I was referred to Dr. Fierson by our pediatrician when I pointed out a small abnormality around my 4 month old's eye. I was given a decently long list of referrals, but our pediatrician circled Dr. Fierson's name and said "he's awesome!". Although the office is a bit of a drive from our home, I took his recommendation and I scheduled an appointment. Let me just say, I'm so glad I did. To start, everyone was incredibly kind. The office itself felt very cozy and calming. The staff is doing an amazing job with COVID precautions, it can't be easy shuffling people around, but they really make it a priority to maintain social distance between patients. Having a small baby, that made me feel very safe and secure. Now here's my favorite part- while we were waiting in the exam room, I couldn't help but notice a bulletin board filled with pictures, cards, drawings and letters from kids that Dr. Fierson had treated over the years. Yelp is great and all, but those are the reviews that really matter and there's something about seeing a card that says "thank you for fixing my eyes" written in a kids handwriting that makes you feel like you're in the right place. On to the exam- it was great! The room is full of little surprises to help kids look in the right direction and there's a drawer full of exam instruments disguised as princesses, superheroes and any other character you can imagine. It's all just truly a great place for kids. Dr. Fierson was thorough, gentle, kind, and easy to communicate with. All the things you want in a doctor! Overall, it was a great experience and I'm so glad I went with Dr. Fierson. read more

I am writing a review from my visit this past July for my daughter who was one at that time. I give this place two stars because we were there for about 3 1/2 hours. When I arrived, they kept shifting me to 4 different rooms as more and more people arrived for their appointments. The whole process seemed inefficient. They did the intake in the break room which was not comfortable or safe for my now very anxious little one to be in. They dilated my daughters dark eyes four times (originally they said 3 would be the max). One staff member was helpful and sent in a claim for me (but later on when I checked in on the Davis Vision claim they had no record so I do not know what happened). The part that was most UPSETTING to me was when we finally saw Dr. Fierson. He asked me politely to hold my daughter's curious hand as she wanted to see/touch the light he was using during the exam. I said that I would try but fighting her too much would lead her to crying and a more challenging situation. Basically one thing added to the next, and now Dr. Fierson was forcefully trying to open my daughter's eye as I held her. She was crying and upset during the process. At first, I tried to be understanding that he had to complete the job but I was left feeling like the whole situation was not right! What is easier? To be creative and have a baby cooperate with open eyes? Or create possible injury by forcefully opening a shut eyed crying baby? Because of Dr. Fierson's lack of patience and care, I will never return to this office nor recommend it. read more

Dr Fierson has been seeing my son since he was 3 months old. After months of patching for his strabismus in both eyes, we decided that surgery was his best option. At 7 months old my son had his surgery....we couldn't be happier with the entire process and of course the results. Dr Fierson's staff is always super nice and attentive. They scheduled us with the soonest possible date for surgery, and Cynthia was beyond informative to me with the insurance process and the step by step process for the week before and after the surgery. Dr Fierson sat with me and my husband and explained everything .... the whole layout of the surgery and what was to be expected Yes his office is busy, The wait times can be long... but isn't that a testament as to how great a doctor he is? he sees so many patients a day! Our pediatrician referred us to Dr. Fierson & we are so glad we were able to get an appointment quickly. From arrival, dilating pupils and exam we were in & out within 2hrs. Writing to respond to the comments by the wife of the doctor. 1-my husband AND nanny were both present in the room at the first visit where the doctor said "it's probably nothing, let's see him in 3 months to reevaluate". That's why a second appointment was made, and kept, since the problem did not improve. I should also note that I had my nanny with me at the follow up who can also attest to the treatment. I had help as I was on bedrest while pregnant with my second child. 2- my sons pediatrician spends a minimum of of 20-30 minutes examining my children, every single time ... and answering any questions we have. In fact, we met another doctor in the same field while my second child was in the NICU. This doctor, who was in the nicu for consults with other children, spent over 30 minutes of her time after her treatment of the nicu babies talking to my husband about my child who wasn't even there....and called her office to make an appointment for him the next day. 3- I'd like everyone to know that I got 3 phone calls, a few emails AND a certified letter telling me that my future follow up appointment was canceled (which I was going to do anyway) after writing my initial review. read more

