There isn't a superlative in my lexicon that can adequately describe how incredible my experience with Warm Planet Bikes has been. I first reached out to Warm Planet Bikes back in December after realizing my wife and I had a bit of buyer's remorse on our practically brand-new Tern GSD R14 -- it had only 11 miles on the odometer. We decided we really wanted a front-loaded cargo bike instead. Even though Warm Planet doesn't take trade-ins, Kash (the owner) went above and beyond, offering guidance on how to sell the GSD privately and even performing a full tune-up and diagnostic checklist for my buyer. That level of support, especially when there was no immediate sale in it for him, speaks volumes. Then I became the most indecisive, high-maintenance customer imaginable. From December through February, I changed my mind more times than I care to admit. I started out set on a standard Larry vs Harry eBullitt, but then realized our 60-lb Golden Retriever might not be able to comfortably lie down in the front box. That sent me down the rabbit hole. I bounced back and forth between the Yuba Supercargo, the eBullitt X, and the Urban Arrow Family Cargo. At one point I literally laid masking tape on my living room floor to map out the various bucket dimensions to see which one would best fit our dog. Through all of it, Kash was patient, thoughtful, and genuinely helpful. Not once did he pressure me. Not once did he seem annoyed. He just kept offering insight, answering questions, and helping me think through what would truly work best for our family. Kash is truly a diamond in the rough. His kindness and integrity are rare. And Ted, his mechanic, deserves major credit as well. Ted made sure the GSD was in A+ shape for its new owner, and the eBullitt X I finally took home was pristinely assembled. The shifting was buttery smooth, everything dialed, everything perfect. It rode exactly the way a dream cargo bike should. We're back in SF after a bit of years in Portland and so glad to find these folks open on Market Street! Did you know you don't have to haul your cargo bike all the way down to Bernal to get competent service??? And they probably have service openings within a day or two?!! They got our Urban Arrow in for a very reasonably priced tune up and some minor fixes within a couple days this week. On the day of, my kiddo and I had a great time hanging out at the library and enjoying croissants at Arsicault while we waited just a short time to pick it back up. We are working in San Francisco for the week and have our bikes with us. A flat tire after a week of Urban riding all around the city is not unexpected but leaving our tool kit at home was.... called several spots (next week ... in a few days.... no time ) but only Warm Planet Bikes said of course bring it on by (this was after the offer to come get the bike and bring it back, as they were heading out on a few deliveries...) It's a little odd to get to the shop using GPS but in truth exactly as "Kash" (owner?) described. Never had a bike shop tell me to wait all day for a flat; I brought in my bike 9 AM on a weekday, they told me I would have to come back at the end of the day. They clearly weren't busy, and they told me they don't ever make "promises" to customers to fix on the spot. Like Omid said--FREE VALET BIKE PARKING. At the Caltrain station. Sounds too good to be true, like they're going to give you a time-share pitch or something. But no, just walk in, hand em your bike, grab your claim ticket, and you're on your way in about 30 seconds. Now when I have to go to the San Jose office, I don't have to bother with the bike car hullabaloo (of course, it helps that I don't need the bike on the other end). So what's the catch? Well, note that it's only free for the first 48 hours. But I'm guessing their big idea is to lure in potential customers for their bike shop operations. And hey, it just may be working on me. After all, I love Ocean Cyclery, but this place is just a few blocks from work, which is super convenient. read more

I needed a tube change the day of, and I called up WPB. Luckily I live right up the street, the gentleman I spoke to told me to bring my bike down and he'd have the door open waiting for me. 10 minutes later I was greeted at the front door by the mechanic, gave him my bike and my info and he let me know it would take a couple hours. I must've given him the wrong number or there was a miscommunication somewhere because I didn't receive a notification of my bike being done but I called and Cash let me know he was trying to reach out to tell me my bike was ready. The tube and labor was only 25 Dollars, a very modest price compared to a few shops in the area. I asked Cash a few questions about some bikes he had at the shop and he gave me some advice for a future purchase. Good, honest bike shop in a nutshell. The only thing is you wouldn't know it's there because they keep the shop locked up due to so many thefts in the area. I would go back for any repairs and future purchases though. Bikes that are functional enough to replace a car are complicated and tend be fitted out with lots of accessories and options so they can do the job, and Warm Planet Bikes is my go-to place for figuring all this out. I had to get my bike repaired/tuned up last week. Dropped it off in the morning at 8 and it was ready to be picked up that evening (most other stores I've been to take at least one night). i am looking to replace my old electric adult trike purchased on line and this time before purchasing a new one I wanted to make sure that if something went wrong with the new one there was a repaired shop that could repair the brand I was going to purchase since my first online trike purchased, no one could clear up the problems and hence a waste of money. in a round about search i was given the name Warm Planet in San Francisco I spoke with Kash and explained my reason for first making sure that my next trike could be repaired and he told me what he would need from the company i was purchasing my trike from. I went on to say I have plans of adding a dog trailer to the trike so my senior Rottweiler could still accompany me on my rides. I had been having issues with my chain occasionally falling off of my big ring since last fall. I had mitigated it a bit by replacing my chain and adjusting the derailleur but it still wasn't perfect. Kash and Ted got me back up and running on my Fuell Flluid E-Bike. No small feat. They worked with the manufacturer to diagnose the issue which turned out to be the torque sensor buried in the motor casing. They thoroughly tested everything before releasing the bike back to me. I am back in the saddle and my bike rides better than ever. I highly recommend them for e-bikes and working with products that are not generally available. Helpful, knowledgable, friendly and professional staff. We had a great morning testing two cargo bikes. They're willing to ride one to San Jose if we need them to deliver! I'm deducting one star because of the location. We went on a Saturday morning and my wife and baby daughter turned back, it was utterly terrifying. Even I was scared to go near the store. Hordes of shady characters were hanging out on the street. At the store to the left there was a man roaring while his dog urinated in the doorway. To the right a transient was lying on the ground barking at passers-by, and all around was the stench of urine and filth. It was like the zombie apocalypse. What an awful location. I hope they find somewhere better or the area gets cleaned up. I won't be going back because it's too dangerous. read more

