Never really go to Walmart and it's because they usually have bad customer service. Last night confirmed this. I asked for a price match and the manager wasn't able to explain why I couldn't get it. This store is dirty and depressing, as are most of the staff. I am semi-convinced that the employees are being drugged or are otherwise mentally incapacitated. I don't particularly like Walmart, and this place is pretty depressing even by Walmart standards. It seems a little dingier and more disorganized than most, the shelves aren't usually very well stocked, and there are odd gaps in what they carry. Sometimes I can't find something really basic and I can't figure out if it's just out of stock or they don't carry it. It seems like the products and brands they have are oddly slightly different from other Walmarts in the area, as well. I guess this could be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it. Lines are usually long, and cashiers don't seem particularly motivated to move them along. It's not that they are overtly unfriendly, it's more like they are so used to being swamped that they don't feel any particular urgency to stop chatting and get you checked out and get to the next person in the constant line. I did use the online 'Site-to-Store' feature to pick up an order here to save on shipping, and that worked out smoothly once I figure out that I had to pick up at the back of the store, not the customer service desk, oops. Personally I avoid walmart like the plague, but my sister recently bought a giant trampoline from them for her son's birthday, and I was tasked with putting it together. First, after paying for delivery the delivery guys unceremoniously dumped the two 75lb boxes on the curb, not even bothering to take it up to the driveway. After my dad and I spent 2+ hours putting it together we realized the final pieces were not as described in the instructions, they had included the wrong parts. When my sister called walmart to get the correct part they told her to disassemble the entire thing and take it back to the store. This, after paying for delivery and spending an evening putting it together. Sad to say this is par for the course, it doesn't really decrease my opinion of walmart because my opinion of walmart really couldn't get any worse. A word to the wise, shop them for their cheap household items if you must, but avoid buying anything that requires delivery or assembly. read more

Parking is ALWAYS a nightmare! during contruction there was never anything in stock or I couldn't find it! Not a very clean store. PHARMACY REVIEW The pharmacy takes lots of insurances and offers great prices, so I thought in a pinch I would give it a try. Well the short version is... I told them I had two prescriptions coming. They told me they close from 1:30 to 2:00 each day (it was 1:00 at the time). The second script didn't arrive until 1:27 so they rudely told me they couldn't fill It until 2:30...so I did the logical thing and said I would pay for the one they had gotten before, then have my husband pick up the other (I had to get back to work!). They then told me they hadn't filled that one either since they were waiting for the second to arrive!!??. Really are you serious?!?!? Pharmacies in general suck for service this one is worse than most. Wow, how aggravating. I wonder why they don't simply stagger their breaks (four employees) so as to offer continuous service??! Slow cashiers and workers don't want to help customers. Black worker in the self check out actually took someone's cart and shoved it right behind me so I couldn't leave and said excuse me really arrogantly for no reason at all As I was checking out. So I just move the cart out of my way so I could leave but I found that really weird. I also asked somebody if they had an item in stock he went and said he would check on it and asked for my name but thenNever came back. He was a short black guy also. I like to come here before work sometimes because it's really close to my job and it isn't busy in the early morning but today was a disaster. When I was ready to checkout, I was happy to see a lane completely empty. Unfortunately I ended up the cashier by the name of Rokia who saw my candy and literally told me she wanted them. She kept asking me for them and asked other cashiers if they had more and would not check me out! I ended up being there for over ten minutes despite repeatedly telling her I needed to go to work and I was going to be late! Then she had the audacityyyyy to ask me to go back there and get her some. I told her I absolutely would not and again reminded her I needed to go so she hesitantly scanned the rest of my items. After telling her the clearance items weren't coming up as the right price, she gave me the biggest attitude and was slow to change the prices. They are always restocking their products, and there are plenty of cashiers, so you don't have to wait 45 mins to just ring up laundry detergent, and shampoo. I live in Silver Spring, and can chose from two three other Walmarts, but this one by far is the one that I like best. And its a perk to go get a smoothie over at Tropical Smooth ( few doors over )before I get my shopping done. read more

