I have known her for over ten years and because I couldn't get back to her ASAP she canceled all my future appointments with no phone call but through text which is extremely disrespectful. Also I referred several people and she charged me $150 more than the people I referred. I always tip 20%. I'm so glad this happened because when she was told not to worry about it I found someone to fix my hair. She asked if I wanted to come in on Tuesday when she's known for 12 years I work 12 hour days. I had no expectations of her coming in but she offered to take then out but would not put them back in. That would've been a nightmare. This has happened a couple times now. She over charges and her work has gone so down hill. I just didn't want to deal with my work and finding someone new. I've colored my hair for years and it's become damaged & thin, but i love long & blonde hair so much. So, getting extensions was the best step forward. TERRIBLE SERVICE and HORRIBLE CUT: I've learned a valuable lesson that whenever there is a negative review that's a warning -- there were several on yelp! During my first visit, I explained the cut I wanted (basically clean up of one month grow out) and showed owner Todd several photos of myself with the mod, blunt pageboy cut. When I got home I was completely dissatisfied so the next day I called for an appointment to re-trim (1/4" on the front tip and length in the back). Got to the appmt with a defensive and argumentative attitude. Never experienced this before from any professional even when I went back for a re-do (color) or re-snip here or there. Denise Barrows @ DB Salon on Fifth Ave. never had an issue with me coming back and joyfully managed to produce a fantastic cut!! In fact, her stylists and their clients would always come to my chair and compliment my hairstyle -- wherever I'd go, people, male and female, young and old, would compliment my hairstyle!! However, the owners of Walter Todd, yep both of them, even argued that my hair cut was a bob, not a page boy as every other stylist referred to my style. I googled a page boy: "A pageboy hairstyle is a haircut which is designed for straight, medium to short length hair. In a pageboy, the hair is cut to just below the ear, where it curls under; the hairstyle is often accompanied with bangs as well and a classic pageboy is cut just below the ears and accented with a set of blunt bangs". EXACTLY!! And that is how my hair had been cut prior to this botched haircut. I'm going back to Denise so she can fix the mess as only she can do! Now I understand why her 10,000 sq ft salon with 15 stylist/colorists is always bustling. She is such an example of providing clients with exceptional client satisfaction in spite of her quirkiness. Walter has been cutting and coloring my hair for the last 10 years and I can't say enough good things about the salon and customer service. If you're looking for a place that does great cuts, color and highlights, Walter Todd will fit the bill. I was a bit apprehensive to change salons and I'm so happy a friend recommended Walter Todd. Walter is a one stop shop...he cuts, styles and colors my hair, and his work is amazing. He's completely "in tune" with what I'm trying to do with my hair. I get compliments all of the time on my the color, style and overall condition of my hair. I love the salon products they use on my hair, which are also sold in the salon. I always keep a few of his business cards with me, just in case I'm asked where I go. The entire staff at Walter Todd is amazing. The salon is immaculate and it's obvious customer service is their top priority. There is ample parking right in front of the salon or along one of the side streets. There is always a friendly face to great you at the door and offer you something to drink. I've NEVER had to wait for Walter to finish with a client. Kudos to Walter, Todd, Cindy, Jan and Cora! Basically I paid premium price for a supercut hair cut!!! It was just a overall terrible experience. I feel completely mistreated & scammed. I made the appointment with Walter. I confirmed that they took credit cards. I was given a stylist that gave me a generic hairstyle and when i went to pay I was told that no they did not take credit cards.... WTF? I called them out and said that I confirmed on the phone . I was then informed that my stylist was an independent contractor. I paid with cash and she also cost $10 more. Just avoid this place. Better haircuts available elsewhere without the scam. read more