I've been taking my daughter to Dr Fierson for about 2 years now. Tracy has always been very friendly and helpful. My daughter was diagnosed with 2 chalazia and Dr Fierson proceeded to treat her conservatively until surgery was needed. He performed surgery and pre- and post-op were very thorough. Dr. Fierson is fine. Please, I implore you, do not order your lenses here. They need to update their database, it's all done on little pieces of paper that are misplaced all over and they never know the glasses you have. I have received the incorrect lenses on THREE different occasions. It's very saddening to see how inept they are and how long it takes for you to get lenses. I was so disappointed with their rude attitude. I called politely and ask for re-schedule or not, the reception just told me I need to pay for $75 for the forfeit. Otherwise cannot continue to treat here. My son was fell asleep in the car at that time. I did not wake him up. Because I knew we will wait for two hours later. So I called and asked if I could change the time. The response and attitude of the front desk staff really disappointed me. They asked me to pay the fee first and can re-schedule the time. That's enough. It makes me feel that they only have money in their eyes and no patients. Was it because my son was sleeping in the car and couldn't get to the doctor on time? Or I didn't cancel it in 24 hours early? Or even because their rules weren't lenient? The doctor's time is valuable. That was means, if you're here, you'll have to wait two hours at least. The worst for toddlers. Dr Fierson is mean to kids and his staff. He didn't talk to my kid and didn't explain anything. My son was traumatized from an eye injury and urgent care visits. The visit to Dr Fierson office traumatized him more... for the entire 3 1/2 hours we were there! How is this a pediatrician? He re-traumatized my son over and over again by holding him down w hi staff and forcing him to open his eyes multiple times during our visit... the staff didn't help. I really hate giving bad reviews but I think this is necessary and may help others. I've been taking my daughter to Dr.Fierson for 11 years. And while he kept telling me her sight was getting better, and he she doesn't need glasses, she kept tellong me it's getting worse , i can't see! I believed him and not her....well because he's a Dr. and he'd been seeing for her for so long! My daughter asked me to take her to another Dr. I finally listened and did, that Dr. told me she has HORRIBLE sight. She wouldn't be able to legally drive if she was 16 and he can't understand why a Dr. wouldn't prescribe her glasses! I feel so guilty and I just don't know how I could have been taking her to a "specialist for 11 years and he miss it EVERY YEAR!!!! read more

This is a common tactic with you on multiple reviews as you justify your husbands credibility as if anyone cares. Newsflash Mrs. Fierson; No one cares about your past, everyone cares exactly what you do at this very moment. There are multiple reviews that points out Dr. Fierson's conduct towards patients and even his own staff members. - You state the numerous articles on YELP lawsuits. Another newsflash; YELP is currently still here and has defended every lawsuit they've been in. Reviews are filtered primarily due to user activity and if reviews are credible. Algorithms are set based off a plethora of things. As you look at my profile, I have the most YELP reviews that your office has encountered and most of my reviews are positive. It takes a lot for me to write a negative review and your office most definitely warranted one. - You continue to use medical terminology and procedures as if that was the bulk of my review. Why your practice continues to receive negative reviews is because of your inability to take constructive criticism and put some of these complaints into action. Your customer service skills are lacking and seriously needs to be reviewed. ****You finally end your statement with a copy and pasted positive review. Your practice has a consistent pattern with negative reviews. Every single review are similar to the last. It is obvious that this type of behavior and unprofessionalism has been happening for years. HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR. FIERSON FOR YOUR CHILD'S EYES AND YOUR PEACE OF MIND AS A PARENT, and here is why.... We first met Dr. Fierson in the NICU with our first preemie. Then our second child was also a preemie and we once again got to work with Dr. Fierson. The NICU is a stressful experience, eye complications is a regular concern with preemie babies in the NICU. Dr. Fierson made this concern a little easier. It is clear he is focused on his job. When he spoke to us about our children his genuine passion and concern was felt. Dr. Fierson is brilliant and we have taken comfort in knowing he is an expert in his field and stays current on the forefront of the newest research. After the NICU we have had regular visits with Dr. Fierson. Especially just coming out of the NICU there were many concerns. Dr. Fierson's office has always taken great care of us. The staff are all very friendly and make us feel comfortable while we are there - especially Violet and Tracy. Those two are always greeting us with warmth and smiles. If you have preemie children you know the importance of keeping them as secluded as possible when they first get out of the NICU. Mrs. Fierson has made it her mission to ensure our preemies have always been as safe as possible in the office by reserving a room for us to wait while the baby's eyes dilate, which is unusual for other offices we visited. That extra effort and personal touch makes this office a step above the rest! Without a doing, we highly recommend Dr. Fierson's office! I am so thankful for Dr. Fierson and his staff. Dr. Fierson completed my daugthers surgery in September of 2020 and the results have been better than I ever thought they would be. My daughter developed an infection after the surgery and Dr. Fierson came in on the weekend to see her without me requesting him to. Our son was born prematurely out of state, when we brought him home he needed one more checkup, so the hospital booked us here as it was the first available. The nurse that checked us into our exam room was very nice and I thought all the yelp reviews were a little harsh at that point. The doctor doesn't have the greatest amount of people skills but I trust that he knows what he's doing. Our son did not have ROP as this was his final examination, and our pediatrician told us we are free to see anyone we please after his ROP was signed off. We did not make a follow up appointment because the office is an hour and a half away from our house and it's not like we're driving that far with a newborn for excellent service or anything. Plus, we are very close to CHOC, who's ophthalmologists also take our insurance. The reason I only put two stars is because even though we have not scheduled an appointment and have spoken with our pediatrician about going elsewhere, I received a letter from our insurance that this office put in a referral for us to see them again. That's quite presumptuous given the circumstances. Also, long wait times are expected, but if I had a toddler instead of a newborn I think they'd get awfully antsy in a place that isn't all that kid friendly, and I know kid friendly offices exist, we have a few specialists of other kinds to see read more

