The Customer Service desk at this location is literally a joke. I am a Kroger shopper in AZ - clearly something was lost in the training manual at Metro Market. I stood with two other customers for over 10 mins only to leave without ever being helped. The manager swing by and paged Lewis (Louis?) but alas, he never came. When inquired in my exiting the store the self checkout clerk says he is probably at lunch. Oy vey. Woodman's is just up the way - and Piggly Wiggly. Both great options folks. read more

The honest truth is that this is a store you can go to among many others. What will you find here? Random stuff on sale, not necessarily what you came for. Quality is only occasionally compromised. I've bought strawberries which were ready for the trash in four days, and oranges with about as much sweetness as the little old lady at the end of the street who might keep a loaded gun. The deli is okay if you like everything covered with mayonnaise. The meat poultry and fish department are all contextually inflated, like most other places. It shouldn't be lost on anyone that this franchise is owned by Kroger, which already has had legal culpability with regard to its pricing practices. Numerous other items were priced for maximum profit margin by the corporation. I'll stop there but I'm guessing you get the idea. read more

I recently bought a Kroger brand ice cream (Churned Mint Chocolate Chip), and found a hair in it. The hair was blue, and my hair is black. Also, I haven't dyed my hair since 2019-ish, so it has been a while. The hair was really short, while mine is longer. I am no longer buying Kroger ice cream anymore. Metro Market is my go-to spot for cereal and yogurt. They usually have sales on their dairy products and consistently have lactose-free yogurt and ice cream! The Kroger brand is very affordable and their selection of chobani and various Greek yogurts is pretty impressive. Their cereal selection is pretty good with many affordable options. The check out line is usually very quick (they have 6 self-checkout isles). Overall, a solid place to visit if you are around the Hilldale area and are looking to increase your supply of dairy goods. read more

I believe I previously sang praises for this grocery store. At that time I was under the (still can't confirm) belief that this store was affiliated with a couple grocery outlets, both in Washington state, West Seattle, primarily, and the other in Tacoma, which I always visit when back home. The first visits when it opened the seafood, salmon in particular was great. I was offered a fresh never frozen sushi grade fillet that was every bit as good as promised. Today I wanted more of the same and was informed that such product wasn't sold anymore. What's more, all that was offered was farmed Atlantic salmon. The actual disappointment had been the salmon. But instead, as I am coming to view this store as merely another Copps/Pick n Save, a place where the employees all share the same defeated dead stare, suggesting their life really sucks, this is the thing I find very disturbing about the store called Metro Market. The workers at the Seattle MM were not mindless corpses, mistreated and under appreciated shells like are found at all Pick n Slave grocery retailers, at least here in Madison. read more

Very clean and organized. Staff is energetic and helpful. They have double coupon day, just like their competitors: Copps and Pick and Save. Amazing baking counter and wine selection. For beer, they offer the "make your own six packs", there is a great variety to choose from. They make sandwiches and they come with sides for a small additional $$$. I got a steak and they offered to cook it for me. There is a variety of international foods and products you can not get anywhere else. A more in depth hot food counter. Need lunch? They even have picnic tables out front. Sample day? Not just cheese. I sampled ice cream. Yes, you heard it. There is a rewards programs for their smoothies, gelato AND coffee bar. I live nearby and do the bulk of my shopping there. Good store that could be better. Flow filters you through the fresh/prepared section and temptations are everywhere. Prices are not always readily apparent so you can be surprised when a couple small pieces of fried chicken and a scoop of Mac n Cheese runs you nearly $9. Layout is confusing. Why have canned tomatoes in the Italian section and not with other canned vegetables? As another reviewer stated, they're going after a Whole Foods vibe. Finally, check your receipt for price discrepancies. Especially sale items. Overcharges have happened several times. In contrast, one of the managers has (on two occasions) waived me through checkout and comped me a couple items for having to wait too long in the express lane. Its impeccably clean and the staff is super pleasant. A good experience overall. read more

I am finding myself visiting the Metro Market more than I ever thought I would. Despite me living on Fitchburg, when I am in the area, I do stop in for quick items to pick up. The staff are extremely nice and make sure they ask if you've found everything you were looking for. The store is constantly clean and the parking lot is hardly ever flooded with carts. They really do a fantastic job up keeping the store, both inside and outside. Two problems I have with the store are prices and being charged incorrectly for items. Be sure to check your recipes! They are more pricy than other grocery stores like Woodmans. I liken them to Hy-Vee in terms of the prices but unlike Hy-Vee, their produce are actually good quality! Still, I cannot grocery shop here due to high prices but they are a great option to pick up small items to get you through the week or even for a special meal. As someone who was strongly against this store opening in the neighborhood during the time that I lived in the area, I am happy I was proven to be wrong. Recent changes at the store are incredibly disappointing. Kroger can't seem to figure out if they want to be an upscale or a discount grocery store. The onsite sushi chef is now gone in favor of pre-made (and less than stellar) sushi. Aesthetically pleasing displays have been replaced with more utilitarian ones. Bright red and yellow "Lower Price" signs have popped up everywhere, and even the staff has been redressed in red and yellow t-shirts advertising Metro Market's low prices. So sad to lose what was a very pleasant shopping experience in favor of a dime-a-dozen discount store. These are definitely first world problems. I get it. But grocery shopping is not fun and Metro Market for a time made it a bit more pleasant. I will miss what it was. read more

