Thai tea + tiramisu (wan yen x kyookie popup collab)
    Kyle D.

Adorable little shop situated perfectly for a sweet treat and a scenic (while there isn't construction) walk. Service was fast and friendly considering the line out the door, and the place was extraordinarily clean despite the constant flow of patrons consuming drippy, sticky desserts. This'll be an easy place to go back to because they occupy a slightly different niche than the established ice cream giants of salt lake. There are numerous flavors here that you'd never find at Handels or Blacksmith, and you certainly would be hard pressed to find anything like the spectacular thai tea slushie.

Crazy crowd but worth the wait! Creamy and so many flavors to choose from! Giant portions, great for sharing! Delicious!

Truly astonished at how good these flavors are - very fresh, authentic and not too sweet at all. LOVED the Saigon coffee and mango sticky rice flavors but all the flavors we tried were truly magnificent. I'm from California where Asia flavors are abundant especially in dessert but this place is probably the best Asian inspired flavored ice cream I've ever tried. The service was awesome as we tried sooo many samples and the girl who helped us didn't bat an eye. The ambiance is super cute and by so many other great food places so it's lovely to walk around this area. Definitely will think of this place when I think of SLC.

Had to go back and get some more ice cream. I got a pint of "Milky Hokkaido." If you are familiar with Japanese Milky's candy (it's been renamed to something I can't remember.) or with the White Rabbit candies, this tastes like it. They import the Hokkaido milk powder to make this ice cream. It's really good! As my last visit, the employees were very pleasant and helpful. The shop is quaint, smallish size, but enough room for a customer flow. Check out my menu photo. They have several things worth checking out. Like the combo plates. Looks so good. Their Caramel Crunch Toast recently got a shout out by Salt & Seek if you follow them. They have some unique flavors and you can sample them all. You will not find these flavors at your Baskin Robbins, even your Snelgroves or other places. They have a Thai-Vietnamese influence. You need to taste them all. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. Would definitely recommend you trying it to get your own take on it. 2* = Not so good. Would not recommend at all. Waste of money. 1* = How are they still in business? Stay away at all costs!

The mango sticky rice was delicious. They have lots of different ice cream flavors from mango sticky rice to ube. There are plenty of tables inside to sit and hang out. Parking is a little difficult but would definitely recommend giving this place to visit.

really enjoyed the new flavor pinky promise. it tasted like cookie dough and strawberry, the strawberry syrup really enhances that strawberry. thai tea ice cream was also delicious. they included a piece of matcha (?) cone in my cup as well. service was very friendly and helpful, she gave me 4 samples instead of the standard 3 so thank you :) excited for the next time i come to wanyen!!

This place is adorable! Serving Asian inspired ice cream flavors! The staff are so friendly and nice, we were able to sample 3 flavors before hand which was a hard decision to make. We got toasty sesame, ube love, durian, mango sticky rice, peach oolong. So yummy!

Food Quality: 5/5 Service: 4/5 Cleanliness: 5/5 Value: 5/5 Tried Wanyen for the first time and was really excited we finally have an ice cream shop with unique Asian flavors. There was a good variety of ice creams and you can have up to 3 samples per person. We ended up getting the mango sticky rice and the Thai Tea. When we first walked in, it was a while before the staff acknowledged us. They were fulfilling a few orders from the group before, so they were probably distracted, but it didn't feel as welcoming. (I.e. Hi, Welcome in! We will be right with you). After we waited a bit, we got their attention eventually and they fulfilled our order shortly after. Hopefully it was just an off day!

Wanyen a great icecream/dessert shop that has an emphasis on asian flavors. Their shop is small, but easy to access from downtown. It's refreshing to see the variety of flavors that they have. They have easy options from picky eaters like Hokkaido milk and Mango sticky rice, and spanning to bolder flavors like black sesame and durian. They also have other desserts available, that can also come with a scoop of icecream. If you've found yourself at other shops saying "This icecream is too sweet and lacking flavor", then I would highly recommend Wanyen. The employees were nice, and helped with samples, offerings suggestions and answering questions. The shop is clean with a lot of fun decorations. There is enough room for a small to medium sized group, and orders come out pretty quick.

