's the front wheel bearing which will take another $680 to fix. Take your car for second opinions if you bring your car to Wallace Automotive and they fail you for inspection. They will pass unsafe cars and then try to get more money out of you. read more

This company attempted to scam us out of over $700. My husband brought my car in for an inspection and Wallace Automotive wanted to charge over $700(!!) to replace both of the fog light assemblies in order to pass inspection. It also needed one wiper blade replaced. Wallace technicians said the parts had to be special ordered and it would take a few days, and that there was no way the car would pass inspection without the fog lights being operable. I had them place a rejection sticker, brought it home and my husband put in two new light bulbs (at a cost of $45) and a new wiper blade. The replacement of the bulbs just involved taking off the respective side's front tire and then a small portion of the plastic shield to access the fog light housing - both took less than 10 minutes apiece to replace. The diffuser shield on one side also needed to be reattached. They work just fine with no issues. We took the car to another mechanic and the car passed inspection with no problems, even when we asked them to check out the fog lights particularly. I had an issue with the brakes in my 2002 Toyota van for a couple of years. One shop did work on it twice and it didn't fix the issue. Another shop diagnosed the problem as a faulty ABS control module but refused to do the repair due to the part being discontinued and they were unwilling to install a used part. The second shop even accused me of lying to them about the problem, and had kind of an attitude, which was bizarre. Why would anyone do that? I called Wallace Automotive and they told me the website I could find a used part and said they would be willing to install it. I found the part and took the van and the part to Wallace and they had it installed in only four hours! I was expecting them to only replace the module, but they also installed the pump that was attached to the used module. And they did all that work for only 3 Benjamins! I have never had a shop complete work this fast, nor been so helpful in finding a part. The shop floor was immaculately clean and the staff was extremely good mannered and helpful. This week, we once again were well cared for at Wallace Automotive when we brought them our Honda Odyssey for a significant preventative maintenance service inside the engine. In addition to performing all of the work in one day, they changed the timing belt inside the engine, replaced an inexpensive seal on the power steering pump (instead of the whole pump, which a less than honest shop would do) and found a suspension issue we hadn't reported to them, that after discussing the issue and the charges for it we opted to have them do that repair also. However, the greatest compliment I can give them is that I trust them to not take advantage of the situation and to give solid advice on how to precede with needed repairs. This is a VERY expensive and given the age and the mileage I decided not to spend the big bucks and just suffer. Fast forward a year, car is still plugging along, but the humidity and heat is coming. I brought it to Wallace for one more repair quote and low and behold it wasn't the compressor at all, but all they had to do was replace and adjust the shims. WOW! (45 minutes, although I think they got it done sooner) The waiting room was full but really clean, decorated nicely for an auto shop and it smelled good in there! While heading home from Williamsburg to Charlottesville on I64 in the middle of night, our 2009 Honda Accord's check engine light started flashing. We pulled the vehicle over to the side the road and could immediately tell we had an engine misfire issue, something that is not recommended to drive with. We found a hotel for the night and slowly made our way there. We did some research and found Wallace Automotive at the top of the list as far as Yelp reviews. We ultimately decided that it should probably go to a Honda dealership. The next morning we contacted West Broad Honda and pleaded for them to help us figure out what was wrong with the car. They told us they did not have time as they were extremely busy. We contacted Wallace Automotive and was greeted with enthusiasm and desire to help. Without hesitation, we were told to bring the car to them and they would help. Within 15 minutes they had the car in the shop and started diagnosing the problem. They diagnosed for about 45 minutes before telling us that they did not have the computer components necessary to upgrade the ECU on our car. They also said the car was low a quart of oil. They recommended the car go to a Honda dealership to have the ECU software updated. We told them that they previously turned us away and William without hesitation said he would call and try to get us in. Within 5 minutes West Broad Honda was able to take us. Wallace Automotive employees spent 45 minutes diagnosing the car's problem as well as added a quart of oil at no charge to us. They were very friendly and pleasant to deal with. This is the opposite of what I typically see in a car repair shop. If I find myself stranded again in Richmond, they will be the first I call. Very highly recommended! SInce moving to Richmond I have been taking my 97 Toyota (with 240000 northeast miles on it) to a neighborhood Exxon shop which shall remain nameless. I could never get the car out of there for less than $200, even if I just went in for an oil change. Based on the Yelp reviews I thought I would try Wallace. The woman in front of me brought her car in because it had failed an inspection. Wallace told her that the item in question could use some work but that it was not fail-able by any means. Wait wait - you are not going to try to drag her over the coals and do the repair at a highly inflated labor cost? Interesting. On to Nellybelle (yes, my car has a name). The verdict was that for the number of miles she was in remarkably good shape, they had topped off fluids but no work needed to be done. Wheww whoo! Two days later, start the car and massive noise. I called Wallace and asked if I could have it looked at again, free of charge considering I had just been in there and gotten a clean bill of health. FB didn't want me to take the car back there because he was suspicious of the timing of the new issue. Turns out we need a new flex pipe but Wallace doesn't do exhaust work. They recommended another place that does and did not charge me for the diagnostics. So far, I'm a fan. We'll see what happens we bring the stupid Volvo in. read more

I made an appointment to take my old Civic in because the check engine light came on and it had been idling roughly at starts and stops. The gentleman (owner?) told me they couldn't find a problem, that there was likely just moisture in the tank and to pour in some dry-out treatment and fill up with higher octane gas a few times. NO charge! Being it's a 14 yr old car, they could've easily stuck me with some bogus diagnosis and I'd have probably taken their word.