Nice place for a medium sized shopping run. They always seem to be in control of things, have a wide variety of options for your meal's and most of the time have tasty cheese samples! I love this place. Its clean and well organized. The staff are friendly and helpful. They have a great selection and the prices are actually lower on some items. I love the salad bar. Ive ate there a few times and they have a great selection. The hot bar is good too. You can buy meat and they'll grill it for you to eat there or take it home. They have fresh pizza made or you can buy one to take home and bake. They have a great juice bar and bakery too. Their fruits and veg are always fresh. read more

This place has come close to perfecting the grocery store experience. I became addicted to the pilot Metro Market in Milwaukee, and I'm so happy that Madison (area) got one. -Their cheese department is amazing. Get to know Liz - she knows her cheeses and is fun to talk with. The selection is growing every day and they really have a pretty unique set of products. -Their produce selection is great and fresh and is curated to remove the not fresh stuff (think like the opposite of Woodman's) -Bakery, Meat, Seafood good also -Well laid out and clean -Prices are fair - for the most part, similar to Copp's I'm a bit confused why they chose the Cottage Grove location, since it's not really a metro area, but I continue to make the drive from downtown. read more

The store is very visually appealing. Love that they have an ice cream station a sushi bar and other cool things like where they will cook whatever meat you buy. This is a Roundy's superstore, which means the house brand is the old IGA brand, Roundy's. New, shiny, well-stocked, and a great shopping experience. I've been to Metro Market about ten times now and it's pretty great. I call it "Fancy Copps" because it's basically the same store, but with added amenities. It's true that things are often over-priced, but they also have a lot of good sales and coupons. Reasons I dig Metro Market: + everything is clean all the time from the carts and baskets to the bathrooms to the conveyor belts at the registers + the staff always seems legitimately happy and they are really nice - my boyfriend and I returned some personal items someone had forgotten in a cart and the manager came to find us to thank us again when the person who lost it came back + good flow - they're smart about opening up extra registers and redirecting you to get you out as quickly as possible even if there's a minimal wait + produce has been some of the best I've found in a regular grocery store + as previously mentioned, good sales and coupons and some nice "everyday" finds + the best cinnamon rolls I've had in years - so often store-bought ones are dry and flavorless and a waste of calories, but these are soft and gooey after a few seconds in the microwave + a mix-and-match section for specialty sodas + mini carts for when you have too much for a basket but don't want to have to wield one of the big ones meant for family shopping I've heard some rumors of one opening up on the west side and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. It's a little pricey for my everyday needs, but it's definitely a good tier down from (the delicious though very pricey) Metcalf's. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. I want to love it, because it's close to my house. But whenever I'm there, I keep thinking about Hy-Vee and how much better it is. The selection here is limited to how small the store is. I also wish that Metro Market would have designed a dedicated Organic/Natural Food section, much like Hy-Vee has. Instead, I have to really search the entire store for the items I want. And oftentimes I realized they don't have what I want and have to make a trip to another store as well. And yet, sometimes Metro Market has things other stores lack. Their coffee/gelato shop is pretty decent, but not really something I need. It is a beautiful store, though. And what they do offer is of pretty good quality. They always seem to be offering samples of stuff, which is awesome. I'm not so sure the prices are as outrageous as some might think. Beer and wine is pretty freaking cheap here, and they have a weekly flyer full of savings. Shop the sales, people! Overall, in a pinch it will do. But, I'm a loyal Hy-Vee customer, so that will continue to be my preferred grocery store. read more

After three strikes, I've given up on Metro Market. I knew something was wrong when they didn't have any deli containers the day after they opened. Did the store opening catch all of the staff by surprise? Last week, I bought some strawberries that they had on sale. The berries were mushy and moldy when I got them home. I suggested to the store manager that they refrigerate their perishable produce like Piggly Wiggly does rather than leave it sit out on display tables at room temperature. The final strike was last week when I got sick on some deli meat. When the deli girl opened the package of Dietz and Watson turkey (it was the display package), she even commented on how much juice was leaking out of it. She had to get a wad of paper towels to sop it all up. The meat that I bought continued to leak liquid and made a mess in my lunch box. The diarrhea started a few hours after I ate it. I threw the rest out. When Copps handled Dietz and Watson deli meat, one of the deli people told me it had a much shorter shelf life than Jennie-O and other brands. From now on, I won't waste my time or money at Metro Market. I'll drive the extra distance to Copps in Sun Prairie or go over to Piggly Wiggly just down the road in Cottage Grove. read more