Such a cute little ice cream shop! It was very clean, calm, and artsy in there. Great customer service, we were greeted when we walked in and asked if we had any allergies when ordering (which was very nice and considerate). I got the mango sticky rice with mango sticky rice ice cream. The sticky texture from the rice, the smooth and cream consistency from the ice cream, and the freshness from the mango paired so well together! I'm still dreaming about this dessert, it was so delectable! My son got a mango yogurt smoothie, and you can tell that they used fresh mango! It was very refreshing, and the sweetness from the mango paired nicely with the little bit of tartness from the yogurt. My man got a Thai Tea, and it was so creamy and full of flavor! If you're craving a sweet treat then this is the place to go! Hoping to get back to try more ice cream soon.

Loved the different Asian flavor options they had. Will definitely have to come back and try the other I wasn't able to try. The gal helping our group was super patient with us deciding which three flavors we would all try. Cool little spot in the Pioneer Park area to end the night for dessert for sure. Definitely been recommending it to friends.

Toasted sesame and ube ice cream in a pandan waffle cone
    Mikki M.

This Asian inspired treats spot has so many unique flavors and is a must try! The staff were friendly and answered questions we had about some flavors. Each person is allowed to try up to three flavors. We ordered the cocovibe, dreamy strawberry, toasted sesame, and ube ice cream. They were all so creamy and delicious! Each flavor was distinct and not too sweet. The pandan waffle was a perfect pair with the ice cream. I liked that it was too thick and crumbly. I can't wait to come back and try their other desserts. The mango sticky rice and ice cream sounds amazing! The space has a lot of seating and nice natural light from the wall to wall windows. It's located just north of pioneer park so there's plenty of street parking.

WooOOOooowZAH! Just the cutest little place, with the sweetest staff and next-level deserts! We ordered the Caramel Butter Toast and added an extra scoop because why not and the sheer quality, flavor heights, fresh fruits, sweet&salty combo and crunchy textures had us thrown into a frenzy that could certainly lead to a Wanyen Butter Toast addiction. It's a thing of beauty and if your sweet tooth is ever-a-itching, pop in and selfishly soothe it...you won't be disappointed!

My husband got the chicken and waffles, and I got the Ricky burger with fries. We also got the waffle monster to share. My husband really liked his chicken and waffle. The presentation was adorable. We saw our friends as well as a few other patrons and the baguettes look AMAZING. They are totally loaded up. Our friends liked there's and enjoyed the waffini as well. If you're looking for pastries that are as stunning as they are delicious, Fillings & Emulsions…read moreabsolutely delivers. Their fruit-shaped creations are little works of art--so realistic it almost feels wrong to eat them... almost. Each pastry is fresh, light, and packed with flavor. The pistachio was incredibly tasty, though definitely on the richer side, so it's one you might want to savor slowly. The raspberry had a beautifully balanced sweetness with a vibrant, delicious filling. The lemon was very zingy--almost intensely so--but still delightful if you enjoy bold citrus flavors (just maybe not an entire one in a single sitting). The standout, though, was the mango. Easily the winner. It had such a bright, powerful flavor, and the fresh mango inside made every bite feel special. Everything about it--from taste to presentation--was just beautiful. The only slight letdown was the macarons. While still good, they didn't quite match the intensity and uniqueness of the pastries and felt a bit underwhelming in comparison. Overall, this place is a must-visit if you appreciate creative, high-quality desserts. It's clear a lot of skill and care goes into every piece. I loved the building that the pastry shop was in, as it had a "lunch room" feel to it. There are a few restaurants inside so there are options and there's plenty of seating.

