Today's checkout experience at Walmart was extremely frustrating. I walked to the store, shopped for my groceries, and went through checkout. My total was $46.99, and Walmart offered a 1,000-point reward that reduced my total to $36.99. I accepted it, inserted my debit card, and the terminal processed the payment and told me to remove my card. Then I was told the transaction did not go through. I immediately checked my bank account, and it showed a pending $36.99 charge from Walmart Supercenter. I explained that my account was showing the transaction, but I was told I needed to run my card again. The problem was that my available funds were already tied up by the pending charge. I could not simply "try again" when that money was no longer available to me. The situation was not handled with understanding or a clear explanation. The manager eventually canceled the transaction, but that does not instantly return the money to my account. I left Walmart with no groceries after walking there, shopping, and having my items bagged. Customers need better communication and support when payment issues happen. A pending transaction is confusing enough -- being left without your purchase and without access to your funds makes an already difficult situation even worse. read more

Walmart membership program is a waste of money and time. We bought into their membership program and every delivery was a headache ending in two air conditioners delivered on the wrong day, left outside in a deluge rainstorm with little to no assistance from Walmart. We were asked to physically tote these beasts to FedEx for a return and were not able to get replaced without paying another 160.00 for the upsurge in prices, probably due to the heat uptick. I try not to use Amazon but we ordered the same air conditioners from them at the original price and it arrived as promised, on time and in good condition. I know that shopping at Walmart can sometimes be challenging given the size of this location in South Philly and the number of shoppers-it can get super busy. However I've learned to go mid morning at the latest, like today. I found the staff to be particularly helpful in looking for a specialist spice, the staff in both the cosmetic and the electronics department were very nice and really helpful. Some of the reviews mention the staff sometimes not being friendly but I often notice the customers not being exactly friendly either. A smile and a "thank you" can work wonders in making people feel appreciated. read more

This Walmart ruins going to any Walmart for me. Customer service is one of the worst. Very dirty and disorganized inside. Workers argue with customers and other workers. Very ghetto. I've seen fights and shoplifts here. Prob the worst shopping experience you will get. If you want to pick up, it will be a long wait as the workers take their sweet ass time or seem not to know where your order is. The last pick up took more than 40 minutes. I was waiting in the self-checkout line and a register that was being used suddenly didn't light-up green (ready to use) when the person stepped away. I stepped over to the attendant to ask if it was usable. She was on her phone watching videos. No joke, when I said "excuse me, can..." she put her finger up as to say "one minute" while she finished watching her video. No manager anywhere, so I had to keep my "Karen" on the inside. Basing this review of Walmart based on other Walmarts I've visited for the expectations baseline. The amount of people in the store can be a bit overwhelming at times. Prices are always good, especially food. I've noticed with items like electronics are always priced accordingly, however, I can find a superior quality for a lesser price by checking mail circulars and fliers. I must've gotten lucky today, I expected a zoo but it wasn't too bad. There were tons of employees around, which is rare for Walmart. Only strange thing today was all their flashlights were in a locked cabinet for which I had to wait for an employee to get the key. Another good thing is they finally got bags! I couldn't agree with Shantell's review more. This Walmart location is trash. I placed an online pick up order for 8-9pm pick up window. I received the email that it was ready at 851pm. in which that was too late for me to make my other obligations. The next day, I chatted with a Walmart online rep to discuss the issue. In addition, when I logged into my account it said I had no order that exists, but the rep was able to find my order. They told me "rest assured, we hold your orders for 7 days, you can go with your pick up information and it will be ready for you" When I arrived to the pick up area, I was unable to check in on the app for curbside since the app thinks I have no existing order. I walked up to talk to a staff and explained the situation and he replied "we probably put it back already. Someone else just came for orders placed 2 days ago and it's gone" I replied " so you can go pick it now? I confirmed with you all before I drove all the way here to pick up the order" He replied " so you want me to go pick it now?" um.. yes...??? If you can avoid this Walmart, do so. The only thing I found irritable is a parked near the entrance police car, and cops were nowhere to be found for quite some time. You have to literally duck from the birds before you come into this Walmart! *Big sigh*! It's chaotic with lots going on and if you have a question forget it! I literally made sure not to have a cart so I can walk in and get what I need and walk right out. The parking lot is filthy, it's so congested inside, I had a question for one of the employees and she barely answered. I can say one of the great additions that Walmarts added was the self-checkouts. Not that they necessarily need it with the many registers but if you do not have cashiers what's the point? A necessary evil. This Walmart is towards end of a large (by city standards) shopping district. Driving in is a little treacherous with every one going every which way between all the stores, so be careful. There is plenty of surface lot parking available, but given the location is RIGHT by the water - there are a TON of seagulls flocking always! You're lucky if your car doesn't get pooped on! Inside, it's a bit chaotic - lots of people and the workers are spread thin. There is some organization to the departments, but I've found myself running around looking for items before ultimately giving up. Wish there was more help available so I'm not aimlessly searching. The selection of items is hit or miss, but I do like that there is a grocery section - helps to grab some items along with anything outside of food. It's the closest Walmart to me, and sometimes it's the only option when you're searching for specific items. I wish I could pop in and out without much hassle, but tend to always have trouble. If possible, would avoid - but keep as an option if all else fails. read more