From the time I walk into the salon, I feel so comfortable. The ambiance is uncluttered and soothing. More importantly Walter is the supreme stylist. If you bring a picture in of how you would like your style to look like when you leave and he will do it perfectly. He also listens to you and will make suggestions. Ashley fulfills two or more positions, wonderful kind receptionist and has the experience to perform a fabulous facial. Walter had been cutting my hair for 19 years. I have always been pleased with the results. I was there Saturday, and as usual, it was great service, great result. Definitly ask the price of the haircut at the time of the appointment and let them know you dont want an independent contractor ( otherwise you are charged more and get someone who works at supercuts as well) Was not impressed and wont be back. read more

She did round brush me, but then proceeded to very quickly gave me tight flat iron curls in random places. She asked if I wanted hairspray and I said NO. When I checked out, she charged me $45 instead of $35, not sure why. When I left I asked where was the closest place I could buy a curling iron (to obvious fix my strange hair style). Booked an appointment w Jac for a model call for $150. Was supposed to be a balayage with all over…read morecolor. Send her pictures of my hair beforehand and showed her what I would like done. I show up and she's asking the person next to her what to do the entire time (not important to me as I was aware it was a model call so I assumed she was inexperienced). She and the girl next to her decided all I needed was a tone. I told her I wanted a complete different color change but they said the tone would give me the look I wanted to achieve. I trusted them and agreed. She toned my hair and aggressively brushed it the entire time... while wet. Shed apply whatever treatment then aggressively brush. Just so unecessary. We moved upstairs and she was ruining my hair with her hair brush that had bristles literally going in every direction. Extremely surprised that a hair brush of that quality was even allowed in the salon. I asked to brush my hair. The stylist next to her asked if my hair always gets that knotted, I replied no. Truthfully I don't know how it could be do knotted when she brushed my hair the whole tone..? Anyway, brushed my hair a little bit EXTREMELY delicate because it was sopping wet (she didn't even ring it out). The stylist next to her finally chimes in and says don't brush it while wet. Well duh?! She told her to blow dry it halfway. No heat protectant! I told her I'm just going to brush it at home with my salon grade products since they didn't apply anything other than detangler to my hair that wasn't working. So when it's time to pay she charges me $100 for a tone. Are you kidding? I questioned her and said it would have been $150 for a full color and I'm getting charged 100 for a tone? And she said well that's what the salon charges. I nicely told her you're a bit more inexperienced so I'm not paying for salon prices I'm paying for a model call price as advierto see. How does it make sense that it is $100 for a tone.. especially when you don't even have the proper supplies to comb my hair out. And when you request that I Apple Pay you. That was a blatant lie but I ignored it. Mind you a tone literally across the street at Cut salon (waaaaay nicer) was $40!!!! Absolutely insane! She said $80 was the best she could do. I was baffled. I told her I should've just got my hair colored completely like I originally planned on doing ! I ended up just leaving with wet hair, half completely knotted. Soooo disappointing. Aside from this, the vibe was nice downstairs only. Their room specifically was dim and not spacious. You're right next to another person. The lighting is poor so you can't even see the quality of your hair. If you go I'd caution you to choose an experienced stylist. I personally won't be back.

Long story short, I had a family emergency which resulted in me cancelling my appointment 30 min prior to my appointment which I completely understand the time of cancellation. However the message sent by Arlene was to notify her whenever I was ready to reschedule that's it. When I messaged her to reschedule, it took me by surprise that she was charging an additional deposit. To point out I let her know I was never notified nor does she have policies in place of this. Had I known and she notified me that this is something that needed to be done I would have never had an issue nor did I have an issue paying an additional deposit. The issue was that she pointed out I cancelled my appointment 30 min prior which again I understand however how was I supposed to plan an emergency happening. The fact that she stated she " doesn't send policies out because of mutual respect for time" is completely unprofessional how am I supposed to know what the policies are? The previous appointments she has never sent any policy because I honestly believe she simply just doesn't have one. I completely understand that cancelling 30 min before is not ideal for the stylist, if her policy was posted or was notified of it I would 100 percent been understanding of it and paid the deposit. Instead, she decided to return my deposit and let me know I was not a good fit for her after going multiple times to her. Just wanted to notify any potential clients that decide to book with her to be cautious of that.
