The light fixture over our sink was not working so I went to Walnut Creek lighting to source a new one. While I was in there I spoke to a really nice gentleman who happened to be the owner (Behrang) and explained to him my situation with the light fixture and he told me to bring it in to see if it could be fixed (I really liked the fixture). Fast forward a few weeks and I did just that, I brought it it with the intention of getting it repaired. He put in a new light bulb, tested the fixture and the halogen transformer, both parts worked and didn't need to be repaired. We moved to New York and asked Walnut Creek Lighting to help with the lighting in our apartment. Behrang, the owner, shipped us the lights that we bought and taught us how to install them ourselves. It went about a smooth as expected except that I needed a philips head screw driver for the install and had to get it from the hardware store. He even sent the light bulbs for the lights for free. We purchased a fairly expensive light fixture for our dining room, got it home and it sat, unopened in our garage for 8 months (getting it installed was clearly not a huge priority.). Yesterday, the electrician arrived and as soon as we opened the box, we realized the fixture was WAY too big for our space. Since it had been 8 months, I was not very hopeful about my prospects for returning/exchanging it. I called Walnut Creek Lighting anyway and they could not have been nicer or more helpful. After explaining that the fixture could not be returned to the manufacturer (they only have 21 days to do that), they offered to put it on display and sell it in their store. They would charge us a reasonable restocking fee and give us a store credit for the remainder. The in-store experience when we returned it was equally helpful and kind. The owner told us that he just wanted us to be happy with our purchase. We ordered the same fixture in the next size down and actually ended up getting some money back (very unexpected). This could have been such an awful experience, but Walnut Creek Lighting made it one to be praised. We were so pleasantly surprised that it caused us to write our first ever YELP review (that's this one). Waaaay better selection than the chain lighting store! The clerk at WC Lighting helped me find a modern bathroom fixture that matched my style and brightness requirements and was reasonably within my budget. They ordered it and they called a week or so later when the fixture came in. It's now installed and looking/functioning well. The showroom isn't huge, but it does have a relatively good selection. I imagine they have tons of catalogs if you don't see what you're looking for. Easy parking too. read more

This store carries a huge selection of lighting (indoor and out) at all price points. Our house was very poorly lighted and I sought their help in redesigning the whole home's lighting plan. They have a secret weapon at this store and her name is Alissa Carlos. She is a lighting designer and she really knows her stuff. She spent an hour in our home assessing our needs and came up with a comprehensive lighting plan which she emailed to me, along with attached photos of suggested fixtures and a price list. Her suggestions were just superb. We took their advice and used Marc Croke to install our lighting, which was a big ( two and a half day) job. He was great. Highly recommended. I got recessed lights from this company. I paid them a fee fo $300 for a lighting place for 7 kitchen lights. When the lights that they specified were installed they hummed. I talked to them about this and they told me another (expensive) piece of equipment could be installed that would stop the problem. It did not, so I returned it. They had no idea how to resolve problem. So, for several years I have lived with it. This week I had an electrician come out to do other work and told me that it was the transformers on the lights. He replaced the lights with another Halo product and now all is well. This store charged me for a lighting plan -- BAD ONE -- sell you the product, one you pay then a fee to recommend, but does nothing to help when there is and issue with what they recommeded. The result is that I paid for lighting TWICE. What did I pay them for?! NOT HAPPY! read more

We walked in knowing sort of what we were looking for and walked out with exactly what we wanted. Behrang is a lighting GURU. Move over Game of Thrones, we've got your Lord of Light right HERE on Newell Ave. But enough of unsubstantiated opinion. Let's get into the GRITTY NITTY details. We embarked on a huge home remodel 18 months ago. Big deal, 3 storey house, blown out the core, ripped down to the studs, new foundation / electrical / plumbing / waterproofing / framing / basement / drainage / stairs / kitchen and 5 bathrooms. You name it, we did it. Hey, the house was 106 years old, waddya want me to say? As the framing was being completed, my contractor called me up and said, "hey, have you figured out a lighting plan? we're about ready to start electrical rough-in and we need to know what you want us to do!" I was caught totally off-guard, with no idea. "Who usually does that," I asked? I considered our architect, but he has a pretty steep hourly rate and we honestly didn't have the budget for him. Enter Behrang. I walked into his store and was instantly struck by his friendly, open style. I described to him what I was looking for ("um, my contractor says I need to come up with a lighting plan?") and took it totally in stride. There followed a 10 minute primer, "everything you need to know about designing a lighting system for a whole house." Forget about the fact that I wasn't asking the right questions, he taught me what the questions were, then answered them, all the while making me feel like I knew exactly what was going on. I sent him our blueprints, and he paid us a visit (walked through the house) and, voila! two days later he'd drawn out the entire lighting plan on our prints including ambient lighting, task lighting, and decorative lighting (as Ive learned, these are the 3 components of a lighting plan). He didn't ever pressure me to buy the fixtures from him, although of course I did. His prices were very competitive, and I do a LOT of internet research (what's up with the 4 dollar signs $$$$, by the way?? totally off base...) Fast forward to present. We are now in the house, and we couldn't be happier. Every time I bust on those recessed 2700K Halo recessed gimbals on my lutron CL dimmers, I lose myself in (appropriately lit) bliss. With Behrang and WC Lighting, it's not just the lights that glow, it's the whole approach to the experience of planning, designing, and installing a lighting system. A very high quality lighting store with excellent service. I purchased two very nice pendulum onyx? hanging lights for over the bar. My contractor installed them ~ 3 years ago. Well the last earthquake a week or so ago and one of the lights quit working? The next day it came crashing down onto the bar. (luckily there was a package of muffins, saving the quartz counter, and the light!) Anyway I had no idea how to reinstall. So I took the light into the store. The owner was at the store and reinstalled the wire into the base (it had not been secured properly during original install) and checked the light.
