This place is terrible. I'm sorry. Spent about $80 (take out) for 3 people. The heavy set lady up front (in the takeout) section said the cornbread was good. Naturally, I took her word for it because... Got home and it was super dry and tasteless. The pulled pork was dry, the brisket was dry and tasteless, and the sides weren't good either. Ended up chucking the food. I have 5 dogs and didn't even give them the food. We and they deserve better. This is the only BBQ spot that you can't smell from the outside. Hudson's is an integral piece of Douglasville history. The barbecue is fantastic, the sauce makes it even better and the sides are great; especially the fried okra, Cole slaw and fried pies. Stopped by yesterday to pick up some new found favorites on their menu. The restaurant is being remodeled, and they are currently running out of the food truck parked in front of restaurant. My wife got chicken wing and fries and they were some of the best chicken wings around very large in size and a great flavor. The french fries are amazing as well with large portions, I got the Buford burger and hands-down it beats any fast food restaurant. And is better than most specialty burger restaurants as well. Had not been in 15 years, so with everyone talking about it with the new renovations, had to try it again. The parking lot a mess, so loud in there that you can't even here the waitstaff or your table group. Brunswick stew... had a burnt taste, baked beans were bland and tasted like a canned beans with some meat thrown in. onion rings were horrible.. The beef brisket was cold. The only thinfgworth eating were the French Frys. Order the Frys on take out and go home and have them with something that you made. Hudson's closed for about 4 months due to renovation, it reopened in February we went on February 14. it looked different due to renovations but they still did not repair the parking lot which is very risky especially for wheelchair patrons. while the menu has not really changed but the quality has. I ordered the hamburger steak with onions and was charged an additional 2.00 for grilled onions which were small diced onions very disappointing. Everyone else with us ordered barbecue all the meals were not hot. very disappointed. Hudson's has been opened since 1971;and I have been going there since then. The food was always great and hot so we were all disappointed that the quality was not the same and the charges were a bit over the top. I really hope that they will continue to improve not only the food but the parking lot and upgrade restrooms to be handicapped friendly. read more

Tyler our server was very nice and attentive. Unfortunately the meat we got was dry but everyone was friendly and we enjoyed our time.

We got a pound of ribs with no flavor with or without the vinegary sauce being added. FYI: meat should be seasoned, even if just a little. The pulled pork sandwich, no flavor but there was a sweet taste to it. The baked today was "Awesome". Wow. I saw this place on Good Day Atlanta. Looked absolutely delish on the show when Paul was eating it. My hopes were up, but yet again I just have to accept Georgians just have no clue when it comes to what good BBQ is. I've been looking for 24 years. It makes it hard for them to meet the mark when dealing with someone like me from Kansas who knows good BBQ and is used to Gates BBQ. Anyway, I showed up BEFORE dinner time on a Saturday at Hudson's. Low budget dining room, but, anyway, I ordered the BBQ ribs. The server says, oh, sorry we're out of ribs. Out of ribs?!? A BBQ joint already out of ribs on a Saturday before dinner time even starts?!? The main dish at a BBQ restaurant is ribs, but they're already out of ribs this early?? Unbelievable. So I said, well, let me have the BBQ chicken. Server says, oh, sorry we're out of BBQ chicken. Out of BBQ chicken, too?!? And this is a BBQ restaurant?? Unbelievable. Although, I noticed the table next to me had plenty of BBQ chicken on their plate. Interesting. Anyway, so I asked for the BBQ beef. I was waiting for her to say, oh, sorry we're out of BBQ beef, too. Surprisingly they did have that. I also ordered the Junkyard Dog and the baked beans and toast. Had to pay $.25 to upgrade to that toast. Funny. So I guess the BBQ beef was supposed to be their version of BBQ brisket. It tasted just like pot roast you make in a crockpot. No smoker BBQ flavor whatsoever. The Junkyard Dog was okay. Coleslaw on it was good. Pork on it was uneventful. Baked beans and the toast were the best of all that I ate at this place. I have been eating at Hudson's with my family for as long as I can remember! The food, staff, and general environment offer a feeling of comfort that cannot be found elsewhere. My little sister ended up ordering the Hickory BBQ Mac and claimed it was DELICIOUS with a serving large enough to last her multiple days. Staff is always attentive and welcoming. I have since moved to San Antonio Texas and have tried many BBQ joints, nothing beats Hudson's! This was our first stop after the airport. I can't wait to come back! read more

