Came here for a weekday lunch. Service was great, from being shown to our table, to ordering, food service, and during and after the meal. The patio was open concept, which meant no roof. For a nice warm day, it's a great space to have a meal or snacks and drinks. I got the Crispy Chicken Sandwich. The breaded chicken was flavorful and came with a side of hot sauce (probably Frank's) as promised by my server after she cleared up at the start that any heat was just going to come from the brine. It also came with pickles and some shredded cabbage and an aioli kind of sauce on top. The shoestring fries were excellent. The inside was a bit dark, but looked very cozy. Ive been here for drinks before but first time for early dinner. People working in the financial district must know this spot. Cuz i was here on a Thursday ~5pm and it was lit. Despite this being my first visit, I can easily understand why this place is so popular. A stone's throw from Union Station, it's perfect for commuters grabbing a quick drink before the train . We beat the 5 p.m. rush with our 4pm reservation and made the most of happy hour. My three companions played it safe with wine while I kicked things off with a lychee cocktail before switching to margaritas. The Brussels sprouts were excellent -- crispy and well seasoned -- and the chicken pesto pizza didn't disappoint; I can absolutely see a return trip built entirely around that pie. By 6 p.m. it gets lively and a bit loud, and there was a DJ spinning, so bring your raised voice if you want to be heard. Bonus discovery: there's a pool table downstairs (found it en route to the restroom). This is supposed to be a 1 star rating but Nana was a topnotch Manager and proactively rectified the bad service we experienced in a professional and calm manner hence in the end I have to change my rating to 3 stars. We went for their happy hour and ordered just drinks since we already had lunch in a nearby restaurant. We weren't even there for an hour when a staff member (Elan) came to us and said that we have to vacate our table in 5 mins since it was reserved for another customer. All the while this was communicated when we just ordered new set of drinks. When we asked why this wasn't mentioned by our server (Talia) prior to ordering our drinks, she got agitated and said that she doesn't want to talk to us anymore. My friend was calmly explaining to her that basically they want us to chug our drinks down in 5 mins so we can leave their restaurant which is so unreasonable. Of course we were frustrated and were swearing but not directly at her but she handled it unprofessionally. Talia should be avoided! She lacks proper customer service etiquette, very argumentative and damage the restaurant's reputation. Living and working in downtown Toronto, we pretty much dine and drink in restaurants/bars all the time. But this is the first time we have experienced this kind of inferior service. If not for Nana's professionalism and correcting the issues, we would not even give this place a second chance. read more

Happy hour specials 2pm to 5pm -$10 pizza and $12 drinks (espresso martini and margarita). Server was really nice. If you go during peak time, I wouldn't expect exceptional service as it is packed with business folk from 5 to 7pm, however if you go for happy hour, do expect great service. The basement has a pool table and an area you can rent out for events which includes shuffleboard. Overall I enjoyed our quiet table tucked away in the corner as I imagine it would have been quite loud to have a table in the center of the restaurant. There was also a dj playing the day I went in. I recommend the Soprasoto pizza and the mushroom pizza which were both stellar choices especially for the happy hour price. read more

This review is for a corporate party that was hosted there so everything I say obviously may not apply... This venue really worked out great. Having the entire space meant a lot of ability to explore, and get into a relatively quiet zone, if desired. The lower level with the ping pong tables was a hit and the upper level leading to the patio space was the perfect spot for a "photo booth" setup that was brought in for the event. Bar service was quick and efficient and it was nice to have some food spread out in addition to people roaming with serving plates -- however, why no plates for the self serve table? That was a little weird. The place, as I kind of inferred above, is large. It was interesting to see the main crowd somewhat staying at the main bar when looking back from afar but the real advantage was just being able to explore the space as much as it was to connect with all the people that were there. read more

Rona, Jacob, Gord and I had supper this evening before the Toronto Rock game at the Walrus Pub & Beer Hall. The four of us ordered the Golden Chicken Sandwich. Gord, Jacob and I got ours with fries and Rona got hers with a salad. I ordered my sandwich without lettuce. I thought it was a good sandwich. The panko added a bit of heat so I didn't need to dip in the side of hot sauce. The chicken was moist and tender. The bun was soft, which I like, but still managed to hold the chicken well. The fries were good, though I found the sandwich filling enough so didn't have many fries. I'd get this again. read more

