My original reason for visiting this restaurant was because of the consistent line we would see when driving by. However, we found out that was due to COVID restrictions only. The customer experience was absolutely terrible. I spoke twice to the staff only to get no response coupled with the aweful smell in the restaurant. When I turned to leave the young lady behind the counter then responded to her disregard. There are many soul food restaurants in Atlanta to choose from and it boils down to the customer experience. I'm not sure why the naysayers are saying what they've said but my friend and I went to Walters yesterday and loved everything about it. The only complaint (if any) is that they still go by COVID rules and only allow 3ppl in at one time. The food here is terrible . The attitude of the workers are just as nasty as the food . Only thing worth eating is the fried chicken only when it comes out fresh and hot . Got food poisoning and ended up in the hospital for 4 days. Need to throw away food that is no longer edible. Health department needs to do a surprise visit. The yelp listing was for another restaurant at this location. They say they've been open since last year, but I just found them about a month ago even though I'm always driving by here constantly. The food at Walter's is very good. I've had the oxtails, fried chicken and most often the fried fish. The prices are very reasonable. But, what keeps me going back is the service that Walter and his wife provide to every customer. You feel like they've put their heart in their service, as well as their food. My boyfriend and I loved it! It was to go only but the lady was so sweet and so warm I felt like I was at my grandmas house the way she took care of us. The food was DELICIOUS! Every bit of it. I had the Salisbury Steak I'm sooo glad it came with rice then I got two extra sides: yams and macaroni and cheese and it was BOMB! My boyfriend got rib tips and the same sides which he loved as well. He had to stop eating before he got too full for work! We had to get our vegetables so we got green beans and cabbage which I don't like cabbage and he doesn't like green beans yet we loved both! From my understanding this is a family owned soul food restaurant. I asked for baked chicken and dressing and the server put rice in the to go plate, I tell her that I don't want rice she says that it comes with rice and there is no substitute, but you get 2 sides and since I want dressing that will be a side. Ok fast-forward... I kindly asked for peach cobbler and I asked for more crust than peaches the server told me that the person that cooked the cobbler will be mad at her if she gave me more crust...... so I said I'm paying for this same food which I may add is too much for the amount you get, so if I'm asking politely even after you are slave driving my food on the plate you should put your best customer service on and serve. She continues to look at me like I'm stupid, put the plate in the bag and hand it to me side ways juice dropping and everything. I politely said Thank You but you ca keep it. She put all that food back on the bar to serve to someone else‍. Walters will not get anymore if my money. So keep in mind if you eat off of the bar you are probably eating someone's takeout that they weren't satisfied with. read more

Mr. Walter, Ms. Lucille, and their staff make sure they take care of you. The food is always hot and fresh! They always remember me and make me feel like I am visiting family. One time I was having a particularly bad day and called in my order. I went to pick it up and it was as if they knew I needed some extra love. Mr. Walter and Ms. Lucille looked so happy to see me, gave me hugs and talked to me so sweetly! They didn't know it but they pulled me out of that sad state right away! I smiled all the way home and the whole time I ate my fish, greens, fries and cornbread. The menu changes up a little every day with great varieties of soul food. You gotta try them out for sure! The one star is not for the food the food is actually very good. The one star is for their professionalism. They decide to close whenever they feel like it at any time they feel like it. Despite what their times state on their doors. Or what they tell would be customers, when they call & ask what time you close. The atmosphere and customer service is family-friend oriented. Mr. Walter and Ms. Lucille treat you like a family member stopping over for a hot meal. From the peach cobbler, red velvet cake, candied yams, collard greens, fried fish to order, baked and fried chicken, oxtails, and numerous other delicious foods, Walters is sure to have something for everyone.