I would give this store 0 stars if I could. The store is always about 50% or less stocked -- the frozen foods aisles (ALL of them) are almost completely empty. Produce (when they have it) goes bad in a day or less. You can count on a 15 minute minimum waiting in line to pay for what purchases you are able to find in the store. No carts, and the people supposed to be collecting them are goofing off in the parking lot and/or on their cell phones. My suggestion? Close this store and relocate to somewhere else in South Philly with all new staff who receive better training and managers who know how to order & keep shelves stocked! read more

Is there a negative one here? This place is a nightmare on it's best day. Not just the crowds but the lines to check out and customer service. You would never see this in a South Jersey Walmart store..i've seen managers in jersey jump on registers to get the lines down. Customer service line..forget it..even worse. Shelves are empty half the time and when you ask someone that works there where something is they look at you like you have two heads and either ignore you or say i don't know. Crazy to venture out on Black Friday but... it was a truly positive experience!!! Every cash register was staffed, hardly any lines, and the shelves were the most stocked ever! I had to ask some employees where items were and I am thrilled to report that they were friendly, knowledgeable and a pleasure to talk to!!! As a teacher, I shop here often for items, food, and supplies for my 3rd-grade classroom. It was so nice to be able to find everything I needed and get out quickly. read more

If you want to find what you want, this is not the location for you. Even when you order online for in-store pickup they still don't have have it. Carts? Don't have those either. It's sad because this Walmart is located in an area where if you were running errands for your entire house you could get it done since they share the parking lot with so many major brands. However, if you have to mosey on in to this Wally World it is definitely a chore. Once you play scavenger hunt for a cart you are overwhelmed buy the amount of individuals that flock to this location. It's ALWAYS packed. Although the store has what you need...the inventory is in boxes so you really can't get to what you need. Smh. Most of the time I come here is only because I'm in the area. I was excited to move to a city with a Walmart! They carry so many products from south Louisiana. I didn't have a car coming from NYC, so it was super convenient and healthier to just have my grocery delivered. I even got Walmart + , because I planned on buying everything from Walmart. Then only half my grocery would show up and I would have to report it. I would call customer service furious and They'd give me a credit like I could fill my stomach with that. Then the drivers were a few minutes late and then a hour late and later and today they didn't show up AT ALL. Waited from 4pm to 10:30pm and NO GROCERY! Had to cancel on my side hustle to wait on the driver who never came. because I'm out of food. Now they are saying wait 48 hours and THEN they'll file a report??!!?!? On what planet does anyone expect to schedule a food delivery and then are okay with it showing up WHENEVER? Why does the Christopher Columbus location in Philly have such sh*tty service? Unemployment is 4.1 and they can't find reliable employees?? Management needs to go and they need to clean house, because their are people who WANT to work and gracious about having a job. read more

I am a driver for ubereats and waited over an hour to pickup an order. when I spoke to the employees they said Walmart had cut their hours and they had four people serving almost 20 delivery drivers an hour. four of them loading cars and shopping for delivery customers. they don't pick up the phone and there is no way to communicate with anyone. the owner of this Walmart should be ashamed. read more

Based on other reviews, I was bracing myself for a post-apocalyptic experience. To my surprise, when I got there, I was only met with a semi post-apocalyptic one, since maybe just under half of the store was low on stock, and things that were in stock were actually quite well-organized, with the exception of just a few stray objects laying around some aisles. While it's a bit out of the way, and sure, only 2 registers are open in the entire store at a time, this is still a great place to shop if you are on a budget and may find it necessary to temporarily set aside deep thoughts about this company's business practices in the scope of humanity in order to obtain some necessities. I had been to some other Walmarts years ago, but after 4 years in Philly, I finally set foot here because I needed a bunch of sheer curtain panels that I somehow couldn't find anywhere else. Also, while I was expecting a stretch of wasteland instead of a parking lot, our parking experience was actually quite smooth, both on the way in and on the way out. In this manner, my first visit to this Walmart location since the beginning of time surpassed my expectations by a long shot, and that is a feat worthy of praise. read more

Someone wrote a quick tip for this... um... "place"... that said "Don't go after work or on weekends". Allow me to further simplify the directive: Don't go. Period. Ever. Well, if you are doing a thesis on what "third world" actually means in the 21st century a visit here might give you some valuable insight, but make sure you wear a rubber suit and pop some antibiotics for a few days afterward. Some drug that scrubs your memory would also be helpful, but I'm not really qualified to recommend anything in that regard. I am not a fan of Wal-Mart in general, but this one is beyond description for it's decrepitude. Going here will cause you to question the very nature of human society, and whether or not you are in fact a direct witness to the downfall of civilization itself.
