This Walmart in particular was actually pretty clean. The staff was semi friendly and the produce quality was fairly similar to when I shop at Harris Teeter. Big dumb pile of bricks. Same stupid Walmart just as it was on Eastway Drive. Now its just new and cleaner soon to be dirty. Very ratchet unorganized store. It's so bad that it rubs off on the customers and they start acting crazy. We to return some moldy grapes once and at 1st they denied me. I requested a member of management and after waiting about 10mins tops she comes out just as rude and as nasty as ever. She than feels up the new grapes I got and has the NERVE to say "They feel the same to me" like WTF? You can't feel mood ma'am. Never AGAIN! I was fortunate enough to deal with a lovely young woman in the pickup department yesterday evening. I arrived to collect my christmas tree but was told pick-up was closed. Confused and annoyed I asked why I wasn't informed of said hours, it didn't take more than a few minutes for a lovely young lady (wish I remembered her name) to assist me with ease. She was fast, efficient and friendly. If I find her name I'll post it as she was an absolute delight and will be the reason I continue to support this branch. read more

This store experiences frequent employee turnover, but I have found that during the past three years things have changed for the better. Unlike the past when employees were sullen and generally helpful, today, most are cheerful and helpful. Checkout has improved tremendously during the past three years. Having two self-checkout areas is a big help. I DO suggest that customers be monitored during self-checkout because I've witnessed a LOT of theft when people don't bother to scan all of their items. Some cashiers deliberately fail to scan items that customers don't put up on the conveyor. They see it. They see the kids holding candy that they didn't pay for. Some of the cashiers act as if they don't see that case of Enfamil in the cart. Sometimes, the customers laugh at the fact that they're getting away with the theft. For the most part, the cashiers are fast, friendly, and helpful. A+ for them. And oh, the self-check stations work a LOT better than Harris Teeter's. The fresh produce section has improved, and items in the meat section seem to move faster than in the past. The store is clean. Occasionally, (usually during heavy shopping days) items aren't on the shelves, but it's understandable. Workers hustle to keep the shelves stocked. Ten thumbs up. read more

This Walmart store hasn't been open very long...maybe a year. I use it because it is in my neighborhood and saves me gas to shop there. I will say it is well lit, the parking lot usually has a security vehicle driving around the lot, but north times my vehicle was stuck, once with battery problem, once with a flat tire, the ''security'' man was unable to help me at all...zero. I had to walk home in the pouring rain one of those times, in the dark with 4 bags of frozen foods. The store is usually very clean. There are employees all over putting labels facing forward & stocking shelves, just don't ask them where anything is located. Often they don't acknowledge being spoken to or just walk away to another part of the store. #1 complaint is this store is ALWAYS OUT OF ITEMS...today it was lettuce for salads...ZERO in the refrig.veggie section. Also, this trip NO cat litter...except the El Cheap Walmart brand. Last week it was NO 2% milk...EMPTY refrig case all week...2 wasted trips to get milk!!! I mean....what's the problem??? I tried to find a manager and he was with another customer complaining about the lack of some other dairy product. I know he saw me waiting for him to finish then he exited quickly in the opposite direction and I gave up before I found him again. This is the 4th time I've had to go on to the Walmart Super Center @the Galleria and shop all over. IF they can't keep stocked with essentials we use daily, they need to shut this store OR find some management people who are on top of their game. 3 stars for convenience for me. What do you do when they build a Walmart in your neighborhood? After months of complaining about it there was nothing we could do Walmart was going to be there no matter what. So make the best of it right! I'm saving money on groceries and gas :) This Walmart is new so as soon as you get inside your in good shape however try getting there in the first place. The parking lot is a complete disaster, getting back onto independence is one of the biggest risks you might take in your life. Overall it's a Walmart you know what to expect. read more

