Perhaps I'm not as accustomed to bulk-shopping at places like this (despite being to other BJ's locations), but I have to say... this one is WEIRD! The ceilings are very high. Most of the store is dimly lit, which I actually kinda like. It is a very large place. The walls above the fridges go up to some pipes attached to the ceiling, I don't know of many stores that are like that. If you tend to buy in bulk, then you probably won't mind the high prices. It's not the place to go if you're just wanting to do some casual shopping. The grocery section, mainly the cold foods, is one of the oddest experiences I've ever had anywhere. The surroundings are very non-descript. Barely anything but a bunch of blank surfaces. If I didn't know any better, I wouldn't be able to tell what store it even is by the looks of it. The workers dress in solid white coats, hats, masks, and gloves and they resemble either a group of orderlies, or scientists. They all seemed to move very stiffly and make no sound. It seemed like one of those strange sci-fi movies where there's a lab conducting experiments, of the top-secret government variety. And are just using the guise of a grocery store to cover it up. Then... there was the robot. I forget its name, but it followed me around the store wherever I went, making "meep-meep" noises and it was really aggravating. After nearly an hour of being stalked by this thing, I turned around and yelled at it, called it names, and told it to leave me alone. If I recall correctly, it immediately got a frowny face on its screen, made a sad weepy noise, and then scurried off. I later saw it in the parking lot, asking for rides. I would go back, but only for the sheer oddity value. It was like a slightly cool fever dream. read more

This is a brief review because I am a frequent visitor because this location and the people who work here are so amazing that my purchases alone support the cause - smiling! The customer service is great. The store is also clean, well-stocked, and well-lighted, so you can see everywhere without reading glasses. The employees walk the aisles and offer help if you need it. If you don't, they keep restocking or cleaning, and they are friendly. The savings on gas prices are enough to get back our money we pay annually. The people who come here to get gas are so darn courteous even during the gas shortages. One time, a gentleman saved me after wasps flew out of my gas cap area and stung me when I opened it to pump gas. Anyway, great store, great gas prices, wonderful neighbors. Come out and see their smiles and catch a sale on brand-name shoes and clothes. read more

I've now visited the Norfolk store a few times in the past six months and ready to bump them up to a weak on par, My first experience was trying to get a cart unglued from another one as other customers struggled. They leave them out in the elements with no shelter is my guess. VB store has a canopy to keep weather off them. Friendly staff greeted me with a wipe to clean the cart handle. The store is organized differently than my regular in Virginia Beach, so be prepared. Overall cleanliness good. Organization was as expected if your a BJ's customer, just a different layout. They need not have one item I came for and a manager I spoke with said she would look into it. So I did it up having to go to the other BJ's that week New self checkouts are nice and handicap accessible if in a wheel chair. Virginia Beach does not have them. Norfolk BJ's will not replace my regular, but it's an option. 2.5 rounding up. read more

3/13/21: I usually have our groceries delivered, but I was in the area and shopped myself. I rarely go on weekends because I can't stand large crowds. Luckily, it wasn't that bad. Upon entering, you're given a Lysol wipe to rub down your cart. After that, there are coupons there doe you to look over at the front of the store. I did my shopping really quick & made my way to the self-checkout line. My coupon didn't work, so luckily there was a supervisor there to help. Checkout was quick and I was in and out in 30 or so minutes. Their vending machine had 25 & 50 cent waters which was awesome because I was parched & dying of thirst. It was much better than having to pay $1.50+ like at other places. The store was neat/organized/clean & the floors were marked to encourage social distancing. Hand sanitizer was available too. I love BJ's! Always well stocked, good purchases for the money and friendly service. This store was no exception, still got more for ya money here. I also like this particular store because it is HUGE! I'm use to another BJ's store it Hampton, it is a little smaller and I know where everything is. This store took some getting use to because its arranges just a little different. I loved how the place was just stocked with everything and any BJ's usually is. As always, I spent way more than I intended but that's ok, it was on stuff that I would eventually use. Though they were stocked on a lot of things, the brands are those you normally don't see. I bought a television from bjs a few years ago. And it stopped working. I asked at the membership counter if they would help me to find the receipt to see if still under warranty. The lady refused to help me. They track everything you buy and have a record connected to your membership. We got into a heated argument. I walk out that day without satisfaction from my encounter. This was Norfolk Va. Store. I then went to the Virginia Beach store and did some shopping, and when I was checking out, I found that she canceled my membership behind my back. Without a refund. So, the membership counter opened up a new card for me, and I paid her for a new membership. So I had an appointment for a rotation with the tire department because I bought my tires there. I sat in the waiting room for about an hour. Then, the attendant refused to rotate tires because of a nail in the tread of one. Said tire would have to be replaced. I fixed it with a plug in 5 minutes. Today, a week later, I tried to load coupons on to my membership card online and find that my new membership is not working. I have no membership. beware of joining such a club. By the way, when she canceled my original membership, it erased all orders from my record. So tires, tvs no more record. read more

I had tires installed couple of months ago and it took 4 trips and two air pressure sensors to stop the warning from coming back on. Light recently came back on so I took it in and was told right rear sensor needs to be replaced. No problem I paid the $60 and didn't make it out of the building now your spare needs a sensor. I love BJ's because they have a lot of name brand products in bulk and I like their store brand. I had ordered a birthday cake from BJ's and was a little worried that the cake wouldn't turn it tight. The manager had said they are scanning on the cakes now instead of hand decorating them, because people aren't good at making cakes. Well I told her don't advertise a cake and tell me you can't do it... The cake they had advertised had to be hand decorated be an that was what I wanted. She showed me what the cake would look like scanned. I found it unacceptable. We've been members here since 2009. We shop here often and we usually find the items that we need. Unfortunately for our finances, we usually find more than what we went in for! The warehouse has always been clean, no matter which area we're in.The only employees we've ever had to talk with have been at the service desk and of course, our cashier. They've all been very helpful. In April of this year, my husband decided to try ordering his prescription eyeglasses from the Optical Department. He was very pleased with the service, the selection of frames, and the professionalism of the employees. He says he'd recommend it to anyone looking to save on eyeglasses. read more

I don't have an issue with the store itself. It's the app. But there wasn't an option on the all store to leave a review. So here I am. I read the reviews on the App Store before I downloaded. There were a significant amount of negative reviews but were about 2 years old so I thought surely by now the app has been fixed. Nope. I had it all of maybe one minute before I deleted it. I went to the my bjs section and scanned my card, put in my name and zip code. When I clicked continue it said there was a problem with linking my membership or a problem looking to my membership. Either way if you can't even creat an account and link your membership what is the point of having this app? I was looking forward to all the promised benefits of the app. It's ridiculous how shabby it actually is. I used to be a member a while back but couldn't afford it until recently. It's only been a few months but it's been long enough to have my information in the system and for the app to recognize it. I'm actually quite angry. My mother introduced me this club that I went there I ended up getting my 2 month trial membership until I can come back and get a annual membership. After I got the card, I was able to go around the store and find batteries at a pretty good price for a large quantity of them, and also I was looking around at other things like electronics that I wish I had, and also they had some pretty good Android tablets at good prices, but still steep. I was looking at the meats and produce and they sell them a ok prices, but still steep, but they are in large quantities like if you were planning a big party or family barbecue during the summer months. The thing I do not like, but I will pass along the suggestion to them, that they need to make the incontinence supply selection and other medical supplies selection bigger, and they also need to offer family restrooms for people with disabilities who are members there. Also they need need to come up with some discount rewards program like other grocery stores do. read more