I thought it sounded yummy since I enjoy matcha and ube. So I checked it out today for a post-lunch dessert. I really enjoyed it and definitely plan on returning to try some of their other offerings. Today I ordered the matcha ube shaved ice and the cherry blossom latte (I had them make mine using coconut milk). I ate the shaved ice at the cafe and took the cherry blossom latte to go because I wanted to drink it later. They put it in a cute bag! Since it was my first visit there I wanted to try the ube and matcha separately, so for the shaved ice I ordered matcha shaved ice on the bottom, followed by the matcha soft serve and then the ube soft serve on top of that. Next time I order the shaved ice, I think I will most likely have the matcha shaved ice with the matcha/ube twist soft serve on top now that I know how each one tastes on their own. I also would do matcha shaved ice with just the ube soft serve on top. Or maybe ube shaved ice with matcha soft serve on top. The matcha was tasty, and like other reviewers have said, you can tell it's good quality matcha. I really enjoyed the ube, it was very yummy to me. I think for my next visit I'm going to try the ube parfait. The cherry blossom latte was good. I got the sweetened version (it was lightly sweetened not super sweet, which I liked). I didn't want something super sweet. It didn't/doesn't have matcha in it. That was fine with me because I wanted to save it for later and didn't want to have caffeine later in the day. I do think it would taste good with matcha in it though. Overall I enjoyed this cafe. I look forward to trying more items. As of right now the other things I want to try are the ube parfait, the shaved ice again, the warabimochi, the hojicha yuzu latte, and the strawberry matcha latte. If you like matcha and/or ube, I would definitely recommend checking out Matcha Café Kyoto. I know I will be again. Support a local business so that they are able to stay around for us to enjoy.

I told her it was my first time but she didn't proceed with any recommendations. I decided to go with the ube matcha with oatmilk. She then asked if I'd like cream with it, I had asked if she suggested it and she responds with "well everyone gets it with creamer". Ok so I agreed to try it out. Why not cause everyone gets it with creamer right? I waited about 10 mins, which isn't bad considering the amount of people. She called my name and had 3 other drinks with her. I asked her if the one she was handing me was with oatmilk , and she says "well that's what you ordered right" I tried it and it wasn't oatmilk. I brought it up to her attention and she kinda just said "sorry" and that was all....unfortunately, I can't say it was the best service. If I decide to come back next time, I'll only get straight matcha instead of a latte just to try again. The matcha didn't have a strong taste to it. It was on the watery side. Perhaps I came on the wrong day a they were off with their orders. Who knows...

$7. 2 dark chocolate truffles. Bourbon & Marzipan $5.50. 1…read moresingle scoop Spumoni It took me a minute to get my bearings in this shop. There's a craft counter, a chocolate counter, and an ice cream counter, and no clear lines or what not. At first glance, it's not immediately obvious where to focus your attention, so I went with the ice cream for here and took the chocolates walking. The owner was out on the floor chatting with customers, which gave the place a welcoming and local feel. It was nice. A few times I hovered close to him and tried to find an opening to ask him some questions about the products, but he was busy with other guests. As for the history of the business, there are enough newspaper clippings and articles on the walls to keep anyone occupied while waiting. Most of the staff appeared to be high school- or younger college-aged employees handling the day-to-day operations. The ice cream isn't made in-house (it's Farr's brand), so this review is more about the experience than the product itself. The serving size was fair, and I opted for the spumoni. Yes, really, spumoni. Three other people in our group between their twenties and forties had never even heard of the flavor before. The ice cream is scooped from a mixed single barrel rather than barrel with separated sections, so the chocolate, pistachio, and cherry had blended together. It was kind of like putting different sodas into the same cup. While I enjoy ice cream and these flavors, others might not think the same. The standout items for me were the chocolates. The bourbon chocolate came with a huge flavor punch. It was rich, bold, and intense enough that I needed a break and a glass of water afterward. It's not for the faint of heart and you need to be serious about chocolates to have an appreciation for this one. The marzipan, on the other hand, was a perfect follow-up. Not to sweet, balanced, and a very nice almond flavor. It was delicious and served as a nice palate refresher after the bourbon's performance. Between the chocolates and the owner's visible presence this was an enjoyable stop. The chocolates were easily the stars of the visit and worth it if you're in the area.
