I go to Sam's Club about once every other month or so and this location is pretty solid! The parking lot may be a bit small but the inside feels much more spacious than a Costco IMO. We go here mainly for snacks, fruits, and household needs for the kitchen and bathroom. We are typically in and out pretty quickly and it never feels too busy here when we go. The employees are friendly and the food court food is affordable. They recently implemented a scan and go system so you scan your items through the APP and pay as well and don't have to wait it line! Came here for water since I arrived tonight to Chesapeake. Guess what they had none of? Regular bottled water. They had tiny bottles which were completely overpriced and high end water that was 4 times the price. Since I needed water, I bought a case of the overpriced ones cause there was a sale on the brand. I also got a case of coke which was also quite overpriced in my opinion. Since I am a loyal Costco shopper from Hawaii, I couldn't believe the prices here in VA were the same price or twice as much as Hawaii. I still looked around but couldn't find anything I needed so I got my drinks and left. When I had more time, I went to Costco and guess what? The prices were much cheaper than Sam's club and they had tons of stock of bottled water which I filled my cart with. Best deal of the Year at Sam's Club right now. Only $15 dollars for a club membership or $50 for a plus club membership. I had heard and seen this deal recently. As soon as I walked into the club I told the greeter I was signing up and they pointed me to the membership and customer service desk. It was a breeze signing up for a plus membership. I chose plus because it came with free curbside pickup no limit and free shipping. There were some other perks too. I was excited to join and they even convinced me to get a credit card because of all those perks too. With the credit card more money back, no foreign transaction fees, no yearly fees, and so much more. There is no reason not to get a sams club because the perks are that good. read more

I visited the SAMS Club tire center on a Saturday around 3 PM hoping to get a simple tire repair. They turned me away, saying they were too busy--which I understood. I was told to come back the next day at 10 AM and they'd take care of it. I returned as instructed, and they took my car in. Four hours later, the tire still hadn't been touched. When I asked for an update, I was told--again--that they were too busy and couldn't help me that day either. This experience revealed a complete lack of management, communication, and coordination. Every employee I spoke to shrugged and said, "That's just how it is here." If you value your time and expect even basic customer service, I strongly recommend going elsewhere. Scored a deal on 4 BF Goodrich tires with premium installation last year with lifetime free rotation and balance perks at any club. After calling too many times to count over the 3 previous days, I finally got through to Tires on Monday. Henry setup my rotation/balance appointment for our Odyssey on Friday (today) at 2pm. Upon arrival, it was super packed with seasonal shoppers. When our turn at the tire counter came (10 minutes after arrival), rep walked out to our van, then told us their lift can't do Odyssey's. No rotation. Uh, what? They DEFINITELY should have mentioned when I booked the appointment, which they later apologized for. Took 90 minutes to complete balance check. I never tried the grocery pickup option at Sam's before, but with the way Rona just hanging around grabbing people like she getting a commission, we've been trying to be extra careful. I placed an order the day before to pick up for 12, but received an email around 10am saying the order was ready early. I wasnt busy, so just headed that way. I've been coming to this store for years and never paid attention to the Pickup Reserved signs. I'm hoping they're new and I'm just not that oblivious to my surroundings. Anyways, I drove around like 5 minutes and finally had to ask someone where to go. They told me it was on the side of the store where they do the tire, so I made like a triple U turn (it was a mess) and finally parked in spot #4. Opened the app to check in with the spot number and got an error message right away. I rebooted the app, logged out and back in, but nothing worked. After a few tries I googled the store number, called them and was told they would let someone know I was out there. Waited about 25 min and decided to call back. I hadn't picked up at Sam's before so I wasn't sure about the wait time. While I was on hold someone parked beside me, and their order came out almost immediately! What tha?! While I'm still on hold with the store I asked the guy