They did the requested work. They're no longer really a transmission shop, they're focusing in EVs, which apparently break a lot.

These guys only work on newer vehicles. Lame. I can't really speak on their quality of work because they don't work on older transmissions.

My appointment was arranged for today, I did the last call before bringing my car for transmission replacement, and hear the different price from the owner. Yesterday he said transmission replacement will cost 6400$, today the number was different-6600$. It makes me suspicious and I demand to sign a written agreement to fix the price and condition my car will be stored there for 2 weeks. Andrew go crazy and accused me of stealing his time. I can say reading reviews of his business, 5-star reviews look paid (fake). here his email to me after review: "Nice review....Petty but from your profile it seems that is your mantra. If you are going to post something at least be honest. State how you called 8 times, asked the same questions multiple times, and were not respectful of my time when I explained I had multiple calls and guests coming in the door. Made unreasonable demands, and only posted your review when I nicely said we are probably not the shop for you and declined to do business with you! Jim is an honest guy and a hero to me. Last night my husband accidentally drained a quart of transmission fluid instead of motor oil before realizing... Stressing and worrying about how to fix it all night, today I found Jim's shop on google/yelp near me and went in. Jim stopped what he was doing to help me fill it back up (because of course I don't know how!) and didn't mind teaching me how to read the dipstick levels. I can speak on the integrity of the shop and recommended going here based on Jim's help. New owner - definitely not the same customer service nor integrity! Sad after years of safe, reliable & trustworthy mechanical service that I could always depend on when traveling across the states. Historically the old owners would put safety before non-urgent random elaborate charges to empty my pockets. Honest. What more can i say. I have a inaight at automotive mechanics. I did a whole semester(13 units, somehow), two decades ago, studying engine repair and rebuilding. I went to Jim not showing all of my cards. My education in engine repair and rebuilding. He was very honest. I knew the fault codes(check engine light) going in, and he didnt rob me. Jim is a very honest fellow. I should have posted this days, not weeks after, the work was completed. If there is anything out of my grasp or health, was thinking about doing this on my own, but i have had recent major back surgery, i am immediately going to Jim. Five stars is not enough. Again. I took my 2013 2 liter Ford Escape awd over there on 10/23/2020 100,000 miles for a leak on my PTU "Power Tranfer Unit" Ford has a technical service bulletin known as a TSB TSB 18-2255 Transfer case leak 2013-2018 multiple ford vehicles Ford has a revised seal whick I took over with me to fix the problem less than $18.00 revised part # CN1Z-7H424-B at 1st they said they would not take a customer part,then they said they would?? The shop foremen said it would cost me $99.00 for diagnostics!! I allready know the problem,I have been a DIYER for over 50 years and grew up in a family that owned 2 Ford dealerships! All I wanted was a quote to replace the seal! I expected to get a quote for 1-2 hours labor! I usually do my own work because I have been burned almost every time I have a car worked on. I needed a limited slip differential installed in a Ford Focus with a 5 speed manual transmission, This job is beyond my skill-set, so I needed to find a place I could trust. I did a lot of searching and finely decided on Walnut Creek Transmission. Before I could get the work done on my car though, a friend with a 2006 Miata had her throw-out bearing go out. Since I had already decided on WCT for myself, I recommended them. They got the work done on time and on budget. They used OEM quality parts, but without the OEM prices to go along with the quality. The price was fair and the warranty is pretty good. They did a thorough inspection of the car and let her know what was wrong with it, but were not pushy at all about it. In the end, the work was done right and no other problems cropped up. I then brought my Focus in and had the differential replaced, as well as a new clutch and motor mounts installed, as well as a new reverse light switch. Again, the work was done on time and on budget and done well. I will certainly be bringing my vehicles in to Walnut Creek Transmission whenever they need work that I can't or don't want to do myself. I was a bit in-shock today that Jim and Karen retired, and their business has changed ownership to what is now called Main Street Automotive. I will always be thankful for both of them, as well as Brian, for all the care and consideration. They will be missed. I was a bit uneasy when I dropped-off my car this morning by not seeing familiar faces anymore, but that quickly melted away. The receptionist was cordial, easy to work with, and was careful with everything. To my surprise, I received a text message about what was going on with the car outside of needing an oil change and the incurred charges. When I authorized it, I got a phone call later on that it would need a new engine air filter, too, and once again, was given a price quote up-front, and said they'll order the part and it will be installed in ASAP. I received both a text message AND a phone call that the car was ready, which was super nice that they covered both bases. When I arrived and was being charged out, I was happy to see that Tim is still working in the shop, and he recognized me. They lucked out that he stayed on-board, as he did amazing work with my previous car. I will say I was fortunate that they took care of my car, as they wanted to reschedule my appointment for another time, but they were kind enough to look at it anyways because I was about to do a road trip to Southern California to visit my mom. I appreciate they were still able to do the work, and I have peace of mind I can travel safely. I am impressed with the level of service and care I received today, and I know Jim would be proud knowing that the new ownership has not tainted his shop's reputation. They should probably take a look at the internet on how to replace a part on a transmission before providing a quote. I replaced a TCM in one hours time, including putting my tools away and washing my hands. The TCM did not need to go to the dealership to be "programmed". It worked great out of the box. I fixed the car for $500 plus an hours time. read more

