However, when I arrived at their shop they unreasonably changed their price to $450.00 dollars to completely flush my transmission. Unfortunately, Sun Valley Transmission did not have the decency to honor their original quoted price of $285.00. Clearly, Sun Valley Transmission has chosen to operate in bad faith. Our extended family has *always* had access to a good mechanic that'd do work at a reasonable price. When the transmission on our minivan gave up and the guy we usually go to wasn't available, we were turned on to Al at Sun Valley Transmission. We'd had our van for a year (second owners) before the transmission gave up and the check engine light came on. Al offered to check it out to let us know how much it would cost to fix, so we had it towed over. The verdict wasn't what we expected. It was going to cost over $2k to rebuild the transmission. I was certain that I could figure out a way to work around it, so we just had it towed home. I felt a little bad that he didn't charge a diagnostic fee, so I was going to stop by to offer a gift card to a local restaurant to say "thanks". After a few days of research - looking for a low-mileage used tranny from parts yards online, I found out that Al's quote was pretty damn reasonable. I looked up parts kits for the rebuild, and by the time I was finished with the math, I was convinced - the van was going back to Sun Valley for a rebuild. We just picked it up a couple days ago, and I couldn't be more pleased. Al discussed the bill with me in detail, and pointed out a 1,000 mile checkup that they do at no charge, just to make sure everything is running as it should. It looks like we've got our new family mechanic. It's difficult to find someone you feel you can trust - someone that's going to do an honest day's work. This is a small shop, run by Al, one of the nicest and most honest fellows you will ever meet. He does great work, has great prices, and super service. I called aroung a lot of shops and they all seemed a bit vague and dodgey. None would actually quote me a fixed price to repair the transmission, not even a max, worst case price. Al quoted me a price, cheaper than other estimates, and that is what I paid. The transmission in the '93 Jeep was totally shot and I know he had to replace a lot of parts but did not come back and try to hit me up more more $$. After a year it developed a problem just out of warranty but he took care of it as if the work was done last week. Never a hint of any twitch trying to dodge the fix. Another time, a line to the transmission cooler started leaking and he suggested a simple and fast way to splice in a piece of rubber hose rather than buying the whole line and having to charge a lot of labor to replace the line. Only a real honest fellow helps you save real money at their own expense. Easy to talk to and understanding about how much a pain it is to be without a vehicle and facing an expensive repair. At first I was thrown off quite a bit by the appearance of this shop. It looks like your run of the mill shady repair shop. But after talking to the owner (Al) I realized that his shop really wasn't all that shady. Al is an expert on transmissions of all kinds and his employees are hard working and knowledgeable as well. Al gladly installed an aftermarket clutch and flywheel on my car without even flinching when I told him I was going to supply my own parts. What's even better is that he got the work done in 4 hours when the job was supposed to take 7! So not only did I save money I got out of there sooner than I thought I would. The best part was that he even replaced some missing bolts from my transmission (free of charge) that were misplaced when the car was worked on previously by a different shop. read more

So I needed to flush the transmission on my minivan and it has to be done by a specialist. I find Sun Valley and make an appoint for later in the week. I take it over and they are very nice. They flush the transmission, change the filter, etc. It was ready when they promised and they even updated the software in the trans. Who knew the trans had Windows 95? Why the one star off you ask, gentle reader. Well, for one, the parking in front is non-existent. I had to follow behind my wife to drop off the minivan and almost had to park in Nevada and walk back to the shop. The second reason for the one star deduction was the fact that I called for appointment and she tells me it will be around $170, so I'm like great. Long pause. She tells me to please hold. Comes back on and tells me, sorry, they just raised the price to $270. No explanation, just up a 100 bucks. I thought it was my deodorant or something, but then remembered I was on the phone. They did a great job, but I wish they hadn't told me I would have saved a hundy if I had come in the week before. I could have bought 20 gallons of mayo at Costco with that hundy. read more

My parents recently took my mom's RAV4 on a recommendation from a family friend and the owner not only replaced the entire transmission for a really good price, but he's been attentive to our questions even checking out the RAV4 a week after to make sure everything is working well. My Volvo transmission would not go into gear, so I brought into Sun Valley to get it fixed. It turned out to be a broken band which they replaced, but they also went through the transmission and replaced all of the worn parts, and some you might not think of like the control solenoids, switches and wiring harnesses. They take the extra time and effort to make sure that the transmissions they work on are trouble free for a long time, not just the warranty period. I had shopped around to at least 3 other transmission shops locally here in Concord and was still up in the air on who to take it to. Since the Smog shop I go to was just across the street from Sun Valley transmission and my truck passed smog on a Saturday and Warren Transmission was closed, which was only a few doors down, I thought I would go see if they could help me since they were open on Saturdays. Well, Al just smiled when he saw my 1981 Toyota SR5 long bed 4x4 pickup truck and said he had one of these exact trucks when he was younger. Right off the bat, I felt I was at the right place to get my baby the love & service she needed. He fixed the truck for what he quoted me that day and no more. They are so personalable and honest he even let me come back a few times as work progressed to see how bad it really was and inspect the parts that came out of the truck. They said it was the most destroyed clutch they have even seen, but luck it didn't do damage to any of the other parts. I told him to take his time and do it right so I can drive this truck for another 20 years and pass it down to my children. I just can't say enough about how wonderful they are. My truck runs like it is brand new and after I break in this new clutch Al said to bring it back to do an adjustment, just to make sure all is perfect. You just can't get a more honest guy & great service. I will recommend them to everyone and not just for transmission work. read more
