Good place for buying groceries at reasonable prices, but it's always crowded.

From a product standpoint I guess this Walmart is pretty average. But I witnessed something tonight that made me rethink ever shopping at a Walmart at midnight. As with most 24 hour stores, around the stroke of midnight all of the cash registers have to be restarted for the new work day. This of course causes a short inconvenience for the customers. But it's usually nothing big. What makes the procedure at this Walmart a bit disturbing, and quite dangerous, is that the assistant manager walks from register to register and removes all of the cash. He puts the cash in little zippered containers. I was at the last register in the line, so by the time he reached my register he had a stack of little blue zippered containers filled with cash. But how much cash might there actually be in one of those little blue containers , you might ask? At my register there was at least $5,000 in cash. When the assistant manager lifted the cash drawer out he revealed a pile of $20, $50, and $100 bills. There were at least a couple hundred of them. Right in front of all of the customers he grabbed this enormous stack of cash and he stuck it in the blue bag. Everyone in line witnessed. But of course there must have been a team of armed guards, right? Anyone carrying that much cash in the open around in the store at midnight must certainly be armed right? Well, no, not at all. In fact, the security guard had a squeezy football in his left hand, like one of those stress-relieving squeezy things. As I glanced around slightly in fear, I noticed that two of the customers in line did indeed have guns. Because, Virginia is an open carry state. Anyone can carry a gun in the state of Virginia. That is anyone except a rental security guard who was not authorized to carry a gun. The reason all of this is so important to the average Shopper is that any store with this poor a security plan puts all of the customers and employees at Great Danger. Even if a robbery was unsuccessful, many customers and workers would be injured or even killed if a lunatic, or any of those gun-toting customers, decided to try to get out with the thousands of dollars in cash. There are so many better ways that the midnight close out of business could have been conducted that would not have exposed the customers to the cash. read more

The people are friendly but they never seem to have anything in stock. I just moved here and have had to go here twice to pick up things for my new home. The first time, they had no bread. The second time they had no bottled water and another family was super disappointed that I got the one and only twin mattress in the store. Also, NOTHING is where it is supposed to be, so download the app and check the price on EVERYTHING since you frequently pick up something and it was in the wrong spot so the price is wrong. The key machine works pretty well too. After you wipe off all the loose metal shards, all 3 keys I had made worked fine. read more

I haven't been to this Walmart location in a few years because honestly I don't care much for Walmart as a whole and this location had always seemed to me to be kind of the bottom of the barrel for Walmart Stores. That said, we were driving past this location one evening last week when my wife insisted on stopping for a few grocery and pet items. I grumbled but pulled the F-150 into the parking lot. The parking lot is huge but was crowded with vehicles and stray shopping carts left by thoughtless patrons blocked the first couple of parking spots I attempted to enter. Eventually I dropped off my wife near the entrance then parked a fair distance away from the entrance. Alright, I was already predisposed to have a poor shopping experience given my past impressions of this store but as soon as I entered I could tell something was different. The store is neat, clean and well organized with products mostly displayed in an attractive fashion. Aisles are very spacious allowing customers to easily pass each other even with shopping carts in hand. Staff members I encountered on this visit were polite and friendly. This Walmart location hasn't yet gone onboard with the company's new "Scan & Go" feature that we use when shopping our usual Walmart at the Sams Circle location in Chesapeake so we headed for the checkout. We were let down a bit here as the lines were a little lengthy and weren't moving very swiftly. We only had a dozen or so items but one of them scanned at an incorrect price which really threw the clerk off her game. She insisted the price was whatever it scanned at even though I pointed out signage clearly marked at considerably less in two separate store locations. Whatever, I decided the fight wasn't worth it and just left the item there rather than hold up the whole line of customers behind us. Just a note in general here, check your receipts at Walmart stores because mistakes are not uncommon in my experience. There's not much that frustrates me more than waiting in line to check out then having to wait in another line for Customer Service to correct their own mistake. Despite some shortcomings I found this store to be vastly improved from what I've experienced in the past. As I stated earlier, I haven't been to this Walmart location in a few years because I really disliked it but after seeing they've made made many improvements I won't mind returning in the future. I'm willing to chalk up our poor checkout experience to just a problem with the individual clerk we were dealing with and I'm sure if I'd pressed the issue a supervisor would have corrected the problem, I just wasn't willing to devote the time to it in this instance because I just really wanted to get on with my evening. read more