First time hearing about Hudson's Hickory House. This is a older establishment but upon coming in I was greeted very friendly. The nice waitress (I think her name was Stacey) new of the recommended tries and agree those were good choices. I tried the hickory fries, Brunswick stew and two cheese burgers. The fries: I must have gotten the tail end of the last basket dropped. About time I got home in 20 minutes they were not hot. I even had some hard ones like they were cooked twice. The Brunswick stew was for my grandfather . It looks like chili to me but I will have to get his opinion on the taste. Last but not least the burgers. To be honest I found the burgers to be pretty good. It was just barely warm about time I got home but never the less pretty good. It was simple but good. I do not recommend taking out the food. Just seems like it's not going to get home hot. To give them a far assessment I would definitely have to visit during their peak hours to give them a true chance. Where do I begin... I ordered the pork plate, onion rings, baked beans, and Texas toast. Beans were ok, Texas toast was awesome and onion rings crispy, but greasy. Now let's get to the ribs. Very disappointed with what I I received. Out of my ribs I was only able to eat 3 ribs. All the other ones were broken pieces and WAY OVER COOKED!!!! They even looked over sauced to cover up the fact they were dry. It's disappointing to know that this place has been in business for so long I would've thought they're quality would've been better. No, no, and more no. Ugh, I was super excited to try this place. The ribs taste like jerky... could've been days old. The sauce is watery and tasteless like they're trying to stretch it by mixing it with water. The coleslaw - just no. The baked beans taste like beanie weanies. The chicken wings look weird. Potato salad looked like it was made with manufactured potatoes. Lastly the beef plate was covered in the sauce which is the worst tasting BBQ sauce I've ever tasted. Some of the same guys in the kitchen but the servers put speed before food quality. Undercooked fries. Old tea. Cold sandwiches. Salads come out after the food. 4 of them wrong not that anyone could find utensils at 3PM. Really need some adults running the place on Saturdays. They don't need my business and I'm aware. As I was passing by this place a lady in a van was trying to turn in so fast she almost ram over us. She was very apologetic, however readily turning in, she was in a rush to go inside. So I figured I should turn in too, after all it was smelling delicious. The whole block had that old fashioned hickory smell in the air. It was spacious inside. I ordered my food as a take out. I ordered a baked potato topped with pulled pork and cheese, lots of it, Yum! barbque sauce came on the side in a container, along with ranch sauce, butter and sour cream. For dessert I ordered the fried peach pie and my friend ordered the fried apple pie. Everything was delicious. I'm so happy to run into those fried pies because I thought I was going to have to leave town and take a drive up the country to find them. First thing I live the seat yourself environment!! The server was awesome, as first timers she was knowledgeable with the menu and offered suggestions to her favorites. Ordered some mixed plates and the baked beans are to die for! Hand cut fries could have used some salt but cooked well and plenty of them. The que is vinegar based and I loved it. I'm being nice and giving this a 4 star bc the service and the people are great. Overall, I think I would only come here if I'm broke, broke. I can say I'm glad this place exist for families who don't have a lot but still want to take their family out somewhere. The price of the food is great, you can't find places with prices like this anymore. I knew walking in it would be a hole in a wall which I don't mind bc sometimes, those are the best places. Maybe I'm wrong, I think maybe this place was one of the best (looking at past reviews) but maybe after the pandemic, it's gone down? We got 2 junkyard dogs which I say was very delicious, my son got a fries and a burger which I tasted and once again it was very delicious, but the fries were very very stale. Some were edible, some just hard or soggy so i don't I want to order fries again. My husband also got a grilled cheese and he liked it. We got the fried pickles, they were alright. We tried the jalapeño cornbread and those were veryyyyyyy greasy. We ordered half and half basket which another server apologized and fixed. We got full so we didn't eat the junkyard fries but I was not impressed bc they didn't serve it with any sauce which to my surprised the junkyard yard hot dog was the only thing that came with sauce (the server told us) but he didn't disappoint, he gave us some for the fries. Omg I love love this place! The only reason why Im not giving them their 4th star due to sanitation problems... errr.... If you ever ordered anything to go in this joint, you have to actually get to see the kitchen, and see the "magic." But unfortunately, it is more like the horror. I understand that it is a BBQ joint, and I dont expect their kitchen staff to be dressed in tuxedos, but at the same time, they should be clean! They have staff back there that looked like they haven't seen a shower for days! It was quite appalling ... BUT it is a bbq joint ... i would just like to see some improvement in the sanitatin department cuz if their staff can't keep themselves clean, what more are they doing with the kitchen? I shudder at the thought ... HOWEVER... although the kitchen is a nightmare, the BBQ is off the fa-shizzle. I love all kinds of bbq sauce and theirs is vinegar based. I only order either the pulled pork sammich or the half-a chicken bbq. The sauce they use is the best!! I salivate just at the thought of it! KA ZING!!! I have tried their french fries, and I get dizzy from the grease,,, but Im sure a lot of real southern folks truly enjoy that. Went in to pick my order up and had a racist experience. The man at the counter (Caucasian man) didn't say anything to me. Just threw the bag on the counter and proceeded to help his people. Hudson's has been a staple in Douglasville for a very very long time. The food is great the owners are very dedicated to the community. One of our favorite places to eat! I visited this establishment on Friday 2/10/23 around 8:30pm. The young lady at the cash register was nice but she was constantly running over to where the food was being prepared, talking directly over the fries to other young people and she was not wearing a mask. Then the young man bagging the food at the counter drop a customer's bread on the counter that was not clean. In front of all of the customers waiting, he pick up the bread and place it in the to go order container. Then there was another young man cooking and placing food on plates. He was wearing gloves. While talking directly over the fries to the young lady, he was constantly pulling his phone out of his pocket with the same gloves he was touching the food. Needless to say I did report this to the manager but it appeared to me that this place is not very clean. read more