that loaded the other car about my order. I told him I called a couple times and was still waiting. That's when he told me they don't even have a phone where they bring out the orders, and no one probably knows I'm out here. I guess Customer Service didn't bother to pass on the message. He said if the app isn't working you can just use the text to let them know you're here and where you're parked. So, always opt for the text message. Total wait time was about 40 minutes. Once I talked to the guy the order was out in less than 5 minutes. He stacked everything nicely in the trunk , closed it and was off with a wave in no time at all. Even when you come in person to speak to someone, there is no one at the front desk to help you. Ordered tires and set an appointment date. On that date, we had to call to find out the tires never came in. 4 days later, we received a call stating the tires were in, however we've since been unable to reach anyone by phone or in person to get the tires put on. Unlike most gas pumps at other Sam's Club gas stations, this location has single pumps that only accommodate one car filling up at a time. In already long lines this just compounds the amount of time you wait to fill up. At the pump, you'll be prompted for your Sam's Club membership card to swipe to verify membership to get gas. You can opt to charge it to the account or use a credit card and even gift cards at the pump. I had a little trouble getting my gift card to work but the attendant on duty came over (in a leisurely stroll might I add) and assisted me. He was friendly and although I did the same steps he did, he was able to get it to accept my gift card for payment. There are trash cans next to the pumps so you can toss all of the crap that's accumulating in your car. I'd use this location again if in the area. read more

Bulk shopping is convenient for many reasons but if you are not careful you are sure to overshop. Mrs and I love Sam's club for certain items that we stock up on but if I can only get her to buy the items on the list my experience at Sam's would not be so pocket taxing! I've been a member for several years. For so long I thought it was ridiculous to pay for a membership to get discounted goods-I didn't have any extra money for that. Eventually I discovered just how wonderful this membership is. Sometimes the gas prices are up to 11 cents cheaper. Free food and drink samples are given on Saturday and Sundays. Quality name brand shoes, coats and clothing are available at a steal. Bulk meats, veggies, eggs and cheeses are guaranteed less expensive than your average grocery store. They carry Carters clothing for the babies. The fruit is usually great. If you want to know if you are paying less than the grocery store pay close attention to the price per unit (once, pound, gallon etc.) rather than the overall package price. Many employers offer a discounted membership at SAMs. Dislike: They do not accept VISA credit cards (which is usually accepted everywhere). They do accept VISA debit cards, but not for Navy Federal. MasterCard and Discover are accepted. But I was recently informed that they would stop accepting MasterCard soon-I have no idea when though. read more

Each membership club has its own perks and Sam's Club is no different. I have belong to all 3 in the area for the past 5 years. Costco, BJs, and Sam's Club. First tip, always buy your cauliflower at Sam's Club, it is consistently at least 50 cents cheaper a head than BJs. Perhaps a silly thing to note, or not, if you love cauliflower (or follow Keto and make faux mashed potatoes all the time)? Produce does tend to be more economical at Sam's than at Walmart and BJs which is almost always $.20 to $.75 cents more per produce package. I know this because I go to BJs for my must haves first like Rao's 40oz and organic chicken broth, Finlandia light Swiss cheese and Finlandia butter triple pack (no one else carries this and we LOVE it). After, I then go to Sam's because there is something I'm missing or want, for ex, wanted lump crab meat and BJs only has chicken of the sea brand sourced in Indonesia. No thanks, don't care if it says wild caught. For the record, Sam's club had no lump crab meat whatsoever. Costco is the clear winner there with Phillips lump crab fo around $22. Each has pro's and con's. BJs has a selection of fresh herbs and more premium products in produce, sometimes. BJs also carries more premium meats and cold cuts such as Applegate which Sam's does not. Costco is the clear leader for meat, seafood, organic, variety, selection, uniqueness, and sometimes price. It's not exactly comparing apples to apples. Second tip,buy your gas at BJ's. My car takes premium. I consistently save at least $.50/gallon going to BJs, which