Looks pretty good so far. About Copps prices. Fresh rack of lamb in the butcher's case. Been back several times now, and I am impressed with the quality of their products. Hopefully, they will not decline like HyVee has. We've had their rack of lamb 2 or 3 times now, and it's delicious. Steaks are great. They have both Prime, and grass fed available, as well as choice. Their Pub Burgers are excellent. The in-house made brats, not so much. Not bad, just not great. Got a Ciabatta loaf from them, and it was crusty and delicious. All in all, I'm a fan! read more

Very nice up scale Roundy's food market. Bakery is at least a 4 star on a five star scale. Butcher shop is excllent, their sausages are all very tasty, coarse ground, natural casings and very little fat. I truly feel their as good or better than Johnsonville sausages. The butcher shop Bacon thick cut with great Smokey flavor and smell will bring you back to the old butcher shops of the past and cost less than major brands. They have fresh squeezed Orange juce and they have the machine there so you can watch the process. When they run a sale it is quite a deal. Nice place, good place to purchase food! read more

I was thrilled when they came into my neighborhood. We primarily get the prepared food there which are always spot on. Our favorite is the "$6 meals" which can feed two. We also like the meat department especially the stuffed chicken breasts. The bakery is impressive though we don't buy much from it. The hot bar sometimes isn't as appealing, but the salad bar is wonderful. The main downside is the prices, but I also realize all these nice features cost money. The free wifi, piano player, keeping up the indoor and outdoor seating are just some examples. We feel the produce is particularly expensive there and tonight we passed on the bing cherries because they were up to $6 per pound from $4.50 the last time we bought them. We will always continue to go there, but most of our everyday groceries will still come from Costco or Woodman's. read more

Metro Market is slightly pricier than many of the other options around Madison, but its convenience, cleanliness, and product quality have made me a loyal customer. I will admit that I frequent Metro Market partially out of laziness because it is a 2 minute drive from my place, but I love it for more reasons beyond sloth. This grocery store is easily one of the cleanest stores in town. Some stores just feel dirty like Woodman's, which is cheap, but lacking quality. In the case of Metro Market quality beats out quantity. All of the produce and dairy at Metro Market is fresh and long lasting. I stopped going to some other stores because milk and produce would go bad after a few days. The workers at Metro Market are always cheerful and helpful. The store also employees large numbers of local high school students, which is great to be supporting the community in that way! The wine selection is smaller than Woodman's, yes, but it is well curated. I can easily find some of the wine that I miss from living in Napa here. It's great! Did I mention that Metro Market has a cheese monger? She is super friendly and helpful. I'm pretty sure I have purchased more cheese than necessary as a result of her wine and cheese samplings. I can't imagine going to another store unless I'm looking for something very specific that Metro Market does not carry in their limited product selection. read more

Okay, we have lived in Madison for just over a year and a half and we have been going from store to store in the area randomly because we haven't found one that is our must go to. Some have been nice but pricey, some too crowded, some just have been blah. I happened to stop by Metro Market in Cottage Grove on my way back from picking up the kids from school (we live in Monona). I was very impressed at how clean and modern the store looks both inside and outside. The store has an amazing bakery, deli, cheese, and meat sections. The salad and food bars are great and have a good selection of things that everyone in my family will like. I've been there a couple Friday nights and they were offering salmon with side meals that were being prepared and packaged right there. The fruits and vegetable section has a decent selection. My last favorite is that they offer sales all the time and I feel like their prices are decent with the exception of a few things. I feel like I am getting a lot more when I am shopping there than most other places, especially when I take advantage of the sales. On the way out you can hit up the smoothie station for a healthy concoction. This Metro Market is now my families go to, even if it's a little out of the way. read more

Pros: -Produce section was nice, good selection and better quality produce than Woodman's -Store was clean -The bakery section, deli, and meat counter were all very nice. -Nice little extras in terms of coffee shop area and gelato (!) -We took home some sushi from the deli area and it was pretty good, not restaurant quality (obviously) but slightly better than most grocery store sushi Cons: -The prices were hit and miss- some things were priced very well, others were really over-priced -The layout of the store is very confusing and inconvenient- there is no real "flow", so you can't make a clear trip up and down the aisles and you end up having to double back a bunch of times. This is even worse when it is crowded. -I was really excited that they have a bulk foods section (we usually shop at Woodman's and they don't have one), but I found it to be really small and it didn't have a great selection of items. Both HyVee and Copp's in Sun Prairie are much better in this regard Overall, I wasn't that impressed especially considering where we live, it means 20 min more of driving (round trip) compared to Woodman's, and if we are going to do that, it is much more likely we'd just go to HyVee. I just felt like the whole place was trying to cram Whole Foods atmosphere and prices into a regular old Copp's and the result is just unsettling. read more