"Did you hear/see they are opening a new Walmart over on independance?".....Why yes, yes I did hear/see that and I still have no idea why such events are noteworthy. I'm guessing it's because so many people drive by there everyday on their way in or out of the city on 74 it's just eye catching. Anyways, I went to the latest and greatest addition to charlottes big box chain stores the other day for some random item a friend wanted to pick up and as always, when you are shopping for random items, where do you head? Walmart.. that's where. The first thing I noticed about this one is the effacement on the building itself seems to be a little different than their other ones. It's brick, a little more pronounced and almost looks like they have redesigned it entirely to try and update the structure and make it look not so much Walmart-y as the standard blue and gray of the past. The inside, is just like every other walmart supercenter (clothes, groceries, etc) I've ever been in except with the added bonus of being brand it doesn't have the entirely funky old musty smell to it, just yet. I bought some groceries, my friend bought his random item of the week and we headed on out merry way. One thing that was kinda a pain in the ass about this particular store is the location isn't easy to get into and out of. We actually had to drive through a neighborhood to get there and then through another neighborhood to get back out. We probably didn't take the best route but when you are making a trip to a store that has the amazing effect of making you want to get there as fast as possible and then get the hell away as fast as possible, wrong turns can be made. The cashier lady who checked us out took about 5 minutes to ring up a clove of garlic that the guy in front of us had and actually had to first try and get a manager to help her and then pulled in another cashier who was able to score a assist and move us all along. I'm more and more becoming a fan of amazon.com for shopping for a lot random items walmart tends to carry. If you really, really, feel the need to check this one out "the new walmart over on independance" then go, breath in deeply of not only the people of walmart but also all that one of the good old icons of american consumerism has to offer. For someone who shops at Walmart (University/Albemarle road) at least twice a week, I rarely come to the one on independence. Sunday must have been my lucky day. I was able to find a parking space. Wish I could do no stars. This is the worst Walmart I have ever been to they discriminate while checking receipts for people leaving. After waiting almost 25 minutes to check out and then having to have a manager come help with the coupon for my sons formula, we decided we would do Subway for dinner while in Subway our one year old had enough and started getting upset so while I waited on our food my husband took him to the car. As I was leaving I noticed that the same manager and a security officer was outside discussing a gentleman with a baby and them calling the cops and they were joking about how stupid he was to just be sitting there when they had called the police and how the he better have someone to come get that baby when he goes to jail. As I walked by I actually thanked the Manager for helping the cashier with the issue he was having with our coupon and he stated no problem have a nice night. When I got to my car the officer pulled behind us and asked for the receipt. When we showed him the receipt and offered for him to get the manager and check our bags and the car he declined and actually laughed and stated we were good to leave. After getting home and calling the store manager he acted like he could careless and then hung up on me. Called the 1-800-number and they as well acted like we had done something wrong. This is the second time we have had an issue like this at this Walmart. What makes me so mad is the fact that the guy that came out to tell the police about us is the same young kid who helped us at the register. They also was not checking any other receipts even people with items not in bags. This is wrong on so many levels. My child was not in a car seat and we went through a register and was helped by a manager. This is unacceptable treatment and something needs to change. Went in to buy a rice cooker, couldn't find one box unopened and re taped. I know it's a supermarket, but they have the worst customer service, employees just blow past you and never ask if you need help finding things. Probably the worst customer service I've ever experienced at a Walmart. Not once, but twice here. My main was when I had to return a few things to the store and couldn't find my receipt and ended up being haggled by the woman at the customer service desk. I advised her I had no receipt and from there she gave me a huge attitude. None of the products were used at all and I clearly stated that, but since I didn't have the receipt it was a hassle. She had the audacity to shake the can of hair spray and say "this feels half empty" and called her colleague over and made her feel it.. she ended up spraying it in the air to see if it was ever used (which I then stayed again it was never used). I NEVER had a problem returning anything at Walmart before and felt so embarrassed the way they treated me especially in front of other customers behind me. I work in customer service at a retail store and our policy is to always please the guests and if we sell it we will return it... receipt or not. I will not be returning to this store. I'd rather travel further and be treated with respect than to be degraded by such ignorant people. read more

This post is about the Subway in this Walmart. I had the craziest Subway experience EVER at this Walmart. First, the woman working had to run answer the phone which was no big deal since I wasn't in a rush, but then started cleaning after and left us standing there, while her co-worker took care of all the people in line behind us. Once we made eye contact she realized she'd left us standing there and came over to finish our order. Then, she asked us the same questions about the bread, cheese, toasting, and sub choice over and over again. Finally we get to deal with someone else when it comes time to put our toppings on, but little did we know that all of the workers were not properly trained. She loaded my sub so full that it was barely edible, and the sub was so drenched in oil and vinegar that I could smell it the whole way home-- THROUGH THE BAG! Haha I actually was laughing the whole time and couldn't believe how out of whack this place was but hey, it's Walmart. P.S. If the guy in front of us reads this, I hope you didn't eat all that mayo! read more