also happens to be the most convenient to me. Third, and back to Sam's. As Sam's is what this review is actually about...has my favorite rotisserie chicken though I hear Cosco's has the best price and they actually lose money on it but customers keep coming back so they don't increase the price. Sam's also had some amazing January 2020 deals on Samsung 65" TV for less than $600 and 75" for under 1k. All three are competitive with electronics but Costco offers the best selection of the three and free warranty when you pay with their Credit Card, a $600 value. Now, Let me tell you where Sam's beats both its competitors this week AND historically from my experience. Sam's has the best quality for price in Men's outdoor wear, especially jackets. Yesterday, I picked up 3 excellent jackets. A lighter weight fleece black jacket by Free Country for $14.98. Another heavier, double layer, water resistant, multi layer and multi zipper (good looking dark gray winter jacket) also by Free Country - $19.81! What? I checked that price 3 times. And a warm easy to roll up and store when needed as I travel in and out of people's homes for work, black puffer jacket (not Down), by Nautica for $29.98. These are by far the best quality, styles, fit and deals I have found in outerwear between the 3 membership wholesale clubs this Winter Season. I basically bought 3 nice crisp to cold to much colder and rainy weather jackets for $65 plus tax, much less than the typical price of just 1 with less features. Why 4 stars? Sam's has the least appealing environment and feel. When trying on clothes, it is the only one that has no mirror anywhere. I walked around for 10 minutes looking. Staff is not as customer service oriented and often not at all aware of or considerate to shoppers. Overall, we keep our membership because it balances out. And we are also kind of addicted to the Member's Mark fresh cilantro salsa 48oz for $5.98 (and Keto compliant if that's your thing) as well as the Jack Snack 100% real cheese snacks for $ 7.48 that they make and are delicious. Membership is $45 a year and we more than save that by shopping at Sam's. You just have to pick and choose and don't rave without your awesome fresh zoodles either. read more

My fiance purchased a lovely ring for me here. It was too big so we had it resized- a service they offer at no charge. My negative experience stems from the fact that when I took the ring to get resized during my lunch break there was no one at the counter. After waiting 30 minutes a lady appeared and was clearly frustrated. She was managing the optical register, tire register and jewelry ... they were obviously short staffed. After 9 days and not hearing back, my fiance and I return to the store to see if the ring was ready. Once again, there was a wait (15 min). It was 730 PM and we were informed the jewelry person was on her lunch break. The store was closing at 830. We decided to stop and purchase a hot dog drink at 7:50. The woman at the cash register informed us that the hot dog machine was being cleaned and they were not making any more hot dogs. We opted for pizza and a drink. Upon putting our pizza on a plate she said the pizza looked too dry and threw it away right in front of us and asked us if we wanted to get a different slice. At that point we had already paid and proceeded to accept her offer, reluctantly. I went to fill my cup with sweet tea. Water came out. Then I tried lemonade. Water came out. Let's start out by saying this: This is honestly the worst Sam's Club I've personally ever set foot in. I knew from the beginning this was going to be rough when I pulled in the parking lot and there was garbage strewn across the parking lot and unattended carts blocking parking spots. I went in to find the items I was looking for, which was the easiest part of this trip. I used the checkout on the app, which is a great feature, and headed outside, bypassing the lines for the registers. My cart, which had one wheel that didn't function well, and I accidentally bump the cart assist machine, unknowing there was a Sam's Club employee behind it. The man screamed at me "Thanks Asshole, I have a fucking rod in my back" at me. I apologized and started heading back to my car, and he started following me back to my car! He started yelling at me as I loaded my purchases in my car, and I began to fear for my safety. I pulled away and moved my car out of his view, and immediately "pulled a Karen" and asked to speak to a manager inside. I reported what happened today, and she said she would take immediate action. I needed my tire patched on my car. The tire and battery shop is temporarily closed unless it emergent....like a flat tire. I work in healthcare and this is the only time I can get this fixed.
