This place is an institution in southwest Cobb (Austell). The same people have been coming here for years, and I consider myself something of a regular, even if I only go once every month or so. Not fancy at all, but great service, and the food is brought to you very fast. I usually get the Pork Thrift Plate with the pork sandwich, a baked potato (an upgrade option vs french fries or onion rings), and side salad with thousand island dressing. I don't know how they make the thousand island dressing, but it is better than in any four and five star restaurant. You have to note though that the salad is very plain with lettuce and not much else. The dressing makes up for that. The pork sandwich is pretty good. I have had better bbq elsewhere in my travels, but the sandwich still hits the spot. I usually pass on the fries and onion rings just because I like a baked potato better. But both are solid choices, though a bit on the greasy side. All in all, one of the best values to be found anywhere. Good food, good service, friendly staff, great prices. Best BBQ around staff is super friendly good size portions for the price. Scott and Mark are great people that interact with their customers from just walking by the tables saying hello making sure everything is good to fixing a problem if you have one. Great down home southern hospitality and finger-licking good BBQ at an absolutely steal of a price! Tasted the beef and stew plate: beef was tender, juicy and had great flavor. If you like strong BBQ flavor then you'll need to dip it a bit in sauce but for me it was right on. The stew was delicious as well. Great flavor and consistency. I had the fries as my side. Love hand cut skin-on fries. They were fried to just the right consistency and seasoned well. Girlfriend had the rib plate. As big a portion of ribs as I could imagine for $10 with meat just falling off the bone! Yum. She had the sweet potato and liked it though would have liked to have been warned about cinnamon being added on (we're new to the area so maybe that's a known for locals). We drank water and so the bill was like $18...ridiculously cheap. The only off thing is being served plain cheap hamburger buns as your bread. They've been making bbq here the same way since Truman was president. That much practice oughta be bout perfect by now. It nelly is too. Solid bark and smoke ring on the pulled pork makes for a dandy sammywich. Plates of ribs walked by in piles. Portions are large. Service is agreeable but you could feel a preponderance if more being given regular customers. I didn't measure it but I'd mark it at about two mile or better the distance you could smell the bbq before you say grace. Cars seem to speed up closing the distance too. Stew is sumptuous thick with meat. Beans is beans and slaw is slaw. If two men were arguing about the bulldogs and the yellow jackets they could come here and stop long enough to eat and act like friends. I really liked everything about this place, which I don't say or review very often. We came around 7:30 on a Wednesday night and the place was still pretty busy with many large parties. I am from Buffalo, New York so I couldn't help but try their buffalo wings. I also got an order of onion rings. My date ordered the pork and stew plate, which came with fries. The waitress was prompt and kind despite the hectic atmosphere. The food didn't take long to arrive. I have been away from Buffalo for two years (mainly staying in St Louis) and these were the best wings I have had since leaving. They were perfect crispy to sauce ratio, and they even served it with chunky bleu cheese. The waitress threw in four of the pit style wings, which I would actually go back to order, I liked them that much. They were smoked and incredibly tender. The onion rings were the large homemade kind. I had some of my boyfriend's pulled pork and it was very good. The style of BBQ this place does might not be for everyone, but I really like it. Their sauce has a very strong mustard and vinegar flavor, which isn't what I traditionally think of when it comes to BBQ. But this is definitely the type of place I want to come back and try everything on the menu-- I'll be back. read more

There is nothing fancy about this place but the food is consistently delicious and they are often packed. I've had the pulled pork and the beef brisket here. If you choose the brisket I recommend asking for an inside cut as it is less fatty. They will also toast your bun for you but you have to ask for it. The service is the only reason I haven't given them 5 stars because it is really hit or miss. Often the service is warm, friendly and attentive but it can vary from great to really bad depending on which server you end up with. Something to note: they are family owned and close down for a few weeks each December and over the summer so the whole staff can take vacation so call before you go during these times. read more