The front office staff is rude, along with the MA and Dr. Fierson! First my daughter felt uncomfortable with the way he was conducting the exam because he was not walking her through the process just telling her what to do. Once Dr. Fierson got to dilation portion he did NOT explain to his patient my daughter as to what will happen once he Dilated her pupils He put the drops in her eyes with my daughter being clueless and sent us back to the waiting room! That is a terrible pediatric doctor he didn't seem to care for my daughter and the way she could feel once he put the drops in! Tracy is the only welcoming person in the whole office great job Tracy!!! I will never come back nor will I recommend this place AT ALL! Dr. Fierson runs what is very much like a Seinfeld Soup-Nazi business. His assistants come in moments before he enters, announcing that our son, who is 5, must be seated in the right spot and ready, otherwise, he would move on down the row of peasants, awaiting his gift of presence. That was our first visit, which was off putting, but he certainly has trained his staff to behave fearfully of him, but that's not the worst of it, not by a long-shot. Secondly, had an appointment at 3:45 a few months later, arrived at 3:50, waited until 5:15, and had to leave due to a dinner engagement. Informed the office staff, and they said it would be "only another 15 minutes," a full hour and 45 after my appointment. Told them I'd be changing ophthalmologists, and they seemed gracious enough, but charged me $15 to print and release my sons medical info, which sucked, but whatever, anything to get outta dodge at that point. Was glad to change doctors and put this terrible experience behind us, but lo-and-behold, weeks later, got another bill for $75 for "not rescheduling within 24 hours....umm, sorry, what planet does this guy live on?! I'm CHANGING DOCTORS BECAUSE YOU KEPT ME WAITING FOR OVER AN HOUR AND A HALF! Why would I be rescheduling?! And....cherry on top, they wrote in the notes that I "refused to wait." I have been taking my daughter to Dr. Fierson for 10 years......since she was 3. She was diagnosed with refractive amblyopia at 3 years older and through VERY diligent therapy (overseen by Dr. Fierson) her eyes are fine and continuing to improve. His office runs a tight ship and you have to do what he tells you to do but there is seriously no better pediatric ophthalmologist out there. He has YEARS of experience that you are not going to get anywhere else. read more

The whole experience was really unpleasant in the clinic, I wasn't planning to write this review until the front desk staff CALL me to ask for the no show fee $75. I honestly don't remember we made an appt for my son for the second visit. Because of the long waiting time and the unprofessional staff. My husband and I have already made the dicision not to come back again before the doctor even give my son diagnose. In this review, I have nothing to against the doctor's profession. I believe Dr Fierson is a good doctor just not as friendly as the general public expect. However, what disappointed me was the staff were extremely unprofessional. They didn't care a bit about my little one year old boy's feeings at all. They dilated my son's eye twice which took us almose one and half hour (because we have dark eyes?), not include the 40 mins before anybody took us in the examine room and waiting in there for another 45 mins for the doctor came in and said he needs to be dilated for the examine. We are not doctors, we still work hard for living, our time needs to be valued as well. if your are overbooked, don't take the patients anymore. I still clearly remember how rude the staff hey were checking if my son's eyes were dilated or not. The first lady came in with her pen light and tried to open my son's little eyes racklessly. He had alrealy cried like crazy, you still cannot tell if his eyes dialated or not!!??? And then you sent another lady to came in to check!!!? Really?I thought you guys are professional child eye doctor clinic? How can you make your little patient so uncomfortable? I just received a phone call from the front desk staff asking me if I receive a bill from the clinic for the no show fee $75. I was shocked, as I said, I don't remember that I have an appt after that terrible experience. Even if I do, why didn't I get any reminder instead a BILL????? If you really do value your patients' wellness. Giving me a call or email me reaching out to me like you value the money!!!! We have been going to Dr. Fierson for 3 years now. He is the most knowledgeable man in his field. We absolutely love him, and the most important thing is OUR DAUGHTER ADORES HIM. They have a special, precious bond. It's means the world to Delilah when Dr. Fierson tells her that he is so proud of her for (in our case) wearing her eye patch daily - and that he can tell she's working hard. As parents we need to remember that it's our children's comfort that matters, not ours. Dr. Fierson doesn't chat much, but that's okay, if you think about it. He tells my 5 year old he's proud of her (when she deserves it), she looks SUPER forward to seeing him and he tellS me what I need to know and what I need to do. The staff is also incredible. We just found out that Dr Fierson had closed his doctor office in Arcadia and has joined a Pasadena facility, literally at his door of the old office!! My son made an appointment a year ago, and we were not informed of the change at all and showed up to the empty office. We were told that Dr Fierson is currently on medical leave. We loved Dr Fierson and wish him good health but we are very disappointed with the office. They should have informed his patients for a big change like this. We called the Pasadena facility and were told that no appointments are available until 4 months from now. We are scrambling to find a new doctor to attend to my son's problematic eyes in this chaos. read more

