A VERY rare practice and eye frame optical shop: just 15 minutes from downtown St Paul. Dr Alan…read moreLee (35+/-), educated at Univ of Wisconsin Madison Med School and the New England School of Optometry Boston, handles eye EMERGENCIES, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, pink eye, foreign object removal etc etc. I needed to have a very complex eye lense made because of an elevator accident 5 years ago. So it took a lot of research to find a SKILLED optician with full medical training. I wanted to AVOID at all cost going to a MASS MERCHANT like Pearle Vision, etc etc. I was shocked to find Dr Alan Lee's shop and practice so close to 94 East on White Bear Lake Road, and it was SPACIOUS modern with a carefully planned broad selection of glass frames from designer to moderate. (They also carry contact lenses.) I have a background years ago in fashion merchandising ( BloomingdalesNYC right out of college), and i found the selection surprisingly very good. Dr Lee majored in biology and neurobiology at U of Wisconsin Madison Med School and received his Doctor of Optometry in Boston at the highly respected New England College of Optometry. He was relaxed, friendly, not rushed and carefully checked all details of my prescription and exact placement of the various complex components of my special lenses. He has an assistant to help and appointments are advised. They accept all insurance and i had zero problems with this process. I received my new frames and lenses in less than 2 weeks. This is a rare find.

It was that time of year again.. time to get an eye and contacts exam and buy new everything. I…read morealways dread this because my prescription is so awful and changes every year, so I always need a new contact prescription and new glasses. On top of that, I hate wearing glasses because even after paying extra for the thinner lens, my lenses are so thick that I look ridiculous wearing them. This year was different. My insurance changed so I looked for a new eye care place near our home in Maplewood. I came across this location and chose it because they had Saturday hours and good deals through my insurance. My eye exam was quick and painless, and I came out with a new glasses and contacts prescription. I went to pick our glasses. Instead of searching through a ton of mediocre frames and waiting in line for what seems forever to get someone to assist you, I was helped quickly by someone that understands my style and need for a frame that goes well with my thick lenses. She walked me through all of my options and got me the cheapest set of the best glasses possible (anti reflective, thinner lenses, the whole 9 yards). After ordering them, I was led to the counter where I also ordered contacts and was given a rebate form to send in once I received them. A week later, my contacts arrived at my home and less than two weeks later, my glasses arrived. They are amazing! For literally years, probably 15 to give perspective, I've only worn glasses at night because I hate how I couldn't see as well with them and how bad they looked on me. Now I wear them whenever my eyes are tired or just for fun! It's so nice to be able to give my eyes a break, especially when I work overnights or long hours in the hospital. I highly recommend this place. They have a huge selection of awesome glasses, service is quick and painful, and the staff are all super nice and eager to help. So glad I came here!

She was full of energy, excitement and had great customer service. After ordering my new pair of glasses frames I had them clean my current pair of glasses and see if they could fix one of the screws. This was my second attempt to bring them in and get them fixed. I was so happy when the manager gave them an attempt to fix them and she did it. I love the designer frame selection! Great crew!

Glasses got chewed up when he was a puppy, came here, had new glasses in 1-2 hours. I explained this was somewhat of an emergency situation, and was told that I couldn't get new glasses without doing an eye exam. I came in with my prescription, it has been the same for a long time. I've also had an exam within the past 2 years or so, so I'm confident in its validity. The young woman I spoke to was so unhelpful and so unwilling to work with me. Frames and lenses are expensive enough, add in an exam I don't need, and we're treading in price prohibitive waters. I understand glasses are a medical device and the importance of valid prescriptions, but a little flexibility and humanity would have been nice. I'm not asking for nuclear launch codes, I just want to be able to see! I ended up leaving and going to the Rosedale location. Told them the same story, showed them the same prescription, and they got me new glasses in a little over an hour. No exam needed. Everyone there was so pleasant and helpful. They made a very stressful situation so much better. I've been going to the Maplewood location for years but I won't be going back. Rosedale is farther away, but well worth the drive for the superior customer service I recieved.