I love this place! Their pulled pork is awesome; fries are also yummy. Brunswick stew is also good. My boyfriend loves their chili burgers! Their barbecue sauce is vinegar based... which was bizarre when I went here for the first time since I had never seen that kind of sauce before, but it turned out to be really good! Service is always fast and friendly. Even when they are busy, they get people in an out pretty quickly. We don't have to wait too long to be seated, to have our order taken and to receive our order. A friend encouraged my wife and I to try Wallace Barbecue, because our friend knew of my love for good barbecue, specifically ribs and brisket. After arriving, the greeter and server were very friendly and in no time we were seated. As I looked through the menu, I immediately started to worry. I asked the server where was brisket noted on their menu. I was informed that they didn't serve brisket. I should have known then, but I tried to hang in there, so I then asked about their ribs, and the server stated, they only had baby back ribs. I'm now thinking let me just try their ribs. My wife was disappointed that she couldn't order a brisket sandwich on bun. So the server suggested, a beef sandwich that resemble a pot roast sandwich. We both responded at a barbecue restaurant. To my surprise, the two meals came out and the ribs and pot-roast were wet-like and falling apart like they came out of a pressure cooker or boiled. Neither meals had any barbecue smoke taste what so ever, and obviously absolutely no smoke rings were on their meats. If that wasn't bad enough, then the server placed what she called barbecue sauce on the table, it was no traditional barbecue sauce that I had ever experienced. Their barbecue sauce resembled meat juice, oil, mixed with I assume some type of ketchup base. It was terrible!! However, one positive note, the two meats were extremely tender and falling apart. The ribs that came to the table didn't look appealing at all. I will admit that there appeared to be folks dining, who seemed to be enjoying their meals. I would recommend visiting the resturant's website before visiting or acting on a friend's recommendation. Fifteen minutes after arriving, we left both meals on the table, and paid our bill. We exited and went to another restaurant to eat dinner, it was an expensive night out. I would encourage folks to look at the website pics to get a better idea of what your experience will be like. The parking lot was PACKED at 11:45 on a Tuesday.....and the parking lot is GINORMOUS. Once inside, it's HUGE and also slam packed. Surely, this place has to have mind blowing BBQ right? No. I ordered the Pork Thrift Plate (sandwich, fries and slaw). First important thing to know is the bbq sauce is vinegar based and bland. The meat itself really lacked that good smoked flavor or any flavor at all....and really needed more bbq sauce. There was none on the table. The fries were fresh cut and awesome and the slaw was REALLY good, too. Also at our table, we had ribs....again, where's the smoke flavor? It's almost like they were boiled first then thrown on some fire to finish up. The brunswick stew was like everything was thrown together and put in a food processor. I was soupy, orange and weird. The service was great. The servers, super nice and on point, even with how insanely packed the place was. The food wasn't bad, but I expected more. First, they don't have pulled chicken. The lady working the register said "we don't do pulled chicken, you gotta pull it yourself." I'm thinking "what, where they do that at? But ok, fine, I'll have the grilled chicken". Second, you can't get just dark meat. The lady was like, "you'll get a half. " I learned this is not the place where you can have it your way. The bbq sauce is like water and has such a strong vinegar taste. I don't like it. I had to pour it off at home and put some sweet baby rays on my chicken. The chicken was good after all that work and the fries were good. I remember this place as a child when I lived most of my life in Austell, GA. In the 80's and 90's. I loved their BBQ so much as a child, I remember my grandparents would buy their BBQ Pork or Beef by the case, not sure if they do that any more. Times where different. I am bring my wife back to my home town next year and one of very first places we are stopping is Wallace. We tried Wallace BBQ because the parking lot is always packed when we drive by. There were high expectations which were not met at all. I had the ribs. They didn't taste smoked at all and the sauce had waaaaayy too much vinegar. My husband had the chopped steak. I think it was frozen as it had that pre-formed look about it. We've been coming here for about 30 years now. Hands down one of the top BBQ restaurants that we've ever found. We are huge BBQ fans and this is the place that we compare all others against anytime we take in another BBQ restaurant in our travels around the metro Atlanta area and when we travel out of state. Found a couple just as good but none ever have been better. Their Pork Plate is amazing. It contains the leanest BBQ you can find. You just never get a bad piece of meet here. Their vinegar based sauce is always a perfect pairing. If you're a blue cheese dressing fan then this is the place for you. I always get a salad just to experience the blue cheese dressing. Best ever!! I could rave about this place for days but, the best thing of all is how reasonably priced their food is. It's nearly impossible to get the combination of an incredible meal at a VERY affordable price. Well, this place does both. I have been wow'd by Wallace's. I'm always on the lookout for a great bbq place and this is definitely one of the top five in my book. Oh, and it's very clean. Anyhoo, I ordered the pulled pork thrift plate with slaw, a side of fries, and sweet tea (seeing a pattern yet?). It. Was. Gooood. The barbecue sauce was yummy and did not leave me hanging (hangin? Ah well). And I am definitely selective when it comes to slaw because I've had some really bad slaw before and you can go really, really wrong. But not here! I will even recommend the slaw. The fries were even really tasty. And yes, the sweet tea was excellent. All for $5.35 + drink? Heck yeah! It's hard to find places where you get quality for a decent price (or perhaps a steal, in this girl's mind. I've gotten the same thing other places and it isn't as good and I've easily paid $11.95. This is my BBQ restaurant of choice in the Atlanta metro area. I drive out to Wallace every now and then (since it's a bit of a haul from in town), but it's always worth it. They offer mostly vinegar-based sauces, including a very spicy sauce that can be bought separately in bottles for home cookin'. I'm a huge fan of their pulled pork, which comes in big juicy pieces (rather than chopped and dry, as many BBQ places tend to serve it), highlighting the sauce's flavor. They've also got great Brunswick stew. One important note: they're closed on Sundays and in the days/week surrounding major holidays. It's best to give them a call if you're driving a long distance to eat there to make sure they will be open. read more

Not sure where all the raving reviews came from. Our experience was not that great. It started with a waitress who must have never worked tables. She forgot half our order, forgot to bring a knife out with my steak, then forgot that she had to get me a knife. The drinks are refilled with a half full glass that looks like it may have come from another table. Our waitress refilled my wife's sweet tea with regular tea and my coke with something that wasn't coke. Pretty painful experience. I tried to look beyond the waitress. The food was just ok. Didn't taste like they were pulling the bbq right out of the smoker. My guess is hours before and it was sitting in a pan. Salad was good, potato boring. Steak better than it should have been for the very reasonable price and the 10 minutes it sat on my plate waiting for a knife. I give it 2 stars because it isn't 100% the fault of the restaurant when they hire someone new. AND, the hard working guy seating everyone really wanted us to like it. He must be an owner (or the best employee they will ever have). He brought a negative 1 star up to a 2 star review. Again, decent place with average bbq and one bad waitress. read more