Your typical noisy pub place. This place gets busy after 5pm because it's right in the financial district across from large office buildings. Mostly everyone here is dressed in office wear. Down in the basement they actually have a barber beside the bar. Which seems kind of weird but oh well. I liked the basement because it wasn't so ridiculously noisy & crowded as upstairs. Decor is okay. A bit quirky I thought. Near the front there is a glass enclosure with stuffed (not sure if it's real or fake) animals. Weird. It's also pretty dark in the bar so hard to see anything. The food is standard bar food. It was okay, but nothing amazing. Some bars have standard bar type food but make it delicious. The quality here was run of the mill. As for service, it was okay i guess. It's hard to tell because the place was so packed. The servers kept bumping into everyone. It was kind of annoying for me. I don't like my personal space to be encroached upon a lot. So I wouldn't come here on my own. We were here for a work function so I didn't have any choice. Anyway, I'm glad we only stopped by here for a break before heading to the restaurant. read more

Updating my review thanks to a stellar repeat visit to Walrus. Walrus contacted me and invited me back because of the less than perfect (although far from imperfect) time previously. I don't usually take up offers when people invite me back, but the same friends happened to be coming in from Pickering, so I figured we could all meet there again. Well, this time was amazing. Our server, Raven, was fantastic - helpful, informative, engaged. We tried two menu items, the mushroom pizza and the crispy cauliflower, and they were both really, really good. The crust on the pizza was really interesting - it had sesame seeds! - and I would order both these items again. The drink selection was pretty solid as well, and I wasn't drinking this night, so Raven recommended an apple rhubarb soda and it was FANTASTIC! What I liked was that I just casually told her I wasn't drinking, and she went through a bunch of options I could have, so she was really good at selling and knowing what items weren't on the menu that I might be interested in. Tables are nicely spaced apart so you don't feel crowded, and it wasn't too loud a space so you could actually talk to each other. Hostesses seem happy and friendly (I compare this to other beer halls like Craft, where the hostesses are clearly unhappy). I'm glad I was invited back, because I'm definitely adding Walrus to my rotation list especially for visitors meeting us from the Go Train, or meeting up after work as it's right in the heart of the business district. read more

This place is geared towards one the bay street crowd as it gets slammed in the after work hours during the week. However I wanted to give it a try giving its in the neighborhood somewhat. First visit was for drinks alone though their patio did catch my eye so decided to give it a visit for food/patio on the weekend. Surprisingly the place wasn't that busy. The patio is done well here and the seating inside is humongous. I think this seems to be the trend as most of the newer pubs that I have seen open up are similar sized. Now for the bad part maybe its just me I didn't like the beer selection here to the extent on the first visit I ended up just ordering a cocktail! Ah well they do have a rotating craft selection so might work for you. All of us ended up ordering the burger and added the cauliflower app for good measure. The app was decent for what it is (mild flavors and something to munch on while not feeling guilty. The burger is served on a wooden board not a fan of these BTW. The fries are good. Burgers is OK though I wasn't expecting to be wowed. The service was good throughout. 3.5 Stars with a potential for a 4 star pub if the offer more Belgian beers for moi. read more

