Extremely poor customer service. I was given a gift card for a returns item refund. When I came back a couple weeks later I wasn't able to use it at the cashier so went to customer service to troubleshoot (the very same customer service that issued the refund). I had the paperwork from the return along with the card. The card number did not match the paperwork and they basically accused me of fraud and did nothing to review how the refund was issued. I called customer service by phone and they confirmed the refund and the credit. They said that one of the two pieces of paper I was issued was an eGift card with a barcode for scanning at the register and couldn't understand why I was also given a card that had not been activated. So the store customer service accused me of fraud as they held the eGift card in their hands. Unbelievable! read more

We flew in to SEATAC Saturday night and stopped for food for the week before reaching our Blaine condo. I used the self checkout, which was totally fine. There were no plastic bags, only paper... that you had to purchase for $0.08. I've never been to a Walmart that didn't have plastic... or even offered paper. I told the kid I had a tote bag in he car and asked if I could just throw everything back in the cart after I scanned it? He said I could and that's what I did. I checked out, paid and headed to the door.... and apparently entered some Walton realm... as the kid requested my receipt... like I was @ Sam's..... I still had it n my hand so easy enough to hand it to him. Just an extra hassle step I wasn't expecting as I was trying to get in/out quickly. I usually don't care to go into the store, I normally order online go pick up. Today, I wanted a Seahawks shirt for the big game! I bought a men's size pajama set and went home. I could not try it on because the anti theft tag is stapled both the shirt and bottoms together. I got a size too small and went for an exchange. Julie helped me with the exchange. Went to Walmart to look for a barbeque. I found one on the Walmart website but wanted to see it in person and make sure it was what I wanted. I could have bought it online and they would hold it for three days. I was running some other errands and decided to stop by and check out the barbeque. Decided I wanted it but since I didn't have a big enough car to transport it I wanted to pay for it and pick it up the next day with my truck. I finally got someone to help me after 20 minutes of waiting. I explained my intentions of buying and picking it up the next day. The employee looked at me like I suddenly grew a third eye. After a what? I explained again and still didn't get through. He finally said we can't do that. I said can't do what and he said hold it for you. I said I can buy it online and you'll hold it for three days. I even showed him the website where it says that. He stared at my phone and didn't say anything just stared. And again said we can't do that. Unbelievable the lack of quality help At this store. I resolved the issue by going directly to customer service and explaining the situation to them and they by- passed any floor help and one of the customer service people went back to the barbeque section and we completed the transaction. My recommendation is if you have to do anything other than walk in pickup an item and pay go directly to customer service bypassing the floor help. It will save you a lot of time and aggravation. I use Walmart for grocery shopping. This store's selection of groceries is a joke -- they have nearly no produce (1 type of apples, bananas, only 1 type of potato, and 1 type of onion). Was honestly astounded by the lack of food variety -- Walmart usually has everything! Giant Walmart in Bellingham! It has everything from fast food McD to Bank (at front entrace) and of course your grocery or big box store. Came here because I ordered something online and i was given only 6 days to pickup with the last day before 10am. Online it says, I have 7 days. Came here for the carpet steam cleaner. But I have to say they do have some pretty good deals. Also 24/7 Big bright store. One stop place. Large parking lot. read more

I have always loved using our local Walmart because of their easy exchange policy. This year they have changed their policy. No receipt no exchange. I am no longer shopping there do to this policy. I spend at least $5,000 a year there. Nothing huge but I am sure I am not the only one. I realize the theft is why they chose this path. However, in my opinion hiring a few more theft protection employees would have been a wiser marketing choice for Walmart. One thing that's nice about American stores is that the selection is so much better than the Canadian equivalent. Parking is available in the nice large lot out front. The inside is huge - one almost can't see the other end. They have almost everything one needs to survive, other than cars. One can spend hours wandering the aisles in awe, like a child. Prices have definitely gone up compared to years past. Again it may be because of the exchange rate, but the deals I remembered from back then were often not to be had, outside of clearance items. With that said, their canned goods and instant foods are really cheap here. Totally loaded up. read more

I'm not normally a Walmart shopper, but I was on a quest. I live in Los Angeles and have a boat up in Blaine. I needed to upgrade my TV and Best Buy failed miserably. My boat is 2006, so obsolete technology was not my friend. So Into Walmart I went and met Barbara who worked in the TV/Audio department. I needed a specific 24 inch TV, with specific ports for accessories. Barbara found the perfect TV, and adapter to fit my needs, as odd as they were. The staff is always rude and disrespectful. When I need help finding an item it's always met with a sigh or roll of the eyes. The people who "guard" the doors are always old people who are soo petty and rude. I do not care what anyone says, I LOVE this Walmart location. The staff a little odd are still very nice and I love the way greet me upon entry. The store is always very clean and neat and shelves are always well stocked. There's never a time that I go there when I can't find what I'm looking for. I got the deal of the century! Tonight we were on the hunt for a new, artifical pre-lit Christmas tree. We checked 3 other big box stores in town and Walmart had the best selection, and price ranges. We were able to get a very nice tree with lots of lights for about $100. We had tons of questions about the trees. The employees were very helpful in answering all of our questions and seamed happy to help us. As a side note I used the ladies room while at the store. This Walmart receives a 1 star rating mostly due to the fact that it's so hard to find. After all, it's not the quality of selection that separates the Walmarts (since they all carry the same products pretty much). The store is not a Superwalmart so you do not have a large selection of groceries. The store is also about 1.5 miles off of Interstate 5, which in local traffic, takes more than 5 minutes. The first time I came here, I missed the store because the Walmart signage is hidden away behind trees and hardly noticeable. To makes things worse, you can only enter AND exit the store from the northbound direction of State Highway 539. If you miss it, you would have to make two U-turns to circle back! read more