Stopped here again, I really should stop doing this, and once again...hey, not my job. I needed a stand-up fan. They had several models on display. I picked a stylish, somewhat expensive fan and wanted to plug in the display model to see how much air it circulated. An official looking employee walked by, he had one of those radio things wrapped around his neck so he could communicate with other employees. I asked him where I could plug in this fan and he gave me that look, you know the one, lady not my department look, I'm too important around here to lower myself to help you look. He said, "I'll find someone to help you". All I wanted was an electrical outlet. I didn't want the fan in another color, I didn't need to know the price I just wanted to plug it in. This place is absolute trash. I go to self checkout to discover an item of mine didn't have a barcode. I could've easily put it in my bag and not have paid, but I'm an honest person. I asked for help from an associate working the self checkout and they told I had to go find an item with a barcode on it. Now I had already scanned some other items. Upon being told this I go back and grab one with a barcode and comeback to see the self checkout I was at was now occupied and my other items that I had scanned we're nowhere to be found and none of the employees communicated to me or knew where they went.... I was gone less than 2 minutes. Now I have to go back through the store and get my other two items. Now what was an in and out trip has turned into a damn adventure due to your customer associate having no customer service skills. We got discriminated here because we look different. We were staying in line for a while and when there were about 3 groups in front of us, the cashier specifically yelled to us that #12 (or 13) is open. She was talking directly at us although there were people in front and behind us. We didn't think much of it at first and decided to stay in that line because I went to check to see where #12 at and it was far away and we were almost there so no point to move. When we finally got to the cashier instead of a typical customer service greeting we received a nasty look with a "ya'll know you can go to self check out right?". Mind you we have quiet a few items and some big items. I know there are self check out. I have shopped at Walmart a lot and NEVER, heck, not even Walmart, no stores I've been to told me when I'm already at the register that I have to use self checkout to ring myself up! And she was doing that just to us! It's almost to the point where she wanted to refuse ringing us up. She was clearly upset! When she finished with us she threw the receipt in the bag completely ignoring us, no eye contact, no thank you, just an angry face with attitude. Absolutely horrible experience! One of my favorite stores to come to because the prices are great. I found some really nice, comfortable, and affordable jeans. The jeans cost $11.00 and I found that to be a steal. I also found some graphic tees for $5.00 for my son. This is place is a one stop shop. I also purchased some snacks, toiletries, and fresh fruit. All at a very reasonable price. The sales associates a far a few. I needed assistance and it took several minutes to locate a sales associate only for her to tell me she didn't know what I was looking for and to ask someone else. No how about you call another associate to find what I'm looking for rudeness. Her attitude really sucked, but I found another associate that was more than welling to help and that he did. I'm not if I'll ever come to this particular Walmart again but if I am I pray the sales associate don't come to work with an attitude. read more