A friend brought us here for a drink and quick bites before a Blue Jays game. Place was pretty crowded for a Tuesday afternoon. We sat at the bar, and the service was very friendly and attentive. We ordered the crisp cauliflower and avocado on toast. Crisp cauliflower was awesome. If I was hungrier I would've ordered it again. My friend and I came here last Tuesday. Surprisingly, it was pretty busy on a Tuesday night! This place was literally a five minute was from my office. It's nice to have a nice hangout place after work. I love the atmosphere and the vibe of the pub. Much different vibe from their sister pub Belfast. Belfast is a bit more casual and Walrus was a bit more elegant and fancy. The place is huge compared to Belfast and it's located right in the middle of the Financial District. When we walked right in, there was a girl who directed us to another girl who directed us to another girl to seat us. There was a girl who greeted you when you walked right in, there was another girl who was going through the reservations and then there was another girl who seated you at a table. Right after we were seated, our server came and asked if we would like any drinks. I've been eyeing the drink Twiggy, I've read some reviews about it and was so pleased with it. It was super refreshing. My friend Viv, ordered a glass or sparking wine, had a sip of my drink and craved it. It's a must order drink if you aren't too keen on beer and don't feel like drinking wine. We were greeted by the general manager, he was super nice. Asked us if this was our first time at Walrus and if we needed anything, he'll be around. All of the servers that served us were amazing and super friendly. Let's talk food. Crispy Cauliflower with a green citrus and jalepeno sauce. It was delicious. I would eat this all day if I had to become a vegetarian, it's so goooooood!! Fried chicken bits was our favorite thing on the menu. Who doesn't love fried chicken, especially when it's in bite size pieces and OHHH their sauce was amazing. Another app that we got was the shoestring fries. It was highly addictive with the russian dressing and gravy on the side. (if you order the fries, dooooo ask for the gravy on the side). We also ordered the fresh oysters, 6 for 15. We were served two different types of oysters and it was presented so beautifully on a plate with pebble stones. These oysters were amazing and shucked with no shells! So yummy. We ordered another set of drinks. I tried the R&R and it was good. I think that after ordering Twiggy, my taste buds did not want to switch gears. R&R was delicious but Twiggy was so much better! R&R had rhubarb soda and I love anything that contains rhubarb. We ordered the carne pizza and after the first slice- we were sooooo full. Our server was nice enough to split the pizza into two for us. She didn't have to but she prevented us from forcing each other to take the leftover pizza. When we first got seated, I knew that we had to get dessert so despite being super full, we ordered their yogurt panna cotta. Oh it was so worth it. I wish that the shortbread was a bit softer but omg the blueberry and panna cotta was just soooooo amazing. I would definitely come back, this pub had a very nice vibe and I absolutely love the decor. It's in such a convenience place, close to work and close to the Go station! I must bring my coworkers here, they have such a greater selection in drinks, cocktails, beer and martinis. A whole book on different martinis! I will have to try the next time that I am here. Great spot. Came here with a friend for dinner. Sat at the bar and had an hour wait but we didn't mind as we wanted to take our time and catch up. The atmosphere was really great although packed. There are interesting pictures and furnature and visuals everywhere. It makes it easy to start conversation. We had the goddess dip and OMG amazing. So good we ordered a second. I got the bowl with the roast chicken with kale and quinoa. It was amazing. My friend had the eggplant burger. It looked delicious as well. The waitress suggested I get a paper airplane drink. 3.5 for the food and I'm rounding up to 4 for the patio and cocktails. The patio is secluded from the bustle of downtown, and it's nicely decorated with lots of plants and black wicker. A third of the patrons are the after-work crowd that can be obnoxious, loud, overly drunk, or a combination of the three. Luckily, we weren't seated too close to them, and we had a lovely time. I had the crispy chicken burger and my friend had the eggplant parm burger. Both were pretty good and the fries were hot and fresh. What I'd come back for are the cocktails, though. My friend had the R&R, with rye whisky, aperol, lemon, and peychaud's bitters, which she really enjoyed though it was a bit too bitter for me. I, however, loved the Twiggy. LOVED IT. It has ungava gin, ginger beer, lemon, rosemary syrup, chartreuse, and charred rosemary. It's slightly sweet and the rosemary adds a great depth of flavour. I could drink this cocktail all day. I could have five in one sitting though I didn't because I wanted to be able to get home. I'll come back for the Twiggy. read more

My friends hosted their birthday party at Walrus Pub & Beer Hall. We had two large tables by the bar. Personally the menu feels limited with options. The food is mediocre at best and overly priced. Some people finished their dish, while others had a hard time just swallowing their first bite. It was a hit and miss type of situation. The drinks were heavily overpriced but it was a birthday celebration so YOLO. We racked up a huge bill by the end of the night with a massive tip. When it came to the bill. It was a problem. Because if you ordered something small, you are stuck splitting the cost of the tip evenly. It is not off of what you had ordered but the entire group's bill. We double checked with our server to make sure it was not a POS issue. Our server responded back with, "that's how it has always been." read more