Went there today after verifying with Walmart.com that they had my item in stock. Item was on the shelf but rang up $20 more than price online. Front desk employee informed me that they do not match their online price [from Walmart.com policy page... "Price Match Policy: We will match Walmart.com and Jet.com base price, for identical items purchased in a Walmart store"]. I asked why they don't honor their own price and was told they just don't. So they lost my business and Target was very happy to sell me my requested item at the price that Walmart.com had listed. After shopping at Walmart on Saturday, I went to self checkout and noticed that they were not cleaning the self checkouts after every customer. I have NEVER had a worst experience than with this Walmart. It seems like every single time we go we have an issue, be it with the lack of items in stock or with the incredibly rude employees and management-- but we continued to go because it was right around the corner from our house. Tonight was the icing on the cake, however. I went an hour before they closed (10pm) needing some nail supplies. My fiancé went to find someone to unlock the nails, and the first guy he found went to get the keys, saw they weren't there, shrugged and said he was sorry and walked away. Didn't page anyone. Nothing. So then my fiancé went to find the CSM (manager) and asked if we could get something from cosmetics, to which she immediately gave him attitude and said she didn't think anyone was there but she GUESSED she could page for someone. The WORST attitude we have ever seen! When he came back and told me that, lord knows it took everything I had not to go find her and go off. I don't care if you are an hour away from closing, everything should be able to be bought. I'm sure this review will make no difference, and the employees/management will continue being pompous assholes, but that is the last time I go there. I'm willing to go the extra 8 minutes to the Walmart down the road, where at least I'm not treated like shit. read more