I don't shop here much. I take my mother occasionally. Every time the staff is rude. They either ignore you altogether or do the bare minimum. Watched three gals converse for 5 minutes about breaks while a customer stood and waited for help. When she interjected one said "we will be with you in a minute." She looked at me with eyebrows raised. I helped her find what she was looking for. Another was closing the self checkouts and there were only two registers open. When someone asked her why she said, defensively, "I do what my boss tells me to do". The lines to checkout were jammed. Did she give a damn or even empathize a little? Nope. I love how you read the reviews here, and most of the reviewers attribute their dislike for this Walmart to us Canadians, as if we can all be lumped up into one stereotype, and as if Bellingham's economy does not benefit from people like us, and as if you don't smell too, or scratch awkward areas when nobody's looking. YEAH. Annoyance towards the prejudice and misplaces superiority aside, I can say I personally love Walmart, and this happens to be the closest to us Canadians (yes I don't feign superiority, nor do I judge). Warning for those from out of town - I would estimate that 75% of the traffic is from Canadians. This makes the store super busy and the parking lot messy and chaotic. I shop here but don't know why they have to be so frustrating. Being out of things is a constant problem that I don't understand. With all the resources at their command, why are they so often out of popular items? Now they are "reorganizing" the store for no discernible reason, and during this pointless reorganization they have apparently not bothered to restock some items and have been out of some things for weeks. And I have to agree with another reviewer that some employees look absolutely desperate. There is this one employee I keep seeing who wanders around looking like she is suffering from major trauma. If you ask her where something is, she looks at you in horror. I don't know if she is disabled or just unhappy. Some people appear to be able to cope with working here and some appear to be on the verge of suicide. read more

First off let me throw this thought out there Bellingham is the only city you can come to in north Whatcom County with a suffiently stocked superstore. When I Lived in Maple Falls we used to drive 45 minutes(one way) to come to a Walmart or Tartget ect. Also with that in mind the population in this area is growing but they have been hit hard by the bad economy. Anyway let me rail off my quick visit which deserved 3 stars. First off I'm not a huge fan of W.M. sinse the one where I live makes this place seem like the best one ever, but we had an emergency and it was close. We went toeat at the little chinese place that is actually on the edge of Walmrt's parking lot. This place was really good and fairly priced. So my nephew managed to knock a glass of water on himself resulting in wet pants and socks. We didn't have time to go home and channge him so we stopped in at wally world. It was pretty busy but that happens on a Saturday, we found some pants and socks and ofcourse his sister found some Dora pjs that we were getting now too. They were having a sale so I had to check the clothes for my kids too. I found a couple things and we were of to get some deorderant and other hygine related items. This is where they lost a star. This area looked like a tonado came through, it was also poorly stocked and organized. Pretty much I had two brands of deorderant to choose from everything was gone. I finally made up my mind and we were off the check out. There was an open self serve checkstand that was easy to use so we racked up only 45 dolllars of merchindice and we were off. Went here with a friend. I looked around while he was shopping. I found great back-to-school values. Bought a large bottle of glue for just 25 cents and eight mason jar lids for just $2.44...definitely the lowest prices in town. I also like their quality fabric selection at amazing low prices. This is definitely a one stop shop and you don't need "coupons" to get their low prices. Nice wide aisles and merchandise is well organized. Found a great TV for my spare room for just $88. Love the location. Easy to find on Bellingham's major street (Guide Meridian). The only store I know in Bellingham where you can get everything you need from food to furniture and be assured you are getting the lowest possible price. read more

This store has sold my family bad food getting us so sick and put us in the hospital it's killed some of our pets from them selling us tainted animal food. The employees at the store are difficult to deal with and there's a handful of them in particular that I don't think care to be there at all. If you go in there don't expect to get any help and if somebody does offer you any help they don't know what they're doing so they're going to drag you all over the store and then make you wait for somebody else to show up it never shows up. I've gone round and round with the managers at the store and for some reason they just keep getting new ones I heard they have a new district manager I hope that something changes now because this store is horrible the worst Walmart I've ever been in in the state of Washington. read more

So, just had my last fight with Wal Mart. People should learn how to deal with them. I purchased a defective air mattress from them. When I went to return it the clerk decided that since I had opened it they would not refund. So without opening it, how could I tell it leaked? It wasn't marked as "leaking" on the box. Well, I always try to be nice to the clerks, it isn't their fault that they don't understand how the world works. I asked for a manager, to get someone who understands what a credit card charge back is. Someone did come talk to the clerk, I'm pretty sure not a manager, then the clerk decided that yes, I could have my money back. I put a lot through my credit card and they have always supported me in any charge back 100%. So the point is, what the store clams is their policy is off no importance if they sell you defective goods. Your credit card will make them eat that policy. That is the last they will see of me, I left my cart full of goods with them to take care of. There are too many other business, that will treat me fair. read more

There are a few employees that are very grim, and seem very unhappy about their being there. Asking for help seems like a huge burden on them. Most of the employees here would rather run you over then help you. They stock for the Canadian shoppers so if you live here and want stuff most likely the shelf will be empty you will want to go to Winco.