These guys did a great job. Had a 2016 Dodge Dart where the clutch burned out at 24K miles. (How does that happen?). Got it into the shop and they concluded that the clutch was toast. They had to do some research to see if it was a dual clutch but kept me informed. Also informed me that the flywheel was toast, and while they typically could grind it, they didn't recommend it. Unfortunately the 2 part flywheel was $800, so pretty pricey. All in all though the work they did was reasonably priced and kept me informed. Not their fault the parts were crazy priced (I checked other places and there was not a big difference in price). Would recommend them for transmission jobs. I can't tell how nice it is to trust a mechanic. My older model Kia had several issues. I was sure, not knowing anything about transmissions, that mine was going out. Walnut Creek Transmission completed a diagnostic, found the problem, and repaired it in one day, with no appointment - and it was much cheaper than buying a new transmission. They also conducted a "safety check" to let me know of potential future issues. The Kia runs great again without any warning lights! Could not be happier to have found this shop!! read more

I have a 2003 Toyota Matrix with a manual transmission that pretty much died. Jemco in Oakland was recommended to me by another mechanic but I Yelped around and found these guys who quoted me $500 less. Given the good reviews I figured there was no risk and I was right. These guys are very friendly and helpful. They took my tranny apart and replaced everything that was damaged (a bearing had basically exploded, a Toyota design flaw). They got it back up and running and it's been smooth driving since. The warranty they gave me is double what Jemco and other places offered. The only gripe I have is that they took about a week longer than expected because they were short staffed around Christmas time. Take your car here! They also do oil changes and other general maintenance. read more

We've been going to these guys for the past ten years and every single person is absolutely amazing. They're honest, knoweldgeable, friendly, and have always been there for us. I really don't know too much about cars, but they always take the time to explain everything to me in layman terms so that I walk away more educated and confident in whatever car it is I'm driving or buying. We were recently in the market to buy a car, and the day we decided we were going to get one, I called my boys, ohhhh about a dozen times throughout the day asking them questions and getting their opinion. My transmission broke down. I called my dealership and got a price quote for a re-built transmission for about $5100. I had the car taken to Aamco for a second opinion, they told me it'll be a free evaluation. A "week" later they called that they need to take the car apart for $880 to properly diagnose what needs to be re-built. Their quote was $5600... really? Higher than Range Rover dealership??? I had them put the car back together and called around and got few quotes around $3300 - $3500. I took it to Walnut Creek Transmission and was pleasantly surprised from the initial phone call. Very friendly and attentive customer service. I had my car towed in. They called me every day with a progress and car was done in 3 days. While other Transmission shops recommended a full Rebuild and quotes as high as $3200, Walnut Creek Transmission called to tell me that it only needed a partial rebuild, and that the other components had plenty of life left in them. Top notch service from these guys! I brought my cobra in with a failing throwout bearing, they confirmed the problem and contacted me right away. They had also found my clutch was worn out. The tech recommended I come down to see what they had found (KUDOS)! I provided the parts and the repairs were done in a timely manner. A few months ago I purchased a used 2003 Dodge Durango, and as you all know...when buying a used vehicle you never know what you're getting. Well that's exactly what happened to me. One day while driving it to work and trying to park, I put the vehicle into reverse and nothing happened. I made an appointment with the Concord AAMCO shop, then got onto YELP and started reading the reviews. So many of the AAMCO reviews were horrible, I decided to go elsewhere. One of the YELPers with a horrible experience with the Concord AAMCO recommended this shop, Walnut Creek Transmission. I read some of these reviews and decided to take a chance. I am so glad I did. This shop has been in business for 33 years. Let me tell you something, you don't get to stay in business for over 30 years if you aren't doing something right. The service writers name is Vince. He is extremely knowledgeable with his job and the repairs. They saved the parts to show me the damage. I felt like I was treated very good and I would definitely return for work here if I ever needed to. While I had my truck in their shop for the transmission repairs, I found out they are a total car care service center. So I had them make some front end repairs I also needed. My wife and I just took the truck up to Reno for the weekend and it ran great. So I waited a little to see how the truck was running before writing my review. If you need transmission work, or any other work for that matter, put your mind at ease and call Walnut Creek Transmission. What a terrific car repair is Transmission on Main! I cannot praise them highly enough! When I was told that my car needed a new transmission, a friend recommended Transmission on Main because he had received such outstanding service. Apparently it still rates 5 stars, if not more! My old 18 year old Acura with a newly installed Transmission is running like a brand new car! Work was done last summer and I posted a raving review then but last month I needed to return my car due to rodent damage to the engine! So surprised that this happened but apparently is fairly common and luckily is covered by insurance. The owner, Andrei, is an amazing and conscientious owner, and treats customers as you would always want and expect. My car has been returned to me in excellent condition and I am very grateful to Andrei, Michael and his team. Took my vintage LandCruiser to WC Trans because of a "whine" that turned out to be the power steering pump. Got that fixed but it turns out that my truck transmission (GM motor and auto had been swapped in) needed some help.,..a full rebuild. Jim and the crew rebuilt the Beast and made it better than new. Went through some special challenges due to the non-stock combination of Toyota and General Motors and they stepped up at every point. They dealt with a bunch of other stuff as well - suspension, u-joints, etc. in addition to torque converter and transmission rebuild. They upgraded the GM 4speed auto for boat towing and it will haul a battleship. It takes time to do a job right - it also takes time to get into the place sometimes. They are busy - popular guys - but worth the wait and effort. read more