Has the miss pleasure of going during Black Friday. This location had all the "hot" items in bulk. No fighting, no pushing and no losing an eye to obtain the flat screens or PS4. The only thing not on hand was the standing mirror with jewelry space. Yes, I was able to find all my treasures at this location. So why only one star? Unprofessional Staff, when asked where a items were their lips did not want to work. So many times they just walked away or tried to act like they could not hear. Yes it was Black Friday, I'm pretty sure on their interview they stated they could give good customer service. What happened to that eager interviewee? I purchased four items. I had to ASK the cashier to bag them. No joke, she rang them up and proceeded to ring up the next customer with my items sitting on top of bags. I had the clear my throat and demand she bagged the items. Her reasoning was she didn't know my "kind" liked bags. It took everything not to totally lose it. My kind in like a customer? Not sure what she meant but the smirk she had on her face said it all for me. She finally bagged my items. I walks over to customer service (what a joke). It seems that most of the "supervisors" worked the early shift and at present time their was only two on staff. Neither bother to come to speak with me. Yes I phone corporate. My mother just sent me this text in regards to her experience at this Walmart tonight. "This is by far the worst walmart!! They complain, agree with each other, have attitudes and act like the customers are bothering them. This Walmart just can't get it together. The aisles are disorganized, it lacks the selection of other larger stores and the employees just don't seem to care. The lines are slow and most of the cashiers barely make eye contact or say hi. Forget about making a return here, it takes forever!! This is probably the scuzziest Walmart store in the world! I hate going there except for the fact that it is closest to my home. It's dirty and neglected looking. Aisles are narrow and I often feel closed in there. It may be the only Walmart without a greeter, too! I hate going there! COLUMBIA deserves better! The Laurel store is great and my friends tell me the Ellicott City store is good too. I think I'll start going there. Altogether there is an unhelpful attitude amongst the store personnel. This place is the worst. Always unstocked with employees hanging around doing nothing and they never give you all of your bags at check out!! I'm convinced the cashiers are doing this on purpose to steal items! This Walmart is different from most Walmarts because it wasn't built to be a Walmart. Anybody who has lived in this area for years knows that the building has had many lives as different stores. I remember Bradlees, Jamesway, and Kmart in the building and I'm sure there are more. It is one of the smallest Walmarts I have ever been in and I've been in some small ones in Canada. It is also far from dirty. If you want to see dirty go to the Walmarts closer to the major cities. Okay, so, you think the scum of the earth shops here. Think again. I live in one of the most expensive areas of Howard County. I can shop anywhere I want to and not think twice about the prices. That's how some people get rich ---they are careful how they spend their money. I don't mind one bit that I might be shopping near people who are poor or maybe not squeaky clean. I'm happy that there are places like Walmart for us to shop. And yes, if you pay any attention you can save big on many name brand items at Walmart. Maybe you can't save big on everything, but you can save a lot on many things. I often go to another Walmart nearby that is much, much bigger. However, that bigger Walmart is always out of something I want. So, I end up going to the Dobbin Walmart because they always have it. The organization is usually much better than most Walmarts although I'm getting a little annoyed that the boxes are often piled-up in front of the birdseed during the busiest bird feeding times of year. I have never seen the parking lot full. Even around Christmas. And, if you stop and look you will see many high end cars parked in that parking lot. One day I pulled in to a parking spot just as a woman pulled her late model Bentley into her spot in front of me. If you look at the parking lots at this Walmart and others you will see many Lexus, Acuras, Audis, and other expensive cars there. I have never seen any panhandlers outside of this Walmart. Are you people sure you are talking about the Walmart in Columbia? Are you sure you aren't talking about the Salvation Army bell ringers? I have never noticed any odors at this Walmart. I tend to try and avoid this store because of all the negative reviews, but I took a trip with my littles to make a quick purchase for a baby shower. Prior to shopping, I took my two children to use the restroom. This place was disgusting. This was in the middle of the day, a little after 1, so there should have been someone on shift to clean. One stall had wads and strings of toilet paper on the floor and OVERFLOWING from the toilet and had a strong odor. The second available stall had fecal matter smeared on the bowl and inside the bowl. The other stalls were full, but I didn't want to see what they were like, so I left out. I told my kids we would hurry to get what we needed and leave so that they could use a clean bathroom somewhere else. Finding what I needed was easy because I knew what to look for and where to find it One associate was kind enough to bring me an empty cart she wasn't using as mine was having an issue with the wheel, so that was nice. The express line was pretty empty with only one customer ahead of me, while the other lines seemed long. The cashier, named Nada, seemed to be having a bad day. I smiled and greeted her as she began to scan my items, she may have grumbled something, I'm not sure. I went to pay for my items and asked for a gift receipt. Apparently this was her breaking point because she gave me a nasty look and said she would have to void out everything and start over. I responded with Ok, do what you need to do. I apologized for the inconvenience, but tried to explain that I had never had an issue of it being printed out at the end during previous gift purchases from Wal Mart. She didn't care. She rolled her eyes, huffed, and called abruptly for the manager. It took a few seconds, I got my gift receipts and items, told Nada to enjoy her day, and got out of there. Maybe the load is too much on them because they are understaffed and constantly hiring, but I have never had this issue with any other Wal Marts and it is sad that this one represents the Columbia area. The top photo on this page says it all. LONG customer lines especially at returns! Was there on Sunday, July 19th and it took over 15 MINUTES to finally make it to a register! This is NOT the exception to the rule - long lines are normal for this store, and they're the first thing you see when you walk in the door. Good luck getting a cart - the people waiting for service are almost always backed up in front of them! It's a terrible way to treat customers! I have been told by management that they have requested more registers, but are waiting on corporate approval. It could take awhile, I'm told. Funny how long it seems to take the world's largest retailer to open a register... Meanwhile, I'd think of shopping elsewhere until customers are treated with the respect their hard earned money deserves. read more

I ordered a toy online for store pickup and when I arrived at the store, the item had not been pulled yet. An employee walked over to the toy dept with me and we discovered that the toy was not in stock even though the computer system showed one item. He helped me find a store that did have the item, provided me with the store phone number, and advised me to call ahead. While I was disappointed that the item was not available, the employee was very helpful. read more

Shelves are never stocked, employees are ghetto and rude, and the customers are the bottom feeders of Howard County. Not that Columbia is a high society area, but you would think that going to a Walmart in Howard County would be a better experience than going to one in the inner city.