Fate brought me to Warm Planet Bikes. I was trying to find a bicycle shop that was open on a Monday so that I could finally have a flat tire repaired, and get a tune-up while I was at it. My normal bike shop doesn't operate on Mondays, so I found Huckleberry Bicycles to be open, but found out when I got there (after walking my bike from the Lower Haight) that they're not currently doing repairs (no hard feelings, COVID-19 & all...but I was disappointed). I did a search for alternate bike shops, and found Warm Planet Bikes right across the street! Kash answered the phone promptly, directed me to come over and wait outside while he finished with a previous customer. Within minutes, I was in and had my bike dropped off. I immediately felt comfortable with Kash's expertise, and my bike was ready exactly when he estimated. I will most definitely be back! It's unfortunate that the shop is located in such an intense part of the city; I hope that they eventually find a more hospitable location, but I'm fine to brave my way for the quality work & attention. read more

I'd been dreading the "Fall Back" time change forever. Not because I'm afraid of the dark. Hell, I love the dark. You should've seen me at Goth Night in the Marina. Total creature of the night in action. But before I go put the makeup and vampire fangs on, I'm a bike commuter. And riding in the darkness of winter sucks more than Nosferatu himself. Enter Warm Planet Bikes, AKA the bike building on the north side of the 4th and King Caltrain station. They've got a handful of products on sale now (tubes, tires, safety junk) and will soon roll out their full-service bike/repair shop. Which is great and all, but the important part is already well under way: Complimentary valet parking for your bike. You don't understand what a great world this opens up to me. Before, I'd come home dead tired after pedaling home against the wind, dodging cars who can't see me (despite TWO sets of lights... assholes), trying earnestly not to hit pedestrians who step in my path, and enduring the bucketloads of sweat that result from an unathletic, heavyset cubicle jockey trying to ride a bicycle as fast as possible to get home and watch TiVo or whatever. Now I have options. If it's still nice out or I'm feeling energetic (Ha! Fat chance!) I can ride home. Or I can wheel my bike over to Warm Planet and park it for free. Then I can hop on Muni and numbly and slowly ride home to the beat of my iPod. Or if I really want to treat myself, I can hop in a cab and be home or at happy hour in a few costly minutes. Thanks to Warm Planet, I now have more choice. It was a cold planet in this bike shop. Crappy experience for me as well as another customer, all in the same 20 minutes. I arrived at Cold Planet Bikes to repair my Brompton bicycle. I needed some parts, and the estimated costs were WAY the hell over normal!!! I was cool at first, but the repair man didn't seem confident in his other two collegues to do the repair work while his vacation was starting tomorrow. So I start chit-chattinig with other nice customers so he can take his time to think about a good estimate, but later asked me to call him back. During this time, I was looking at other bikes and struck up conversations with other customers. I later asked a question to the tall-big glasses wearing employee, and he seemed very annoyed and grew very inpatient with whatever was going through his head. For one particular answer regarding the high estimate, he states "I am not feeling that this repair will even get done at any rate based on what.......". I stopped him before I felt his negativity explode and took my bike and ran outta there. Another customer followed. It does not feel good when someone doesn't want people around, but this a business establishment, and he's not the only bike repair shop in town. I wish this place good luck, but I'll never step foot in there again. There are other shops in SF and Peninsula area that sell Bromptons, Dahons, Bike Fridays, so don't go to Warm planet, unless you like cold attitude and cold crappy estimates. read more

When you make a purchase at Warm Planet, you won't be paying the rock-bottom lowest price out there. The price will be reasonable though, and it will come with some of the best service you can find in a bay area bike shop. Maybe it's because they cater to commuter/transportation cyclists and not Lance Armstrong wannabes, but everyone I've encountered here has been extremely friendly and down to earth. The first time I came in here I was looking for a pair of Schwalbe Marathon Supreme tires in an odd size that Schwalbe said they made but I couldn't find anywhere. Not only did Warm Planet have them in stock, but they also showed me some cheaper options I should also consider. I try to buy most of my commuter-related parts here because I know they won't sell me something that doesn't work for me. I haven't even used their best feature, the free bike valet. It's amazing that something like this exists. I try not to ask how they make that work economically because I don't want them to realize it's a huge money loser and start charging for it. read more