I try to avoid Wal-Mart most of the time, but sometimes when you need to stock up or planning a Super Bowl party like I most recently did you can't beat their prices for certain things. I always dread the trip & look at it like going to the Dr, just get in & get it over with so you can go about your life. The parking is awful, the trash is always overflowing out of the trash cans & into the road, & I usually almost get ran over trying to get from my car to the entrance. Then once you get in it's impossible to get to anything you to look at. Carts & people everywhere. The store is filthy & you see opened/eaten food scattered around the aisles. I saw wing bones on the floor the last time I was in there when I was looking in the bike section. Then when you finally are almost over with this trip to hell you wait in a line 20 deep, while there are only 5 out of 30 cashiers open. The cashiers never speak to me, so I pay & do my walk of joy back to my car because it's finally over. I've never smoked, but I'm pretty sure that I feel like a need a cigarette when I get in my car. Lines are long, bunch of stuff stolen, not stocked at all and only very little friendly faces. It's sad but this area is just completely horrible and dirty. I stop at this Walmart almost everyday... and almost everyday I have to go back outside and find my own cart because there are never any inside the store. If I use the self checkout and scan alcohol I will tell the person 'running' the area that I need them to approve my age... half the time they will tell me that they will do so after I'm finished ringing all my stuff. This was Mart no better then the next, but there are a few things that got under my skin. First, I went in and notice how unhappy the workers seem. Then I notice how the workers don't know anything about the department they work in. They don't seem to know anything about the store period. Lastly, I wanted to buy material. This Wal-Mart probably has the worst customer service I've ever came across. Today I was at the money center trying to send a express pay and was not able to do it. The reason is because the customer service reps ignored me. Why have a lane called express and ignore the people in It? They had 3 reps behind the counter and all 3 looked and took other customers as if I wasn't standing there. I stood there for over 10 minutes. Is that the definition of express services? 2 of the reps literally looked me in my face and didn't ask if I needed help or anything. This is the worst experience I've had in any Wal-Mart. I am really not a big fan of Walmart's anyways and for some reason whenever I decide to go to this Walmart it just happens to be the first of the month when all the ghetto assholes get their food stamps renewed. Something I will never understand is why in the hell everyone with food stamps has to run out at the stroke of midnight to get groceries. I understand that you just got money on your EBT card but can't you wait till 8 a.m. to get your damn groceries, are your 35 children starving that bad that its mandatory for you to refill your fridge at midnight, looking like a hot mess in pajamas with no bra? Perhaps you should stop using your food stamp card to buy chips, candy and junk food. Then maybe your money will stretch to the end of the month so I'm not stuck looking at your ghetto ass blowing my hard earned tax dollars on crap and making the checkout lines an hour long wait. Now you might be wondering why this would cause me to give the Walmart a low rating but this happens every month like clockwork and they never have the appropriate amount of staff working. Tonight they only had 2 check out lines open for almost 30 minutes. Then they finally called 2 more people to register. Tonight was particularly unpleasant because I almost got into a fight with 1 of the junk food eating, soda drinking, EBT card having, trash dumps. A new cashier opened a register right next to the one I had been waiting an hour in and I rush my cart over to it and the chick that was 3 people behind me decides to pop off the mouth like she's something special and tells me that she should be able to get in line ahead of me since she SAW the cashier first. I just looked at her like she was insane and told her that it's not about who "saw" the cashier first it's all about who gets there first and I got there before she did. Maybe if she didn't weigh 350 pounds...or have 2 carts full of JUNK FOOD AND VALUE PACK CHICKEN WINGS she might have made it there before me. But the sheer volume of the groceries she had in her carts told me that she's got at least 5 children at home, she looked as though she could've been pregnant again, and she loves sponging off the government and the tax payers and she always will. Anyways after I told her tough shit she started chicken popping her neck at me saying, "who da f*** did I thunk I wuz talkin to?" and other stupid stuff along those lines. Right in front of my 9 year old daughter mind you, and I just calmly looked at her and said, "Do you know who YOU are talking to?!? If it wasn't for me and people like me you wouldn't be filling your cart with hundreds of dollars worth of food to help keep you a "healthy" 350 pounds. So YOU better watch what YOU say and who you say it to because if it wasn't for my tax dollars you and your 8 children would be eating out of a dumpster!!!" And I turned around and the cashier finished ringing up my stuff, I paid her WITH CASH, and left. Shaquana didn't say another damn word the entire time I was standing there. I'm sure that she had plenty to say after I left, but her pathetic ass got owned in a Walmart check out line and everyone knew it. So anyways...ya this Walmart just sucks in general but it's especially bad at the first of the month. AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS. I have a reminder set up in my cell phone to make sure that I never make the mistake of coming here then, and honestly I wouldn't have even gone there tonight except it's my only time off for the next 5 days and I had to get my daughter a book bag and some last minute school supplies and I won't have time off work before school starts! The Walmart on Tidewater Drive, isn't 24 hours, but the staff is WAY more friendly, and it's not such a junky dirty mess. read more