Is upscale sports bar the new thing? As someone who likes to get down and dirty and enjoy some good wings and beer when watching sports, Walrus' atmosphere was...confusing. And as a self proclaimed beer snob (I'm from Colorado), the beer selection was disappointing. We came here after the beer bar we originally wanted to go to was closed for a private event. The place was hoppin' when we arrived around 9pm on Saturday. The decor was classy, minus the large TVs aligning the bar. It was loud and hard to hold a conversation. The surprising positive was the panna cotta dessert, it was creamy and oh so delicious. I can see how Walrus would be a nice place for happy hour after work, but probably would not be on the top of my list when visiting Toronto. read more

Cafe looking seats?), and there's a ping pong area downstairs and a barbershop too? It's such an interesting mishmash of a space, and the bathrooms are nice too (always a perk). I went on a weekday during the holiday season and it wasn't very busy at all, got seated promptly. My friend and I shared two dishes. The beet salad with apples and chicken was delicious, totally recommend. We also got the lamb sausage pizza which was good but not amazing, bit too salty for me. Overall I feel the prices were fair. I docked one star because our server seemed very rushed, but it was still a good experience. Came here to watch the raptors and leafs game on a Saturday. Would suggest coming 30 mins early or getting a reservation on game day as it get quite busy. The ambiance and decor is beautiful and unique. One of the prettier places in Toronto. However the food and drinks were mediocre. For drinks they have a martini menu and regular cocktails, beer and wine. The martini was overpriced for something not that unique. I had the tiki martini - not very inventive drink, but quite clean. Also had a Caesar and Irish coffee. These were not great at all - 2/5. For food we started with chicken bites - a little on the oily side but a unique spin on chicken bites. For mains we had the lamb sausage pizza and the tuna sashimi bowl. The lamb sausage was very well done, but the sashimi bowl felt like you could have gotten it at a food court. read more

I was there in a private function from my work and the environment on the mezanino is great, the food was espetacular (especially the pizza and the filet mignon with blue cheese). They have a pool table and a shuffle board. They are both fun but the pool table is small and the space is limited to play. I had a great time and I will come back on my own as well. read more

It was great to be back at work in downtown Toronto. As a welcome back to the team, I took them to lunch at the Walrus. Three members of my team couldn't finish their lunches (half an order of fish and chips, and almost two full pizzas). I and another team member waited behind for the orders to be packed for take out as the three people had to go to a meeting. The server took the dishes away and we sat there for about 10 minutes waiting. Finally, I got up, found the server and asked about the meals only to find out she threw them in the garbage. Very disappointed that the server chose to throw out so much food that was expected to take away. read more

Walrus is a great place to chill after work. This place is always packed - finally managed to get a seat one night around 8pm on the patio. It is quite loud but I love the vibe here. FOOD: - (not walrus) burger with fries - loved the smoky flavor from the burger. The fries were skinny but quite addictive. - Mushroom pizza - very good as well, the sesame seeds added an interesting touch I also tried the Pong Bar one time when the pub was full. I order Blue Buck every time, as it is one of the only places around town that serves it, but they are always out. It's quite frustrating asking for beers and they are out. This has happened every time and it's getting on my nerves now... Usually it takes 3 or 4 different beer selections before they have the next one I want in stock... other than that the service is always great as well as the food. But my lord, keep your kegs fully stocked - you are a beer hall. 3.5 stars but I rounds up to 4. UPDATE: went back 2 weeks ago. Out of Blue Buck and a bunch of other beer AGAIN. This is one of my go-to after work drink spots even though there's no happy hour (that's how much I like it). I love the ping pong on the lower level floor. There is also shuffle board upstairs hidden away in the back towards the patio. Each area of the bar has its own distinct vibe so you can migrate from one spot to another throughout the night and experience a bit of novelty. I give it three stars because I liked the vibe and the setting of the restaurant. It is a pretty decent size venue with setons of seating. We choose to sit on the rooftop which was breezy but they had the heaters on to keep you warm. The music was good and the bartender was friendly and gave us suggestions to try. I wanted something light to share before dinner and I didn't want the cauliflower so I ordered the fried chicken nuggets. My friend ordered the mussels. Everything came out in a timely manner. After looking at the chicken I could tell it was over cooked and after 3 pieces I couldn't eat anymore, I thought my tooth could break. The bartender noticed and asked if I wanted to switch it out but I declined. He removed the item from my bill. The mussels were a bit small but I had one and they were good. Place was incredibly trendy and I would definitely frequent if I was from the area. Only reason I dropped the rating a star was that I feel as if more effort could go into the drinks.