I build hot rods and in preparing for a cross country trip, I put a rebuilt Ford AOD transmission in my "33 Ford Tudor. I screwed up the TV adjustment cable and burned up the fresh Trans in about five miles. Took the car to a well known shop in the area and had them rebuild the new but destroyed trans. Still not right and we were leaving with one hundred cars for Indianapolis in a few days. So I took the car to Jim at Walnut Creek and he immediately knew what was wrong...an internal spring had been left out . They fixed the trans and gave the car a good going over and we departed on our five thousand mile adventure. He is correct in his video, you can drive to New York after they work on your car. When we returned, our daughter's Ford Escape had a hot oil smell. Took it to Ford and they wanted five thousand dollars to fix the oil leak. More than the car was worth. Jim and his crew found and fixed it for less than five hundred dollars. My mid fifties Ford needed service that I did not feel like doing. This review is not about any work performed simply about the initial phone call. Called to get a quote on replacing a part. I know the exact part that needs to be replaced. Guy said it's between $xxx and $xxx. I asked if I could give a VIN number (I didn't know the exact transmission in my vehicle) if he could give me an actual price. Exact words were "that will take more than 30 minutes and I don't have that time" So im just supposed to bring it in and hope for the best? Wow, what can I say about this amazing business!!! James (the owner) is an amazing transmission builder. First of all I want to say that I am a master VW/Audi technician and have been looking for a competent VW transmission builder for a long time to rebuild my complicated 01M 4 speed automatic transmission. Every shop that I have called wants nothing to do with these VW transmissions and they simply say they don't work on them! Even my boss who owns a German repair shop said there are NO transmission builders who can successfully work on them; due to all of his bad experiences with other transmission shops over the 25 years he has been in business. This shop (Walnut Creek Transmision) and especially James (the owner) made me a true believer when he flawlessly rebuilt my transmission on my 2002 VW Golf TDI. He added all the upgrades and modifications that improved the shifting like you wouldn't believe!!! Silky smooth, Firm, and fast shifting!!! James knows all the flaws and problems associated with these transmissions and has all the special tools to add the upgrades and he explained everything to me. Whatever kind of car you have. These guys are beyond wonderful. I took my car to Niello MINI and they told me I needed a brand new transmission along with some other repairs which would amount to almost $10,000, essentially totaling my car. They then tried to get me to speak to someone to make me buy a brand new car even though I still owe money on this current car. If I had to buy a new transmission, I wanted to try and get a better price, so I called around to different places asking how much they would charge for a new transmission, this was the first place I called that asked me what was even wrong with the car instead of trying to make me buy a new transmission. Long story short, all I needed was new spark plugs and coil and some other minor repairs. I left paying 1/10th what Niello MINI was trying to make me pay. read more
