I like the low prices of Walmart compared to other stores. However, I am often hesitant to visit this Walmart because their items are frequently out of stock (even long before the pandemic), despite their website saying that the items are at the site. Their uncertain item availability makes me waste my time and gas money, because I may need to make multiple visits in order to buy an item. (I calculated the gas money spent per visit, and their low price quickly disappears after a few failed visits.) It would be nice if Walmart either keeps things in stock or makes their website to present an accurate item availability. read more

First of all, the encounter I had with operator 0192 (she 'conveniently' has her name tag turned inside so I could not see it) but definitely operator #0192, had the audacity to be upset that she had to help me with a money service and was so rude and condescending. The last two times I've dropped off film to be developed it took over 4 weeks even though I was told it would take 5 business days. On top of that, I would call the store multiple times and no one would answer. Because of this I would have to go into the store and ask about my photos and the employees would offer no help at all. I am so grateful for Walmart Store #1700 in Poway, California! My husband and I have been using the pickup service for all of our grocery and household needs for almost two months now. I am currently 9 months pregnant, and with a baby on the way and my weakened immune system, we have felt very uneasy about being in crowded places, including busy stores. The pickup service has been such a blessing! Every time I pick up, the employees are quick, kind, and professional, and we have been very happy with any substitutions that they needed to make. We usually end up with even better versions of the items that we originally selected! Thank you, Poway Walmart, for working hard and being there when we need you during these crazy times. Totally sucks! It's ridiculously staffed and has only 2 registers going in the evening when the rush of people are coming in. One of the cashiers is handicap, which is fine, but only if you have an appropriate amount of registers open to accommodate the amount of shoppers!!!!! There are huge crates of merchandise being hauled around and the employees hauling them do not yield to shoppers, instead they act like they don't see you and will run you down. For a store this size (Poway), I would think they would offer more than 3 or 4 measly motorized carts for people with disabilities. I have been having difficulty accessing a cart that even functions, as they're so old and used up they don't work very well. I asked one of the employees if they had any more and was told they've requested more, but management hasn't responded. The employee also stated that people end up shopping at nearby Costco instead, which is what I've been doing. Costco, on the other hand, just replaced all the old carts and they're offering more of them for use. They need to get more carts sufficient for the great number of shoppers at that store. read more

For a handicap person the riding carts always broke never repaired . Had to wait 2 hrs for one to be available and when I first got it the battery died . With the amount of elderly and handicap I would think Walmart could do a better job in serving their customers . read more

DO NOT USE GROCERY PICKUP This "service" is an absolute joke. This was the final straw and made me write this review to inform the public so hopefully no one else has to experience this nonsense. On multiple occasions I arrived toward the end of my pickup window only to find that my order wasn't ready, which is strange considering they provide the pickup window. I think I waiting just over 3 hours once. Fun. And TODAY, I arrived to pickup my order after work and had to call 4-5 times before someone picked up the phone. When I provided the name for the order they said that they had to look for it and hung up the phone. I called back to inquire yet again and was told that my order had already been picked up as they had multiple orders under the same FIRST NAME. Apparently they are NOT checking people ID's and are giving away peoples grocery's. Come to think of it, I can only recall being asked for my ID once when using this service. And instead of rectifying the issue I was told I would have to call customer service to reschedule the pickup or to be reimbursed. After waiting on the phone for 45 minutes for customers service I was told that a refund would take 5-7 days. Cool, I guess I'll be waiting to receive my refund so that I can buy groceries. This store has become unacceptable! Most of the staff seem very unhappy! Often on Saturday or Sunday mid morning many shelves are empty. I heard a customer who only wanted a bag of ice ask a cashier what would be the fastest way for him to buy it and get out of there and her reply was "how should I know?" Sad! I don't do pick up, just go in to do my shopping. I think these guys are doing the best they can do. The greeters are friendly (they acknowledge my presence when I enter and either smile, say Welcome, or good morning or whatever). Some hours during peak times there are wait lines at self checkout- but half the people who choose to do this either cannot comprehend self checkout or slow the lines complaining that something doesn't scan and require help to scan a simple barcode. Which just makes everything go slower and make everyone else behind them in a bad mood. I'll be the first to be upset at a rude checker - but many times I come in and people are just plain rude to the people working here, as if they are in control of state mandates or requirements limiting people inside, or complaining to staff there is no toilet paper or pasta when when they can't keep it on the shelves due to hoarding. The staff that do all the shopping inside stores do not play with their phones or mess around lolligagging (can't think of a better word here) but they are busy rushing around trying to fill everyone's orders who decide that shopping online is so much more convenient or safer during a pandemic. I shop here and the Target Poway stores frequently, each for different things, and the biggest thing I notice is the shoppers at Target never complain about the single slow uninterested checker and the huge self check lines, yet every complains about Walmart and their employees. I think all the employees here at Poway are polite and helpful, especially in the electronics section. And right now deserve our gratitude for working for us during these difficult times, with frankly hard to work for customers. read more