Our 4 year old son, Julian, has improved SO incredibly much under the supervision of Dr. Fierson. Julian has astigmatism in one eye, and it was Dr. Fierson's advice to do eye patch training, where he started with over an hour each day, and then gradually less every few months, with each subsequent visit after further testing to make sure his lazy eye was improving and his good eye was not getting any worse. I don't know all the ins and outs, but I was incredibly surprised when it actually worked!! The office is filled with super cool kid-friendly toys that all move and make sounds and the doc is able to test the kids while it continues to be fun for children. I'd never seen anything like it. And on the way out, I met Carolyn who's the sweetest person as well! Bravo to this dynamic duo. If I could give 10 stars I would! Thank you so much for helping our son! If it weren't for Dr. Fierson, I'm sure our son would need glasses. So all in all they've saved us from countless prescriptions, etc. Thank you thank you thank you! read more

The women who dispenses the lenses and gives you the prescription is beyond rude. I will never come back or recommend this place to anyone just because of her. My son was trying on glasses and she said you know these aren't display glasses these are the ones we sell implying my son was too rough with them. I would have to say is one of the most honest doctors I've ever had the experience of meeting. I took my 10-month-old baby earlier today after the check up set my mind at peace that my child is absolutely fine and the doctor was amazing. At the doctors office you typically have to wait hours before you get seen but this doctor was on top of his game and didn't have to wait specially with a toddler! This serves as an overall review of this practice. Not just the doctors, but also the staff. Dr Fierson and Dr Bates are PHENOMENAL doctors. They are incredibly kind and very knowledgable at what they do. They are well revered by many other optometrists (my brother's optometrist even knows them!). I've seen Dr. Fierson for four years and Dr. Bates last year to switch from glasses to contact lenses. Zero complaints for the doctor's expertise. Why the two stars? - TERRIBLE availability of the doctors. I've dealt with this for many years (and luckily, was able to), but just as I acquired a full-time job, this eliminates a lot of options for me to see Dr Bates. - When I got my contact lens fitting, the staff only taught me how to put them on, take them out, and was given tips on the type of solution I was supposed to use. THAT'S IT. No tips on how to rinse and rub my contacts, nothing in terms of general timing on how long I should wear them, had to look online to properly learn more about how to properly use my contacts. I called for another routine appointment on Thursday to see Dr Bates. I was scheduled for the following Monday. Turns out, Dr Bates couldn't show up on that Monday, and the staff attempted to contacted me with an older phone number on Friday. It was until I drove to my appointment (from Diamond Bar!) that they notified me in the office that he could not show up, wasting my time and my fuel. Why couldn't the office staff mail me a letter on Friday about this issue (that I would receive Saturday) if they realized I could not be reached with my old phone number? And now, because of Dr Bates' lack of availability and my busy schedule, I really do not know when I'll see him again. Maybe it's time for me to switch to a different optometrist that can accommodate me. Staff is terrible. Doctors are fantastic. Overall experience throughout all these years, mediocre. Nothing mind-blowing. If you can accommodate your schedule (and your kid's schedule) to see these doctors at their availability, go see these doctors. Otherwise, look elsewhere. Friendly staff. Environmental definitely caters to children but remains clean and simple. Parking is accessible and easy to find. Location is great and not in a terribly busy area. I was greeted, asked to fill out the patient form, and helped within a few minutes. I came in for a contacts exam and the doctor spent about an hour doing the exam and answering all my questions! Mind you, I was struggling with my contacts so I appreciated him taking the time to work with me and figure out what contact prescription worked best for me.