I can't say enough good things about Warm Planet. I bike to Caltrain every day and rely on leaving my fancy-pants mountain bike at WP while I commute to Palo Alto. Having my bike stored securely inside, FOR FREE, is a huge deal. My bike's never been damaged and there's no hassle to drop it off or pick it up. Everyone who works there is friendly and helpful. I've had my bike serviced a couple times too and it's always been great, affordable work. It's almost easier than dropping off your dry cleaning in the morning and picking it up when you come home from work. If you value this service be sure to let Caltrain know! They're considering giving them more funding to expand the retail section of the store. And don't forget to tip! read more

Awesome service, super nice guys, and fixed my bike for 1/7th of the price that the neighbor (Huckleberry) quoted. There were some rather simple things wrong with my brand new bike (which I incompetently assembled myself) that I knew would only take a very short time to fix but I did not have the expertise to fix. For example, the cables were in the wrong place so the handle had to be flipped vertically 360 degrees, the brakes needed to be adjusted slightly, and the gear shifting mechanism needed to be tuned. Huckleberry refused to treat these as individual issues and said they would have to charge me for a full tune-up. Also, Huckleberry was apparently so busy that their first available appointment was three days later. Warm Planet fixed all my bike's issues in 15 minutes on the spot without requiring the expensive tune-up. read more

I came here this morning because in the middle of my commute to work my bike pedal came off. I couldn't find the bolt to reattach it. The bike is quite old and was given to me for free from a family friend and I had just started using it for my commute this week. I walked into Warm Planet Bikes and was immediately helped by a very kind man. Not only did he spend time helping me put my pedal back on, he didn't charge me anything for the service or the bolt. He also introduced me to folding bikes, which were pretty great. I was planning to go back after work to check out a potential replacement for my falling apart bike but unfortunately got out too late and they had already closed. I have bought 2 bikes from Warm Planet, and I am a huge fan of folding bikes. My wife was thinking about getting one for her commute, and we went to go test drives bikes on Saturday afternoon. The shop was busy but the staff was able to give warm, individual attention to each person and answer the endless questions about how they work, what the differences are, etc. Much to my surprise, she fell in love with a green Appletini Dahon, and she bit the bullet & bought it on the spot. I had just purchased a Bike Friday Tikit, and wanted to find folding pedals. My first encounter was a little strange, and it felt a tad adversarial, why, I don't know, but I did end up buying a pair of folding pedals for about 70.00. Cut to almost a year later, and I decided to sell on Craiglist those same folding pedals as I never really liked them. I researched going rate and was stunned to see the price was about 1/4 of what I paid! I realized I had been sold a cheaper pair of pedals in another box. Luckily I keep receipts for everything. At the Caltrain station seems like a slightly weird place for a bike valet. Didn't you just get off the train? If you wanted to leave your bike, why not leave it in a bike locker at the station you originated at, instead of fighting for space on the Caltrain just to park it here? Plus, most offices I've been to in SF let employees park their bikes inside. I mean, they kind of have to because of the Employee Bike Access Bill, and actually everywhere seems incredibly cool about it. Still...free bike parking...woohoo! And the access bill doesn't include a right for shoppers or movie goers or restaurant diners to park their bikes inside. I ended up here because I was going to see a movie at the Metreon and there is no way in HECK I was going to use any of the nice, new bike rack installations around there. I might as well go park it by the Ferry Building. The parking here actually seems pretty popular and the employees seem REALLY NICE. (A notch up from most too-cool-for-you bike shops I've encountered.) The idea is the bike valet is free and then they support this by also being a bike store and repair place and I can TOTALLY see dropping your bike off here, getting a tuneup or the latest doodads installed on your bike while you prance around the city and then picking it back up on your way back to the Peninsula. Most of the time, leaving my bike here doesn't make sense, but when it does this place totally makes my day! read more

This review is for their bike services. I had to get my rear tube replaced/patched as I got a flat on the way to work. Warm Planet Pikes was the closest option as I needed to get it fixed before heading home. I called ahead, brought my bike in, told them what time I need it back, they agreed, and I went back to work. Picked my bike at the agreed time, paid. All was well. The first issue I had was when I got on Market Street and my rear brakes--the only brakes on the bike--took too much force to engage. At a stop sign, I noticed that the quick release was wide open, so I pulled it down, and my brakes were back to normal. Just before I got home, I got another flat on the same rear tire. I took off the wheel and inspected the tire. The service dude did not remove the piece of glass that caused the first flat. This is something you always do when replacing a tube on your bike. Instead of enjoying my evening, I had to take out the tube, patch it, remove the glass from my tire, and reassemble it all back so I can bike to work the next day. Pros: $17ish gets you a new tube installed The owner is a nice and friendly dude Cons: You might get a flat because the piece of glass in that tire is still there You might crash into something because they left the brakes' quick release open read more