Not sure why all the hate on Walmart. This Poway location is my favorite here in the greater SD area - it's clean, lots of parking, and a full "supercenter" with groceries and other stuff. Definitely less "trashy" than some of the other Walmarts I've been to. I always park near the garden center and grab a cart. This Walmart has some of the nicest carts I've ever saw at a Walmart! They roll without shaking and the wheels have been "replaced" to fix any issues. As silly as it sounds, I like having a cart that doesn't make me feel like I'm driving a Jeep. Staff is always helpful even though it's obvious some of them aren't excited about being there. I always try and be polite / conversational with the cashiers / customer service desk - they're used to people being rude and condescending all day so a little friendliness goes a long way. Maybe that's just the aloha spirit in me. Well stocked, only ran across things being out of stock a couple times and usually for small stuff. Lots of cheap solutions to things - I usually get my box goods here - garbage bags, laundry soap, soda, etc. One thing to mention - they do stock in the evenings. That usually means less people traffic and more pallets of stock in the aisles. I'd rather dodge pallets than people. They usually only have a couple lanes open for checkout in the late hours so there can be a little wait at times. read more

On Sunday March 1st 2020, I bought a Poise active liner 26 counts with valid $3 coupon. A cashier name Joyce rang me up including other item I purchase. I checked the receipt only after I went out to parking lot, so I came back asking Joyce for it. She checked the receipt before she opened her register, took out the coupon and stack it on my receipt saying "go to customer service, that's all I can do". And line on customer service was very long. There were two staff on their jobs but one staff was stuck serving two male customers. An assistant name ASHLEY came helping that staff and then helping me. She said "the system reject your coupon because you did not purchase as stated". Then she cross checked the liners if it is matching to coupon. Here is what she told me : 1. you have to buy active liners and yours is not, and retract it after check the words on packaging, 2. you have to choose min 26 liners and again she retract it after check the amount and last 3. she told me to get Poise brand, not the other and retract it. That is ridiculous, really. Can she read well? She then asked another employee name Leslie to get another poise that she think "correct" because mine was "not correct". I explained that I used to buy poise liners with coupon in Walmart in Shawline (clairemont mesa) and never got any problem. It supposed to be the same in all walmart San Diego but no idea in this poway. What Ashley showed me "correct one" is one size larger than mine. I told her, I have to buy liners that fits my size but she did not respond. Then Leslie helped to scan the "correct one" according to Ashley, but it rejected too. So Leslie had to get another Poise and again, rejected. Then Ashley said "I cannot help you mam, no items are matching with your coupon. Do you want to return it? I can help you now" Basically she refused to help because according to her, it is the right procedure. Then my husband asked for a manager, Ashley claimed she is the area manager who supervise all employees inside the store. My husband does not believe if a huge walmart has only one manager, so he asked for another manager than her. No one came. When we almost left, a male support manager name Kael walking toward us. He checked everything is perfectly match each other, and he asked Ashley why she did not give to me. She was just quiet. It took more than an hour for us until finally met Kael. For important information, Always Liners company also issue the same good value coupon. Always and Poise coupons basically helps customer to save money a lot buying these woman necessities, but coupon's value never greater than the item's price. read more

I have a business and shopped here over 20 years but after waiting on 3 cases to be opened 1 took 10 minutes to find someone, having to pay 3 different times, and skipped another on my list behind a case because i was OVER IT. Today if I could give Poway Walmart negative 5 stars I would. I had found a handbag in a shopping cart when I was walking to my car. I took the handbag and checked for identification (which it had along with some other personal items) When I went in the store to report it I had asked for security and the Associate that I spoke to asked it she could help me. Showing her the handbag, I explained that I found it in the parking lot. She then told me "give it to me" I asked her if she would give me a receipt stating they now had accepted the handbag. She told me she would not give me a receipt stating Walmart had taken the lost handbag. She told be to give her the handbag and she will lock it up in the back. So I told her I will not give her the handbag without a receipt. She still refused and I told her she isn't getting the handbag without giving me a receipt then I will go to the Sheriff's Station since I know they will issue me a hand receipt when I turn it in. I'm walking back to my car and a young lady walks up and asks me if I had found a handbag in the parking lot. I asked her for her name and she stated it and it matched the identification that was in the handbag. I explained to the owner I was getting ready to go to the Sheriff's station because Walmart refused to give me a hand receipt for the bag. If this is the way Walmart deals with Good Samaritans when they turn in lost items this may later keep someone from turning in lost property. I wanted a hand receipt because I have a job that requires a security clearance and I don't want to risk losing it. I think if Walmart doesn't have a policy for giving receipts to people who turn in lost items turned in they should start. read more

I totally agree with most of the comments about this location. Yes you can find pretty much what you want/need there IF it is on the shelves. This place use to be so different but has gone down hill. Shelves are always empty with empty boxes everywhere and the shelves barren. Very disappointing every week! Why aren't there people in the store at night restocking when the traffic I would think would be minimal. I have had a negative experience with the new cosmetic policy as well being corralled off in a little area and not being able to pay with my other items and rudely told about the new policy. Only once though as I am going to Target for those items now. And the animals in the store is definitely out of control! People are bringing their "pet children" to the store and it is not acceptable! There needs to be someone capable of controlling this as they are walking around the food areas with their pets not service dogs! Wal-Mart you need to do something about this location as it is looking just like your Escondido Nordahl location - disgusting! This is a super Walmart aka they provide absolutely everything. They've got a pretty solid selection of ethnic foods and will have what you need or at least a substitute for what you need. The cashiers are usually really friendly. However, the lines are always ridiculous. They never seem to have enough lanes open and every time we come here, we can count on waiting in line for at least ten minutes. Also, it's a Walmart so it's pretty dirty. read more
